151. Wouldn't Mean A Thing

Shawn's point of view

My fiancée, Y/n Y/l/n, is on tour with me for the summer. We were sitting backstage after she had come with me into my question and answer session. I could tell that she was trying to hide it, but I could also tell that she was frustrated and upset. In my q and a, one of the fans there, with Y/n sitting right next to me, asked if I would go out on a date with them. When they asked that question, I could feel Y/n let go of my hand as she threw her hands up in the air a bit, a clear sign that she was not at all happy about that question, and neither was I.

"I'm engaged." I told the fan who had just asked me out.

"Yeah and the person that he's engaged to is right here." Y/n said as she frowned and pointed at herself. I rubbed her back to soothe her and calm her down, knowing that she was upset.

"Hey guys, could I talk to my lovely soon to be wife alone?" I asked my team who was in my dressing room.

"Sure." They said. I thanked them and they left the room. I looked at Y/n and she was looking down. I put my hand to her cheek and gently turned her hand so she was looking at me.

"What's going through your mind right now babe?" I asked. She sighed.

"Why would that person ask that question? I was literally sitting right next to you." Y/n asked and said.

"I know honey, and they shouldn't have asked that, but do you want to know something?" I asked. Y/n nodded.

"Yeah." She said.

"You're the woman that I'm going to marry, and you're the only person that I'll be going out on a date with." I said. Y/n leaned her head on my chest and nodded.

"I know. I just... I don't get it, I don't get why they asked that, especially since I was sitting right next to you, and I didn't like that question." Y/n said. I rubbed her back, trying to soothe her.

"I know honey, I know. You know what? I'll be right back." I said. Y/n nodded and sat up. I stood up, left my dressing room, and found my band.

"Hey. Andrew said that Y/n seemed upset. Is everything okay?" Mike, my drummer asked. I shook my head.

"A fan in my q and a asked me if I would go on a date with them and Y/n was literally sitting right next to me so she wasn't, and still isn't too happy about that question. Do you guys know the song Wouldn't Mean A Thing by Bruno Major?" I asked. They nodded.

"Yeah." They said.

"Okay. I want to bring Y/n on stage tonight and sing it to her. I would also love to dance with her to our first dance song on stage tonight. I just... I want and need her to realize that she's the only one for me. I think that she does know that, but I just need to be extra sure that she knows that." I said. They nodded.

"Okay." They said. I thanked my band and then went to my engineers. I asked them if they could change the set list a bit. After one of my songs, I wanted to sing Wouldn't Mean A Thing by Bruno Major, and then I wanted to have I Get To Love You by Ruelle play after that so Y/n and I could dance to it. They said that they could make that happen. I thanked them and went back to my dressing room.

"Hey baby girl." I said to Y/n.

"Hey. Where did you go?" She asked as I sat next to her and pulled her onto my lap.

"I have a surprise for you tonight. Well, technically I have two. What do you think about dancing to our first dance song on stage?" I asked. Y/n thought for a moment and then nodded.

"Okay." She said. I smiled.

"Okay, good. Now come give me a kiss my beautiful girl." I said. She smiled at me.

"With pleasure my handsome man." She said. She put her lips on mine. I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. We soon pulled away from the kiss and spent more time together until I had to go on stage. I played some songs, and then started speaking into the microphone.

"So, in my q and a today, there was a question that was asked that didn't sit too well with Y/n and I. I could tell that it upset Y/n more than she was saying and more than she was letting on. I would like to make it abundantly clear that I'm engaged to Y/n, and she's the only person that I'll be taking out on a date. I want to cheer Y/n up, so I have a surprise for my lovely fiancée. I'm going to go get her." I said. I went to the side of the stage, where Y/n was. She smiled at me as she took my hand and I helped her on stage.

"What are you doing?" She asked. The fans screamed louder when they saw her. I smiled. I've serenaded her on stage before, and I usually have her sit down in a chair that's brought on stage, but this time I wanted to keep her close to me. I held her hand as I went up to the microphone.

"So, Y/n just asked me what I'm doing. Well, I'm about to sing her a song, and usually when I bring her on stage and sing to her, I have a chair brought on stage so she can sit there while I sing it, but this time I think that I'll keep her nice and close to me. Ready babe?" I asked Y/n. She nodded.

"Yeah." She said. I began to sing the song as I kept my arms around her.

"You bring out the best in me / Help me see the world differently / Be a better man than I'd ever be on my own / I'll give you the rest of me / You're the reason I rest easily / It's the love and loyalty you've shown" I sang as I held Y/n close to me. She smiled at me, and when I was done singing the song, I gave her a kiss.

"I love you." She said. I smiled.

"I love you too. I have another surprise for you babe. So, to my fans, obviously not all of you guys are going to be at our wedding, that would require a really big venue, like this one, and the venues that we've been looking into and talking about aren't this big. Anyways, unfortunately, you guys won't be able to attend our wedding and see us dance to our first dance song, so I was thinking of dancing with Y/n to our first dance song right now, in front of you guys so you guys can see it. Our first dance song is called I Get To Love You by Ruelle, and if my amazing engineers could play it, that would be wonderful." I said. Y/n and I stepped away from the microphone and when the song started to play, we began to slow dance to it.

"You're amazing." Y/n said. Her arms were wrapped around my shoulders, and my arms were wrapped around her waist. I smiled at her.

"That's you my love." I said. She smiled and I rested my forehead against hers, a smile never leaving either of our faces.

"You make me so happy Shawn. So beyond happy." She said.

"You make me so beyond happy too." I said before twirling her. She laughed and then we wrapped our arms around each other again as I rested my forehead against hers once again.

"You mean so much to me Shawn. I wish that I could put how much you mean to me into words, because it's a lot. And like, there are so many reasons why I love you. So many. And there are so many things that I love about you. I wish that I could figure out how to put it into words." She said as I pulled my forehead away from hers and smiled at her as she spoke.

"You don't have to put how you feel into words, I know how you feel when you put all of your love into our kisses." I said. She smiled.

"I love to kiss you." She said.

"I love to kiss you too. Can I bury my face in your neck please?" I asked. She nodded as she smiled that beautiful smile.

"Yeah." She said. I buried my face in her neck and we continued to slow dance to the song as I kept leaving loving and gentle kisses on her neck. The song soon came to an end, and I picked my head up and looked at her with a pout.

"I want to dance with you some more." I said. She laughed.

"I know, but you have a concert to do." She said.

"How about we dance to it just one more time and then I'll continue with my concert?" I asked. She smiled and nodded.

"Okay." She said. I smiled and went up to the microphone.

"I'm sorry, but I can't get enough of this amazing woman. Could you guys just play that song one more time?" I asked. I smiled when it began to play again.

"Happy?" Y/n asked.

"With you? Always." I said. Her smile widened.

"You make me feel so special." She said.

"That's because you are special." I said. She blushed, causing me to chuckle. There was a pause for a few moments before she said something.

"I can't wait to be your wife." She said. I kissed her forehead and then rested my forehead against hers.

"Well I can't wait to be your husband." I said. Her smile widened at my words.

"Do you think that you'll cry when I walk down the aisle?" Y/n asked.

"Oh my gosh I'm probably going to be a blubbering mess. You're going to look so beautiful honey, just like always." I said.

"What if you don't like my wedding dress?" She asked. I kissed her forehead again.

"My love, I can promise you that I'm going to love it. I know that you haven't picked it out yet, but I know that I'm going to love whatever you pick." I said. She nodded.

"I just... I want you to love it." She said.

"I will honey, I promise." I said.

"If you don't, will you tell me?" She asked. I gave her a sweet kiss on the lips as the song came to an end again.

"No, I won't, because I'm going to love it. I promise." I said. She nodded.

"Okay." She said. I gave her a kiss and then went over to the microphone.

"I can't wait until Y/n and I are married. Oh my gosh guys, you don't understand, when she walks down the aisle, I'm most likely going to be sobbing my face off. Well, I hope that you guys enjoyed watching me dance with my bride to be, because I definitely loved dancing with her." I said. The crowd cheered. I looked at Y/n and kissed her cheek before talking into her ear. "I'll see you in a little bit, okay?"

"Okay. Cuddles later?" She asked. I kissed her cheek again as I rubbed her side a bit.

"Yeah. I love you." I said. She smiled at me.

"I love you too." She said. I walked her off the stage and then went back to the microphone.

"There are times when I have these moments where it hits me all over again that I get to marry Y/n, and I get so beyond happy. Y/n makes me happier than I've ever been in my whole life and I'm so beyond in love with her. There are times when the love that we have for each other, we feel it so much that it's almost overwhelming. I remember, on our six month anniversary, Y/n was so overwhelmed by the love that she was feeling for me, and by the love that I was showing her with my gifts for her and with my words to her, that she was crying a bit at one point. She said that she had never been treated the way that I treat her and things like that. She deserves to be treated like a queen, which is how I try to treat her. But I also want to say that I've had my moments where I'm so overwhelmed by my love for Y/n and by the love that she gives me, that I've started crying too, but they're happy tears, they're tears of love, so that's good, and talking about it with Y/n always makes me feel better. I guess that what I'm trying to say with this long speech is that with Y/n, it's true love. The love that we have for one another is something special that we share with only each other and no one else. I'm the luckiest man alive, not just because I get to marry such an amazing woman, but also just for the simple fact that I found her and for the fact that she's in my life. I get to marry her, and someday she's going to be the mother to my children, and the grandmother to our grandchildren, and that's amazing. I honestly can't wait to grow old with her and just spend the rest of our lives together. I could go on and on about her honestly, and I wish that I could right now, but I should probably continue with my concert. Just know that I love Y/n more than anything. I even love her more than I love music and that's a lot." I said. I then finished my concert. Afterwards, Y/n immediately pulled me in for a hug.

"That speech that you made about your love for me was so beautiful. I hope that someone recorded it and puts it on YouTube. I was in tears when you were saying all of that." She said. I looked at her as my hands rested on her waist and her hands rested on my shoulders.

"Happy tears or sad tears?" I asked.

"Happy tears. I think that Andrew took a video of me while I was crying." She said with a small laugh. I gave her a kiss and we went to the tour bus. When we got on the bus, I checked Andrew's Instagram, and looked at his story. Sure enough, he had posted a clip of Y/n, her hands to her mouth, and then one hand moved to wipe away tears as I spoke.

"@yourusername as @shawnmendes made a speech about his love for her. I think she's happy." Andrew wrote. I smiled and looked at Y/n.

"You know, everything that I said on stage is true." I said. She nodded as she yawned.

"I know baby. I'm tired but I also feel wound up, like I don't know if I'll be able to fall asleep." She said with a frown.

"Do you want to lay down and I'll rub your forehead?" I asked. She looked at me as she yawned again.

"Would you mind?" She asked when she was done yawning. I shook my head as I smiled at the woman who is so beyond precious to me, the woman that I'm going to marry.

"Not at all babe." I said. We got underneath the blankets. She laid down and her eyelids drooped. She was definitely tired. I propped myself up on one of my elbows so I could stay awake until she fell asleep.

"Thank you for doing this. Good night Shawn. I love you." She said as she closed her eyes as I began rubbing her forehead.

"You're welcome. Good night my sweet girl. I love you too." I said. I saw her smile a little, causing me to smile because her happiness is my happiness. I know that it was probably creepy, but I couldn't help but stare at her. She's so breathtaking and beautiful. I hadn't even realized that I had stopped rubbing her forehead until I saw her frown as she nudged my hand, which was still on her forehead, with her head.

"I require affection." She said very sleepily. I laughed a little and then continued to rub her forehead.

"Sorry baby, you're just so beautiful." I said.

"You're so handsome." She said. I leaned down and kissed her forehead and then continued to rub it.

"Thank you my love. I'll keep rubbing your forehead, you just keep your eyes closed so you can fall asleep, okay?" I said and asked.

"When are you going to sleep?" She asked. I smiled at her thoughtfulness.

"Once I know that you're asleep I'll close my eyes." I said.

"Are you sure?" She asked.

"Yup. Get some rest hun." I said.

"Okay." She said sleepily and I felt her take one of her hands and grip my shirt lightly, wanting to make contact with me. She's always said how much she loves contact with me, whether it's my skin to her skin, like when she's holding my hand or something like that, but she also loves contact even if it's just her holding onto my shirt or something similar to that. Soon, I felt her loose grip on my shirt loosen more and more, before her hand just simply laid near my chest as she began to snore, indicating that she had fallen asleep. I stopped rubbing her forehead and laid down. I wrapped one of my arms around her waist, my other arm went underneath my pillow, and I rested my forehead against hers as I closed my eyes.

The next morning, I woke up to the feeling of Y/n moving around lightly. I opened my eyes and saw that she was still asleep, just moving around for some reason. I smiled at her and then looked at my phone. Andrew had tagged me in a post, so I opened it. Um, when did he come to the back of the bus and snap a picture of Y/n and I cuddled up to each other while we slept? I read his caption.

"For anyone who, for some reason, doesn't think that these two are extremely in love with each other, I highly recommend that you try to find a video of the speech that Shawn made about Y/n on stage last night after he brought her on stage, sang to her, and then danced with her. I went to tell Shawn something this morning, and this was how I found the two lovebirds: cuddled up to each other, I think one of Shawn's arms is around Y/n, and their foreheads are resting together. They're disgustingly cute and beyond in love." Andrew captioned it. I liked the post and then commented on it.

"Love this picture and the caption, but when did you take this??? Also, could you send this picture to me please?" I commented. I then began to scroll through Instagram.

"Shawn?" Y/n asked. I looked over at her. She had just woken up. I put my phone aside and turned to her.

"Hi baby girl. How did you sleep?" I asked.

"Good. What about you?" She asked. I kissed her forehead.

"I slept good too. I love you." I said. She gave me a tired smile.

"I love you too." She said. I had the day off, so we mostly just watched Netflix and cuddled. I love Y/n so much, and I can't wait to marry her and spend the rest of my life with her.
