129. Five Year Meeting Anniversary
My husband of three months, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, and I decided to go into the city to celebrate the five year anniversary of the day that we met.
"So where's our first stop? The Dunkin Donuts that we met at?" Shawn asked as he drove into Boston. I nodded as I held one of his hands in my lap.
"Yeah. And then maybe we could go to the bench that we sitting on when we had our first kiss. Does that sound good babe?" I asked as I looked over at Shawn. He smiled as he nodded.
"Yeah. I love you honey." He said. I smiled.
"I love you too." I said.
"What should we do after we go to the bench?" Shawn asked. I thought for a moment before coming up with an idea.
"Do you want to walk around Boston Public Garden after we go to the bench?" I asked Shawn. He nodded.
"Yeah." He said. Shawn brought my hand to his lips and kissed it. I smiled at him. We soon arrived at the Dunkin Donuts that we met at. I smiled as we walked in. I squeezed Shawn's hand as I looked at him and he smiled back at me.
"Should we order the same thing that we ordered that day?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah. And then do you want to sit at the same table that we were sitting at when we had our very first date?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said. We went up to the counter and ordered the same thing that we had ordered the day we met - two medium iced coffees, regular, French vanilla swirl - and then went to sit where we had sat down five years ago, but two older guys were sitting there. Shawn and I looked around. There were plenty of seats nearby, but I knew that Shawn and I really wanted to sit there. One of the guys spotted Shawn and I and smiled at us.
"Hey! My niece is a big fan of yours. Could I get a picture with you for her?" The guy asked. Shawn nodded.
"Of course." Shawn said and they took the picture.
"Thank you." The guy said.
"You're welcome. Actually, today is the five year anniversary of the day my wife and I met and had our first date. We were actually sitting at the table that you guys are sitting at when we had our first date." Shawn said.
"Oh, do you guys want to sit here and we'll move somewhere else?" One of the guys asked.
"Would you mind?" Shawn asked.
"No, that's fine." He said. We thanked the guys and then sat down in the exact spots that we had been sitting in five years ago. I smiled at Shawn.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you too." Shawn said with a smile.
"Can I ask you a question baby?" I asked before taking a sip of my drink. Shawn nodded.
"Of course you can honey. You can ask me anything, you know that." Shawn said. I nodded and reached my hands out to hold his. As our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. I began playing with his wedding band.
"When we were sitting here five years ago, did you ever think that we would be sitting here again, but married?" I asked. Shawn kissed my hands gently and then smiled at me.
"My love, the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew that I was going to marry you someday. I don't think that I had that specific thought that we would be sitting here five years later as husband and wife, but I definitely had the thought that you would become my wife someday." Shawn said. I smiled at him.
"You're amazing." I said.
"That's you my sweet girl." Shawn said. I smiled and we talked for a bit longer. When we met five years ago, Jake, Shawn's security guard, had taken a picture of us. He said that he knew that something magical was happening between us, and he was right. Before we left, we asked someone to take our picture, and we posed the same way that we had five years before.
"Should I post the picture on Instagram or do you want to?" I asked when Shawn and I got back in the car so we could head to the bench that we were at when we had our first kiss. It's the same bench that we were at when we got engaged. Shawn thought for a moment.
"How about we both post it?" Shawn asked. I thought for a moment or so and then nodded.
"Okay. I'll use that app, picstitch, so it shows the original photo on top, and the new one on the bottom." I said.
"Okay darling." Shawn said as he drove the short drive to the bench. When we got to the bench and sat down, I leaned on Shawn and used the picstitch app. I then sent the photo to Shawn.
"I just sent it to you honey." I said. Shawn kissed the side of my head.
"Okay baby. Thank you." He said.
"You're welcome. Can I have a kiss please?" I asked as I looked up at my handsome husband. Shawn put his hand to my cheek and I smiled at the feeling of his wedding band on my cheek.
"Mrs. Mendes, you never have to ask." He said before putting his lips on mine. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. We pulled away and smiled at each other.
"I love you so much." I said as Shawn rested his forehead against mine.
"I love you so much too honey." He said. I gave him another kiss.
"Do you mind if I post the photo now?" I asked. He wrapped his arms around me to hold me close to him.
"Let's just stay like this for a second baby. Holy crap I still can't believe that we're married." Shawn said as he began kissing my cheek repeatedly. I laughed but then closed my eyes and held him close to me. The kisses that he was placing on my cheek were gentle and sweet and loving. He soon pulled away and looked at me with a smile. He rubbed his nose against mine and I smiled.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you too." He said. I then pulled away from the hug and posted the picture on Instagram. I wrote the caption.
"Five years ago today the top photo was taken by Shawn's security guard, Jake, because he thought that something magical was happening between us - and he was right! Five years ago today, I met the love of my life, my soulmate, my best friend, my husband. Today Shawn and I went back to where we first met, ordered the same drinks, and sat in the same spot, but this time, as husband and wife. I love you so much Shawn. Happy five year meeting anniversary babe!" I captioned it. Shawn liked the post and then posted the same picture.
"Five years ago today I walked into a Dunkin Donuts, expecting to get a coffee and ended up meeting my future wife. Today, when Y/n and I went back to that same Dunkin Donuts and sat down in the same spot that we had our first date, she asked me 'When we were sitting here five years ago, did you ever think that we would be sitting here again, but married?' and I told her 'My love, the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew that I was going to marry you someday. I don't think that I had that specific thought that we would be sitting here five years later as husband and wife, but I definitely had the thought that you would become my wife someday.' which made Y/n very happy. Happy five year meeting anniversary wifey! I love you!" Shawn wrote. I liked the post and smiled at him.
"Do you think that instead of going to the Boston Public Garden, we could just stay here for a bit?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah, that's fine my love." Shawn said before placing a kiss on my forehead. My forehead was left feeling tingly, even after his lips were no longer there. I suddenly felt an overwhelming amount of love for Shawn. I buried my face in his chest a little bit as he wrapped his arms around me. My throat began to burn as I held back tears. I sat up.
"Excuse me." I said as I stood up. I walked closer to the river and sat down as I hugged my knees to my chest. Some tears slipped out, but they weren't sad tears, they were happy tears. I heard footsteps and then Shawn sat down next to me.
"What's wrong honey?" He asked as I wiped the tears away.
"These are happy tears, I promise." I said. Shawn scooted closer to me and put an arm around me.
"Can you tell me why you're crying happy tears?" Shawn asked. I scooted as close to him as possible and leaned on him but looked up at him.
"No one has ever treated me like you do. No one has ever loved me like you do. No one has ever made me as happy as you do. I just, I guess I feel a bit overwhelmed with love right now. I'm so in love with you Shawn, and to know that you're so in love with me too is such an amazing feeling. And to be your wife? Oh Shawn, I love being your wife. I love being Mrs. Mendes. Being your wife has become the greatest honor ever. I just, I'm sorry that I'm crying, but I just love you so much and I'm so happy and proud to be your wife." I said. Shawn smiled at me as he wiped some of my tears away.
"I love you so much too honey. It's okay that you're crying. Do you want to know something?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said. His smile widened.
"I'm so happy and proud to be your husband." He said. I smiled and gave him a kiss. I tried to put all of my love into the kiss. I pulled away, put my hand to his cheek, and smiled at him.
"Shawn, I know that we've already said our vows and stuff, but I just. I want to promise you some stuff." I said.
"Okay." Shawn said. I looked into his beautiful brown eyes as I spoke.
"I promise you that I will always be proud to be your wife. I promise you that I will do everything that I can, every single day, to prove all of my love to you. I promise you that I will always stand by you and support you. I promise you that I will always try my hardest to make you as happy as possible, and I promise to always love you Shawn. Always and forever, I'll love you." I said. Shawn smiled and kissed me.
"You're amazing. Honey, I promise you that all you have to do is wake up and smile at me, and I'll be the happiest man alive. You don't have to do anything to prove your love to me. I know that you love me, and I'm so beyond grateful for your love. I love you Y/n Mendes. I love you. I love you. I love you." Shawn said before kissing me again. We eventually pulled away so we could catch our breaths.
"I love you too." I said. Shawn smiled at me.
"Let me show you how much I love you." Shawn said. I smiled and nodded.
"Okay." I said. We then went home and made love. I love Shawn, my husband, so much.
