106. Rose Looks At Your Instagram

Rose Mendes's point of view

I sat in my bedroom, on my laptop. I'm the seventeen year old daughter and eldest child of Shawn and Y/n Mendes. I have a fifteen year old brother, Jake, and a thirteen year old sister, Julia. I was looking at the Instagram website when I decided to look at my mom's Instagram. I hope she doesn't mind me scrolling back in her posts.

I scrolled past the more recent ones. They weren't the posts that I wanted to see. I wanted to see my parents first posts together and things like that. I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled. Finally, after many, many, many posts, I got to my mom's first ever post. It seemed like she didn't post much, but then once her and my dad went public, she posted more. I smiled at the videos that she had posted on Instagram from the night of my dad's concert - the night before my parents met. I also smiled when I saw the next post - a photo of her and my dad, it was their first picture together.

"Um, I was just at a Dunkin Donuts in Boston and met Shawn Mendes. Is this the best day of my whole life? Yes, yes it is." She had captioned it. I smiled. What she hadn't written in that post was that my father had almost immediately after that asked her out on a date, that they went on their second date the next day, and that my dad "courted" my mom for four months before he asked her to be his girlfriend. They didn't go public until they had been dating for five months. I looked at the post that was posted the day my parents went on their second date, which was the day after they met and had their first date.

"The view from Uncle Scottie's bench is always amazing." My mom wrote with some emojis. What she didn't write was that my dad was sitting right next to her when that photo was taken. I saw a photo that was a vase of pink tulips - the flowers that my dad had given her the day he asked her to be his girlfriend. I looked at when it was posted - December 22, 2019, the day my dad asked her to be his girlfriend.

"Today was a good day." She captioned it. It was probably a good day because of what my dad had asked her that day. The next day, she posted a few photos that were taken at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where my parents went on their first date as boyfriend and girlfriend.

"Trips to the MFA are the best kind of trips." She wrote. In one of the pictures you could see someone's back in the corner of the frame - it was my dad. I didn't care about the fact that it might look weird, I liked the post. Actually, I had been liking each of these posts. Due to the fact that they didn't want rumors to spread, there were no posts that clearly involved my dad - with the exception of the post from when they met - until they went public. I saw the post of her and my dad kissing, and read the caption (A/n: if you want to know what Y/n wrote for her caption to announce their relationship, it's in imagine number 27 in this book) and loved it. The next post was another one of her and my dad taking shots. The next post, Uncle Josiah had taken the photos, and it was my mom sitting on my dad's lap as she leaned on him, one where she was whispering in his ear, a photo of my dad throwing his head back as he laughed, and then one of them kissing.

"Thank you Josiah for capturing these moments. I had lots of fun meeting Shawn's team yesterday! Love you Shawnyyy." Mom captioned it. I smiled at all of the posts about her and my dad. One of them was of my parents comforting each other, and it looked like they were at an airport.

"Being in a long distance relationship absolutely sucks, but Shawn is so beyond worth it. He's worth everything in the world. I love you and miss you Shawn. Can't wait until we're reunited again." She captioned it. I loved all of the posts of my parents, and I couldn't help but smile even more when I found the pictures that my mom had posted, announcing their engagement. I kept scrolling, and found pictures from their wedding. One of them was of my mom in her wedding dress, with my dad on one side of her, and Uncle Johnny, mom's former neighbor on the other side of her.

"Shawn, Johnny and I take our cha cha slides very seriously." She captioned it. The next day she posted another picture from their wedding. It was from their first dance, their smiles were huge, and it was framed in the living room. My mom put a quote as her caption.

"'Only once in a lifetime you meet that special someone who can melt your heart, make you feel butterflies in your stomach and make you feel weak in your knees. It is very rare to cross your path with that special someone who comes along and turns your life upside down with his love and affection. It is magical to find someone who comes along and warms your soul by lighting an eternal fire. So when you find this special someone who loves you with every bit of his heart and soul, embrace him, cherish him, treasure him and give him all the love you have in your heart.'- Unknown." She captioned it. I smiled.

I looked at the pictures that my mom had posted from their honeymoon, and it was so beautiful. Then, there were the photos from the day after my dad had announced that he would be taking a break from music. My parents had told me about that day (A/n: If you want to learn more about that day, it's in imagine number 103 of this book and it's called Hiatus Beard) because they had loved it so much. My mom made two posts that day. One of the posts had two pictures, one of them was from my parents first date as boyfriend and girlfriend, the other was of their first time back to MFA since they had gotten married. The next post also had two pictures from that day. One was my parents sitting still on the swings, the other was them swinging. My mom's face when they were swinging was priceless. I read the caption.

"My hubby and I are swinging into his music hiatus and beard era like..." My mom wrote. I looked at the pictures that my mom had posted. There were pictures of my dad with a beard. Wait, what? He's never had a beard - at least not since I was born. I picked up my laptop, left my room, and went downstairs. My parents were on the deck, their arms around each other as they looked out at the backyard. I set my laptop down on the kitchen table and stepped outside.

"Mom? Dad?" I asked. They turned around and smiled at me.

"Hi sweet pea. What's up?" Daddy asked.

"Can I show you guys something?" I asked. The nodded.

"Of course you can." Mom said. We went inside and I stood near my laptop.

"So, I wanted to see posts from when you guys were dating and stuff like that, so mom, I hope that you don't mind, but I scrolled way back in your Instagram. Like, to your first post." I said.

"Oh wow, that's a lot of posts." She said. I nodded.

"Yup. So, I was looking at photos from Daddy's break from music, and I saw that he had a beard. What? When did that happen? How come you don't have a beard anymore Daddy?" I asked as I turned my laptop so my parents could see the photo of my dad smiling at my mom while he had a full on beard and mustache.

"Oh my gosh I miss that beard." Mom said. Daddy laughed and wrapped an arm around her waist.

"Well, Grandpa Manny was actually the one who suggested that I shave it off. We had just told my parents and Aunt Aaliyah that we were pregnant with you and your grandfather said that I should shave off my beard so I wouldn't give you scratchy kisses." Daddy said. I nodded.

"Oh, okay. Mom, do you mind if I keep looking at your Instagram?" I asked. She smiled and shook her head.

"No, not at all." She said. I smiled and went upstairs again. I looked at all of the posts. There were posts of my mom announcing that her and my dad were pregnant with me, pictures from her pregnancy, and then pictures of me. I looked at all of the beautiful photos and it was wonderful. I love my parents so much.
