Shawn's point of view

I stood on stage at TD Garden in Boston. This was my first time performing here since I had gotten married and had kids. I've been married to Y/n Mendes for eight years, and we have three beautiful children together. Rose Lucille Mendes is our oldest. She's seven. Our middle child is Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes, he's five, and our youngest is Sarah Grace Mendes, and she's three. I looked around the venue and then spoke into the microphone.

"So, the last time I played here, Y/n and I were engaged. Now we're married and have three beautiful kids together. Actually, for this next song, I would like to bring someone on stage. Would you guys mind if I bring someone on stage?" I asked and the crowd cheered. I smiled and stopped to the side of the stage where Y/n and the kids were.

"Hi Daddy." Rose said. I smiled at her.

"Hi sweet pea." I said.

"Are you bringing one of them on stage?" Y/n, my beautiful wife asked me. I nodded.

"Yeah. I'm going to play My Rosie Girl." I said. I then looked at Rose. "Want to come on stage with me?"

"Yeah!" She said as she began jumping up and down. I smiled and held out my hand for her to take. She put her little hand in my big one and the crowd cheered louder when they saw her. I picked her up and put her on my hip.

"So, this is my oldest child, Rose Lucille Mendes. Rosie, can you say hi?" I asked.

"Hi." She said as she waved to the crowd.

"Rose, how old are you now?" I asked.

"I'm seven!" She said with a big smile and I nodded.

"Yes you are. I love you sweet pea. Did you know that?" I asked. She nodded.

"Yeah, you like to tell me that a lot. I love you too Daddy." She said. I smiled and then set her down - but held her hand - and turned back to the microphone.

"Watch this." I said to my fans. I then held my index finger out. Rose saw it and realized what I was doing, wrapped her hand around my finger, and then began spinning around it. I smiled and laughed as I watched her before turning back to the microphone. "Her and I will literally do this for hours and it keeps her entertained. Rosie, I have a song to sing. Do you want to stay up here while I sing?" I asked. She stopped spinning and looked at me and nodded.

"Yeah! What song?" She asked.

"Well this song is called My Rosie Girl and I wrote it on your first birthday." I said. She nodded.

"Okay." She said. I smiled and then turned to the microphone.

"If you guys listen to the album, when you hear this song, at the very end you can hear her saying 'I love you Daddy.' and I said 'I love you too sweet pea.' and that wasn't planned at all. What had happened was, Rose was about two, and I brought her and Y/n into the studio. Y/n had Rose on her hip, and Rose got restless, so Y/n put her down. Rose came running into the booth, but I didn't see this because I had my eyes closed. All of the sudden I felt someone tugging on my hand and I looked and it was Rose. I put my finger to my lips as I picked her up so she would know to stay quiet, and then at the very end of the song, she said that she loved me and it was perfect. All right Rosie, are you ready for Daddy to sing?" I asked as I looked at my daughter. She jumped up and down.

"Yeah!" She said. I smiled and danced with her a little as I sang the song. Soon, it came to an end.

"Rosie, do you think that we should bring your Mommy and your brother and sister on stage too?" I asked. Rose nodded.

"Yeah!" She said.

"Okay. You stay over there with Uncle Zubin, and I'll be right back. Don't go running off like you do sometimes, okay?" I asked. She nodded.

"Okay." She said and I walked her over to Zubin.

"Please make sure that she doesn't go running off." I said to him. He nodded.

"Don't worry, I got her." He said. I nodded and then walked off stage again. Y/n had Sarah on her hip and she was holding Jake's hand.

"Do you think that they'll be okay on stage?" Y/n asked. I nodded as I took Sarah into my arms. All of my kids have a special place in my heart, but Sarah was our last baby, so I like to make sure that she knows that he's loved.

"Yeah. Do you want to hold Jake and I'll take her?" I asked. Y/n nodded.

"Yeah." She said as she picked up Jake. We walked on stage and Rose was still with Zubin. The crowd cheered when they saw all of us. Rose came over to me and stood next to me as we went over to the microphone. I introduced everyone, and then pointed at my wife.

"And this, ladies and gentlemen, is my amazing wife Y/n Mendes. The last time that she was on stage with me, we were engaged and she was Y/n Y/l/n. Now she's my wife of eight years and the mother to our three kids. I can't put into words how lucky I truly am to have such an amazing family. When Rose was born, obviously I had seen pictures of my wife when she was a baby, and besides Rose's nose, she was a spitting image of her mother, which I loved. When my mother in law, who's here tonight, somewhere, held Rose for the first time, she said 'Oh my gosh I feel like I'm holding Y/n again.' and it was great. Mrs. Mendes, have the kids been good for you while I'm away?" I asked. Y/n nodded.

"Mostly." She said. My eyes widened.

"Mostly? What do you mean mostly?" I asked. Y/n sighed.

"There were many nights that the kids didn't want to fall asleep because you weren't there to sing to them." She said.

"Call me next time babe. I don't care if I'm in a q and a, I'll stop what I'm doing so I can sing to them to get them to fall asleep for you." I said. Y/n nodded.

"Okay." She said. I kissed her cheek.

"No!" Jake said as he pushed me away.

"No? I can't give your Mommy a kiss on the cheek?" I asked Jake. He shook his head.

"No." He said.

"Why not?" I asked. He then clung to Y/n as if his life depended on it.

"My Mommy." He said. I laughed.

"She is your Mommy, and I know that you're a Momma's boy, but I like giving my wife a kiss on the cheek." I said. Jake buried his face in Y/n's neck and she rubbed his back.

"He's okay." She said and I nodded before turning back to the microphone.

"Jake is definitely a Momma's boy, but Rose and Sarah are Daddy's girls. Right my princesses?" I asked them and they nodded. Due to the way that I was holding Sarah, if she spoke, the crowd could hear her because of the microphone.

"Dada I want to cuddle." She said. I smiled.

"I know that you do, you like to cuddle with me and we haven't cuddled in a while, but I have to do this concert, okay?" I asked. She nodded.

"Okay." She said. I then got an idea.

"Wait, let me do something that always makes Sarah laugh and I love it so much." I said. I then held her sideways and began to spin her around in circles, causing her to laugh. I stopped for a moment so the fans could hear her laugh, and then began to spin her again, and she laughed some more. I then stopped and moved her so I was holding her properly.

"More Daddy." She said.

"Daddy's getting dizzy." I said with a laugh. She nodded.

"Okay." She said before resting her head on my shoulder.

"Wasn't that just such a beautiful laugh? Sarah and I will do that for as long as we can, and I love hearing my sweet little girl laugh as much as she can." I asked and said. The crowd cheered louder. Sarah then started crying.

"Daddy." She cried. I frowned.

"What's wrong honey?" I asked.

"Too loud and I'm tired." She said as she cried. I turned towards Y/n and walked away from the microphone.

"Should I bring her to your dressing room?" Y/n asked. I thought for a moment.

"Too loud, too loud." Sarah said. I went back over to the microphone.

"Guys, I love hearing you cheer, but could you quiet down a little bit please? Sarah's tired and she's saying it's too loud. That's why she's crying. So, for the sake of my little one, could you guys quiet down a little please?" I asked and they did. Not by a lot, but still, it was a little bit. I went back over to Y/n.

"I'll stay with her backstage." Y/n said.

"Well I want you to enjoy the concert too. What if someone on my team watches her?" I asked. Y/n thought for a moment before nodding.

"Okay." She said. Sarah was still crying a little bit and I wanted to get her to calm down a little bit. I went over to the microphone so she would be able to hear me better.

"Sarah, you're going to stay in Daddy's dressing room with someone on my team, but I want to get you to calm down a little bit. Put your head on my shoulder and close your eyes honey." I said and watched as she did that. I then began to make humming noises as I gently rocked her back and forth. I remembered hearing Y/n's mother do it to Rose once, and she said that it used to calm Y/n down when she was little. Soon, Sarah's cries calmed down and I smiled. Y/n and the kids waved to the crowd and someone from my team took Sarah.

"So I'll stay here with Jake and Rose. Are you sure that I shouldn't go be with her?" Y/n asked. I nodded.

"I'm positive. She'll be fine. I love you honey." I said. Y/n smiled.

"I love you too." She said. I then went back on stage.

"I remember hearing my mother in law sing that to Rose once and she said that it used to help Y/n fall asleep when she was little. I know I said this earlier, but I truly am the luckiest man in the world. I have the most amazing wife and the most amazing three kids. Obviously taking a break from making an album and touring for about six or seven years was hard, but it was so worth it. Because I took that break, I got to hold Rose as she said her first word - which was Dada by the way - and I got to watch Jake crawl for the first time, and I got to watch Sarah take her first steps. I wrote so many songs while I was taking a break and so many of them were about Y/n, or about our wedding day or our honeymoon, and then when we had kids, I wrote so many songs about them too. I love my family so much and I'm so lucky. Okay, before I get emotional, let's get going with this concert." I said. I'm the luckiest man alive, and I loved bringing my kids on stage with me.
