93. Stood Up
I stood in the closet that I share with my fiancé, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes. Shawn is currently at a meeting, but he will be meeting me at the restaurant nearby. We decided that we would discuss plans for our wedding next May. I put on a blue and white striped button, dark blue jeans, and gray boots. I put on mascara, eye shadow, and eyeliner. I hoped that Shawn likes my outfit.
I got in the car and turned on the radio. In My Blood started playing and I smiled as I looked at my beautiful engagement ring. I then backed out of the driveway and went to the restaurant. Shawn's jeep wasn't there, but maybe he was just running a little late. I went into the restaurant. Shawn had put the reservations under my last name, because if we had put it under Mendes, people would most likely suspect that it's Shawn.
I sat down at the table at the restaurant and waited for Shawn as the waiter gave me a glass of water. I waited ten minutes before pulling out my phone and calling Shawn. He didn't answer. I waited another ten minutes before calling him again, and once again, he didn't answer. A waiter then came up to me.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but is the other half of your party coming? We have people waiting for a table." He said.
"I guess he's not coming. I'll just go, I'm sorry." I said. I put some money down on the table in a way to apologize for the inconvenience and then left. When I pulled into the driveway at home, Shawn's jeep was there. Are you kidding me? I went inside and Shawn was sitting on the couch. He smiled when he saw me.
"Hello my darling. Where were you?" He asked. My jaw dropped.
"Are you kidding me?" I asked. He gave me a confused look.
"No I'm not kidding. Why would I be kidding?" He asked.
"Where were you tonight?" I asked.
"I had gone out to the bar with the band, Andrew, Geoff, and Brian. Why?" He asked.
"Do you remember where you were supposed to be tonight?" I asked. He thought for a moment and then scratched his head. He shook his head.
"No. Is there a certain place that I was supposed to be?" He asked.
"Remember how we were supposed to have a date night so we could discuss plans for our wedding?" I asked. His eyes widened.
"Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry babe." Shawn said.
"Whatever Shawn." I said. I went upstairs and got changed. I had shut the door and locked it so Shawn couldn't get in. I was hurt and upset. Shawn tried to open the door, but he couldn't get in.
"Please let me in honey. I'm so sorry." Shawn said. I ignored him and got a pillow and blanket instead. I then opened the door and handed it all to him.
"Here, you can sleep on the couch." I said. Shawn sighed as he took the stuff.
"Baby girl please. I don't want to sleep on the couch, I want to sleep in bed with you." He said.
"Well you should have thought about that before you forgot about our date night. Shawn, we were going to go over wedding plans! How could you forget about this?" I asked. Shawn ran his fingers through his hair.
"I'm sorry honey. I didn't mean to forget about it. Can we sit down and talk about the wedding plans right now please?" He asked. I thought for a moment before shaking my head.
"I'm too upset right now. I just need to wind down and go to bed and sleep." I said. Shawn nodded.
"You know I love you, right?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yes. I love you too. Good night Shawn." I said and shut the door before he could respond. I locked the door again and went to bed. I tossed and turned, trying to fall asleep. If I can fall asleep alone while he's on tour, then I can fall asleep alone for one night while he's sleeping on the couch. But I couldn't sleep.
I went downstairs and saw Shawn laying on the couch. His hair looked messy, as if he had been tugging at it or something. His eyes were closed, and he was asleep. I walked over to the couch and lifted up the blanket a little and got under the covers with him. In his sleep, he instinctively wrapped his arm around me. His hold on me made me feel safe and warm. Had I done the right thing by telling him to sleep on the couch? I quickly fell asleep in his arms. I then woke up to the feeling of someone rubbing my cheek. I opened my eyes and saw Shawn looking at me.
"Good morning honey. I thought that you wanted to sleep alone?" Shawn asked. I sighed.
"Good morning. Yeah, I did, but I couldn't fall asleep so I came down here, and then once I was in your arms I was able to fall asleep. Did you know that in your sleep, you just instinctively wrap your arm around me?" I asked. Shawn smiled.
"No, I didn't know that. I'm sorry about last night honey. Can we do date night tonight please?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yes, just promise me that you won't forget, okay?" I asked. He nodded.
"I promise you that I won't forget. Come here darling." Shawn said as he pulled me closer to him.
"I love you Shawn." I said. Shawn smiled.
"I love you too Y/n. I can't wait for the wedding. It's going to be magical, my love." Shawn said and I nodded. Shawn told me to wear the same outfit that I had last night for date night tonight since I looked gorgeous in it - his words, not mine - and they weren't dirty. Shawn and I went out for date night that night and went over some wedding plans. We continued to go over wedding plans when we got home.
"It feels nice to talk about the wedding and plan it." I said as we sat at our kitchen table. We already had a venue, now we were trying to figure out how we wanted to decorate it.
"Yeah. What do you think about having a chalkboard and on it, in cursive it can say something like 'It was always you. Y/n + Shawn.' and then have our wedding date underneath it?" Shawn asked. My eyes widened.
"I love that! Have you been looking at my Pinterest?" I asked with a giggle. Shawn's face turned red as he nodded.
"Yup, I have." He said. I smiled.
"What do you think of living a chair empty during the ceremony, but the chair would have a sign on it saying that it's in honor of those that have passed away?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment, his handsome face deep in concentration.
"Well, what about having a sign at the reception that saying something like 'We know you would be here today, if Heaven weren't so far away.' and we could have pictures of those loved ones that have passed away?" He asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, I like that idea." I said. He smiled.
"Good. I think that we should stop for the night. Do you want to cuddle on the couch Y/n?" Shawn asked. I nodded. When we sat down on the couch, I posted a photo that I had taken when Shawn and I were sitting at the table looking at wedding stuff. I wrote a caption and posted the photo on Instagram.
"Shawn Mendes: singer and songwriter by day, expert wedding planner by night. No but seriously guys, Shawn has amazing ideas for the wedding and I'm completely awe of this amazing man and I can't wait to marry him!" I wrote before posting it. Shawn gets notifications when I post, so he check it and smiled as he liked the photo. He then commented on it.
"I wouldn't have been able to come up with those ideas if I hadn't looked at your Pinterest. I love you darling and I can't wait to marry you either." Shawn commented. I smiled at him and we soon went to bed. The following May 23, we become husband and wife. I love Shawn so much, even when he accidentally stands me up for date night.
