85. "Shawn Mendes's Wife"

A/n: So I know that not everybody is part of a charity, but I work with the American Heart Association and I needed a charity to mention. Anyways, please enjoy this imagine. Okay, let's begin!

I am on the board for the American Heart Association, a charity that is near and dear to my heart. My uncle died of a heart attack when I was ten, and for many years, my family and I have been raising money in honor of him for the American Heart Association. Tonight, the AHA is having a Heart Ball, it's one of their events, and my husband, Shawn Mendes, and Shawn's manager, Andrew Gertler, are coming along.

I put on a red long red dress, pulled my hair back into a ponytail, and did my makeup. I only put on some mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and red lipstick. I was going for a red theme since that's the color for the American Heart Association. I also put on red heels. When I stepped out of the bathroom, Shawn was wearing a white button up shirt with a black tie and black suit and black dress pants. I smiled at him and his eyes widened when he saw me.

"Oh my gosh honey, you look amazing." He said, and I blushed.

"Thank you baby. You don't look too bad yourself. In fact, you look quite handsome." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek and the doorbell rang.

"That's probably Andrew." Shawn said, and I nodded. I took Shawn's hand and interlaced our fingers. I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt so safe and so warm.

"Oh, I almost forgot my purse." I said as I grabbed it off of the bed.

"Wait, let me take a picture of my beautiful, gorgeous, and stunning wife." Shawn said, and I blushed again.

"Shawn, Andrew is waiting." I said as he pulled out his phone.

"It'll just take a second babe. You look so good honey. So beautiful." Shawn said.

"Well thank you." I said. He smiled at me and took my hand again. We then went downstairs and Shawn opened the door. Andrew was standing there.

"Hey. What took you guys so long?" Andrew asked.

"Well my wife looks extremely gorgeous, so I couldn't help but take a photo of her." Shawn said as we headed out to the car.

"Do you want me to take a picture of the two of you together when we get to the event?" Andrew asked as Shawn helped me into the car.

"Sure. There's probably going to be photographers there, but I would love to have a trillion photos with my beautiful wife." Shawn said. I giggled.

"Oh my gosh Shawn." I said.

"What?" He asked.

"You love to gush about me, don't you?" I asked as I looked at him. He nodded.

"Yup. I have the most gorgeous, most beautiful, most stunning, and most amazing wife ever, and I love to brag about that." Shawn said.

"I love you." I said. Shawn's smile widened.

"I love you too darling." He said. We soon arrived at the event and had our picture taken. A little bit later, we were brought into the main room for the event. There were many circular tables and a stage with a podium on it. I had my speech in my purse. We were soon seated and then someone went up to the podium. Some speeches were made, and then it was my turn to be introduced.

"Please welcome to the stage, chairwoman to one of our fundraising boards, and Grammy nominated singer Shawn Mendes's wife, Y/n Mendes." The person said. I stood up and went to the podium. I looked at the crowd, thanked everyone for coming, made my speech, and then went back to my seat next to Shawn. He kissed the side of my head.

"Great job babe. I know that you don't like speaking in front of people, but you did a great job." He said. I smiled at his compliment.

"Thank you." I said. He then leaned over and whispered in my ear, sending shivers down my spine

"Can I ask you a question?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said.

"Did you ask them to mention the fact that you're my wife?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"No." I said. We had a nice time at the ball, and then got in the car to leave.

"Y/n, when they introduced you to make your speech, had you asked them to mention the fact that you're Shawn's wife?" Andrew asked as I leaned on Shawn. I shook my head.

"No. I'll be honest, I can't help but feel a bit like Lee Radziwill right now." I said with a small laugh.

"Isn't that former First Lady Jackie Kennedy's little sister?" Andrew asked.

"Yes! Exactly! Lee was always living in her big sister's shadow. Everyone remembers the fact that Lee was the little sister to one of the world's most famous women of the twentieth century who was dubbed America's Queen, but not a lot of people remember the fact that Lee was a successful interior designer at one point, she was also an actress at one point, she wrote a couple of books, and she was a New York socialite, always at fashion shows. She was her own person and did her own things, but every time she was interviewed, it never failed that Jackie was mentioned. It got to the point where, in one interview, Lee specifically asked that all mentions of her sister be taken out. Yes, she was Jackie's sister, but she was her own person too, yet she was constantly living in Jackie's shadow." I said. Shawn kissed the side of my head and we soon arrived at home.

"Do you need help getting the dress off babe?" Shawn asked. I nodded as I took my heels off.

"Yes please." I said. We went upstairs and he unzipped my dress. He then kissed my bare shoulder.

"You looked absolutely magnificent tonight my love. You always do." Shawn said. I smiled.

"Thank you honey. You looked quite handsome, but then again, you always do." I said as I turned to face him. He smiled at me.

"I'm so proud of you. You're a school counselor but on top of that you help the American Heart Association. You're amazing. Take off your lipstick so I can give you a kiss baby." Shawn said. I nodded and went into the bathroom and took off my makeup. I felt bad for what I had said in the car. I stepped out of the bathroom and Shawn had already gotten changed into a t-shirt and shorts. I put on a shirt of his which was like a dress on me, and didn't put any shorts or pants on.

"Ready to kiss?" I asked.

"Always." Shawn said with a smirk. I put my lips on his and felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks, and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy. Shawn and I pulled away and smiled at each other.

"Can we talk for a little bit before we fall asleep please?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Of course." Shawn said. I sat down on my side of the bed and he went around and sat on his side of the bed and opened up his arms for me to come into. I cuddled up to him and put my head on his chest and sighed. I then sat up so I could look at him.

"Did you know that I love being your wife?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.

"Well considering the fact that you love it when I call you Mrs. Mendes, yes, I think that I knew that." Shawn said. I smiled and nodded.

"I love being your wife, but I don't understand why they had to announce that when they introduced me tonight to make my speech. This is my own thing. The American Heart Association isn't something that you handed off for me to do. I've been doing it since before I even met you. I'm proud to be your wife, I'm proud that my last name is now Mendes, and that's because of you, but this is my own thing." I said. Shawn nodded and pulled me close to him.

"I know baby. I don't think that they should have mentioned me when they were introducing you to the podium. You are you. Yes, you're my wife, but I don't want you living in my shadow, and I know that you don't want that either." Shawn said. I nodded my head against his chest.

"You're right. But Shawn, please know that I truly do love being your wife and I'm so beyond proud to be your wife. And that's not just because you're a singer, that's because you're you. I would be proud to be your wife even if we were homeless and you weren't the famous singer that you are now." I said. Shawn kissed the top of my head.

"I know honey. I have to say, I love being your husband, and I'm so beyond proud to be your husband. You, my darling wife, are an extraordinary woman." Shawn said. I looked up at him and smiled.

"Thank you baby. I love you." I said. He smiled back.

"You're welcome. I love you too." He said.

"We should go to sleep now." I said, and Shawn nodded as we got underneath the covers. He pulled me nice and close to him and slung his leg over my hip so I couldn't get up unless he was awake.

"Hey honey?" Shawn asked.

"Yes babe?" I asked.

"Maybe tomorrow you could call the people at the American Heart Association and just talk to them about it, you know?" He asked.

"What would I say?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment.

"Just tell them that if you're ever asked to make a speech for them again, to not mention that you're my wife since it has nothing to do with the AHA and what you do for them." Shawn said.

"Okay. I'll do that in the morning. I love you Shawn. Good night." I said. Shawn kissed my forehead and then rested his forehead against mine.

"I love you too Y/n. Good night honey." He said. The next morning, a little bit after breakfast, I called one of the people at the AHA.

"Hey Y/n, how are you?" The lady asked.

"I'm good, how are you?" I asked.

"Good. What can I do for you?" She asked.

"Last night I made a speech at the Heart Ball, and when I was introduced, the lady that introduced me, Melissa, said that I'm a chairwoman for one of the boards, and then said that I'm Grammy nominated singer Shawn Mendes's wife. Please don't get me wrong, I'm very proud to be his wife, but I don't feel as though it was necessary for that to be mentioned when I was being introduced. My participation with the AHA is my own thing, it's not something that Shawn handed to me, and I've been working with you guys since before I even met my husband. If I'm ever asked to do a speech for you guys again, which I would be honored to do, all I ask is that you don't mention the fact that I'm Shawn's wife since it has nothing to do with my work with you guys." I said.

"Well your husband has always made good sized donations. I believe that there was a time that he donated five thousand dollars." The lady said.

"Yes, that's true that ever since we met he's always made donations every year for the walk, but it's not like when other people were being introduced for speeches, Melissa was saying 'and this is so and so's cousin'. It was only for me that my husband was mentioned." I pointed out.

"Would you like to step down from your position at the AHA?" The lady asked.

"Oh my gosh no, I love what I do, all I'm asking is that, since this is my own thing, and not my husband's, I just don't want my husband mentioned. I love my husband dearly and I'm very proud of the fact that he's my husband, but he agreed that he shouldn't have been mentioned." I said.

"Okay. I'll make a note of it in your file. Have a nice day Y/n." She said.

"Thank you, you too." I said.

"Bye." She said.

"Bye." I said, and we hung up. I then went to Shawn, who was leaning against the railing of our back deck. He turned around when he heard me.

"Hey baby girl." Shawn said as he opened his arms up. I wrapped my arms around his waist and he wrapped his arms around my shoulders.

"Hey baby boy." I said.

"How did the phone conversation go?" Shawn asked.

"I told them how I felt, and they said how you've always made good sized donations, and I pointed out that although that's true, the same goes for other people's relatives, yet they don't say 'this is so and so's brother' and stuff like that. She actually asked me if I wanted to step down from my position and I said no, I love what I do, I just want this to be my own thing so I don't want you mentioned." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Okay. How do you feel about how the conversation went?" Shawn asked.

"Good. Please understand that I'm not ashamed that you're my husband Shawn, I'm very proud of the fact that we're husband and wife, I just like that this is my own thing." I said. Shawn kissed the top of my head.

"I know baby, I understand. I'm also very proud of the fact that we're husband and wife." Shawn said. I looked up at him and smiled.

"Really?" I asked. He chuckled and nodded.

"Of course. I love you so much. You're an amazing woman, and I love the fact that you took my last name." Shawn said. My smile widened.

"I love you too, and I love being a Mendes." I said.

"Well, my precious wife, you're always going to be a Mendes." Shawn said. I nodded and rested my head on his chest again.

"Look at this Shawn. Look at what we've done in the matter of five years. We've gotten married, we've moved in together, we have a beautiful home together. I love this. I love life with you Shawn. You make everything amazing." I said as I looked out at our backyard where we had a garden in the very back of it and a nice, big tree in the middle of the backyard. Shawn took his hand and put it to my cheek so I was looking up at him.

"I love life with you too, and you're the one that makes everything amazing baby girl." Shawn said. I put my lips on his and we kissed again. I love the AHA, but most importantly, I love being Shawn's wife.
