Shawn's point of view

All of my friends and family know that I want to marry my girlfriend of three years, Y/n Y/l/n. Even her former next door neighbors know it, but that's mostly because she's so close to them. I was in Europe one day when my phone rang. It was Y/n's former next door neighbor, Dave, who has known my girlfriend since her mom was pregnant with her and is basically my girlfriend's second father.

"Hey Dave, how are you?" I asked.

"I'm good Shawn. How are you?" He asked.

"I'm good. Is everything okay?" I asked. He rarely calls.

"Yeah, I actually just wanted to talk to you about something." He said.

"Oh, okay. What's up?" I asked.

"I know that you want to propose to Y/n, and I know that you want to wait until after tour, but my brother owns a lake house up in New Hampshire and it's beautiful up there. Don't you get a break from tour during the summer?" Dave asked. I checked my schedule.

"Yeah. I'll be home from April thirteenth until June eleventh." I said.

"Okay. Well, once Y/n's out of school for the summer, which I think happens in May, why don't you swing by our house and get the key. My brother thinks that the lake house would be the perfect place to propose and the summertime would be a perfect time to do it. He wants to give you the lake house for a week." Dave said, and my jaw dropped.

"Wait, seriously?" I asked. Dave laughed.

"Yup." He said.

"Okay. Thank you guys so much." I said.

"I'll pass that message on to my brother since it's his lake house." Dave said.

"Okay, cool. Um, I already got Y/n's parent's permission to propose, but you're basically her second father. Is it okay with you if I propose to her?" I asked. I could tell that Dave was getting choked up.

"Of course. You can tell how in love you guys are, everyone can see it. I'll text you the address for the lake house." Dave said. I smiled.

"Okay. Seriously, please thank your brother and his wife for this." I said.

"Will do. Just let us know what week you want the lake house and then stop by so we can give you the key." Dave said. I nodded even though he couldn't see me.

"Okay. Talk to you later Dave." I said.

"Bye Shawn." He said, and we hung up. I then called my beautiful girlfriend.

"Hey handsome." She said, and just the mere sound of her voice made me smile.

"Hey gorgeous. I have a question for you." I said.

"What is it?" She asked.

"When is your last day of school?" I asked. There was a pause.

"I think that it's around May thirteenth. Why?" She said and asked. I smiled.

"I have a surprise for you when I get home." I said. Y/n groaned, causing me to laugh.

"You know how I feel about surprises!" Y/n said.

"Yes, but it's going to be a good surprise, I promise." I said.

"Ugh. Fine. I'm only doing this because I love you." She said and I laughed.

"Well that's good because I love you too. I love that we've talked about our future and marriage and kids and stuff like that. I'm going to propose to you someday, I promise." I said. There was a pause. "You still there babe?"

"Yeah, I just, um. I love you so much and it just makes me so happy to know that you want to marry me." Y/n said with a sniffle.

"Oh honey, I love you too, and of course I want to marry you. I've wanted to marry you from the moment that I laid eyes on you. Are you crying happy tears or sad tears?" I asked.

"Happy tears." She said.

"Okay. Well I have to go, but I'll talk to you later honey, okay?" I asked.

"Okay. I love you." She said. I smiled.

"I love you too, my princess." I said, and we hung up.

Your point of view

April 13th.

I sat on the couch in mine and Shawn's living room. He should be home for his first break from tour any minute now and I couldn't possibly be any more excited. I felt fidgety and impatient. After not seeing him for a few months, I just wanted to hug him and kiss him. I soon began to pace around the room, and then the door swung open and Shawn walked in.

"SHAWN!" I yelled as I ran into his arms. My legs went around his waist and my arms went around his shoulders as his hands went underneath my bum to hold me securely.

"Hey there darling." Shawn said. I held him tight.

"Hi. I missed you so much baby." I said as Shawn set me down and smiled at me.

"I missed you so much too. How has your day been so far?" Shawn asked as we sat down on the couch.

"Well, to be honest with you, I've felt fidgety and impatient all day, just wanting you home. I know that you love touring, but I've just missed my man so much." I said with a laugh. Shawn laughed and nodded.

"I may love tour, but I love you way more. In fact, I love you more than anything in this whole entire world." Shawn said, and I smiled.

"I love you too. Do you want to know what one of the things I've been impatient about is?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"No. What is it?" He asked. I smirked.

"Kissing you." I said. Shawn smiled at me and immediately put his lips on mine. I felt my heart race as if it were about to beat out of my chest, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Shawn and I soon pulled away and smiled at each other.

"Better?" He asked. I nodded.

"Much. Now, what's my surprise?" I asked. Shawn laughed.

"Well, it can't happen until after you're done with school for the semester, but all we have to do is pick a week and we get Dave's brother's lake house in New Hampshire for a week." Shawn said with a smile. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped.

"Are you serious?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yup." He said.

"And it would be just the two of us there?" I asked. Shawn chuckled and nodded.

"Yup. Nobody else, just us." Shawn said. I clapped my hands together and Shawn laughed.

"When do we get to go?" I asked. Shawn shrugged.

"Sometime after your school gets out for the summer." He said. I nodded.

"I can't wait! I'm so excited!" I said, and Shawn smiled at me. Shawn and I decided to go to the lake house on May nineteenth, and we would come back on the twenty sixth. We picked the key up from Dave and soon we were on the road to Lovell Lake. Shawn kept one hand on the steering wheel and held my hand with his other hand. He seemed nervous, so I gave his hand a squeeze.

"What's up honey?" Shawn asked.

"Why do you seem nervous?" I asked as I watched him. Shawn shrugged.

"I guess I just want to get there. I'm not really a big fan of long drives and this drive is supposed to be a little over two hours long." Shawn said. I felt like there was something else that he was nervous about, but I knew that he would tell me whenever he was ready to. I nodded.

"It'll be okay. Let's put the radio on, okay?" I asked. Shawn nodded and I turned on the radio. We then decided to just put in a John Mayer cd, and when Your Body Is A Wonderland came on, Shawn started to sing along while glancing over at me every once in a while, making me giggle and blush. We soon arrived at the lake house.

"We're here." Shawn said as we pulled into the driveway.

"Yay!" I said. Shawn chuckled and we soon got our luggage and stepped inside the house.

"Woah." Shawn and I said when we stepped inside. The house was just as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. I smiled. We get a whole week here. Shawn and I found our bedroom and put our luggage away.

"Let's go outside." Shawn said. I nodded and we interlaced our fingers together. As our skin touched, I felt sparks shoot through me, yet I felt safe and warm all at the same time. We stepped outside onto the big deck where there was a long staircase leading to a patio type of thing. Shawn and I looked out at the view. Once you got to the patio, the sand was just past it, and the lake after that. It truly was beautiful. I smiled at the view as Shawn stood behind me and wrapped his arms around me from behind.

"It's beautiful." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek, causing my smile to widen.

"It is, but not as beautiful as you." Shawn said, causing me to blush.

"Come on, let's go out over there to the hammock." I said and Shawn nodded. We went down the stairs and cuddled up to each other on the hammock as we watched the sunset.

"I love you Y/n Y/l/n." Shawn said. I looked up at him and smiled.

"I love you too Shawn Mendes." I said and he smiled at me.

"Come on honey, let's go down onto the dock." Shawn said as he got up and I followed after him as we held hands.

"You're not going to push me into the water, are you?" I asked. Shawn laughed.

"No. Come here, I want to take a good look at my beautiful girlfriend." Shawn said as we stood on the dock and he held my hands in his. I blushed.

"Thank you." I said.

"You're welcome. I love you so fucking much honey." Shawn said as he gazed at me with such love in his eyes. I smiled.

"I love you so fucking much too." I said. Shawn held my cheeks as he kissed my forehead, causing my smile to widen. He then held my hands again and got down on one knee. "Holy shit." I said. Shawn laughed and I started to cry happy tears.

"Y/n Y/m/n Y/l/n, I have loved you from that very first moment that I saw you, that's when I fell in love with you, and that's when I knew that you were the one that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. You are literally the most beautiful girl in the world, but the love that I have for you goes beyond your looks. I love you for every single bit of your personality. I love how kind and caring and compassionate and loving you are. You're the literally the most amazing person that I've ever met. You're my best friend, my biggest cheerleader, my soulmate, my everything. I love you so much honey. You already make me the happiest man alive, but will you continue to make me the happiest man alive and marry me?" He asked. I nodded as I still held his hands and cried.

"Yes Shawn! Yes, yes, a million times yes!" I said. Shawn smiled and then slipped the most beautiful ring ever onto my finger. He stood up, gently grabbed my face, and kissed me. His arms then wrapped around my waist and I wrapped my arms around his shoulders as I raked my fingers through his hair as we kissed passionately. We then had to pull away so we could catch our breath.

"I love you." Shawn said. I smiled at him.

"I love you too. Oh my gosh, we're going to get married!" I said. Shawn laughed and pulled me in for a hug.

"I'm so fucking glad that you said yes." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Of course. Oh my gosh, I can't stop smiling and crying." I said. Shawn pulled away from the hug a little so he could help me to wipe away the tears. He smiled at me.

"Do you like the ring?" He asked nervously. I smiled and nodded as I looked at it.

"It's the most beautiful ring that I've ever laid eyes on!" I said, causing Shawn to smile. I slowly stopped crying.

"Good, I'm glad that you like it. I took Grace to help me pick it out." Shawn said, mentioning my best friend.

"Really?" I asked. He nodded and kissed my cheek.

"Yup. Should we go call our families?" He asked. I thought for a moment before shaking my head.

"No. Let's tell them and our friends tomorrow. Let's just savor this together for right now." I said. Shawn nodded as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders and I wrapped my arms around his waist. We stayed out on the dock like that, swaying from side to side and watching the sunset. We eventually went to bed and cuddled up to each other.

The next morning I woke up without Shawn's arms around me. Where's my fiancé? I got out of bed and wandered around the big house, looking for him without any luck. I then looked out at the deck. He was sitting at the table, drinking a beer, and looking out at the view. I stepped outside quietly and placed my hands on his shoulders, causing him to jump since he wasn't expecting it.

"Shhh love, it's just me." I said, and Shawn relaxed.

"Good morning gorgeous." He said. I smiled and walked in front of him.

"Good morning handsome. Can I sit on your lap please?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.

"Of course you can darling. Come here." He said, and when I sat on his lap, he put the beer down, and wrapped his arms around me. I looked at my beautiful engagement ring and smiled as I admired it.

"Shawn?" I asked.

"Yes love?" He asked.

"We're going to get married. You're my fiancé." I said with a smile. Shawn's arms wrapped around me tighter and he kissed my shoulder.

"This is all true my love. I can't wait for our wedding day. You're going to look beautiful, just like you always do." Shawn said, and I blushed. I then frowned.

"You have to go back on tour soon." I pointed out. Shawn sighed.

"Yeah. We'll start planning the wedding once tour is over, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded. "What's wrong baby?"

"I'm going to miss you even more now when you go on tour." I said as I looked out at the lake. Shawn kissed my shoulder again.

"I know honey, I feel the same way. But we'll make it through. We always do." Shawn said. I nodded and put my hands on his. "I actually have a question for you."

"What is it?" I asked as I turned in his lap a little so I could face him more. I ran my fingers through his hair and he smiled at me softly.

"Would you like to go on tour with me until school starts up again?" He asked. My jaw dropped.

"Are you sure?" I asked. Shawn chuckled and nodded.

"Yup. You don't have work over the summer and if you come on tour with me you can see me perform every single night and we wouldn't have to miss each other." Shawn said. I nodded and chewed at my bottom lip before smiling and nodding.

"Okay. I'll join you on tour." I said. Shawn's whole face lit up with excitement.

"Really?" He asked. I giggled and nodded.

"Really." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek.

"Oh honey you don't know just how happy that makes me. I love you." He said. I smiled at him.

"I love you too. Let's go have some breakfast." I said. We went inside to get our food but brought our food outside to eat. Later on we called our families and they were over the moon with joy for us. Later in the afternoon, we were sitting on the couch, watching tv, when the doorbell rang. Shawn and I gave each other looks of confusion before he went and opened the door.

"Hey Dave!" He said and I immediately stood up and hugged Dave.

"Hi guys! I just wanted to see if you guys wanted me to drive you around the lake in the boat?" He asked. We nodded.

"Yes, but first, this." I said as I held up my hand to show him my engagement ring. His eyes widened.

"Congratulations!" He said as he gave us hugs. He then looked at Shawn. "See? This is why my brother and I wanted to give you the lake house."

"Wait, what? You were in on the proposal?" I asked. Dave nodded.

"Yup." He said with a smile.

"Oh my gosh, let's just add this to the reasons why I love you." I said causing Dave and Shawn to laugh.

"Come on, let's go to the boat." Shawn said and we all went out back. At one point while we were in the boat, I sat on Shawn's lap. Dave stopped the boat for a moment so he could take a picture of us. (A/n: picture is above!) That night, after Dave left, Shawn and I told all of our friends and they were all very excited for us.

The next day, Shawn and I announced our engagement over social media. Shawn posted the picture that Dave had taken and I read the caption.

"A really big shout out to Dave and his family for offering us their lake house for a week. Our stay so far has been nothing short than amazingly magical and I never want to leave. Also, you can't see it, but Y/n's wearing an engagement ring that I put on her finger the first day we got to the lake house! Can't wait for the rest of our adventures in life baby girl and I'm so happy that you'll be joining me on tour until school starts again." Shawn wrote. I liked it and commented heart emojis on it. I posted a picture of us that Dave had taken when we got back on land. In it, my hand is on Shawn's chest so you can see the ring. I wrote a caption.

"Thank you to Dave and his AMAZING family for offering the lake house to us for a week! We've had an amazing time so far and I never want it to end! Also thank you Shawn for being the most amazing man ever and my best friend. Thank you for slipping a beautiful ring on my finger and asking me to marry you. I've loved you from the moment that I saw you and I'll love you until I take my last breath. I think that since you stole my heart, if you'll let me, I'll take your last name." I wrote. Shawn liked it and commented a bunch of heart emojis and wrote "YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY HAVE MY LAST NAME!".

"I love you honey." Shawn said as we laid in bed that night.

"I love you too Shawn. I can't wait for the rest of our adventures together." I said. Shawn kissed the side of my head.

"Same here babe. Good night honey." Shawn said.

"Good night." I said, and with that, we drifted off into sleep. I love this man, my fiancé, so much.
