65. You Break Your Ankle

I was standing on a chair in my kitchen while I tried to hang something up on the wall. My boyfriend, Shawn Mendes, is the singer and songwriter and he's currently touring in Stockholm, Sweden. I hung the thing up, and then jumped off the chair. As soon as I hit the floor, I knew something was wrong, especially considering the fact that I was in a good amount of pain. I called my brother, Thomas, who lives close by.

"Hey." He said.

"I think I broke my ankle." I said.

"Are you at your house?" He asked.

"Yes." I said.

"Okay, stay where you are and don't move, I'm on my way." He said. I said okay and we hung up. He quickly showed up and came in.

"Should I go to the hospital?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'll take you." Thomas said and he carried me out to the car. Soon we arrived at the hospital and they did x-rays.

"Well it looks like you have a broken ankle. We'll wrap it in a cast and you're going to have to do physical therapy." The doctor said. I nodded, and before I left to go home, I realized that I should call my boyfriend.

Shawn's point of view

My phone rang while I was in my q and a. I checked and saw that it was my girlfriend Y/n. I asked my fans to hold on for a moment while I answered.

"Hey babe. You okay? I haven't heard from you in a while." I asked and said.

"Well I'm kind of - crap are you in a q and a right now?" She asked.

"Yes, but it's fine, I want to know why we've barely talked today." I said. She sighed.

"I'm at the hospital right now but I'm about to leave." She said.

"YOU'RE WHAT?" I asked.

"I'm okay, it's just a broken ankle. I have to do physical therapy but I'm fine." She said.

"Are you on crutches?" I asked.

"Yes." She said.

"Okay. I'll perform tonight and then cancel some of my concerts and fly home so I can take care of you." I said.

"NO! Shawn, don't do that. Stay and perform, it's for your job." She said.

"Babe, it would be like... let's see... ten shows." I said.

"Shawn Peter Raul Mendes, get back to your q and a. You're not cancelling any shows." She said. I sighed.

"We'll discuss this more later. Wait, how are you getting home from the hospital?" I asked.

"Thomas came to the house and took me." She said.

"How did this even happen babe?" I asked.

"I was standing on a chair trying to put something up and then I jumped off the chair and that's how I broke it." She said. I sighed.

"Okay. I'll talk to you later babe. I love you." I said.

"I love you too." She said and we hung up. I looked at my fans.

"Well, my girlfriend has a broken ankle. She was trying to hang something up and so she was standing on a chair and then jumped down and that's how she broke it. Dear God she's a klutz." I said and the fans laughed. I talked to my manager after the q and a. He hesitantly let me cancel my next ten shows so I could help my girlfriend around the house. After my show, I was on the next flight home.

Your point of view

I was asleep on the couch in the living room of my house. My brother didn't want me to be in mine and Shawn's bedroom because it's all the way upstairs. I woke up to the feeling of being moved.

"Hm?" I asked.

"Shhh babe, it's just me." Shawn said as he got up and turned on the light. I then felt bad and began to cry.

"Did you cancel any concerts?" I asked.

"Yes." He said.

"How many?" I asked. He sighed.

"Ten." Shawn said and I cried harder. He sat back down next to me. "Do you not want me here?"

"I just feel bad that you cancelled all those concerts. People paid good money to see you and it's all my fault that they're not going to see you." I said. Shawn gently held me.

"Shhh babe. This was my decision. I wanted to come home and take care of you." Shawn said. I pushed away from him a little.

"I told you not to do this Shawn! I get that you're trying to take care of me and I thank you for that, but I can do this on my own." I said.

"Really? How are you going to get upstairs to the bathroom to shower on your own? How are you going to put a garbage bag over your cast so it doesn't get wet? How are you going to do all of the things that you used to do on your own?" Shawn asked. I put my head in my hands.

"I don't know. I don't know but I feel so bad right now." I said. He rubbed my back.

"Don't honey. Please don't. I wanted to do this. Now come on, let's get you up to bed." Shawn said as he gently picked me up and carried me upstairs. After helping me get comfortable under the blankets, he went downstairs and got my crutches. We said good night to each other and fell asleep.

Shawn's point of view

I woke up in the middle of the next night to an empty bed. I looked around the upstairs for her and couldn't find her. I went downstairs and found her on the couch with her crutches next to her as she read a book.

"What are you doing up and how did you get down here?" I asked. She patted the seat next to her and I sat down next to her.

"I couldn't sleep, so I slid down the stairs on my butt and then used my crutches to get over here. Luckily the book was already on the couch. What are you doing up baby?" She asked as she began to run some of her fingers through my hair. I kissed her cheek.

"I woke up to an empty bed and wanted to know where the hell my injured girlfriend was. Did you know that you're very stubborn?" I asked. She giggled, causing my heart to flutter.

"Yes, but Shawn, you've known that I'm very stubborn since we met." She said and I smiled and nodded.

"Yup. I have." I said. She then looked sad.

"I'm sorry." She said. I frowned.

"Why are you sorry darling?" I asked.

"Because I took you away from your fans and your concerts." She said. I gently held her face in my hands.

"Baby girl, you didn't take me away from anything. I'm the one that made the decision to cancel the concerts." I said.

"I'll be honest, I love the fact that you're home, but I don't like that you canceled your concerts. And how am I supposed to get around campus? You know what I should do? I'll just drop out, yeah that's what I'll do, I'll drop out." She said.

"You're not going to dropout of school babe." I said with a chuckle.

"Yes I am." She said.

"Need I remind you who helps you pay your tuition?" I asked, and the moment that the words were out of my mouth, I knew I shouldn't have said them. When Y/n transferred to a different college, her tuition became more expensive, and I insisted on helping to pay for some of it. But that was my choice, not Y/n's. Y/n then began to cry.

"I'm sorry Shawn. I'm sorry. You don't have to pay for it. I always feel so bad that you pay for some of it. I'm not with you for your money Shawn, I swear to God, I'm with you because I love you, not because of your money." Y/n said. I helped to wipe her tears away.

"I'm sorry that I even said that baby. I know that you're not with me for my money. And do you want to know how I know that?" I asked as I began to rub her cheek.

"How?" She asked. I kissed her forehead and let my lips linger a little. It's one of my ways of saying I love you.

"Because whenever I look you in the eyes, I can see all of your love for me, and it makes me feel so good. I love hearing from people, whether they're family, friends, or fans, about the way that you look at me, even when I'm not looking. I've had so many people tell me that you look at me with so much love in your eyes that it's like you think I put the stars in the sky or something." I said. Y/n slowly stopped crying and nodded.

"That's because I'm pretty sure you did. You're tall enough anyways. I swear Shawn, you're magical or something. You're the one for me, the one that I want to spend the rest of my life with, and I can only hope and pray that you feel the same way about me. I love you Shawn." She said. I placed my lips on hers and our lips moved in sync as I got insanely amazing feelings. I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Y/n and I pulled away and rested our foreheads together.

"Baby girl, I love you too. I feel the same exact way about you. I've known that you're the one that I want to spend the rest of my life with since the moment that I laid eyes on you. You're my forever darling." I said and she smiled at me, and I smiled back.

"Did you know that sometimes when you smile at me, and I realize that I'm the one that caused that smile, I get butterflies in my tummy?" She asked.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"Mmm-hmmm." She said.

"Well I get the same way about your smiles. Wait a second, what was it that you were hanging up that you needed the chair for before you broke your ankle?" I asked as I pulled my forehead away from hers. She pointed at the wall in the kitchen.

"It's the pictures in there. It was going to be a surprise for when you got home." She said.

"Mind if I go take a look?" I asked. She shook her head.

"No, not at all." She said. I stood up and walked the few steps over to where she had pointed. She had hung up some pictures of us. One of them was from the day that we met, and others were taken throughout our relationship. I smiled at them and then at her. I walked back over to her and sat down.

"I love you. That's beautiful baby." I said. She smiled at me.

"I love you too. I'm tired honey." She said as she yawned. I chuckled.

"Well, how about we get ourselves back up to bed and we cuddle? Does that sound good darling?" I asked before kissing her cheek. She nodded.

"Yes, but only if I get all of your cuddles." She said and I threw my head back with laughter.

"You can have all of my cuddles for the rest of your life." I said as I picked her up.

"No, for the rest of our lives." She said, and I smiled at her and her words before carrying her up to bed. I laid her down.

"Here you go babe. I'll be right back, I have to get your crutches." I said as I covered her up with the blanket. I then went downstairs and got her crutches and came back up. I cuddled up to her and held her close to me.

"I'm sorry." She said. I turned on the light that was next to my side of the bed.

"Why are you apologizing Y/n?" I asked.

"Because you help to pay for my tuition when you shouldn't have to." She said.

"Oh honey. That was my choice to do that. I wanted to. I still want to, and I don't mind doing it. I have the money for it babe." I said. She nodded.

"I know, I just feel bad." She said. I shook my head.

"Don't feel bad. I don't mind doing it." I said with a small smile.

"Are you sure?" She asked. I nodded.

"I'm one hundred percent positive. Now come on, let's rest." I said. She nodded and I turned off the light.

"Good night baby boy. I love you more than you could ever imagine." She said as she put her head on my chest. I wrapped my arms around her, kissed the top of her head, and smiled.

"Good night baby girl. I love you too, more than you love me." I said.

"Oh God. We're not having this fake argument right now." She said and I laughed. We then fell asleep together. Soon, I had to leave for tour again, but I made sure that she would call me a lot and I called her a lot to check in on her, and she slowly got better, especially with physical therapy. I love this girl, and I'd do anything for her.
