63. For My Jewish Readers

A/n: Okay so I know that not all of you guys are Jewish, but I am, and this idea came to me for some reason. I feel like it's something that unfortunately could actually happen but I don't know. Anyways, without further ado, let's begin.

My fiancé is the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, and he's currently on tour. Due to the fact that it's the summer and I have no school, he asked me to join him, and I said yes. It came out during a q and a session that I'm Jewish, which is something that I'm proud of. As Shawn and I were leaving one of his q and a sessions, I heard a fan that was nearby call my name. She said something but I couldn't hear her.

"What?" I asked. When she repeated the word, I thought that she was saying kite, but it turned out that instead of using a t, she had said the word but with a k. That's a racial slur against Jews and it had never be said to me. I didn't say anything and just walked with Shawn back to his dressing room. We sat down on the couch.

"Andrew, Jake, could you guys give Y/n and I a minute?" Shawn asked.

"Sure." They said and walked out. Shawn pulled me onto his lap.

"All right, why are you quiet? What's going on my love?" Shawn asked. I shook my head.

"It's nothing." I said.

"No it's something. You were just smiling and laughing and then all of the sudden you became quiet and now you look upset. What's wrong darling?" Shawn said and asked. I sighed and told him what the fan said. His eyes went wide.

"I thought that she was just saying kite but after she repeated it, that's definitely not what she said." I told Shawn. He looked furious.

"I am so sorry that this happened babe." Shawn said.

"It's okay, it's not your fault." I said. Shawn sighed.

"I know, but still. That's just so wrong." Shawn said. I rubbed his cheek with my thumb and then kissed him. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks, and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy. I watched from the side of the show as Shawn performed, and then we were off to the next city.

"Y/n, are you going to be with Shawn for the q and a session today?" Jake, Shawn's security guard asked me. I shook my head.

"No." I said.

"Wait, what?" Shawn asked. I looked at him.

"No. I'll just stay in your dressing room." I said.

"Is it because of what happened yesterday?" Shawn asked and I nodded.

"Why? What happened yesterday?" Jake asked and we told him. He looked pissed.

"You know what? At the q and a today, I'm just going to tell them about the situation that happened, and tell the fans that it is one hundred percent unacceptable to do that. That's just so wrong." Shawn said. I nodded. He gave me a quick kiss and then went to his q and a session.

Shawn's point of view

I felt upset by what had happened to my fiancé yesterday. She didn't even want to come to the q and a today because of it. I walked into my q and a and sat down. I put my finger to my lips to get my screaming fans to quiet down. They soon went silent.

"So, as you guys may know, I usually have my fiancé Y/n with me at the q and a's but as you can see, she's not with me right now. Yesterday during a q and a, it came out that Y/n is Jewish. When her and I went to leave, and I honestly didn't hear the fan say this, but a fan called her a word that is a slur against Jews. Y/n thought the girl had said kite but when the girl said it again, Y/n realized that the girl had said the word with a k and not with a t. It is completely, one hundred million percent to call anyone, especially my fiancé, that. Y/n had been smiling and laughing but once the fan called her that, she got quiet, so I knew that something was wrong. She called her mom and told her what happened and her mom actually wanted her to fly home but Y/n promised that she was safe with me, which she is. If you're videotaping this, please share this on social media, because it is so beyond wrong to call her that just because of her religion. I'll also be doing a livestream when I get a chance and I'll basically be saying the same thing as I am right now. Because of the incident that happened yesterday, Y/n didn't want to come to this session, but I would really like her to come. Do you guys promise me that you won't say that word, or any bad word to her?" I asked and the fans said yes. "Okay, I'm going to call her and see if I can get her to come here." I said before pulling out my phone.

Your point of view

My phone rang. It was Shawn, so I answered.

"Hi." I said.

"Hi baby. I talked to the fans and they promised to be nice and they won't call you that word or any bad word. Will you please come join me?" He asked. I sighed.

"What if someone does say something?" I asked.

"Then tell me right away and I'll speak to them. I want you with me babe. I don't want you just sitting in my dressing room thinking about this." Shawn said. I nodded even though he couldn't see me.

"Okay. I'll be right there." I said.

"Okay, thank you baby." Shawn said.

"You're welcome. I love you and thank you for saying something." I said.

"Of course love, anything for you. I love you too." He said, and we hung up. I walked into the room and smiled a little at the fans as I sat down next to Shawn. He smiled at me and kissed my cheek.

"Thank you guys for letting me join." I said. They cheered and smiled. I held Shawn's hand in my lap but he repeatedly brought it to his lips and kissed it. Shawn called on a fan to ask a question.

"What's your question sweetie?" Shawn asked.

"My question is for Y/n, um, how much does it mean to you to have a guy come out here and tell a whole bunch of people that what happened was wrong and that we can't treat you, or anybody like that fan treated you? Also, I'm very sorry that that happened." The girl and asked and said. I smiled.

"Thank you. Yeah, I love how protective Shawn is of me. It means a lot that he would come out here and um," I started but had to pause. I suddenly felt tears in my eyes for two reasons: one being I was upset about what happened, the second being I felt so grateful for Shawn. I cleared my throat and started talking again. "Sorry I'm just getting a bit emotional because, I've never been called that before, so it really shook me up, but I'm also getting emotional because I'm so thankful to have Shawn who's so beyond willing to protect me from anything and I'm so grateful for that." I said as I wiped a few tears away. Shawn pulled me close to him and kissed the side of my head.

"I love you. I would do anything for you." Shawn said. I smiled at him.

"Thank you. I love you too and I would do anything for you too." I said. He smiled at me and I leaned on him. Shawn chose another person to ask a question.

"My question is for Y/n, what's your favorite thing to do with Shawn?" The fan asked.

"Oh, that's a hard one. Um, probably just be with him. We don't even have to be talking or anything, and I'm happy. It's like, I could be having a hard day and he'll walk into the room and he just lights up my world, so once I see him I just instantly feel better." I said with a smile and Shawn smiled at me. Shawn chose another person.

"Do you guys have a song? I mean, like, if a certain song comes on, you guys get up and dance to it?" The fan asked. Shawn and I smiled at each other and nodded.

"Yes, and it's actually going to be our first dance song. It's by Ed Sheeran and it's called Thinking Out Loud." Shawn said and I smiled even wider.

"How did that even become our song?" I asked Shawn. He thought for a moment and then smiled.

"I was hanging out at your house, and it was the same day that I asked you to be my girlfriend. We were listening to some random playlist that you have on your Spotify, and when that song came on, I stood up and asked you to dance with me to it, and we did. It was absolutely magical and I loved it. I love dancing to that with you." Shawn said. I smiled at him and kissed his cheek. He picked someone else.

"What's your favorite song to jam out to together?" She asked. Shawn laughed.

"Africa by Toto. Literally, every single time that comes on, even if we're in the car, she starts dancing and not just singing, but like, yelling the lyrics and it's hilarious and I love it." Shawn said. I blushed and laughed as I nodded. Shawn then picked someone else.

"My question is for Y/n, um, how long have you been a fan of Shawn's for?" She asked. I smiled.

"Oh my gosh, um, since I was a freshman in high school but I didn't really become this like, huge mega fan until my senior year of high school, and we met the summer in between my second year and third year of college, so I was a fan of his for a while before we even met." I said. Shawn smiled before picking someone else.

"At your wedding, do you guys know what the last dance of the night is going to be?" She asked. I smiled at Shawn.

"We're probably going to kick the guests off the dancefloor so it's just us and then dance to At Last by Etta James." Shawn said and I nodded. Soon the q and a came to an end. That night, after his show, Shawn did a livestream and talked about what had happened and said that that was unacceptable. I'm so glad that I have Shawn, someone who will always stand up for me, and I'm so glad that he got me to go to his q and a.
