27. "How Did You & Mom Meet?"

A/n: Get ready because this COULD BE my cheesiest imagine yet, but I love how it came out. Anyways, please enjoy this imagine. Thank you to @princessmuffin21 for the idea!Okay, let's begin!

Shawn's point of view

I sat in the living room of the house that I share with my wife, Y/n Mendes, and our three kids, Rose, Jake, and Sarah Grace, as Y/n and I cuddled on the couch. I kissed the top of her head and she looked up at me and smiled. She puckered up her lips and I smiled before putting my lips on hers. I felt sparks shoot through my whole body, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, and I felt my heart race as if it was going to beat out of my chest.

"Ewwww. That's gross." Rose said. Y/n and I pulled away as we blushed.

"Sorry Rosie. Wait, you're seventeen, you're old enough to see that." I said with a laugh.

"Yeah but it's still gross." Rose said as she walked into the room.

"Oh well. Your mother and I are in love." I said. Y/n smiled and nodded.

"It's true. We are, and we have been for quite some time now." Y/n said. I nodded and then thought for a moment.

"Twenty-two amazing years." I said. Y/n looked at me.

"Holy crap, twenty-two? Where has the time gone?" Y/n asked. I laughed.

"I don't know." I said.

"How did you and Mom meet?" Rose asked. I smiled at my wife, and she smiled at me before looking at Rose.

"It was August 16th, 2019, and I had seen your father in concert the night before, and the next day I was really tired, so I went to a nearby Dunkin Donuts shop. I got my coffee and then I turned around to leave, and there was your father, already looking at me. This is going to sound so cheesy, but I remember when I looked at your father, it was like my heart went 'oh there you are, I've been looking for you.' and that was just the beginning of everything." Y/n said with a smile. I kissed the top of her head.

"I remember when I saw her for the first time, it was definitely love at first sight. I fell for her beautiful y/e/c eyes before anything I fell for anything else. I saw her and I knew that she were the one for me, the one that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. She came up to me and asked for a picture, but I could barely hear her. I was too busy getting lost in her eyes, which I told her." I said.

"That was the first out of many times that you've made me blush." Y/n said. I chuckled.

"Yup. And then I asked your mother out on a date right then and there. She said yes and we sat down and talked for two hours before I had to leave and go see Uncle Andrew. And then we had our second date the next day." I said.

"Our second date was the same day that we kissed for the first time." Y/n said. I smiled at the memory.

"How many times do you think we've kissed?" I asked. Y/n laughed.

"Oh God. A million times maybe?" Y/n said, and I laughed and nodded.

"Sounds about right." I said.

"Rose, you'll understand all of these things when you get older and find that one person. Someday you're going to find that person and it's all going to make sense why people in the past didn't work out. When you find that person, you're not going to want to let go. I definitely don't want to let go of your father." Y/n said.

"I won't let you let go. You're with me until the end babe." I said to my wife. She smiled at me.

"There's no other way I would want it to be." She said. I smiled at her.

"I love you Y/n Mendes." I said.

"I love you too Shawn Mendes." She said.

"Mom, did you always want to take Dad's last name when you guys got married?" Rose asked. Y/n nodded.

"Oh definitely. I remember asking him if I could take his last name, and I was so nervous. For some reason I was worried that he would say no, but he very happily said yes." Y/n said. I then got an idea.

"You know what? Let's all go on a trip, the five of us. Go grab your brother and sister please." I said. Rose nodded. Y/n looked at me as she wrapped her hands around my arm.

"Where are we going my hubby?" She asked. I smiled.

"That's a surprise my wifey." I said. She groaned, causing me to laugh.

"You know how I feel about surprises!" She said.

"Yup. But you liked it when I surprised you by taking you to the lake house and proposing to you." I pointed out. Y/n smiled and nodded.

"That's true. Thank you for being my best friend for the past twenty-two years." Y/n said. I kissed her forehead.

"Thank you for being my best friend for twenty-two years too. I've loved every minute, every second of life with you." I said. Y/n kissed me again.

"Geez, every time I walk back into the room, you guys are kissing." Rose said. I pointed at her.

"Hush, young one." I said, causing my eldest child to laugh. We then all got in the car. The kids squished into the backseat, Y/n sat in the passenger seat, and I drove. I was the only one that knew where we were going. I held my wife's hand in her lap as we drove along, just like I always do.

"Dad, why do you always hold Mom's hand when you guys are in the car together?" Jake, mine and Y/n's fifteen year old son, asked.

"Because I love her." I said, causing my wife to laugh, which made my heart flutter. My kids groaned.

"Why are you guys so cheesy?" Rose asked.

"We can't help it." Y/n said, and I laughed.

"That's true." I said. We soon pulled up to the Dunkin Donuts that Y/n and I met in. Y/n smiled when she realized where we were.

"Oh my gosh. This is where we met." Y/n said. I nodded.

"Yup. Mrs. Mendes, would you like to take a trip down memory lane?" I asked. She looked at me and nodded.

"I would love to Mr. Mendes." She said. I smiled and we all got out of the car. My wife held out her hand and I interlaced her fingers with mine. After twenty-two years, her touch still sends electricity through me, yet makes me feel safe and warm all at the same time. The kids followed behind us as we walked in.

"Remember what we ordered that day?" I asked. Y/n nodded before turning back to the kids.

"What do you guys want to order?" She asked, and they told us what they wanted. We soon got up to the counter.

"Two medium iced coffees with French vanilla swirl." I said before going on to say the rest of the order. We got the order and sat down at the same table that we had been sitting in all those years ago. Y/n sat across from me, exactly where we had been sitting when we first met, and the kids sat at a different table, wanting to "get away" from our "grossness" as they put it. Y/n leaned forward and looked at me. I smiled at her, the woman that I love more than anything.

"When we were sitting here twenty-two years ago, did you ever think that you would be sitting here with me again, but married to me and with kids?" She asked. I leaned forward.

"Do you want an honest answer?" I asked. She nodded.

"Of course." She said.

"I wasn't a hundred percent sure that I would, but I sure as hell hoped so." I said. Y/n smiled at me and put her hand to my cheek.

"You make me so happy Shawn." She said. I took her hand and kissed it before playing with her wedding ring that I put on her eighteen years ago.

"Well that's good because you make me so happy too." I said. She looked at her wedding ring and then back at me as I held both of her hands in mine.

"I'm so in love with you that it's insane. You really are the love of my life and I never want to live without you." She said.

"Well baby, you're the love of my life and I never want to live without you either. I love the fact that yes we've had our hard times, but we got through them, and we got through them together. I'm so in love with you honey." I said.

"How is it that after twenty-two amazing years, you're still able to make me feel the same way that you did the first day that we met and the first time we kissed and held hands? You're magical aren't you?" Y/n asked, and I laughed.

"Well I am a Hogwarts graduate, as you may know. I even had it in my Twitter bio a very long time ago." I said, causing my wife to laugh. My phone then dinged, and so did my wife's.

"You guy should totally check that." Jake said. I gave him a funny look before checking it. Jake had taken a picture of us. Y/n and I smiled at him.

"Thank you for that Jakey boy." Y/n said.

"You're welcome." He said.

"Mind if I post that on Instagram?" I asked. He shook his head.

"No. Go ahead." He said. I thanked him before turning back to my wife. I would post the photo later.

"Wait, this photo feels like deja vu. Didn't your security guard Jake take a similar picture of us when we sat here for the first time?" Y/n asked.

"Oh yeah! I remember that I later on asked him why he did that, and he said that it was because he thought that something special would happen between us." I said. Y/n smiled.

"We should find that picture." She said. I looked waaay back on my camera roll and found it.

"Found it!" I said.

"Found what?" Sarah Grace asked. I showed them the picture.

"Look familiar?" I asked. Jake's eyes widened.

"Oh my gosh, was that your first picture together?" He asked. I shook my head.

"Second. Uncle Jake took this one. He said that it was because he thought that something special would happen between your mom and I, which obviously happened. Wait a second, today is the anniversary of the day we met. Oh my gosh, babe, we met twenty-two years ago today." I said. The kids smiled at us as we smiled at each other. I then used an app called PicCollage to make it so one photo was above the other one, and I posted it on Instagram. My wife's phone dinged, she always get notifications when I post. She read the caption out loud as she smiled.

"Decided to take a trip down memory lane with my wife and kids today. Twenty-two years ago today, Y/n and I met at a Dunkin Donuts in Boston, and immediately fell in love. Today my oldest daughter, Rose, asked how us we met, so we told her, and then came back to the place where it all began. It's crazy to think how much my life has changed in the past twenty-two years, but I love it. I'm with the woman of my dreams, who I fall for all over again every single day, and I know that she feels the same way about me, and I have three amazing kids with her. I love you so much Y/n Mendes, and that will never change. Thank you for being my best friend and my everything for the past twenty-two amazing years. Also, for the top photo, photo credit goes to my security guard Jake, and for the bottom photo, photo credit goes to my son Jake. I love you Y/n, Rose, Jake, and Sarah Grace, more than you will ever know." Y/n read.

"I feel like the caption is fitting to how I feel. I really do love you guys." I said. My family smiled back at me.

"We love you too Daddy." Sarah Grace, my youngest child said. I smiled.

"You, my dear Sarah Grace, need to stop getting older. All three of you do. I feel old." I said.

"That's because you are old dad." Rose said. My eyes widened. "I'm kidding! I love you." She said. I laughed.

"I love you too." I said. We all stayed for a little bit longer before heading home. When we got into bed that night, my wife just stared at me for a moment with a loving look on her face. I pulled her closer to me. "What? Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked. She giggled, causing my heart to flutter.

"You're just so damn handsome and amazing. How are you all mine? Oh my gosh I'm so lucky." She said, causing me to laugh.

"Well you're so damn beautiful. And you think you're lucky? Babe, I hit the jackpot when you said yes to being my girlfriend and then I hit the jackpot again when you said yes to being my wife. I'm the luckiest man in the world." I said. Y/n kissed me, and I got those same amazing feelings all over again, and I loved it. Soon, we were out of breath and needed to pull away. "I want more kisses from you. You're like a drug and I'm hooked on you." I said. Y/n smiled.

"I feel the same way about you babe, now get those lips over here." She said. I smiled and we kissed some more. As we kissed, I thought of so many of our memories together, even the bad ones, like our first fight as a married couple, but I mostly thought of the good ones, like our wedding day, and when she joined me on tour while we were engaged. We soon pulled away again and I realized that she looked tired.

"You look tired. Let's stop making out - for now, we'll continue later - and go to sleep." I said. She smiled and nodded as I turned off the light. I held her close to me and kissed the top of her head.

"I love you Shawn. Good night." She said.

"I love you too Y/n. Good night." I said. I love this woman, and I'll never forget how we met.
