184. Scrapbook

My husband is the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, and next month him and I will be celebrating our two year anniversary. We've been together for almost seven years, and we have a two month old daughter, Rose Lucille Mendes, together. She already has her father wrapped around her little fingers, but he loves it, and he loves her more than anything.

"Rosie, what should I get Daddy for our two year wedding anniversary?" I asked her as I held her in my arms while I sat on the couch. She just smiled at me. Soon, the door swung open and Shawn walked in. I smiled at him.

"There's my two favorite girls. How were you guys today?" He asked as he sat down next to me on the couch.

"We were good. We napped a lot." I said with a giggle and Shawn smiled.

"Can I hold her please?" He asked. I nodded and gently handed her to him. He smiled at her and rubbed her cheek.

"I was just asking her what I should get her Daddy for our two year wedding anniversary." I said. Shawn smiled at me.

"Did she answer?" He asked. I giggled and shook my head.

"No. Can I have a kiss please?" I asked. He nodded and put his lips on mine. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks. Shawn and I pulled away and smiled at each other.

"Magical, per usual." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Oh! I know what I can do for our two year anniversary." I said.

"Mrs. Mendes, you don't have to get me anything." He said. I gave him a look.

"Okay Mr. Mendes, let me ask you something: are you getting me something?" I asked. He smiled and nodded.

"Yeah." He said.

"See? It would only be fair for me to get you something if you're going to get me something." I pointed out. He nodded.

"Okay darling. Just don't spend as much money as you did last year please." He said. I nodded and looked at the watch that he was wearing. It was what I got for him last year. We got into a fight about it when he found out that I had paid a little over a thousand dollars for it, but he still wears it all of the time - he was wearing it the day that Rose was born.

"No, I think that I'm going to make you something. Now I just need to figure where I can do it. I can't do it in your office because then you'll see it, and I can't do it in our room or Rose's room. I'll do it in the guest bedroom I guess." I said. Shawn nodded.

"So what are you making for me, my love?" Shawn asked with a smirk.

"No! I'm not going to tell you! I'll be right back." I said as I stood up and grabbed my phone. Shawn nodded.

"Okay darling." He said. I went upstairs into mine and Shawn's bedroom and shut the door and called my mom.

"Hi sweetie." She said.

"Hi mom. How are you?" I asked.

"I'm good, how are you?" She asked.

"I'm good. I was thinking, and I want to make Shawn a scrapbook for our two year wedding anniversary next month. Should I start by printing out the pictures first, and then go to a craft store and get an empty scrapbook and stuff for it, or should I get the scrapbook first?" I asked. My mom thought for a moment.

"Um, I think that you should do the pictures first because then you'll know how big you want the scrapbook to be. How are you going to hide it from Shawn?" She asked.

"I'm thinking of either working on it in the guest bedroom, or, if it's okay, doing it at your house." I said.

"That's fine if you want to do it over here. I think that if you do it over here, the chances of him seeing it are slimmer. Plus, I could watch Rose while you work on it. Do you know what pictures you want to use?" She asked. I thought for a moment.

"Um, well definitely our first picture together. And I also definitely want the picture of our first kiss as husband and wife, and pictures with Rose. I can put pictures from when we were dating, and from when we were engaged, and then from our wedding and since then. He really likes the photo that was taken a few months after we got married at the Heart Ball when I was wearing that red dress, so I'll put that in there. I'll send an email to Andrew, Jake, Josiah, and maybe Brian to ask if they have any cute photos of him and I that they could send me." I said.

"Well it sounds like you've got it all under control. Do you want me to watch Rose while you work on this?" She asked.

"Well if Shawn's home then I know that he wouldn't mind watching her, but if for some reason he isn't going to be home, then I'll bring her with me to your house. Thank you so much for this mom." I said.

"You're welcome honey. I'll talk to you later. Love you." She said.

"Okay, love you too." I said, and we hung up. I then sent an email to Andrew, Jake, Josiah (obviously), Brian, and Shawn's parents and sister, asking them to send me any cute pictures of Shawn and I that they had. I told them that it's for a present for Shawn for our anniversary, so please don't tell him. I then went back downstairs, where Shawn was still sitting on the couch, smiling at Rose. He then looked up at me.

"Hey honey. That was a long conversation with your mom." He said as I sat down next to him and put my head on his shoulder.

"Yeah. Are you going to be home for the next month, or are you going to have things to go to?" I asked.

"I should be home. Why?" He asked.

"Because I'm going to work on your present at my mom's house so you can't see it, and she said that she could watch Rose, but I told her that you love watching Rose, so if you're home, I'm guessing that you'll want to watch her." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah, I love watching my little girl. I swear babe, she's a miniature version of you." Shawn said as he smiled at his daughter, in awe of her. I smiled.

"Well she has your nose." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Yes, but everything else is you. She has your hair, and your eyes and everything but the nose." Shawn said. I nodded my head against his shoulder.

"She's going to be a real heartbreaker when she gets older." I said. Shawn looked at me with wide eyes.

"She's not allowed to date until she's thirty, maybe even forty." Shawn said. I rolled my eyes.

"Oh gosh." I said. The next day, Shawn watched Rose while I went to my mom's house.

"So these are the pictures that you definitely want?" She asked. I nodded. In front of me were mine and Shawn's first picture together, a picture from the day that we started dating, a picture of him down on one knee when he proposed to me at the sheep pasture after he got home from the first leg of his tour, a picture of our first kiss together as husband and wife, and our first picture as a family. His dad had taken that photo - my head was resting on Shawn's shoulder as he held Rose. It was less than an hour after I had given birth to her.

"Yeah. These are the ones that I must have in here. Obviously our first picture together is going to be the first picture. Oh, Josiah just emailed me some pictures." I said. I opened up the email and smiled at the photos and then showed them to my mom.

"Oh I love them." She said. I nodded. I then scrolled back in the camera roll in my phone to find old pictures from when Shawn and I were dating. I found the picture of him holding me bridal style outside of our house - we had just bought it. I also found one where we were in our bathroom, my legs wrapped around his waist as he kissed my cheek. I found the only picture that we have of him and I ice skating. I found one (out of many) of him and I doing face masks, and I found plenty more. After a couple of days, I had all of the photos that I wanted.

"Babe, I'll be back." I said to Shawn as I grabbed my purse. Shawn frowned. Rose was in her crib, napping.

"Wait, baby, we finally have some alone time with you since Rose is napping. Where are you going?" He asked. I sat down next to him.

"I have to go get stuff for your present and then I'm going to my mom's house so I can work on it." I said. Shawn put one of his hands to my cheek and stroked it with his thumb. He shook his head.

"No. Please don't leave." He said. I frowned.

"Baby boy, I'll be back, I just have to go to the store and then I have to go to my mom's." I said.

"How long would all of this take you? Like, when would you be home by?" He asked. I thought for a moment before shrugging.

"It would probably be a few hours." I said. Shawn shook his head.

"My love, you've been spending a lot of time at your mom's house. Please just stay home so we can spend time together." He said. I wrapped my fingers around his wrist and kissed the palm of his hand before looking at him again. His eyes were almost pleading with me.

"Shawny, I want to make sure that your present is finished on time and I want it to be perfect for you." I said. He kissed my forehead, and the spot that he had kissed was left feeling tingly, even after his lips were no longer there. He then rested his forehead against mine.

"Please honey. I've missed spending time with my wife. It's going to be perfect, not for how whatever it is looks or anything, but because you made it. And so what if it's not done on time? Who cares?" Shawn asked.

"I do. I care. You're my husband and I want it to be good enough for you." I said. Shawn placed a gentle and loving kiss on my lips.

"Oh darling, I know that it's going to be perfect for me. As long as I have you and Rose, I'm the happiest man alive. Just stay home and spend time with me please, even if we're just laying in bed napping together." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Okay. I'll call my mom and let her know." I said. Shawn smiled.

"Thank you honey. I'm going to head upstairs to the bedroom so we can nap while you call your mom." Shawn said. I nodded and called my mom.

"Hi sweetie." She said.

"Hi, I won't be working on the scrapbook today." I said.

"What? Why?" She asked. I told her about my conversation with Shawn. "Okay. Tomorrow?"

"Yeah. I'm going to go lay down with him. Love you." I said.

"Love you too honey." She said. We hung up and I went upstairs. Shawn was sitting up in bed. He made grabby hands at me and I giggled.

"Don't worry handsome, I'm coming." I said. He smiled as I got into bed with him. He pulled me close to him and kissed my cheek.

"I feel like I haven't seen you in a couple of days. I see you in the morning and I see you at dinner, but that's it." Shawn said. I felt bad.

"I'm sorry honey. I just, you're my husband and my best friend, and I want this to be absolutely perfect for you." I said as I leaned on him. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the side of my head.

"I know that you like things to be perfect, but like I said downstairs, as long as I have you and Rose, I'm happy." Shawn said. I closed my eyes, relaxed into my husband's touch and warm embrace, and nodded.

"Okay. I have a question for you hubby." I said.

"What is it wifey?" Shawn asked.

"What's your favorite picture of us?" I asked.

"Oh God that's a hard question. Well, from when we were dating, I love the picture of us hugging where it's kind of blurry. I think that I was wearing a red shirt and you were wearing a black shirt. I love the picture of me proposing to you. I also love the picture of our first kiss as husband and wife, and I love our first picture as a family. Why?" Shawn asked. I smiled, knowing that I had all of those photos already printed out.

"I was just wondering. Want to nap?" I asked.

"Yeah. Come here darling." Shawn said as we laid down and cuddled up to each other. Soon, I had finished the scrapbook. The cover of it said "Our Love Story" and the first page says "The Greatest Love Story Ever Told!" and I hope that Shawn likes it.

I woke up on the morning of mine and Shawn's two year anniversary to find Shawn already smiling at me. His smile was huge and I smiled back as I brought my hand to his cheek and rubbed it with my thumb.

"Happy two year anniversary handsome." I said.

"Happy two year anniversary gorgeous." He said and I blushed as I snuggled closer to him but looked up at him.

"I feel like I can't stop smiling when I'm with you." I said with a giggle. I tried to be quiet since Rose was still sleeping. Shawn chuckled.

"I know honey, I feel the same way about you." He said. I continued to rub his cheek with my thumb.

"Thank you Shawn." I said. He gave me a confused look.

"What are you thanking me for?" He asked.

"Everything. For being my best friend, for asking me to be your girlfriend, for asking me to be your wife, for helping to make me a mother, for making me happier than I've ever been in my whole life, just, everything." I said. Shawn kissed my forehead.

"You're welcome my love, and thank you too - for everything." He said.

"Should we get up and exchange presents?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yeah. Rose is still sleeping though. Should we make breakfast first and then when she's awake we can do presents?" He asked. I thought for a moment.

"Sure." I said. We then went downstairs and made breakfast. I kept bouncing my foot as I sat on our kitchen counter.

"You okay Mrs. Mendes? You keep bouncing your foot." Shawn asked and said.

"I just really want to give you your present." I said. Shawn chuckled.

"Well I'm almost done with the pancakes babe, and then before we eat, we'll exchange gifts, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded and then heard a cry.

"I got her." I said.

"Okay." Shawn said as he picked me up and took me off the counter. I went upstairs and picked up Rose.

"Hi sweet Rosie girl. Let's go downstairs and see Daddy." I said as I carried her downstairs. I walked into the kitchen and Shawn smiled at us.

"There's my two favorite girls." Shawn said and I smiled.

"Well you're our favorite guy." I said and Shawn's smile widened.

"Is she hungry?" Shawn asked.

"She seems pretty calm right now, so I think that she's fine. Are you almost done with the pancakes?" I asked. Shawn chuckled and nodded.

"Yeah, I'm just finishing this one now." Shawn said and I nodded.

"Okay. I'll sit on the couch with her for now if that's okay?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Of course it is. I'll be right there, I just have to grab your present." Shawn said. I nodded and went to sit down with Rose. I smiled at mine and Shawn's daughter and she smiled at me.

"You're so precious. Daddy and I love you so much honey. More than you'll ever know." I said. I hadn't even realized that Shawn had gone upstairs, but I saw him walk into the living room.

"I have your present babe." Shawn said as he held a box in his hands. I smiled.

"Okay. Will you hold her while I grab your present?" I asked. He nodded.

"Sure." He said as he took Rose. I went upstairs and grabbed the box. Due to how many pictures there were, the scrapbook was big. I grabbed it and then went back downstairs. Shawn's eyes widened when he saw the box.

"What?" I asked.

"That's a big box." He said and I giggled.

"Yup. Can I open my present first since I know that my gift to you is going to take a little bit?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah. Let me just put Rosie in her high chair." Shawn said. He put her in her high chair - she was three months old by now - and then he came back to sit with me, and he handed me my present. I opened it up and gasped. It was a beautiful necklace.

"Oh my gosh Shawn, it's beautiful." I said as I took it out of the box.

"It's an Elisa Pendant necklace in Rose Gold." Shawn said. I smiled at him.

"I love it. Will you put it on me please?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Of course darling. Here, turn around." Shawn said. I did as told and he put the necklace on me and then kissed my shoulder. "There you go babe."

"Thank you. How many necklaces do you think you've gotten me over the years?" I asked with a giggle as I turned back around. Shawn chuckled.

"A lot. But you're worth it darling. You're worth everything." He said. I gave him a sweet, gentle, and loving kiss.

"Okay, time for your present. Are you ready to see what I've been working on for the past month?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yup." He said with a smile. I handed him the box.

"Here you go babe." I said. I watched, slightly nervous, as he opened the box. The nerves went away when his eyes widened and so did his smile. He took the scrapbook out of the box and looked at it.

"Oh my gosh. You made me a scrapbook?" He asked as he looked at me. I nodded.

"Yeah. Open it up babe, look at what I put inside." I said. He chuckled at my enthusiasm and opened it up.

"Our first picture together!" He said. I smiled and nodded as I watched him slowly flip through the pages. He then looked at me. "Is this why you asked me about my favorite picture of us?"

"Yes, and I was very glad when you said those pictures because I already had those printed out." I said and Shawn smiled as he went back to looking at the scrapbook. He got to the last page, which had our most recent photo together, taken just a few days ago. It was a selfie of Shawn holding Rose as I leaned on him. Shawn closed the scrapbook, looked at it for a moment, and then smiled at me.

"I love it so much babe. It's perfect. I love our love story." He said as he pulled me closer to him.

"I'm so glad that you like it babe. I remembered how much you loved the picture of us from the Heart Ball so I knew that I had to put that one in there. I actually emailed Andrew, Jake, Josiah, Brian, your parents, and your sister to ask them to send me their favorite pictures of you and I and my mom helped me figure out the layout." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek.

"It's beautiful and I love it. I love you so much honey. I adore you. You're the best wife ever." Shawn said and I giggled as he repeatedly kissed my cheek.

"I love you so much too and I adore you too. You're the best husband ever." I said as he stopped kissing my cheek. He smiled at me.

"I loved the picture from the arcade when you and were engaged and we were riding those motorcycles and racing each other." Shawn said. I nodded and opened up the scrapbook so I could find the picture.

"This one?" I asked as I pointed at a picture where him and I were on bikes at an arcade and although we were racing each other, we were looking at each other and Shawn must have said something funny because I was laughing. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah. The back of your shirt says Y/l/n and mine says Mendes. I think that I had said something to you about the fact that your last name was going to change to Mendes." Shawn said and I nodded.

"Yup. So you really love it?" I asked as I looked at him. He nodded.

"Of course I do darling. It's wonderful. We have to make sure that we keep it in a safe place." Shawn said and I nodded. Later on, him and I both made posts on Instagram about our anniversary. We then cuddled on the couch as Shawn held Rose.

"Happy anniversary Mr. Mendes." I said as I rested my head on his shoulder.

"Happy anniversary Mrs. Mendes." He said. I love Shawn so much, and I'm so glad that he liked the scrapbook.
