155. You Pick His Tie For The Wedding
My fiancé is the singer and songwriter, Shawn Mendes. Last week I picked out my wedding dress and paid for it. I obviously need to go for fittings as our wedding gets closer, especially since the people at Kleinfelds, where I got the dress are doing alterations to it, but I'm very excited about it. I laid on the couch with Shawn, my head resting on his chest as he traced random shapes on my back.
"Shawn?" I asked. He kissed the top of my head.
"Yes my love?" Shawn asked.
"What if you don't like the wedding dress that I picked?" I asked. Shawn took his finger and put it underneath my chin so I was looking at his gorgeously handsome face. I can't believe that I get to marry this man.
"Darling, you could wear something with a million holes in it, and you would still look absolutely gorgeous. You're going to look drop dead gorgeous no matter what, and I know that I'm going to love the dress." Shawn said. I nodded.
"But what if you don't?" I asked. Shawn kissed my forehead.
"Honey, I promise you that I will. And you like the dress, right?" Shawn said and asked. I nodded and smiled.
"I love it. When I put it on, I kept saying 'Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh.' because I just knew that it was the one. I would show you a picture of me in it, but that's bad luck, plus they're doing stuff to it." I said.
"No, I don't want to see you in it until I see you walk down the aisle. What do you mean they're doing stuff to it?" Shawn asked. I sat up a little and so did he, but he continued to rub my back.
"Well, the front of it, if I had left it the way it was, it would have showed a bit of cleavage." I said. Shawn's eyes widened. I nodded, knowing what he was thinking.
"How much cleavage?" He asked.
"Too much. I had a feeling that you would have liked me leaving it like that, but only if you would be the one seeing me in it, but our loved ones are going to be seeing me in it too, and I don't want our loved ones seeing that much cleavage, so they're fixing it so it doesn't show as much of my boobs." I said. Shawn nodded and pulled me closer to him.
"Good. I'm about to be your husband, and only I can see that much cleavage on you." He said. I giggled and nodded and then put my head on his shoulder.
"I just really want you to like the dress. I think you will." I said. Shawn nodded.
"I will honey, I promise. My mom was there when you picked out the dress, would you feel better if you called her and asked her what she thinks I'll think about it?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said. I leaned forward, grabbed my phone, and called Karen.
"Hi Y/n! How are you darling?" She asked.
"I'm good. I have you on speaker and I'm with Shawn. I'm just so nervous that he won't like the wedding dress that I picked, and he's trying to reassure me that he will like it, but he said that maybe I should call you about this. Do you think that he'll like the dress? Please pretend that he's not sitting next to me." I asked and said with a giggle.
"Oh honey, he's going to love it. Both your mom and I were crying when we saw you in it for the first time. Y/n, you looked like a princess. I know that I can't say much because Shawn is listening to this, but I think that he's really going to love the pattern on it." Karen said. I nodded, even though she couldn't see me.
"Okay. Thank you. You don't think that I looked like a cotton ball or anything, do you?" I asked.
"No of course not! You looked like a princess! You love the dress, right?" She asked.
"Oh my gosh as soon as I put it on, I knew that it was the one that I wanted to wear, and you saw my face when Randy put the veil on me." I said.
"Yes. It was like it was hitting you that you're really getting married. I promise you, Shawn will love the dress." Karen said.
"Okay, thank you." I said.
"You're welcome." She said.
"Bye Mum, we love you!" Shawn said.
"I love you guys too. Bye!" She said, and we hung up.
"Feel better darling?" Shawn asked and I nodded.
"A bit. Oh, um, when you pick out your suit, don't pick out the tie please." I said. Shawn gave me a confused look.
"Why not?" He asked. I smirked.
"I've got it covered." I said. He shook his head.
"No baby, it's fine, I can cover it." He said. I shook my head.
"Nope. My love, my handsome man, I know the most perfect tie for you, and for our wedding. I already looked at it and it's not even twenty dollars. Please honey?" I asked. Shawn chewed at his bottom lip as he thought for a moment.
"Okay. I just don't like it when you spend money on me." Shawn said. I kissed his jaw.
"Honey, you spoil me and spend money on me. Let me do it for you." I said. He nodded and then kissed my lips. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks on the Fourth of July. We soon pulled away and smiled at each other. He leaned his forehead against mine.
"I love you so much honey. You're so beyond precious to me." Shawn said and I smiled.
"I love you so much too and you're so beyond precious to me too." I said. Later on, Shawn had to go out and do something, so I called his dad, my soon to be father in law, Manny Mendes.
"Hi Y/n, how are you?" He asked.
"I'm good, how are you?" I asked.
"I'm good. What can I do for you?" He asked.
"So I want to pick out Shawn's tie for our wedding day, and he already said that it's okay if he does that. I think that I know the perfect tie for him. If I text you the link to the tie, will you look at and tell me what you think Shawn will think about it please?" I asked.
"Of course." He said.
"Okay, I'll do that right now." I said. I put the phone on speaker, copied and pasted the link, and sent it to Manny.
"I think that I just got it. Oh he's going to love it Y/n." Manny said.
"Okay, good. And I think that I want to get him one of those tie clips but get it custom engraved with something. Should I get our wedding date engraved on it, or his initials?" I asked. There was a pause.
"I think that you should get our wedding date engraved on it. May twenty-third, 2024, right?" Manny asked. I nodded even though he couldn't see me.
"Yup. And please don't tell Shawn about this. All he knows is that I'm getting him a tie." I said.
"Okay, yeah I think that the tie and clip will be perfect, and then on yours and Shawn's wedding day I can do his tie for the last time. I won't tell him, I promise." Manny said. I smiled.
"Thank you. I can't wait to marry Shawn. I seriously will never be able to thank you and Karen enough for raising the man of my dreams. Shawn's my best friend, my soulmate, my everything. He knows me better than anyone in this world, and I know him better than anyone in this world, he told me that." I said.
"Well Karen and I can't thank you enough for making our son so happy. I mean, we were just talking about it the other day, and we've seen him pretty happy, but we've never seen him as happy as he is when he's with you." Manny said and I smiled.
"He makes me happier than I've ever been in my whole life. Thank you for the advice on the tie and the clip. I'll look up tie clips and get it." I said.
"Okay. Bye Y/n." He said.
"Bye." I said, and we hung up. I then found the perfect tie clip, customized and purchased it, and then bought the tie that I wanted to get him. A little bit later, Shawn came home and I gave him a hug and a kiss.
"Hi there darling." Shawn said as we sat down.
"Hi. I talked to your Dad today." I said.
"Oh really?" Shawn asked as he pulled me nice and close to him and rested his head on the side of my face.
"Yup." I said.
"What did you guys talk about babe?" Shawn asked as he began to play with the beautiful engagement ring that he put on my finger.
"I asked him for his opinion the tie that I want to get you, and he said that you're going to love it and we talked about something else, but that's a secret." I said. Shawn groaned.
"Ugh. How long do I have to wait until I find out?" Shawn asked. I giggled.
"Our wedding day." I said. He groaned again, causing me to laugh.
"You're killing me here babe." He said as we looked at each other.
"Yes but you love me." I said. He smiled and nodded.
"Yes I do. If I didn't I wouldn't have put a ring on your finger." He said and I smiled.
"I probably won't be the one to give you the tie and the other thing because it will be on our wedding day, and we're not supposed to see each other before the wedding." I said. Shawn nodded and kissed my cheek.
"Okay baby." He said.
Your wedding day
Shawn's tie and tie clip came in perfectly. His tie clip is silver and engraved with our wedding date on it. I smiled as I looked at it, hoping that he would like it. I got a piece of paper and a pen, and wrote on it.
"Shawn, my soon to be husband,
Here's the tie that I got for you - I really hope that you like it. The thing that I got you that I had to keep a secret is this tie clip. It's custom engraved with today's date - our wedding day. I hope that you like it. I picked this tie because of the pattern on my dress which you will soon see, but I don't want to spoil too much about my dress. You'll see it soon enough! Another reason why I picked this tie is because we have so many floral things at our wedding. It's going to take everything in me not to run down the aisle to you and I'm probably going to want to cut off our officiator just so I can say I do, but I won't. I love you so much my love. Text me when you get the tie and clip please.
Love, your soon to be wife." I wrote. I then turned to Aaliyah. She smiled at me. She looked beautiful in her blue bridesmaids dress. I was already in my wedding dress.
"Is that for Shawn?" She asked, pointing at the box which held the tie and the clip, and the letter. I nodded.
"Yup. It's bad look for me to see him before the wedding, would you mind giving this to him please?" I asked. She nodded.
"Sure." She said as she took the things.
"Thank you. Also, could you videotape his reaction please?" I asked. She nodded.
"Sure." She said, and then she left to go to where Shawn was getting ready. I hope that he likes it.
Shawn's point of view
I was getting into my suit when there was a knock at the door.
"I got it." Brian Craigen, my best man said. He opened the door and it was my sister, Aaliyah.
"Hi chica. Everything okay?" I asked. She nodded and then got out her phone.
"Yes. Hold on, I've been instructed by Y/n to videotape your reaction." She said and I laughed. She then started videotaping and she handed me a note and a box. I read the letter and smiled. I then opened up the box, and saw the tie. My eyes widened and I smiled.
"Oh my gosh, I love the tie and the clip. This is beautiful." I said. I then looked at Aaliyah's phone since she was videotaping me, and I knew that Y/n was going to be seeing the video. "Thank you so freaking much for this darling. I love it. Dad, do you want to do my tie for the last time?" I asked. My dad came over and nodded.
"Yup. She sent me a link to the tie before she bought it and asked me if I thought that you would like it." My dad said. I smiled as he did my tie.
"Well I love it. Aaliyah, is she in her dress?" I asked my sister. Aaliyah was still videotaping.
"Yup." She said. My smile widened.
"Does she look beautiful? Actually don't answer that, I know her, and she's going to look gorgeous. Does this mean that there's a floral pattern on her dress? Are you allowed to answer that question?" I asked.
"Nope, I can't tell you anything, but you're right, she does look beautiful." Aaliyah said as my did put the clip on my tie. I smiled.
"Oh my gosh I can't wait. Y/n, I love you honey. Thank you so much for the tie and the clip, I love them. I can't wait to see you, my darling, precious, beautiful girl." I said. Aaliyah then ended the video and left.
Your point of view
Happy tears formed in my eyes as I watched the video that Aaliyah had taken of Shawn and I smiled.
"He looks so handsome and happy. Oh my gosh. I can't wait." I said.
"Don't cry, you'll ruin the makeup!" The makeup artist said.
"Sorry!" I said as I handed the phone to Aaliyah. I texted Shawn.
Me: Oh my gosh you look so handsome babe. I'm so glad that you like the tie and clip. I love you.
Shawny baby: Thank you honey. I love it and I love YOU!
Me: I have to finish getting ready, but I'll see you in a little bit.
Shawny baby: Okay darling.
I finished getting ready, and soon it was time for me to walk down the aisle.
Shawn's point of view
I stood at the altar, and suddenly music started to play. It was the music that Y/n and I had picked for her to walk down the aisle to. When I saw her, tears formed in my eyes as my jaw dropped. Holy crap she looked gorgeous. Her dress has flowers on it - that must have been what she meant in the note. Her y/h/c flowed down, and she didn't have too much makeup on - she looked absolutely stunning. I wiped some tears away as her and I locked eyes and smiled at each other. She soon got to me, gave her dad a kiss on the cheek, he shook my hand and told me to take care of her, she handed her bouquet to her maid of honor, Grace, who helped to straighten out her dress, and then we held hands as the officiator began to speak.
"Wow." I mouthed and she blushed. Soon we were married, and we walked back down the aisle as we held hands, now as husband and wife.
"Oh my gosh we're married Shawn." She said with a smile. I nodded and I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face even if I wanted to.
"Come here, my dad found a room that we can go to so we can have a private moment before the reception." I said.
"Okay." She said, and we went to the private area. I smiled at her and pulled her in for a hug.
"Oh my gosh honey we're married. I love you so much." I said. She looked up at me and smiled. Holy crap, her smile could cure everything bad in the world.
"I know! I love you so much too. Do you like the dress?" She asked as she took a step back. I nodded and smiled as I eyed her up and down.
"Holy crap darling, you look absolutely stunning, beautiful, gorgeous, every nice word that I can think of. Is this what you meant in the note when you mentioned the pattern on your dress and floral things?" I asked. She smiled and nodded.
"Yup. You don't think that I look like a cotton ball, do you?" She asked. I shook my head like crazy and then pulled her in for another hug.
"Nope, not at all. You look wonderful darling." I said. She smiled at me.
"Thank you. You look very handsome babe." She said.
"Thank you." I said. I rubbed her back a little as I enjoy this quiet moment that we were having - our first quiet moment as husband and wife. Her smile then widened.
"I can feel your wedding ring on my back." She said.
"Do you like that feeling?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yeah. I put that ring on you." She said. I chuckled and nodded.
"Yup, and I put your ring on you." I said and she nodded. There was a knock at the door and I opened it to see my dad.
"They're ready to introduce you guys." He said. We nodded. I looked at Y/n.
"You ready Mrs. Mendes?" I asked and her smile widened.
"Yes I am Mr. Mendes." She said. My dad went ahead of us and my newly wedded wife squeezed my hand as she heard the DJ speak.
"Ladies and gentleman, introducing for the first time: Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Mendes!" The DJ said, and when Y/n and I walked into where our reception was being held, I raised her hand up and she giggled. When we had our first dance, which was to Thinking Out Loud which Ed Sheeran sang on stage, I kissed her cheek.
"I love you so much honey. I'm going to keep this tie and this clip forever." I said and she smiled at me.
"I love you too. I'm glad that you like the tie and the clip, and my dress so much." She said and I smiled again. I love Y/n Mendes so much and I'm so grateful for her love and her gifts.
