I have been dating the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes for eight months. I was spending some time with him at his condo in Toronto when he suddenly got a call from his manager, Andrew Gertler.

"I'll be right back." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Okay." I said. He stepped out of the room, and when he came back, he sat down next to me and then pulled me onto his lap.

"How would you feel about going to an awards show with me next week?" He asked. My eyes widened.

"Wait, are you serious?" I asked as Shawn began to rub my back. He nodded.

"Yup. You don't have to if you don't want to, but it would be our first red carpet debut as a couple." Shawn said. I chewed at my bottom lip for a moment as I thought.

"Would I be able to pick out what I wear?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yup. I don't know what you're going to wear, but you'll look gorgeous." Shawn said.

"Thank you." I said.

"You're welcome darling." Shawn said.

"Okay, I'll go." I said. Shawn's smile widened as he pulled me closer.

"Oh that makes me so happy honey." Shawn said as he began to repeatedly kiss my cheek.

The next week, Shawn and I got ready in separate rooms. I wore a long red dress that showed a bit of cleavage. The stylists put my hair up in a ponytail, and they put on some eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow on me. I smiled at how I looked in the mirror, and for the first time in a while, I liked how I looked. I put on red heels and stepped out. Shawn was wearing a gray suit, and he looked so beyond handsome. I smiled at him.

"Shawn? How do I look?" I asked. He turned to me and smiled.

"Absolutely gorgeous. Oh my gosh you look stunning. I'm the luckiest man in the world." Shawn said and I blushed. He pulled me in for a hug.

"Thank you so much babe. You look so handsome. I'm the luckiest girl in the world." I said. He smiled and kissed my cheek. We soon headed out to the car and Shawn helped me in. He took my hand and interlaced our fingers together. As our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. I felt nervous and I began to bounce my leg. Shawn squeezed my hand and I looked into his comforting caramel eyes.

"Darling, if you want to leave at any point, let me know and we'll leave as soon as we can, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Okay." I said. Shawn then gave me tips on how to pose and things like that.

"I'll stick by your side the whole time, I won't leave you, I promise." Shawn said. I smiled and nodded.

"Okay. Thank you." I said. He kissed my cheek. We soon arrived at the place where the award show was being held.

"Ready?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"As ready as I'll ever be." I said.

"Deep breath babe." Shawn said and I did as told. He watched me, and once he was satisfied with the three deep breaths that I had taken, he stepped out and held his hand out for me to take. I stepped out and kept my eyes on him as I smiled. He smiled back, and his smile gave me butterflies. I leaned over to whisper in his ear.

"So you won't leave my side?" I asked.

"Nope, not for a single second, unless you have to go to the bathroom." Shawn said. I giggled and nodded as I put my arm through his and we began to walk on the red carpet. There were so many photographers screaming our names. Shawn wrapped his arm around my shoulders and I wrapped my arm around his waist. He kissed the side of my head. "How are you doing?" He asked after a few more minutes. I smiled and nodded at him.

"Good." I said.

"KISS HER SHAWN!" Someone yelled and Shawn and I laughed. We then looked at each other and Shawn put his lips on mine. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Shawn and I pulled away and smiled at each other.

"I love you." He said. My smile widened.

"I love you too." I said.

"Shawn! Over here!" Someone yelled. It was an interviewer. When we were in the car, Shawn had asked if interviews were okay, and I had said yes. Shawn held my hand and we walked over to the interviewer.

"Hello there! This is Julia Hoffman from E! News here with Shawn Mendes and his girlfriend, Y/n Y/l/n. Y/n, this is your first awards show, how do you feel?" Julia asked. I smiled and Shawn rubbed my back a little bit.

"I feel good! I'm a bit nervous, but Shawn's amazing and he reassured me that he wouldn't leave my side, so that made me feel better." I said.

"That's great. You guys are such a cute couple! So how did you guys meet?" She asked. I smiled at Shawn and he smiled at me before he began to speak.

"I had two shows in Boston last year, one on August fifteenth, and the other on August sixteenth, and I had no clue that she was in the crowd during the concert on the fifteenth. Anyways, the next day, the sixteenth, I went to a Dunkin Donuts shop and I didn't know what to get, so I was going to ask the girl at the front of the line, and when she turned around, I instantly fell in love. Obviously that girl was Y/n. I asked her out on a date right then and there and we sat down and talked for two hours. We had our first kiss the next day, and then this past December I flew to Boston and asked her to be my girlfriend, and obviously she said yes." Shawn said before kissing the side of my head.

"That's so cute! Now, Y/n, Shawn put a ring on your finger, correct?" She asked. I moved my hand away from Shawn's back to show off the ring as I smiled and nodded.

"Yes. It's not an engagement ring, it's a promise ring." I said.

"It was funny because I didn't do it the way that it's probably traditionally done. Instead of going out and getting the ring and then giving it to her, I asked her how she would feel if I gave her a promise ring, and she said that she liked that idea, so we were literally sitting there, having breakfast at IHOP when I promised her that someday I'll switch it out for an engagement ring and then for a wedding ring, and I promised her that I'll always love her and things like that." Shawn said.

"So you guys have already talked about getting married?" Julia asked with wide eyes. Shawn and I nodded.

"Yeah. We've already talked about kids too. Y/n is definitely the one and I love and adore her more than anything." Shawn said. I smiled at him and he kissed the top of my head when I leaned on him.

"That's so cute! Well good luck tonight Shawn. Have a good night!" Julia said. We thanked her and went back to the red carpet.

"You did so great babe!" Shawn said as he beamed at me and I could tell that he was proud of me. I smiled at him.

"Thank you." I said. Soon, we were called over to do another interview by Jason Kennedy.

"Hello everyone, Jason Kennedy here with Shawn Mendes and Y/n Y/l/n. How are you guys?" Jason asked. We smiled.

"Good! I'm so proud of this amazing girl, this is her first ever red carpet and she's doing great." Shawn said as he smiled at me.

"You know, sometimes you look at a couple, and you can tell how much love is there just by the way that they look at each other and sometimes you can see the love in their eyes, and let me tell you, I can see a lot of love between you guys." Jason said and Shawn kept his arm around my waist.

"Thank you. Yeah we were just saying to someone else that the ring that I gave her is a promise ring, but someday I'll trade it out for an engagement ring, and then for a wedding ring. Y/n's the one, I've known that from the moment that I laid eyes on her, so she's not going anywhere." Shawn said.

"Y/n, how does it make you feel, hearing Shawn say all of that?" Jason asked. I smiled.

"Really good. We're really lovey dovey with each other and affectionate and he's constantly telling me that he loves me, which makes me feel really happy because I love him too." I said. Jason nodded.

"Now, who said I love you first?" Jason asked. I raised my hand as Shawn pointed at me and we laughed.

"Well the thing is, I had a bit of a buzz going -" I started.

"She typically hates drinking so she's a lightweight, and when I saw her with a beer in her hand, I went over to her and she was definitely a bit wobbly." Shawn said.

"Drunk words are sober thoughts, right?" Jason asked and we nodded.

"Yup. Well I think that what had happened - well I know that this is what happened - was we were at a party where she was meeting my friends and my ex showed up, so Y/n got jealous when my ex started to flirt with me, so she had, like, three beers." Shawn said.

"Well I couldn't help it. I was sitting there watching her repeatedly touch your arm and laugh at every single word that you said." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah, so I took her out onto the balcony of where we were and she looked out at the view and then she was like 'I just love you so much and I don't want to lose you.' and we've been saying it to each other ever since." Shawn said and I nodded. Soon, the red carpet was over and so were all of the interviews. Shawn was up for an award, and I was excited.

"And the award goes to... SHAWN MENDES!" The person announced. I smiled at him and he gave me a quick kiss before going onstage.

"Thank you so much to my fans, you guys are amazing. Thank you to my whole team, Teddy, Andrew, Ziggy, and everyone. Thank you so much to my family, and a special thank you to my amazing girlfriend Y/n Y/l/n, who's here tonight. You inspired this song, so thank you for that. I love you guys. Thank you!" Shawn said before walking off stage. Soon he came back to his seat and I smiled at him.

"I'm so proud of you!" I said and Shawn smiled and kissed my cheek.

"Thank you darling, and thank you for inspiring that song." Shawn said. Later on we went back to his hotel and rested. I love Shawn so much and I had a lot of fun at my first ever red carpet event.
