149. He Comes Home From Tour

I sat in the living room with mine and my husband's three kids. Shawn Mendes, the singer and songwriter, is the father to our three kids: Rose Lucille Mendes, our seven year old daughter, Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes, our five year old son who goes by the nickname "Jake" and Sarah Grace Mendes, our three year old daughter.

"Mommy, when is Daddy going to come home?" Rose asked as she jumped up and down. Shawn comes home after finishing the first world tour that he's done in about eight years today.

"He'll be home soon, I promise." I said. She wasn't the only one that was dying to see Shawn. I've missed my husband so much and I can't wait to hug him and kiss him and run my fingers through his hair, but I know that when he walks in, I should let the kids go to him first and wait my turn.

"What are we going to do when Daddy gets home?" Jake asked.

"Well, you guys are going to run up to him and give him hugs and kisses and lots of love, and then if Daddy's not too tired, maybe he can play with you guys." I said. The kids nodded and then began jumping up and down even more when they heard and saw the door open. Shawn walked in and smiled at us. He dropped his luggage, squatted down, and opened up his arms.

"DADDY!" The kids yelled as they ran to their father. I smiled and looked on with pride. I took out my phone and snapped a picture or two.

"How are you guys?" Shawn asked as he looked at his kids.

"Good. Mommy said that when you get home, to give you hugs and kisses and lots of love and if you're not too tired maybe you can play with us." Jake said. Shawn smiled at me and I felt butterflies in my tummy at the mere sight of his smile.

"Is that right?" Shawn asked. I nodded and Shawn stood up at the same time that I stood up.

"Yup." I said. He opened his arms up for me to come into.

"Come here Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said as I walked over to my loving and amazing husband and smiled. I wrapped my arms around his torso and he wrapped his arms around his shoulders. He kissed the top of my head.

"You're home." I said. He rubbed my back a little.

"I am. And so are you, because I know that you say that my arms are your home." He said. I nodded as my head rested against his chest and I closed my eyes for a moment. I then looked up at him.

"Are you tired or hungry or anything? Do you want to sleep? How was your flight?" I asked. Shawn chuckled at all of my questions.

"My flight was good. I'm not hungry right now. I think that I'll play with the kids." Shawn said. I nodded and took a step back. Rose had already gotten something and she handed it to him.

"Daddy, will you do a puzzle with me please?" She asked.

"Do your siblings want to do a puzzle too?" He asked.

"I'll do anything with you Daddy." Sarah said. Shawn smiled and picked her up.

"I'll do anything with you too Sarah. I missed you guys so much. I thought about you guys constantly. Jakey boy, do you want to do a puzzle with your sisters, your mother and I?" Shawn asked. Jake nodded. Shawn put Sarah down.

"Yeah!" Jake said and Shawn laughed.

"Babe, I've been playing with the kids. You just got home and you haven't seen them in a while. I'll just watch." I said. Shawn tilted his head.

"I wouldn't mind if you joined us though." Shawn said.

"I know, but I just want to watch. I love watching you spend time with our kids." I said with a smile. Shawn nodded and kissed my forehead. He let his lips lingers, it's one of his ways of saying I love you.

"I love you so much Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said, and even though Shawn and I have been married for eight years, him calling me Mrs. Mendes still made my heart flutter as my smile widened.

"I love you so much too Mr. Mendes." I said. We moved the coffee table and Shawn and the kids put all of the puzzle pieces on the floor.

"So what did you guys - Jake take that puzzle piece out of your mouth right now. You know better than that." Shawn said. Jake took the piece out of his mouth.

"Sorry Daddy." Jake said.

"It's okay, I just don't want you choking. What did you guys do while I was away?" Shawn said and asked. I crossed my legs as I sat on the couch and watched my husband and children.

"Waited for you to come home." Rose said.

"Awww." Shawn said with a smile.

"Whenever we got sad and missed you, if you weren't able to talk, Mommy would put on videos of you on the tv." Sarah said. Shawn smiled at me for a moment before looking back at the puzzle pieces as he helped his kids figure out the puzzle.

"Did she now?" Shawn asked. The kids nodded.

"Yeah." Jake said.

"Did you guys like watching videos of me or did I bore you guys?" Shawn asked with a smirk.

"Nooo, you never bore us Daddy." Jake said and Shawn smiled.

"Good. What videos did you guys watch?" Shawn asked as his eyes flickered over to me.

"One of them was your CMT Crossroads episode. We watched some of your old live streams that people have put on YouTube and we watched some of your interviews with James Corden and Jimmy Fallon." I said. Shawn smiled and nodded. Suddenly, Sarah began to cry.

"What's wrong sweet pea?" Shawn asked as he reached over and rubbed her cheek a little.

"I can't figure out the puzzle." She cried.

"Oh honey, that's okay. Here, look at the box, there's a picture of what it's supposed to look like. So we have to make it look like that, okay?" Shawn asked. She slowly stopped crying and nodded.

"Okay Daddy." She said.

"Do you want to sit on my lap?" He asked. She nodded and crawled into his lap. I watched, feeling nothing but happiness as I watched the love of my life, my husband, play with our kids. He used to be so afraid to hold kids, and now he has three little ones that he showers with love, affection, and gifts. I took another picture but posted this one on Instagram. In this one, not only was Sarah sitting on Shawn's lap, but he was pointing out to her where a puzzle piece went.

"The kids and I are very happy that their Daddy is home from tour! They immediately gave him hugs and kisses and then Rose asked him to do a puzzle with her and Jake and Sarah joined in. Shawn Mendes, you're an amazing father to our children. I love you lots." I wrote. Shawn gets notifications when I post, and his phone lit up.

"Guys, Mommy made a post on Instagram." Shawn said as he unlocked his phone and smiled.

"Do you like it?" I asked. He looked at me and nodded.

"Yes, I love it. You're an amazing mother to our children and I love you too." Shawn said with a smile. I smiled back.

"Kids, do you guys like doing puzzles with your Daddy?" I asked. They all nodded.

"Yeah!" They said and I giggled. Shawn looked over at me.

"You know Mrs. Mendes, there's some room next to me if you want to sit next to me." Shawn said. I nodded and sat next to him on the floor and leaned my head on his shoulder. He kissed the top of my head.

"Mommy, do you love Daddy?" Jake asked. Shawn looked over at me and I smiled at him before smiling at Jake as I rested my head on Shawn's shoulder again.

"I love your Daddy more than words will ever be able to describe. You know, your Daddy likes to give me gifts, but do you guys want to know what the best gift he ever gave me is?" I asked. They nodded.

"Yeah." They said.

"The best gift that he ever gave me was motherhood. Without him, I wouldn't have you guys." I said. Shawn kissed the top of my head again.

"I love you." He said.

"I love you too." I said with a smile. Soon, the kids and Shawn were done with their puzzle, and it was time for the kids to go to bed. Shawn put them to bed and then came back downstairs and sat on the couch with me. He pulled me into his lap and smiled at me.

"Do you want to know what the best gift you ever gave me was?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. What was it?" I asked as I rubbed his cheek with my thumb.

"Fatherhood. You carried each of our babies in your belly for nine months and I'm so grateful for that." Shawn said. I smiled at him.

"I know that it's been a few years, but I still feel bad about all of my pregnancy hormones." I said. Shawn shook his head.

"Don't honey. It's okay. I knew that it was the hormones talking and making you cry. I'm very proud of you by the way." He said as he looked at me with such love in his eyes that I could have sworn that my heart was going to burst.

"Why are you proud of me?" I asked. He pulled me closer to him as he sat up a bit. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and he wrapped his arms around my waist.

"My love, you were basically a single mother while I was away." He said.

"I had help from my mom and Grace and other people." I said.

"Yes, but who was it that made breakfast for the kids, brought the kids to their schools, went to work everyday, picked the kids up from school, came home, cleaned the house, made dinner for the kids, bathed them, comforted them when they were upset, and put them to bed?" Shawn asked.

"Me." I said. He nodded.

"Exactly. And I'm guessing that the people that helped weren't here every single night?" Shawn asked, his eyebrows raised.

"You're right." I said. He nodded.

"See? You were basically a single mother while I was away, but you were still a great mother to our kids. I'm so proud of you for that honey." Shawn said.

"Well thank you for being proud of me. I love it when you're proud of me." I said. Shawn smiled. I held back tears and looked down. Shawn put his index finger underneath my chin and gently lifted my head up so I would look at him.

"What's up darling? Why do you look like you're holding back tears?" He asked. I let the tears fall.

"It was so hard. Like, I had gone from being used to you being on tour for a while and then after we got married, you took a break for about seven years, so we were always together, and I always had you to go to when one of the kids was sick or something was going on, and I had become so used to you being home, and then you went back on tour. There were so many - no I shouldn't say that." I said as I stopped myself. Shawn rubbed my back.

"No I want to know what it is. There were so many what?" Shawn asked. I sighed.

"There were so many nights when I would just look at your pillow and cry as quietly as I could because I missed you so much and I didn't want to wake up the kids." I said. Shawn pulled me in for a hug.

"Oh honey. I'm so sorry. Why didn't you call and tell me?" He asked. I pulled away from the hug and shrugged.

"I don't know. I didn't want to burden you or anything." I said. Shawn shook his head.

"You never burden me or anything darling. When you feel like that, I don't care what time it is, reach out to me, okay?" He asked. I nodded and Shawn wiped some of my tears away.

"Okay. You know hubby, I never got a kiss." I said. Shawn chuckled.

"Well wifey, maybe we should fix that." He said. I nodded and our lips met. I felt my heart race as if I had just run the Boston Marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Shawn and I pulled away and smiled at each other. Shawn then yawned.

"Let's go to bed honey." I said. Shawn nodded and held my hand as we turned off the lights downstairs and then went up to bed and cuddled up to each other.

"Good night Mrs. Mendes. I love you." Shawn said. I smiled as he laid on his back and I put my head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head.

"Good night Mr. Mendes. I love you too." I said. The next morning the kids, Shawn, and I, sat down to eat the delicious pancakes that Shawn had made. He sat at the head of the table, I sat on one side of the table with Jake, and Rose and Sarah sat next to each other on the other side of the table.

"So, kids, do you guys think that I should take your mother out for a date night while you guys spend the night with Meimei?" Shawn asked. I looked at him with wide eyes.

"Yeah!" The kids said. Shawn smiled at them and then at me.

"Our children have spoken. Do you want to call your mother after breakfast and ask if we can drop the kids off for the night?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said with a smile.

"Good." He said. Later on, I called my mom and she said that she was fine with taking the kids not just for one night, but for two nights. Also later on, Shawn told me that he had made reservations for dinner that night at a restaurant by the lake.

"Remember when we were there and a waitress started to hit on you?" I asked. Shawn groaned.

"Yes, oh my gosh. And then we reported her to the manager and she got fired." Shawn said. I nodded. I soon got ready for our date. I've been married to Shawn for eight years, but we've been together for twelve, so I knew that he was going to be taking me out for a date sometime soon after he got home. So, I had gone out before he got home, and bought a new dress. The dress was strapless and white, and I put on white heels. I let my hair stay down and put on some makeup - the usual, eyeliner, mascara, and eye shadow - and then stepped out of the bathroom.

"Shawn? How do I look?" I asked. Shawn was dressed in black dress pants and a red button up shirt - the one that he knows I love so much. His eyes widened when he looked at me.

"Oh honey. You look so beautiful. Come here." He said as he smiled and opened up his arms. I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

"You look so handsome." I said.

"Thank you, but personally I'm stuck on how you look. Is this a new dress?" Shawn asked. I giggled and nodded.

"Yup. Shawn, we've been together for twelve years, I knew that you were going to take me out for a date night sometime soon after you got home." I said with a smile and Shawn blushed.

"Am I really that predictable?" He asked.

"It's not that you're predictable, it's that I'm your significant other and I know you better than anyone else does." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek before grabbing his phone.

"Let me take a few pictures of my gorgeous wife." Shawn said. I blushed and smiled.

"Come on, we should get going. We still have to drop the kids off at my mom's house." I said.

"Okay, just like, two more pictures babe." Shawn said. I giggled.

"You've already taken about ten." I said. He chuckled as he put his phone in his pockets. We got the kids in the car and drove to my mom's house. My mom, and my brother, were waiting inside. My mom's eyes widened.

"Oh my gosh you guys look so good!" She said when Shawn and I stepped into the house. I blushed.

"Doesn't she look absolutely gorgeous?" Shawn asked and I smiled at him. He was already smiling at me.

"She does." My mom said.

"You don't look too bad yourself hubby." I said. He kissed my cheek and then pulled out his phone and handed it to my brother Thomas.

"Would you mind taking a couple of pictures of us please?" Shawn asked.

"Sure." Thomas said. In one of them Shawn had his arm wrapped around my shoulders as my arm wrapped around his waist and we smiled at the camera, and in another photo that my brother took, Shawn was kissing my cheek and I smiled at the camera as one of my hands - the hand with my wedding ring on it - rested on Shawn's clothed abs. Thomas then handed the phone back to Shawn.

"Thank you so much." Shawn said.

"You're welcome." Thomas said.

"Babe we should get going." I said. Shawn nodded and we said goodbye to the kids, my mom, and my brother, and then got back in the car to head to the restaurant.

"I've missed date nights with you babe." Shawn said as he interlaced our fingers together. As our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. I had missed this feeling.

"I've missed date nights with you too." I said. Shawn gently kissed my hand.

"You look so beautiful darling." Shawn said with a smile.

"Thank you baby. You look so handsome." I said and Shawn looked at me as he smiled for a moment before looking back at the road.

"Thank you honey." He said. I kissed his hand. We talked for a bit as we drove, and soon we were at the restaurant. Shawn unbuckled and was about to get out of the car.

"Wait, turn to me for a second please." I requested. Shawn turned to me as he gave me a confused look.

"What are you doing?" He asked. I didn't say anything, instead I just reached over and undid the top three buttons of his shirt so it showed a little bit of his chest and chest hair and smiled. Shawn chuckled.

"There we go. That's better." I said. Shawn smiled at me.

"I love you my crazy girl." Shawn said. I laughed and we got out of the car.

"I love you too. Babe, you have a nice chest and nice chest hair, why not show it off?" I asked as Shawn came over to me and interlaced his fingers with mine.

"Because you're the only one that I want to show it off to." Shawn said. I looked at him and smiled. We went in and we were soon seated. I leaned forward over the table.

"Okay, maybe let's redo just one button. You are mine." I said and Shawn chuckled.

"Don't worry darling, I'm all yours. I never knew that you liked my chest hair so much." Shawn said. I blushed.

"I can't help it! I love everything about you. My husband is so sexy." I said and Shawn smiled.

"Well my wife is also pretty sexy." Shawn said before taking a sip of his beer. I blushed.

"But do you want to know what's the most important to me?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah." He said. I smiled at the way that he looked at me, the same way that he always does, with so much love on his eyes. "Babe?" Shawn asked, snapping me back to reality.

"Sorry, I just love the way that you look at me. Um, so, what's the most important to me is your heart. You have a heart of gold Shawn. You have the kindest heart and sweetest soul. Your amazingly good looks are just a bonus." I said and Shawn laughed, causing my heart to flutter.

"Well my love, I feel the same way about you. After dinner, when we get home, do you mind if I post those pictures that your brother took on Instagram?" Shawn asked. I smiled and shook my head.

"No that's fine babe. I don't mind." I said. Shawn smiled and after our lovely dinner, we went home. Shawn unzipped my dress and we both got changed into our pajamas and then Shawn helped me take my makeup off. Shawn and I decided that we would make love tomorrow, right now we just wanted to cuddle and talk after being away from each other for so long. My phone dinged and I saw that Shawn had posted the pictures on Instagram. I smiled and read the caption.

"The hardest part of tour is being away from my loved ones. I'm so beyond happy to be home with my wife and kids, and I'm definitely very happy that my smoke show of a wife and I went out for date night tonight. I mean seriously guys, isn't my wife the most gorgeous being ever? I can't get over this new dress of hers. I'm constantly in awe of you Y/n, and like I told you yesterday, I'm so proud of you. For the whole time that I was away on tour, Y/n was basically a single mother. She took care of the kids all by herself, with her mom or best friend or someone else occasionally coming over, but it was my wife who did everything every single day. I love you so much Y/n Mendes, and I'm so happy to be home with you and our beautiful kids." He wrote. I smiled at him.

"Oh Shawn that's beautiful." I said as he laid down on the couch. I laid down next to him and put my head on his chest. He kissed the top of my head.

"Not as beautiful as you my love." Shawn said. I looked up at him and kissed him and of course he kissed back.

"I love you." I said. He smiled at me.

"I love you too. It's good to be home." He said. I nodded. I'm so happy that Shawn is home - and I'm back home in his arms.
