99. Dancing Daughter

I was laying in bed, sleeping, when I heard someone start to play the piano. I looked at the time. It was seven o'clock in the morning. Well, I might as well get up. I got out of bed, went to the closet, and put on black leggings and a blue long sleeve shirt. Shawn wasn't in bed with me, and since our daughter Rose is only two, I highly doubt that it would be her playing the piano, especially so beautifully.

I wandered down the hall to see if Shawn playing the piano had woken up Rose. She wasn't in her bed. Huh. She must be downstairs with Shawn. I went down stairs and into our family room. There was Shawn, facing away from me, playing the piano. Rose was sitting next to him and she was giggling.

"Shhh, you have to be quiet, Mommy is sleeping and we don't want to wake her up, now do we?" Shawn asked Rose. Rose looked over at me and pointed at me. Shawn turned his head and a look of confusion was etched across his face but was soon replaced by a smile when he saw me.

"Hello my loves. What are you two up to?" I asked.

"Playing the piano. Did we wake you?" Shawn said and asked. I shrugged.

"It's okay. I like mornings like this. Did you guys already eat?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah, we didn't want to wake you, but I made you pancakes. They're on the kitchen counter my love." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Daddy?" Rose asked.

"Yes sweet pea?" He asked her with a smile. By now I was in front of the piano, leaning on it so I could see everything.

"Am I your love too?" She asked. My heart melted as his smile grew. He kissed her forehead.

"Of course you are honey." Shawn said, causing both Rose and myself to smile.

"I love you Daddy." She said.

"I love you too my Rosie girl." Shawn said. Rose looked at me.

"I love you Mommy." She said.

"I love you too my sweet girl. Do you want to keep playing the piano with Daddy while I eat?" I asked. She nodded her head.

"Yes. I want to be just like Daddy someday." She said.

"Really?" Shawn asked. She looked at him and nodded.

"Yeah. I want to play piano too." She said.

"Do you want to play guitar?" Shawn asked her.

"Doesn't that hurt your fingers?" Rose asked. Shawn thought for a moment before shrugging.

"A little at first. But then you get used to it and it doesn't bother you anymore. I can teach you whatever you want me to teach you, as long as I know it, and if I don't, I'll figure it out. Okay?" Shawn said and asked. Rose nodded.

"Okay." She said.

"Well, I'm going to eat breakfast, are you two going to keep playing the piano?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment before looking at Rose.

"Do you want to keep playing the piano my sweet pea?" Shawn asked Rose.

"Yeah!" She yelled. Shawn and I laughed. I went into the kitchen to eat my breakfast that Shawn made me. He's such an amazing husband and father. Sure he's away sometimes, but he always comes back to us.

Shawn's point of view

"Daddy?" Rose whispered as I sat next to her. We were sitting at the piano, playing music. I looked at my beautiful daughter with a smile.

"Yes?" I whispered back.

"You're my favorite person." She whispered with a giggle. I shook my head.

"What about Mommy?" I asked. She shook her head.

"No. It's you." She said.

"Well that's not fair to Mommy. She does a lot for you." I said. We were both still whispering. Rose thought for a moment before shrugging.

"But I love you Daddy." She said.

"I know, and I love you too. But Mommy also loves you a lot." I said. Rose nodded.

"Okay. I don't have a favorite anymore." She said. She was probably just saying that to please me, but oh well. After Y/n finished her breakfast, she came back to us at the piano.

"You guys sound so good!" Y/n said. I smiled at her. She looked gorgeous.

"Thank you baby. Rose, doesn't Mommy look gorgeous in my clothes?" I asked Rose, hoping that she would say yes because if she didn't, it would really upset Y/n. Rose nodded, thank God.

"Yeah! But why isn't she wearing her own clothes?" Rose asked, looking confused.

"Well, I wear Daddy's clothes because they smell like him and they're comfy." Y/n said. My smile grew.

"Rose why don't you go play with your toys so I can have some alone time with Mommy?" I asked. Rose nodded. I helped her off the seat and she ran into the other room to play with her toys.

"Thank you for the pancakes my love." Y/n said as I stood up. I brushed a stray hair out of her face.

"You're welcome. You know, I never got my good morning kiss." I pointed out with a smirk. Y/n giggled.

"Well maybe we should fix that." She said. I immediately put my lips on hers. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks, and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach. We pulled away, smiling at each other.

"I liked that kiss a lot. In fact, I loved it." I said.

"Yeah?" She asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said.

"Well that's good because I feel the same way. I loved it too." She said.

"I love you so much." I said. She smiled.

"I love you so much too." She said, causing me to smile.

"You're so amazing. So divine." I said.

"That's you honey. Why don't you go play with Rose. She missed you yesterday." Y/n said. Yesterday I was at the studio. I frowned.

"Okay. I feel bad." I said. Now it was Y/n's turn to frown.

"Why?" She asked.

"Because I'm away so much." I said.

"Baby boy, it's fine. You're supporting your family." She said. I nodded.

"Okay. I'm going to go play with her." I said. Y/n nodded and walked upstairs, probably to read a book.

"Hi Daddy." Rose said when I sat down with her.

"Hi sweet pea. Can I play with you?" I asked. She nodded and handed me a barbie doll. I smiled.

"You can brush her hair." She said. I chuckled and nodded. I got the small brush and brushed Jen's hair - I quickly learned that that's the doll's name. After a little bit, Rose crawled into my lap.

"You okay sweet pea?" I asked. She nodded as she rested her head against my chest. This is adorable.

"Yeah. I just missed you yesterday." She said. My heart broke.

"I'm sorry honey, but you know that Daddy has to work, right?" I asked. She nodded as I held her.

"Yeah. Will you dance with me pretty pwease?" Rose asked. I nodded and smiled.

"Of course yes, but can we stay like this for a little bit please? I like to hold you." I said. She nodded against my chest again and soon she was asleep. I carried her up to her bedroom and laid her down in her bed. I went into my bedroom to find my wife reading that book, To All The Boys I've Loved Before, probably for the millionth time. Since she was so into the book, she didn't even notice that I was there until she felt the bed dip.

"Oh jeez Shawn you scared me." She said with a giggle.

"Sorry baby. Rose fell asleep on me, but her and I are going to dance later on. But for now, it's you and me time." I said as I took the book, put the bookmark in it, and closed it. I pulled her onto my lap and we smiled at each other. She rested her forehead against mine. I closed my eyes and hummed in contentment as she rubbed my cheek with her thumb. God, I am so insanely in love with this woman.

"I love you Shawny." Y/n said as she pulled her head away.

"I love you too. Do you want to dance with me?" I asked with a smile. Y/n smiled at me and nodded. I carried her down the stairs and we went into the kitchen. I put on Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, mine and Y/n's first dance song. Suddenly, we heard a cry.

"I got her." Y/n said. I nodded and watched as Y/n ran up the stairs. She soon came back down with Rose on her hip. Rose made grabby hands at me.

"Hi sweet pea. Do you know what song this is that Mommy and I have playing on repeat?" I asked. She shook her head.

"No. What is it?" She asked.

"Well, after people get married, they have their first dance as husband and wife, and this is what Mommy and I danced to for our first dance." I said. Rose smiled.

"Can I dance to it with you?" Rose asked. I looked at my stunning wife.

"Well this is a very special song for Daddy and I. I know what song you can listen to though." Y/n said. She then put on The Girl You Think I Am by Carrie Underwood, and Rose and I danced to it as Carrie sung about how I think that my daughter is strong, that she's fearless, and that she wants to be the girl I think she is. I'll always love this girl, no matter what, and I can't wait for more of our dances.
