73. He Records Himself While Driving
My boyfriend of three years, Shawn Mendes, likes to record himself while driving. He doesn't do this all of the time, but he does it every once in a while. Personally, I don't like it. I think that he could, God forbid, do it and get into a car accident. I don't want that to happen. He did it just the other day (A/n: he actually didn't but let's just go with it) and we got into a fight about it.
"Shawn did you seriously videotape yourself while driving again?" I asked.
"Well my own song came on, I have to record that when it happens." He said.
"Seriously?" I asked.
"Yeah, I love doing that." He said.
"Well I hate it." I said.
"Why?" He asked.
"Because you could get into a car accident!" I yelled.
"Okay, okay, don't scream at me!" He yelled.
"Well you could get into a car accident and I don't want to lose the most important person in my life. You mean too much to me Shawn. You either stop recording yourself while you're driving, or we're over." I said. His eyes widened and a look of panic was soon etched across his face.
"No, no, no. I can't lose you." He said.
"Well I can't lose you either Shawn." I said.
"Okay, I'll stop. I promise." He said.
"You absolutely promise?" I asked. He nodded as he hugged me.
"I absolutely promise." He said. I nodded against his chest and we soon went to bed and fell asleep.
One month later
I was sitting on the couch in the home that I share with Shawn when my phone rang. I didn't recognize the number, but for some reason I had a feeling that I should answer it.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Is this Miss Y/l/n?" They asked.
"Yes." I said.
"Hi, this is Dr. Daniels at (local hospital name). We regret to inform you that your boyfriend Shawn Mendes was in a car accident and is here. He's in stable condition but he has a broken arm and a concussion." The doctor said.
"I'll be right there." I said. I rushed to the hospital. What could have caused him to get into a car accident? He better not have been recording himself again. I got to the hospital and he was awake. When he saw me, he smiled.
"Hey baby girl." He said.
"Hi honey, what happened?" I asked as I sat on the bed and brushed a stray curl from his forehead.
"I wasn't paying attention to the road and crashed into a guy." He said.
"Were you videotaping yourself again?" I asked. Shawn looked down and sighed. That was it. I had my answer. I got off the bed and sat in the chair.
"I'm sorry honey." He said.
"You broke your promise to me. How am I supposed to trust you?" I said and asked.
"You can trust me." He said defensively.
"Yeah, and if you're breaking promises, how am I supposed to know that for sure?" I asked. Shawn shook his head.
"I don't know." He said.
"I told you that if you continue to do this, then we'll break up. You promised me that you wouldn't do it, and you did it, and look at what happened." I said.
"I know and I'm sorry. You're not going to break up with me, are you?" He said and asked.
"Honestly Shawn, I don't know what to do." I said.
"Please don't break up with me. I won't do it again, I swear." He said.
"And how am I supposed to believe that?" I asked. He started to cry.
"I don't know but I can't lose you." He said.
"Well maybe losing me will be your reality check. I think that I need a break." I said, tears forming in my eyes.
"I love you." He said.
"And I'll always love you Shawn. I just can't keep getting so scared about you driving and recording and now I can't trust you because you broke a promise. I have to go." I said, and with that, I left.
Two months later
I've been living with my mom for the past two months. I go to school, and come home. I rarely hang out with my friends, but I text them and call them sometimes.
"Please come over, I haven't seen you in forever." My best friend Grace said over the phone.
"Grace, I saw you last week." I said with a laugh.
"Yeah, like I said, forever. Just please come over tonight." She said. I sighed.
"Fine." I said.
"Yay!" She exclaimed causing me to laugh. I went over to her house and up to her room. Shawn was sitting on the bed.
"Nope." I said and turned around to leave. Grace grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
"Nope, you're not going anywhere." Grace said. "Shawn is a mess and he needs you back."
"He never should have been recording himself in the first place. He promised me that he would never do it again, and then he did. How am I supposed to trust him?" I said and asked.
"Has he done it at all in the past two months?" She asked.
"Well... no, but he could do it again." I said.
"And I promise you on my life that I won't." Shawn said.
"On your life?" I asked. He nodded.
"Please baby. I've been so lost without you." He said. I looked at my feet and played with my fingers. I looked at Grace.
"I don't know what to do." I said, tears forming in my eyes.
"No, please don't cry honey." Shawn said as he rushed forward to engulf me in a hug. I cried in his arms and then pulled away to look at him. His eyes were red like he had been crying recently and he looked tired.
"Can I ask you a question?" I asked.
"Anything." He said.
"Have you seen any other girls since we broke up?" I asked. He shook his head violently.
"No, God no. You're my one and only, even if we're not together. I promise you that I won't record myself or anything while driving again. Please honey." He pleaded as he took my hands in his. Grace was watching the whole thing. I looked at our hands and then back up at him. I smiled and nodded.
"Okay, but if you do it again, we'll break up and we'll never get back together. Understand?" I said and asked. Shawn nodded and kissed me. I felt my heart rate speed up, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, and I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks.
"I understand." He said when we pulled away. Grace clapped.
"Yay! My favorite people are back together again." She said. Shawn and I laughed.
"Come on, let's get my stuff from my mom's house and then go back home." I said. We walked into my mom's house, and when she saw us holding hands, her jaw dropped.
"You guys are back together again?" She asked. We smiled and nodded. "Okay but you seriously can't do it again Shawn." She said.
"I won't, I promise." He said. Shawn and I packed up my stuff and left to go back home. We got into bed and cuddled.
"Oh it's good to be home." I said. Shawn held me and chuckled.
"It's good to have you home my love." Shawn said. I hummed. "I've really missed you and I've been so lonely."
"I'm sorry honey. I just needed to do what I felt was best for me. I needed to take care of myself." I said. Shawn nodded.
"I understand." He said.
"Let's get some rest. Good night Shawn, I love you." I said. I could hear him smile.
"Good night Y/n, I love you too." He said before kissing the top of my head. I'm so glad that Shawn and I are back together.
