32. Rose's Boy Problems
A/n: So, this one isn't really about Y/n and Shawn, but about how Shawn would be as a father. He would be such an amazing dad, omg.
My husband, Shawn Mendes, is very protective of our children, Rose, Jake, and Sarah. Rose is sixteen, Jake is fourteen, and Sarah is twelve. Rose is becoming more and more interested in boys, which Shawn doesn't like.
"Mom? Can I talk to you in private?" Rose asked while I was sitting next to Shawn on the couch. I nodded.
"Of course." I said before turning to Shawn. "I'll be right back." I said as I stood up and followed Rose upstairs and into her bedroom. "So what's up sweet pea?" I asked.
"There's a guy that I like. His name is Jason, and I really like him, mom. How do I talk to him?" Rose asked. My little girl was growing up.
"Well, you could always just go up to him and strike up a conversation with him. Then, you could ask him for his number. See where it goes from there. How does that sound?" I said and asked. She smiled and nodded.
"Okay. Wait, what if he doesn't like me back?" Rose asked.
"Well, there are other fish in the sea and it's not the end of the world. I had to kiss a few frogs before I found my prince, and now look. I've been with my prince for over twenty years and we're still head over heels for each other, and we have three beautiful children." I said with a smile. Shawn is the love of my life, and I don't know what I would do without him. There was a knock on the door before it was cracked open a little.
"Can I come in?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Of course." I said with a smile. Shawn walked in and stood in front of Rose and I since we were sitting on her bed.
"Everything okay?" He asked, and you could see the concern etched across his face. I nodded, stood up, and kissed his jaw.
"Yeah, just telling her that there are plenty of fish in the sea. There's a boy that she likes." I said. Shawn's eyes widened.
"Rosie girl, you're not allowed to date until you're thirty, maybe even forty." Shawn said.
"Shawn! Come on, let her live her life." I said. Shawn looked at me. He looked upset.
"Can I talk to you in our room?" He asked me. I nodded. Oh God. Rose grabbed my hand before I left the room.
"Please don't fight with dad." Rose said. I nodded.
"Trust me, I don't want to fight with him." I said before walking into my bedroom only to find Shawn pacing back and forth. I shut the door.
"How could you do this?" He asked.
"What are you talking about?" I asked him, confused.
"I don't want her dating." Shawn said.
"Do you think I want her growing up? No, I want her to stay small. They're not even dating, she just likes the boy. Let her live her life Shawn. Do you think my parents were happy with me growing up and getting married and having kids? Sure they were happy for me but they didn't want me to grow up." I said. Shawn walked over to me and put his hands on my waist.
"She's my Rosie girl. I want her to stay little." Shawn said. I nodded and held his face in my hands.
"I know. So do I. But she likes this boy, and we have to respect that. Okay?" I said and asked. He nodded.
"Okay. Come on, let's go cuddle." He said, opening the door.
"She thinks we're fighting." I said. His smile dropped.
"Let me go talk to her." Shawn said. I went with him. She was crying. "What's wrong Rosie?" Shawn asked as he rushed over to her.
"I made you and mom fight." She cried.
"No, we didn't fight, we just talked about how we don't like the fact that our little Rosie girl is growing up. But we have to let you grow up. If you like this boy, talk to him. Sometimes boys are nervous to make the first move. Luckily your mother was staring at me at the Timberlake concert and said that I was very good looking, so I asked her out. That was the best decision that I ever made." Shawn said, smiling at me. I smiled back at him. Rose nodded.
"I have to grow up someday Daddy." Rose said. Shawn nodded.
"I know. I remember when you were a little baby. You were so cute. You still are. I love you, my sweet pea." Shawn said. Rose smiled as she hugged her daddy that she loves so much.
"No matter who I find, no matter who my future husband is, you'll be my king, they'll just be my prince. Okay Daddy?" She asked. Tears came to Shawn's eyes and he nodded as he hugged her again. He whispered something in her ear that I didn't quite catch. Oh well, I'll just ask him later.
The next day Rose came home from school with a spring in her step. Shawn and I looked at each other.
"What's up with you Rose?" I asked. She smiled at me.
"Oh nothing, Jason just asked me out on a date." She said with a smile. Shawn's eyes widened and so did mine as I smiled.
"That's great honey! Where are you guys going to go?" I asked.
"We're going to go bowling on Saturday. We traded numbers." She said. Shawn was quiet.
"You okay Shawn?" I asked. He nodded.
"Do you want me to drive you?" Shawn asked her. She shook her head hesitantly.
"Would you mind if mom did? I feel like she would embarrass me a little less." Rose said shyly.
"What are you talking about Rosie? I wouldn't embarrass you." Shawn said, and you could tell that his feeling were slightly hurt.
"You would get all protective and stuff." Rose said.
"Yes, because you're my little girl." Shawn said.
"Don't you understand? I'm growing up." She said.
"I at least want to meet the boy, so I want to drive you." Shawn said. Rose finally nodded.
"Fine." She said, and stormed up to her room. I looked at Shawn.
"She's a moody teenager. Let her be." I said. Shawn nodded.
"I love you my dear." Shawn said with a smile. I smiled back at him.
"I love you too. What did you whisper to Rose yesterday?" I asked. He shook his head.
"That's a secret." He said.
"Come on, we promised each other, no secrets, remember?" I asked. Shawn nodded and sighed.
"Fine. I told her that if she'll always be my little girl and I promise to walk her down the aisle someday." Shawn said. I smiled.
"That's so cute. Did you know how lovely you are?" I asked my loving, amazing, handsome husband. Shawn laughed.
"You tell me all the time, so yes, I do." Shawn said. I placed a gentle but passionate kiss on his lips. I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks, and I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon.
"Ewwww." We heard Jake say. Shawn and I pulled away, blushing and laughing.
"Sorry Jakey." I said. Jake is a momma's boy, so he came over and sat next to me. He's named after my friend who passed away, and his middle names are after two of my uncles.
"Momma why do you kiss Daddy?" He asked. Oh gosh. I looked at Shawn.
"Well," I said. "When you love someone as much as Daddy and I love each other, you kiss them." I said. Jake nodded.
"And Mommy and I love each other very much." Shawn said. Jake nodded and went back upstairs to his room.
"SARAH GET OUT!" Shawn and I heard Rose yell. We rushed up the stairs. Sarah was crying.
"Rose what happened?" Shawn asked.
"She was annoying me. She kept asking what I was saying to Jason when it's none of her damn business." Rose said.
"Language young lady." I said.
"Sorry, but she was annoying me." Rose said. I took Sarah into her room as Shawn talked to Rose about what happened. He can always get her to talk. Soon, it was time for bed and Shawn and I cuddled up to each other.
"I love you Mr. Mendes." I said. Shawn smiled at me before kissing my forehead.
"I love you too Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said.
"God that never gets old." I said. Shawn chuckled, and with that, we fell asleep.
Shawn's point of view
It's Saturday, which means I have to take my Rosie girl to the bowling alley to meet up with Jason, her crush. I hope that he doesn't break her hurt, and if he does, I'll kick his ass.
"Daddy how do I look?" Rose asked. She was wearing a gray sweater and ripped jeans.
"Beautiful. My little girl really is growing up." I said, becoming teary eyed.
"Don't cry Daddy, I'll always be your little girl." Rose said. I hugged her and kissed the top of her head. "I love you Daddy." She said.
"I love you too sweet pea. Come on, let's get going." I said. She nodded and we got in the car.
"I have to say, I'm really excited. He's a really nice guy." She said. I doubted it, he was probably perverted, but I let her think what she believed.
"If he pressures you for anything sexual I'll kick his ass." I said.
"Dad! Come on, he would never do that." She said. I nodded.
"Do you remember the time that I was giving you and Jake a bath and -" I started.
"Jake streaked? Yes Daddy, you tell it all the time." She said with a laugh. I smiled. We soon got to the bowling alley. There was a boy standing outside, playing with his fingers. "Hi Jason! This is my dad, Shawn." She said.
"You can call me Mr. Mendes." I said. He nodded, looking scared of me. "Listen, if you hurt my daughter, I will come after you. Got it?" I asked. He nodded his head violently, and the two of them went inside. I picked Rosie up later. "How was it?" I asked as we drove back home.
"It was so much fun! He's so funny and nice. He offered to pay for everything, but I helped pay for my bowling sneakers." She said.
"Good. You guys going to see each other again?" I asked.
"Yeah. Next Saturday. Is that okay?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. I'll drive you again." I said. The next Saturday they went out again, and ten years later, they were married. I'm a proud Daddy.
