20. You Have Another Baby
I have been pregnant for the past eight months with mine and my husband's second baby. My husband is the singer and songwriter, Shawn Mendes. We already have a daughter, Rose Lucille Mendes, who is two years old. Now we're having a baby boy. Rose is the light of our lives and I know that our baby boy will be too. I was standing in the kitchen doing dishes, when my water broke, even though I still had a month left in the pregnancy.
"SHAWN!" I yelled. He came running down the stairs.
"What's wrong darling?" He asked.
"My water broke." I said. I felt worried. My baby boy would be early. Would he be okay? Shawn nodded.
"Okay. The hospital bag is already in the car, I'll grab Rose and we'll head to the hospital." Shawn said, also looking panicked. I started to head to the car when Shawn stopped me. "Wait for me love. I'll help you out." He said. I nodded.
"Okay." I said. I waited by the door as Shawn grabbed Rose and we headed out the door and into the car. Shawn helped me into the front seat and then buckled in Rose, and then got in the car and started driving.
"Okay, we should be there in a little bit, just keep breathing." Shawn said.
"I'll call my mom." I said. I called her and she picked up.
"Hi honey." She said.
"I'm in labor and AHHH, Shawn is taking me to the hospital." I said as contractions hit.
"Okay, I'll be there soon. Where's Rose?" She asked.
"She's with us." I said. My mom and I said goodbye and hung up.
"We'll be there soon love, we're okay." Shawn said, trying to keep me calm. How am I supposed to remain calm when my baby is coming early? Is he going to be okay?
"He's early Shawn. Is he going to be okay?" I asked.
"Everything's going to be fine darling. Just breathe." Shawn said, but I could tell that he was nervous too. We soon arrived at the hospital. My mom was already there and she took Rose as Shawn and I went into a room.
"Okay, are we ready to have this baby?" Dr. Ackles said when she came in.
"Yes!" I said, squeezing Shawn's hand.
"Okay, start pushing." She said. I screamed as I pushed. I looked at Shawn.
"YOU DID THIS TO ME. IF YOUR SPERM HADN'T HAD FUN THEN I WOULDN'T BE IN THIS PAIN." I yelled. Shawn kissed my forehead.
"Baby, he was planned. Just keep pushing, he'll be here soon enough." Shawn said. I nodded and kept pushing. For the next three hours, Shawn kept me slightly calm as I screamed as I pushed. Soon I heard a cry, and then the crying stopped. Shawn tried to look at the baby as he held my hand.
"Is he okay? Why did he stop crying?" I asked.
"We need to cut this cord." Dr. Ackles said.
"Is he okay? Please tell me he's okay." I asked and said. I heard a snip and then crying again.
"He's okay Mrs. Mendes." Dr. Ackles said. I released a breath that I didn't know I was holding. Shawn smiled at me. They soon cleaned off my son and put him on my chest. I cried tears of joy. "He had what's called a Zeppelin knot. It's when the cord is wrapped around the baby. That's why he stopped crying, but we cut it. Sorry dad." She said. I knew how much Shawn was looking forward to cutting the cord.
"It's okay. As long as he's okay, I'm happy." Shawn said.
"Do we have a name for this cute little man?" The nurse asked.
"Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes." Shawn said with pride. Shawn and I smiled as we looked down at our baby.
"Shawn look at him. He's beautiful." I said.
"He really is honey. He has your eyes and nose." Shawn said.
"Yeah but everything else is you." I pointed out. Shawn laughed. Jake, as we nicknamed him, yawned.
"Oh that was a big yawn buddy." Shawn cooed to Jake.
"Do you want to hold him?" I asked while looking at Shawn. Shawn nodded and gently took Jake, our little baby boy, out of my arms.
"Hi there Jakey. I'm your daddy. Remember me singing to you when you were in mommy's belly? I'm going to teach you how to play hockey, and how to be respectful to women, and everybody for that matter. I love you so much buddy. I wonder if mommy's tired." Shawn said. I nodded.
"I am but I want to introduce him to his grandparents and sister first before I go to sleep." I said. Shawn nodded and gave Jake to me as he grabbed our parents.
"Guys, this is Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes. Jake, these are your grandparents and big sister." Shawn said, now holding Jake. I started to cry.
"What's wrong Y/n?" My mom asked.
"I'm just really happy. I have such an amazing little family." I said. Shawn handed Jake off to my mom, walked over to me, and kissed my forehead.
"You did great babe. We have such a beautiful family." Shawn said. I smiled at him.
"I love you Shawn." I said.
"I love you too Y/n." Shawn said.
"Can I hold him please?" I asked. Karen, who was holding Jake, nodded and gave him to me.
"He's so beautiful." I said. Mine and Shawn's parents nodded. "Rosie, come here sweetie." I requested. Shawn picked her up, sat down on the bed, and put Rose on his lap.
"This is your baby brother." Shawn said.
"Bubba." Rose said. Everyone, except for Jake and Rose of course, laughed.
"His name is Jake. Be very careful with him, okay?" Shawn requested. We all watched as she leaned over and patted his head.
"Awww." I cooed, crying again. Damn these hormones.
"Why don't we let mommy get some rest?" Shawn asked Rose. She looked at him and nodded.
"Okay daddy." She said. He smiled. Shawn gave Rose to Manny and the grandparents and Rose walked out of the room.
"Do you want to hold him while I rest?" I asked Shawn. He nodded.
"I would love to. You did so great babe. I'm so proud of you." Shawn said. I smiled as he kissed my forehead.
"Thank you. I love you Shawn, I love you Jake." I said.
"We love you too darling. Get some rest, you earned it." Shawn said. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
Shawn's point of view
My wife just fell asleep while I held our son, Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes. Him and his sister, Rose, are the lights of mine and my wife's lives. Jake had fallen asleep too, but I didn't want to sleep. I wanted to watch my first son. I don't know if I'll have anymore sons. I hope that if we have anymore kids, we have another girl. Rose is a big Daddy's girl and I love it. I suddenly got an idea, and called up Josiah, my photographer.
"Hello?" Josiah asked.
"Hey man, I have a favor to ask." I said.
"Yeah what's up?" He asked.
"If it's okay with Y/n, I would like to do a photoshoot with the kids. Do you think that you could make that happen?" I asked.
"Yeah, of course, I would love to. But the little one isn't due for another month, right?" Josiah asked.
"He decided to come early, so I'm holding him right now. He's beautiful." I said with a smile.
"Congratulations! I can't wait to meet him." Josiah said.
"Thank you man. Alright I'm going to go stare at this little guy some more, talk to you later man." I said.
"Bye." Josiah said, and we hung up. After a couple of hours, the nurse took Jake to the nursery and I went with him and made sure that one of the grandparents stayed with him. We don't want a mix up. Don't want to take the wrong kid home. I went back to the room and my wife soon stirred. She looked around and noticed that Jake wasn't there.
"He's in the nursery, the grandparents are with him." I said, already knowing where her thoughts were going.
"Oh thank God." She said.
"Hey darling?" I asked as I walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. She gently grabbed my hand and held it. I felt sparks shoot through me, but I felt safe and warm at the same time.
"Yes my love?" She asked.
"What do you think about doing a photoshoot with the kids? Josiah would take them and I've already talked to him and he can do it." I asked and said.
"Shawn he was just born." My wife said with a giggle. I smiled.
"I know but maybe when he's, like, a month old or something." I said. She nodded.
"Okay." She said while smiling that gorgeous smile at me. I kissed her forehead.
"I love you so much." I said.
"I love you more." She said.
"No way babe." I said with a laugh.
"This could go on forever." She said with a laugh. My heart fluttered.
"It could. God you give me insane feelings. Thanks for being my baby momma." I said. My wife laughed.
"Thanks for being my baby daddy. Sorry I yelled at you when I was in labor." She said with a frown.
"Hey, baby girl, it's okay. I know that that was just the labor pain talking. Okay?" I said and asked. She nodded. "Do you think we'll have anymore kids?" I asked. She laughed.
"I just pushed one kid out my who-ha, I'm not pushing another one out for a couple more years." She said.
"Okay. Who-ha?" I asked with a laugh.
"Yeah, you know, my lady parts." She said. I laughed again.
"You're funny." I said.
"You're amazing." She said. I smiled and gave her a gentle and soft kiss on the lips, then on the nose, then on her forehead.
"I love you." I said again.
"I love you too." She said.
"Get some more rest babe. Want me to lay with you?" I asked. She nodded and I laid in the bed with her. "I should probably post something announcing his arrival." I said.
"We'll do that tomorrow. For now, we'll relax." She said, but soon the grandparents walked in with Rose and Jake.
"Everything okay?" I asked. They nodded.
"Yeah just thought that you should know that Rose can say her brother's name." Y/d/n, Y/n's dad, said. Y/n and I high fived Rose and gave her hugs and kisses.
"Good job Rosie girl!" I said.
"I'm so proud of you!" My wife said. Soon the two kids were in the hospital bed with us and my parents were taking pictures.
"Can you send those to me please?" I asked.
"Sure." My dad said.
"Wait, get one of Jake holding onto my finger." I requested. My dad took it. The next day I posted that picture with a caption that read:
"Yesterday, at 3:53 pm, Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes was born. He was a little early, but he weighed a whopping seven pounds even. Mom and baby are well. Rose already adores 'Bubba' as she calls him. I'm a proud husband and daddy." I wrote.
When she got a chance, Y/n liked it. We soon went home and, after a month, took beautiful pictures with our kids. (A/n: one of the pictures is above.) I love my little family so much.
