199. Growing Up
A/n: thank you very much to @princessmuffin21 for giving me this idea! Okay, please enjoy the LAST IMAGINE IN THIS BOOK! Okay, let's begin!
Rose Mendes's point of view
"So, um, I'll text you." Jack Winchester said to me. I smiled and nodded.
"Okay. Cool." I said, and we went our separate ways. I'm a senior in high school and I've never had a boyfriend. As I headed out to my car, my phone went off.
Unknown: Hey, it's Jack. So do you want to hang out today?
Me: Yeah, sure.
Jack Winchester: All right, it's a date :)
Oh my gosh. I'm going on a date with the Jack Winchester. The most popular boy in my grade. I drove home and went inside. My dad, the legendary singer and Shawn Mendes, was sitting on the couch. But smiled and came over to give me a hug when he saw me. I felt nervous about telling him that I have a date today. He's always been super protective of me and, according to him, I can't date until I'm thirty, maybe even forty.
"Hey sweet pea. How was school today?" Daddy asked. I faked a smile.
"Good." I said, which was the truth. Daddy frowned.
"Then why did you just fake a smile at me?" He asked. I sighed.
"When will Mom be home?" I asked. He looked at his watch.
"Any minute now. Is everything okay?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. I just want to talk to her about something." I said. He nodded and I went upstairs to work on homework. Soon, there was a knock at my bedroom door. "Come in!" I said, and my mom walked in.
"Hey honey. Is everything okay? Your dad is worried." She asked and said. I sighed.
"A boy that I really, really like asked me out on a date today and I said yes and when Daddy finds out he's going to flip." I said. My mom sighed.
"I'll be there to keep him calm. I know how to." She said. I nodded.
"Okay. Can we go talk to him now please?" I asked. She nodded and we went downstairs. Daddy looked at me.
"Is everything okay?" He asked. I sat on one side of him and Mom sat on the other.
"I have to tell you something but you can't flip out, okay?" I asked. He nodded.
"Okay." He said.
"A boy asked me out on a date today and I said yes." I said. Daddy stood up.
"WHAT?" He asked. My eyes widened.
"Shawn, relax at least a little." Mom said.
"I want to meet this boy." Dad said. I groaned.
"Daddy, please just let me live my life. I'm seventeen years old." I said.
"Rose Lucille Mendes, I want to meet this boy." He said. I sighed.
"Fine. I'll text him and tell him to come inside when he gets here. He's taking me bowling." I said. My parents nodded. A bit later, Jack rang the doorbell.
"I'll get it." Daddy said. I looked at mom. She sighed and then leaned over to me.
"He just wants to protect you." She whispered.
"He just wants to ruin my life." I whispered back.
"Stop, you know that's not true." She said.
"Hi I'm Jack Winchester." Jack said when my dad opened the door.
"Hi. I'm Shawn Mendes, Rose's father. You can call me Mr. Mendes." Daddy said and I saw Jack gulp. Daddy interrogated him a little, and then Jack and I left. I hope mom can get Daddy to calm down.
Your point of view
Shawn walked back into the living room after Rose and her date, Jack, left. He sat on the couch and put his head in his hands. I put my hand on his back and started to rub his back. He didn't even look up.
"Talk to me Shawn. Tell me what's going through your head." I said. Shawn picked his head up and looked at me.
"I'm going to lose her." He said.
"What? What are you talking about?" I asked.
"That kid is going to take her away from me. I'm going to lose my daughter. She's literally my world. I can't lose her." Shawn said, and I could tell that his anxiety was kicking in.
"Sit back on the couch, I'm going to grab you a water." I said.
"Okay." He said. He sat back and I grabbed him a cold bottle of water. I then walked over and gave it to him as I straddled his lap.
"Take a few small sips for me please." I said. After eighteen years of marriage, and twenty two years of being together, I know how to help Shawn's anxiety. Shawn took a few small sips.
"My anxiety babe." He said. I nodded and started to run my fingers through his hair.
"I know honey, I know. Can you take a deep breath in for me, then hold it, then let it out please?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah." He said. After doing that a few times while I raked my fingers through his hair, he seemed to be calming down a bit.
"Good job babe. Remember what I always have you do next when you get anxious?" I asked. He nodded.
"You have me go to my happy place." He said. I smiled and nodded.
"And what's your happy place?" I asked even though I knew what it was - well, more like what they were since there's more than one. Shawn closed his eyes so he could picture it.
"The first one is our wedding, specifically our first dance. Ed Sheeran got up on stage and sang Thinking Out Loud. The second one is Rose's birth, when I held her for the first time. The third one is Jake's birth, when I held him for the first time, and the last one is Sarah Grace's birth, when I held her for the first time." Shawn said. Talking about his happy places had helped him a little bit, but I knew, as someone who has a degree in psychology and is a counselor, that I needed him to relax a bit more. I nodded at what he said.
"Tell me more about our first dance." I said.
"Baby you were there, of course." He said.
"I know, but maybe talking about one of your happy places more will help your anxiety." I said. He nodded and put the water down so he could put his hands on my waist and hold me. I kept my fingers in his hair and his eyes were still closed.
"I kept whispering to you how beautiful you looked and that made you blush. You kept saying how handsome I looked, which made me blush. We're both terrible dancers so we kind of just swayed around the dancefloor. I kept twirling you which made you smile and laugh. I also kept telling you that I'm the luckiest man alive and that that day was the best day of my life. At the end of the song, I dipped you and you loved that." Shawn said, and by now he had a smile on his face and was more relaxed. I kissed his nose and he opened his eyes.
"Good job babe. I can tell that you're more relaxed. I'm proud of you." I said with a smile. His smile widened.
"Thank you." Shawn said.
"You're welcome, now, your daughter loves you more than anything in this world. No one and nothing in this whole entire world will ever take her away from you. She won't let that happen and I know that you won't either. Okay baby?" I asked. He nodded.
"Okay. Thank you for making me feel better." Shawn said. I smiled softly.
"Oh Shawny, I didn't do that. That was all you. I just assisted." I said. Shawn smiled at me and then puckered up his lips and closed his eyes. I giggled but still put my lips on his. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks, and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach. Shawn and I soon pulled away and smiled at each other.
"You know, we're home alone and none of the kids will be home for a bit." Shawn said with a smirk. I jumped off of his lap and we ran upstairs. After we made love, we laid in bed and cuddled.
"That was great. I've missed that." I said. Shawn nodded and rubbed my arm.
"It was great and I've missed that too. We should probably get dressed in case the kids come home soon." Shawn said. I nodded but gave him a kiss first before I got up. Well, the kiss turned into making love again, but then we got dressed and went downstairs.
"I think that you should talk to Rose when she gets home." I said. Shawn nodded as we sat on the couch and cuddled up to each other. Soon, Rose came home and we saw her wave goodbye to Jack.
"Hey Rosie." Shawn said.
"Hi Mom, hi Daddy." She said.
"Can we talk?" Shawn asked. Rose nodded and they went upstairs to her room to talk.
Rose's point of view
"What's up Dad?" I asked as he shut the door and we sat on my bed. My dad sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
"You're my little Rosie girl. You're my first born. I love you, your siblings, and your mother, more than anything in this whole entire world. When I found out that your mom was pregnant with you, I made a promise to myself to always protect you as best as I could. There was one day when you were little that I was trying to protect you, but I ended up scaring you." He said. I could tell he was about to speak again but I had a question.
"What do you mean?" I asked. He sighed.
"There was one day when you were about two and a half when you, your mom and I all went to a park. The paps found us and one of them grabbed your arm, so I screamed at him and it scared you." He said. I nodded.
"Oh. I don't remember that." I said. He nodded.
"Good. Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I love you so damn much, and I'm scared that this Jack kid is going to take you away from me and I'm going to lose you." Daddy said, and my heart broke. I hugged him and he held me tight.
"Daddy, you will never, ever, ever lose me. You'll always be my main man. I love you too Daddy." I said. My dad nodded and I heard him sniffle.
"Sorry that I'm crying kiddo, I just really love you and sometimes it gets a little overwhelming." He said. I smiled a little.
"It's okay." I said. I then pulled away from the hug and my dad wiped his tears away. "So what did you and Mom do while I was gone?" I asked. My dad's face then turned bright red and he smirked as he looked away a little. "EWW!" I yelled, and my mom came running upstairs.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"I asked Daddy what you guys did while I was gone and he smirked and his face turned red so I kind of connected the dots and now I'm traumatized." I said. My mom covered her face with her hands. This made my dad chuckle as he stood up and wrapped his arms around my mom.
"Sorry Rose." Dad said.
"It's okay. But I might puke." I said. My mom pulled away from my dad a little.
"You'll understand when you're older and married." She said. I nodded.
"Actually Mom, can I talk to you please?" I asked. She nodded and my dad left the room after he whispered something in her ear. I didn't hear it, I just know that my mom blushed and lightly smacked his arm and he laughed.
"What's up honey?" She asked.
"Jack kissed me." I blurted out. Her eyes widened.
"Are you guys going to go on another date?" She asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Yeah." I said. She nodded and we talked a bit more. Soon, Jack and I started dating, which caused my father to interrogate him more, and Jack even decided to go to the same college.
Your point of view
It's been five years since my husband, Shawn Mendes, got very anxious after finding out that his eldest daughter was going on her first ever date. Today, Jack, Rose's boyfriend, wants to come over and talk to Shawn and I. Shawn and I have come to love Jack and he's definitely part of the family. The doorbell rang and when I opened it, it was Jack.
"Jack, you know that you can just come right in." I said as I gave him a hug he nodded.
"Are you okay Jack? You seem nervous." Shawn asked and said. Jack sighed.
"I love your daughter more than anything in this world, and I would love to spend the rest of my life with her. Would it be okay if I asked for your daughter's hand in marriage?" Jack asked. I smiled and looked at Shawn, who was also smiling. He looked at me and we looked at Jack and nodded.
"Of course. We adore you." Shawn said and I nodded.
"Oh thank God. I don't know what I would have done if you guys had said no." Jack said. Shawn laughed.
"I think those were my exact words when Y/n's parents said yes after I asked them for Y/n's hand in marriage." Shawn said and Jack smiled. A week later we got a Facetime call from Rose. I answered and she was with Jack, in Maine.
"Hey Mom. Where's Dad?" She asked.
"I'll go get him." I said, and left the room. Shawn soon came back to my phone with me.
"Hey sweet pea, hey Jack." Shawn said.
"Hey. We have announcement." Rose said, and I could tell that she was a little nervous for whatever it was. Maybe Jack proposed?
"What is it?" Shawn asked. Rose lifted up her hand and showed us a ring.
"We're engaged!" She said. I screamed with happiness and tears formed in Shawn's eyes as he smiled at her.
"Congratulations sweet pea. We're so happy for you." Shawn said and I nodded as I wiped tears away. They thanked us and we soon hung up. Shawn turned to me and hugged me.
Rose's point of view
I had just finished getting into my wedding dress when there was a knock at the door.
"Rose, Daddy is here." My maid of honor and sister, Sarah Mendes said. He walked over to me and started to cry.
"Don't cry Daddy, you're going to make me cry." I said.
"Sorry, you just look so beautiful." Daddy said. I smiled and hugged him.
"It's okay." I said.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked. I nodded and took a deep breath.
"Yup." I said. He nodded and then paused before looking at the other people in the room.
"Could I have a moment alone with Rose please?" He asked.
"Sure." Everyone said, and they left. My dad pointed at the chairs near us.
"Is it going to mess up your dress if you sit down for a minute?" He asked. I shook my head.
"No." I said. We sat down.
"I just wanted to say that I love you so much honey, I really do. I've loved you from the moment that I found out about you, and that's never going to change. I know that I'm technically giving you away today but you're my little girl, no matter how old you are, and you always will be my little girl. I'm always going to be here for you. I love you so much honey and I'm so proud of the woman that you've become." Daddy said. I held back tears.
"Thank you Daddy. I love you too. I'll always be your Rosie girl." I said and I could tell that my dad was holding back tears as he smiled at me.
"Don't forget about our last dance." He said as we stood up. I laughed.
"I won't." I said. I then went and got married. At the reception, Daddy and I danced to The Girl You Think I Am by Carrie Underwood. At the end of the dance, my dad gave me a hug.
"I love you sweet pea." He said. I hugged him tightly.
"I love you too Daddy." I said. The whole day was amazing. Even though I'm married to Jack now, and he's my prince charming, my Dad will always be my king.
