183. Wedding Dress Shopping
A/n: Okay so I know that May twenty third is coming up, but let's pretend that this is in the future. I hope that you guys enjoy this imagine. Okay, let's begin!
My fiancé, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, and I, recently set a date for our wedding. We decided to have it on May twenty third of next year. I heard that once your wedding is a year away, you're supposed to set a budget for your dress and do research. I had seen the show Say Yes To The Dress which takes place at a wedding dress store called Kleinfeld Bridal. It's in Manhattan and I really want to go there to get my dress. But first, I need to talk to Shawn about the budget for the dress.
I had been on my laptop at the dining room table, doing research when I decided to bring up the subject of the budget to Shawn. I stood up and walked into the living room where Shawn was sitting on the couch, watching television. He smiled at me when he saw me walk into the room.
"Hey there darling. Come sit with me." He requested. I smiled as I sat down next to him. I guess that this wasn't good enough for him because he then pulled me over so I was sitting on his lap. I giggled, causing Shawn's smile to widen.
"Hi baby." I said as I ran my fingers through his hair as he began to rub my back.
"What have you been doing?" He asked.
"Looking at wedding stuff. I actually wanted to talk to you about something that has to do with the wedding." I said nervously.
"I can already tell that you're nervous and there's no need to be babe. You can talk to me about anything, you know that. What's up my love?" Shawn asked. While one hand was in his hair, I took my other hand and held his free hand. I sighed.
"Um, for my wedding dress, what exactly is my budget?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment before shrugging.
"You don't have one." He said. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped.
"What?" I asked.
"You don't have a budget. I don't care how much the dress costs, I just want to see you happy. When you go dress shopping, take my credit card and buy it with that." Shawn said.
"Are you sure?" I asked. Shawn laughed and nodded.
"I'm positive baby girl. You're going to look beautiful no matter what you wear." Shawn said. I blushed.
"Thank you so much Shawny. I love you." I said. Shawn smiled at me.
"You're welcome Y/n. I love you too." Shawn said. I put my lips on his and immediately felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Shawn and I pulled away and smiled at each other. I can't wait to marry Shawn.
Next, I had to decide who to bring with me when I go to buy my dress. Obviously I don't want Shawn there because it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride in the dress before the wedding. I called my mom and she said yes to coming, obviously, and so did my soon to be mother-in-law, Karen Mendes, one of my bridesmaids and soon to be sister-in-law, Aaliyah Mendes, and my best friend and maid of honor, Grace. Soon, we had an appointment set up at Kleinfeld's and I was so excited!
"Hello, how are you guys today?" A woman, Kelly, asked my mom, Karen, Aaliyah, Grace and I when we got to our appointment.
"Good. How are you?" We said and asked.
"I'm good. Are you the bride?" Kelly asked me. I nodded.
"Yes I am." I said.
"Okay. And your name is Y/n, right?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yes." I said.
"Well, I'm Kelly. Who did you bring with you today?" She asked and I introduced her to everyone. She clapped her hands together. "Wonderful, well, I'm going to bring you guys over to a couch, and I'm going to bring Y/n into a dressing room, okay?"
"Okay." We all said. I felt so nervous. What if I don't find my wedding dress today? I was soon taken into a room.
"So, Y/n, tell me about your fiancé." Kelly requested. I instantly started to smile at the mere mention of Shawn's name.
"His name is Shawn Mendes. He's a singer. I was, and still am of course, a big fan of his, so I went to see him in concert, and the next day I went to a coffee shop in Boston. So I got my order, I turn around, and he was standing there, already looking at me, and it was definitely love at first sight. We started dating not too long after that and then four years into the relationship he proposed, and of course I said yes. I'm so beyond in love with him. He's my best friend, my rock, my protector, my everything." I said. Kelly smiled.
"It sounds like you really love him." Kelly said. I blushed and nodded.
"Oh definitely. He's the love of my life and I don't know what I would do without him. He's always there for me and I just love and adore him so much." I said. Kelly leaned forward a little.
"Can I tell you a secret?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said.
"My daughters are big fans of his." She said. I laughed and smiled.
"Oh that's so nice! I'll have to tell him." I said. She smiled.
"So, what's the budget?" She asked.
"Shawn said that I don't have a budget. He just wants to see me happy." I said. Kelly clapped her hands together and then rubbed them together.
"Oh good! Well that gives us more options. So when are you guys getting married?" She asked.
"May twenty third." I said with a smile.
"Okay, good. So, what do you have in mind for dresses?" She asked. I then showed her pictures of dresses that I had found on Pinterest.
"I mean, I really like all of them, but I just absolutely love this one." I said as I pointed at a dress with spaghetti straps and a floral print. She nodded and said that she would go look for some dresses. Soon there was a knock on the door and Randy came in. Randy is always on Say Yes To The Dress and he's an independent consultant - or something like that.
"Hello there my dear. I heard that we have the fiancé of a famous singer in here?" Randy asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Yes. I've seen the show and it's nice to meet you!" I said. Randy laughed.
"It's nice to meet you too! I have some dresses here, what do you think of them?" He asked as he hung them up on a hook. I pointed at one of them.
"I definitely don't want this one. I just don't like the color. I want a white dress." I said. Randy nodded and took that dress away.
"Okay. Well I'll put this one away. Which one do you want to try on first?" He said and asked. I thought for a moment before pointing at one of them.
"That one." I said.
"Alright, I'll put this away and Kelly will help you get into that one, okay?" He asked. I smiled at him.
"Okay. Thank you so much." I said.
"No problem." He said with a smile, and walked out while carrying that one dress that I didn't like. I put on the first dress and couldn't decided how I felt about it.
"How are you feeling about this one?" Kelly asked.
"Um, it seems a bit too blingy for me." I said. She nodded.
"Do you want to show it to your group and then see how you feel?" She asked. I nodded and we headed out to them. I looked at myself in the mirror before Kelly had me turn around. Aaliyah made a face.
"How do you feel about it Y/n? You seem quiet." My mom asked and said. I looked down at it.
"I mean, I like it but I think it has a bit too much bling on it for me." I said.
"Okay, let's go try another one on." Kelly said. We went back into the room and I put on another dress. It was a ballroom gown and I kind of liked it. I went out to show everyone.
"What do you guys think?" I asked.
"I like it but at the same time it seems very puffed out." Grace said. I nodded.
"Yeah. I do like it, I'm just not in love with it." I said.
"Okay. Well let's go try on another one." Kelly said. Everyone nodded and I was taken back into the dressing room. Kelly put me in a dress that had a lace floral pattern and spaghetti straps (pictured above!). It was beautiful.
"Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh." I said.
"Is that a good oh my gosh or a bad oh my gosh?" Kelly asked.
"This is a very good oh my gosh. This one is just like I pictured. It's beautiful." I said.
"I thought that you might like it. It's pretty similar to the picture that you showed me." Kelly said. I nodded. I was then brought out to show everyone the dress. I really, really, really hope that they like this one. When my mom and Karen saw me, they started to cry. I smiled at myself in the mirror and then turned around to show them.
"What do you guys think?" I asked nervously.
"You look gorgeous!" Grace said.
"You look absolutely stunning." Aaliyah said as Randy walked over.
"Mom? Karen? What do you guys think?" I asked nervously.
"I'm sorry, I'm too busy crying to answer your question. You just... you look amazing." My mom said.
"I agree. You look wonderful, like a princess." Karen said. I smiled.
"Okay, so, Y/n, how do you feel about the dress?" Randy asked. I smiled.
"I love it!" I said.
"Could you picture yourself walking down the aisle in this dress?" Randy asked. I nodded and smiled.
"Yes, definitely!" I said. Everyone smiled.
"So, Y/n, are you saying yes to the dress?" Randy asked. I nodded.
"Yes! I'm saying yes to the dress!" I said and everyone cheered.
"Oh I'll be right back!" Randy said. He soon came back with a veil and helped to put it on me. I looked in the mirror and started to cry a little.
"Oh my gosh. I love it." I said. Everyone smiled.
"Did you just become even more excited for your wedding?" Randy asked. I nodded.
"Yes, definitely." I said.
"What do you love more, Shawn or the dress?" Randy asked teasingly, causing us all to laugh.
"Shawn! I love this dress a lot but I love Shawn more." I said with a laugh.
"Well I'm glad that you love the dress." Randy said. I nodded.
"Oh! I almost forgot to ask, how much is the dress?" I asked. Randy checked.
"It's three thousand dollars." Randy said. I nodded and then looked at everyone.
"Shawn said that I don't have a budget, so we're good." I said. Everyone smiled and I bought the dress and a veil with Shawn's credit card that he had given me for the day. I would have to come back for fittings in a few months, but I was just so happy that I got my wedding dress. Everyone got in the car and we started to drive back to Boston. I pulled out my phone and called Shawn.
"Hey there my future wifey. How did wedding dress shopping go?" Shawn asked when he picked up. Everyone stayed silent so I could talk to Shawn.
"I found the most perfect dress Shawn. When she started to put it on me, I was like 'oh my gosh. Oh my gosh.' and then your mom and my mom cried when they saw me in it and everyone loves it." I said.
"Good. I'm glad that you found the dress that you want. So I take it you're happy?" Shawn said and asked.
"I'm very happy! It ended up being a little over three thousand dollars because I got a veil too. Is that okay? I used your credit card like you told me to." I asked and said.
"That's perfectly fine my love. Did they show you any that you immediately didn't want?" Shawn asked. I nodded even though he couldn't see me.
"Yeah. It was like, pinkish. I told them that I didn't want a pink dress, I wanted a white dress, so they took that one away. I'm excited for you to see it." I said with a smile.
"I'm excited to see it too baby girl. But not until May twenty third! Don't try to show me a picture of it!" Shawn said. I laughed.
"Hey, so at one point, Randy, the guy from Say Yes To The Dress, was helping and he was like 'What do you love more, Shawn or the dress?' and I told him that I love the dress but I definitely love you more." I said. Shawn laughed.
"Well considering the fact that we're going to get married, I hope you love me a lot!" Shawn said. I laughed. I yawned.
"I'm tired." I said.
"Who's driving?" Shawn asked.
"Your mom is driving." I said.
"Okay. Well, rest your head back and close your eyes. I'll see you guys when you get home, okay baby?" Shawn asked. I yawned again.
"Okay. Oh, the lady that was helping me, her daughters are fans of yours." I said. Shawn laughed.
"Good. All right my princess, rest your eyes." Shawn said.
"Okay. I love you Shawn Mendes." I said.
"I love you too Y/n Y/l/n, soon to be Y/n Mendes." Shawn said, causing me to smile.
"Bye honey." I said.
"Bye babe." Shawn said, and we hung up.
"I'm tired, I'm going to see if I can get some rest." I said.
"Okay. You really did look like a princess by the way." Karen said. I smiled.
"Thank you. I just hope that Shawn likes the dress." I said, suddenly feeling nervous.
"Oh honey, he's going to love the dress." My mom said. I nodded as I looked out the window.
"Yeah, and didn't you once tell me that he said that you could wear something with holes all over it and you would still look gorgeous?" Grace asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. He's said that more than once." I said.
"See? He's going to love it. Now, close your eyes and rest." My mom said. I yawned, nodded, and closed my eyes. But here's the thing: I can't fall asleep during car rides. So for the next roughly four hours, I didn't get a single wink of sleep. Eventually, we pulled into mine and Shawn's driveway. I sleepily walked inside, and Shawn stood up when he saw us.
"Hello my love. How was the drive?" Shawn said and asked. I walked over to him and hugged him. I get emotional when I'm tired, so I started to cry.
"Long and I couldn't fall asleep." I said. Everyone was standing in the living room with us. He told them that we would be right back and then he brought me into the dining room which is on the other side of the house.
"Why are you crying honey? Is it because you get emotional when you get tired?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. Plus, I missed you and what if you don't like the dress?" I asked. Shawn pulled me in for a hug.
"Oh baby, I missed you too and don't worry about that. I know that I'm going to love the dress. I can feel it. Plus, you could be wearing something with holes all over it and you would still look gorgeous, beautiful, stunning, every nice word ever. Okay?" Shawn asked. I slowly stopped crying and nodded.
"Okay. I didn't even get a wink of sleep during that car ride." I said. Shawn frowned.
"Well, it's nighttime now, so why don't I carry you to bed and I'll be up in a little bit, okay?" Shawn asked.
"Okay, but you don't have to carry me." I said. Shawn chuckled.
"No I don't have to, but I want to. Come here." Shawn said as he picked me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms went around his shoulders as he carried me up the stairs. He then set me down on the floor, pulled back the blankets, and I got into bed.
"Will you show Aaliyah and Karen to their rooms since they're staying here please?" I asked.
"Of course baby." Shawn said.
"And will you thank them all for me and tell them that I love them?" I asked. Shawn chuckled.
"Yes, I will. Now rest honey." Shawn said.
"Okay. Wait, how long until you're in bed?" I asked.
"I'm just going to say goodbye to your mom and Grace and then show mum and Aaliyah their rooms and then I'll be in. But don't try to wait up for me!" Shawn said, knowing me very well. I giggled.
"Okay. I love you Shawny. Good night." I said.
"I love you too. Good night." He said before turning off the light and leaving the room. As soon as he left the room, I sat up. I know that he had just told me not to wait up for him, but I missed him a lot today.
Shawn's point of view
I went downstairs and saw everyone sitting on the couch. They smiled when they saw me.
"She's really tired, but she wanted to thank you guys and she says that she loves you guys." I said. They all smiled.
"Well she's very welcome and we love her too." Y/m/n, my soon to be mother-in-law said. I smiled.
"Well, we should get going. Y/m/n, I'll drop you off at your house and then I'll head home." Grace said. I said goodbye to them and then brought my mum and Aaliyah upstairs to their rooms. I then went into mine and Y/n's bedroom and saw that she was sitting up.
"Baby, I told you not to wait up for me." I said as I got into bed. We both laid down and she put her head on my chest just like she does every night. I wrapped my arms around her.
"I know, but I just missed you so much today." She said and I could tell just by the sound of her voice that she was very tired. I kissed the top of her head and she hummed.
"I missed you too baby. Good night honey. I love you." I said.
"Good night. I love you too Shawny." She said. I smiled at the nickname and held her nice and close to me.
On May twenty third, I cried happy tears and smiled as I saw Y/n walk down the aisle in the most beautiful dress that I had ever seen. She looked so damn gorgeous. Y/n and I soon said our vows, kissed, and became husband and wife. At the place where the reception was, there was a balcony, and Y/n and I went out there to have a few moments alone.
"So do you like the dress?" She asked nervously.
"This is the most beautiful dress I've ever seen. You look like princess my love. Did you see me up there crying?" I asked with a chuckle. Y/n laughed and nodded.
"Yeah. I'm so glad that you like it." She said as she wrapped her arms around my torso and I wrapped my arms around her shoulders.
"Like it? I love it!" I said with a smile, and Y/n smiled too.
"Shawn?" She asked.
"Yes honey?" I asked as I swayed us from side to side.
"We're husband and wife now. We're married." She said with a humongous smile on her face, and I returned it by putting on a humongous smile too.
"We are. I love you Mrs. Mendes." I said.
"I love you too Mr. Mendes." She said. We stayed out on the balcony for a little bit before going back inside. How lucky am I to be married to the most gorgeous girl in the world? I'm the luckiest guy ever.
