My boyfriend of three years, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, moved to America for me about a year ago. I told him that I would have gladly moved to Toronto for him but he insisted that he move to Boston if we were going to move in together because he didn't want to disrupt my schooling and me getting my dream job. Shawn kept his condo in Toronto until we bought a house in Boston. Not an apartment, not a condo, we bought a house. One that we can raise a family in, causing me to be very happy.

Today Shawn and I are flying up to Toronto to visit his family. Not just his parents, Karen and Manny, and his sister Aaliyah, but also his cousins, aunts, and uncles. I've met them all before, so I'm not nervous. Shawn and I finally got to the airport in Toronto, and of course there were fans there. Shawn sighed when he saw them but then smiled. He had been itching to see his family.

"I'm going to go take pictures with the fans, do you want to come with me?" Shawn whispered in my ear. I shook my head. The large group of fans was making me a little anxious and I was itching to see Shawn's family, my second family, just like Shawn was.

"No, I'll just stay right here." I said. Shawn nodded and kissed my cheek before walking over to his fans. His security team went with him, leaving me alone. Oh well. Soon after she took a picture with Shawn, a random fan came up to me. She looked upset.

"Hi Y/n. I just wanted to come over and say that I hate you." She said. I raised my eyebrows.

"Excuse me?" I asked.

"It used to be that whenever Shawn would come home, we could meet him here at the airport. But now? Now he flys home to Boston and we barely see him anymore." She said.

"Not that I owe you, or anyone for that matter, any explanation, but when Shawn and I decided to move in together I told him that I would gladly and happily move up to Toronto for him, but he said that he didn't want to disrupt my schooling or anything. That's why he moved down to Boston." I said. She scoffed.

"Did you know that you're not right for Shawn?" She asked.

"Obviously you don't know us because literally everyone that's around us always says that we were made for each other and that we're perfect for each other. He says that I make him happy." I said.

"He's probably lying to you." She said.

"Shawn would never lie to me." I said. She rolled her eyes and then looked me up and down.

"I don't understand what he sees in you. You're literally so fat and ugly. Shawn deserves someone better than you. Maybe even me." She said.

"Why would Shawn want to go out with someone who is currently being rude to his girlfriend?" I asked, throwing my arms up a little.

"Because someday he'll see the real you, and he'll stop loving you, and then he'll leave you." She said with a shrug and a smirk. The possibility that Shawn could ever stop loving me and leave me is my biggest fear, so her saying that really bothered me.

"He's seen the real me. He knows how I am and he loves me no matter what." I said. My anxiety was really high at this point. The girl then stepped on my foot, hard enough for it to be a little painful. I tried to move my foot but she had so much pressure on it that I couldn't pull it away.

"You're such a naive and stupid bitch." She said as she twisted her foot a little, causing more pain.

"Please take your foot off of my foot and please don't talk to me like that." I said. She laughed.

"You're crazy if you think that I'm going to stop. You took Shawn away from his fans, but the bigger thing is that you took Shawn away from his family." She said. To be honest, I had sometimes felt like I had taken Shawn away from his family but I had never brought it up with him because I didn't want him to get upset. I looked over at Shawn and we quickly made eye contact. I think that he could see the look of panic on my face because he started to walk towards me. I turned back to the girl, and just as I did, she punched me right across the face. I stumbled back a little but luckily Shawn had rushed over to me and caught me.

"WHY THE HELL DID YOU JUST PUNCH MY GIRLFRIEND?" Shawn yelled at the girl. My face was hurting - she was a strong girl, I'll give her that much.

"She's such a bitch." The girl said. Shawn kept one hand on my shoulder but pointed his finger at the girl.

"Don't ever show up at the airport when I'm around ever again. I never want to see you ever again. Never lay a finger on my girlfriend ever again." Shawn said to the girl and then looked over at me. "Do you want to press charges babe?" He asked. I thought for a moment before shaking my head no.

"No. I just want to go back to your parent's house." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Oh look, Y/n being a big ole baby. And emphasis on the big by the way." The girl said.

"Hey, stop talking to my girlfriend like that." Shawn said. He then gently grabbed my hand and we rushed to the car. As soon as we got in the car, Shawn turned to his security team. "WHAT THE HELL GUYS? ONE OF YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH Y/N." Shawn yelled. I put my hand on the side of his face so he would look at me.

"It's okay, I'm okay." I said.

"No, it's not okay. Baby, your mouth is bleeding a little. When we get to my parent's house we'll get you a first aid kit, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Okay." I said. I didn't mention anything that happened between the girl and I. Right now, I just wanted to get to the Mendes household and talk to Karen. She's always been there for me. Soon, we pulled into the driveway of Shawn's childhood home. Karen, Manny, and Aaliyah met us outside.

"Hi guys! How are - oh my gosh Y/n are you okay?" Karen asked as she rushed over to me. I shook my head.

"No. Can I please talk to you?" I asked. Karen nodded and swiftly brought me inside and into a room where we would be alone.

"I'll help you with the luggage, son." Manny said. Shawn nodded.

"Okay." Shawn said as he gave me a worried look.

"So what happened?" She asked. I started to cry as I told her everything that was said.

"I'm so sorry that I took Shawn away from you guys. I'm so sorry." I said as I cried. Karen pulled me close to her since we were sitting next to each other.

"Oh honey, you didn't take him away from us at all. We still talk to him and stuff. You didn't take him away from us at all. And do you want to know why he moved all the way to Boston for you?" Karen asked.

"So my schooling wouldn't be disrupted and I could still work on getting my dream job." I said.

"Well that too. But there's another part to it. Do you know what it is?" She said and asked. I thought for a moment before shaking my head.

"No. What is it?" I asked. What Karen said next brought happy tears to my eyes.

"It's the fact that he loves you. I remember after you guys first met, he called his father and said 'I just met the most beautiful girl in the world and I'm pretty sure that she's the one that I want to spend the rest of my life with.' and as he got to know you more, he would talk to his father and I about you, and he always had a smile on his face whenever he talked about you. He still smiles when he talks about you. And when he sees you, his face always lights up and he smiles. He loves you Y/n, and he would do anything for you. Understand?" She asked. I wiped away tears as I nodded.

"I understand. Thank you, I needed that. He, um, he doesn't know that I feel like I took him away from you guys." I said.

"You've never told him?" Karen asked, looking surprised.

"No. I just don't want to upset him." I said. Karen gently pulled me in for a hug.

"Oh Y/n, you could never upset him. How about I get you cleaned up and then you tell him, okay?" She asked. I thought for a moment before nodding.

"Okay." I said. Karen told me to stay in the room and soon came back with a first aid kit. She cleaned up my lip and I thanked her.

"You're welcome. Shall I go grab Shawn for you?" She asked. I nodded.

"Yes please." I said. She nodded and left the room. Soon, Shawn came in and he immediately sat down next to me and hugged me. I, of course, hugged back.

"Baby, I am so sorry that I wasn't there for you today. I should've prevented the hit." He said. I shook my head.

"It's okay baby. Listen, the girl actually, um, she said stuff to me." I said as I realized that I should probably tell him everything that happened. Shawn tilted his head a little.

"What did she say?" Shawn asked, and I felt bad because he looked so concerned. I started to cry as I told him everything that was said. He pulled me in and held me as I cried and told him everything.

"Sorry I'm crying on you right now." I said as I pulled away.

"Hey, it's okay honey. You can cry on me whenever you want, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Okay." I said.

"I'm so sorry that my security team wasn't as good as usual. They should've stepped in or something. One of them should have stayed with you." Shawn said. I put my hand to his cheek so he would look me in the eyes. His face softened when our eyes met.

"It's okay. Also, there's another thing, and I feel really bad because we made that no secrets pact but there's a secret that I've been keeping from you." I said, looking down a little. Shawn ducked his head down a bit so our eyes would meet.

"What is it babe?" Shawn asked.

"I feel like, um, sorry I'm just nervous and I feel bad." I said. Shawn took my hands in his and shook his head.

"It's just me honey. No need to feel nervous or bad or anything." He said. That calmed me a little bit as I nodded and took a deep breath.

"I feel like, because you left Toronto and moved all the way to Boston for me, I feel like I took you away from your family." I said. Shawn's eyes widened and he gently but swiftly pulled me in for a hug.

"Oh honey, you in no way, shape, or form, took me away from my family. Baby girl, you are my family. The Mendes family, especially myself, all love you. And that includes my cousins and my aunt and uncles and everyone. But do you want to know something?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said. Shawn leaned over and whispered in my ear.

"I love you the most." He said. Him whispering in my ear sent shivers down my spine as I giggled. "See, there's the laugh that I love so much." Shawn said. I smiled at him.

"I love you. Thank you for moving to Boston for me." I said. Shawn kissed my forehead before he began to speak.

"I love you too darling and you're welcome. I would do absolutely anything for you." He said. I leaned on him in a comfortable silence for a little bit. His arms stayed wrapped around me, and as he held me, I knew that everything was going to be okay, as long as I had Shawn, the man that I love who also loves me.
