164. 20 Year Wedding Anniversary
I woke up to the feeling of someone shaking my side. I opened my eyes and saw that my husband, Shawn Mendes, was still asleep. When I turned around and looked, I saw that my fifteen year old daughter, Sarah Mendes, was smiling at me as her brother Jake and sister Rose stood next to her.
"Wake up Daddy." Sarah said. I nodded and looked at my beyond handsome husband. I put my hand on his bicep and shook him a little. When he finally opened his eyes and saw me, he smiled.
"Good morning gorgeous." He said, causing me to blush.
"Good morning handsome. Look who's in our room." I said as I turned my body a little so I was facing the kids more.
"Happy anniversary Mom and Dad!" All of the kids said.
"Aw, thank you." I said.
"Thank you my sweets." Shawn said. He then turned to me and smiled before kissing my cheek.
"We made you guys breakfast in bed." Jake said.
"Oh my gosh thank you guys!" I said as Shawn and I smiled. They handed us our trays of waffles.
"Once you guys are done eating, please come downstairs and into the living room." Rose said. Shawn and I nodded and the kids left the room.
"Hey, wait." Shawn said before I could take a bite of my food. I turned to him.
"What's up my amazing husband?" I asked. Shawn smiled at me.
"I just want to say that I love you so damn much and marrying you and having kids with you were the best decisions that I ever made. You're the love of my life honey. Happy anniversary my love." Shawn said. I smiled at him.
"I love you so damn much too. Marrying you and having your babies were the best decisions that I ever made too and you're the love of my life too. Happy anniversary Mr. Mendes." I said. Shawn smiled before puckering up his lips for a kiss. I giggled before putting my lips on his. As soon as our lips made contact with each other, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks, and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy. Shawn and I soon pulled away so we could eat our delicious breakfast.
When Shawn and I were done eating, we got dressed and went downstairs, where the kids were waiting for us.
"Here, come sit." Rose said to Shawn and I. We did as told. Mine and Shawn's son, Jake, began to speak. Shawn reached over and interlaced our fingers together and I put our hands in my lap.
"Twenty years ago today two of my favorite people got married to each other and my sisters and I could not be more grateful for that event. So, Rose, Sarah and I wanted to do something special for you guys. Tonight, the three of us will be sleeping over Meimei's house and you two will be going to the restaurant by the lake. We've already made the reservations for six o'clock tonight and you guys will have the whole entire restaurant to yourselves." Jake said. I looked at my kids with wide eyes and then at Shawn.
"Are you guys serious? We get the whole restaurant to ourselves?" Shawn asked in shock. The kids nodded.
"Yup. Do you guys like that or no?" Rose asked. I smiled as I looked at my husband.
"It sounds wonderful." I said. Shawn nodded and smiled at me before he kissed my forehead.
"There's one more thing. Sarah, would you like to go grab it?" Rose said and asked. Sarah nodded and ran upstairs. When she came back downstairs, she was carrying a beautiful white dress with a dark blue pattern. My eyes widened and I gasped.
"Oh my gosh. Is that for me to wear tonight?" I asked. The kids nodded and I smiled.
"Do you like it?" Sarah asked. I nodded as I stood up and took the dress in my hands.
"I love it, oh my gosh. It's beautiful. Thank you guys so much." I said.
"You're welcome. We're going to leave you guys alone for the rest of the day, but we also just want to say that we love you guys very, very, much." Rose said. I smiled at my kids and then at my husband.
"We love you guys too and we're so lucky to be your parents." Shawn said. I nodded and the kids left the room, leaving my husband and I alone. Shawn and I smiled at each other.
"Baby?" I asked. Shawn brushed a stray hair out of my face.
"Yes my dear?" He asked.
"Can I put my bony butt in your lap?" I asked. Shawn threw his head back with laughter and then nodded.
"Of course. Come here." Shawn said as I crawled into his lap. I rested my head against the side of his head and he wrapped his arms around my waist as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders.
"We're so lucky. Not only to have each other but also to have such amazing kids." I said. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah. You and the kids are best things to ever happen to me." Shawn said. I smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Same here babe. How is it possible that after twenty years of marriage and twenty-four years of being together, we're still so in love with each other?" I asked. Shawn turned to me and smiled. He had a look of love, just pure love, on his face.
"I don't know but I love it. I love you." Shawn said. My smile widened.
"I love you too. I want it to be six o'clock so we can go on our date." I said with a giggle. Shawn chuckled.
"I know, me too. I'm excited to have the restaurant all to ourselves." Shawn said. I nodded.
"You know how the kids said that they're going to spend the night at my mom's house tonight?" I asked Shawn as I looked into his mesmerizing caramel eyes and rubbed his strong bicep. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah." He said.
"Well, maybe we could do some stuff tonight. We haven't been intimate in a while and I've missed your body." I said with a blush. Shawn smiled and placed a gentle and loving kiss on my lips. We soon pulled away.
"I would love to make love to you tonight." Shawn said. I smiled and we cuddled on the couch until it was time for us to get ready.
I stood in the bathroom that was connected to mine and Shawn's bedroom. I had already done my hair, letting it stay down. I put on mascara, eye liner, and some light eye shadow. I put on the dress but quickly realized that I couldn't reach the zipper. I pulled out my phone and texted Rose.
Me: Hey sweetie, I can't reach the zipper on the dress, would you mind coming to my bathroom and helping me out please? Make sure to knock on mine and your father's bedroom door, he's getting dressed too.
Rose: Sure, I'm on my way.
Not even a minute later there was a knock on mine and Shawn's bedroom door. I could hear Shawn walk over and open it.
"Hey Rosie girl. What are you doing?" Shawn said and asked.
"Mom needs help zipping up her dress." Rose said before knocking on the bathroom door. I let her in and she quickly shut the door behind her so Shawn wouldn't see me quite yet. "Oh my gosh mom you look beautiful!" She said. I smiled.
"Thank you. I just can't reach the zipper." I said as I turned around and Rose zipped me up.
"There you go." She said.
"Thank you." I said. She nodded and then opened the bathroom door a little.
"Are you ready to see her Daddy?" Rose asked.
"Definitely." Shawn said. I smiled and Rose and I stepped out of the bathroom. Shawn's eyes widened when he saw me and his jaw dropped as he scanned up and down my body.
"How do I look Mr. Mendes?" I asked. Shawn smiled at me as he finally looked me in the eyes.
"You look absolutely stunning Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said, causing me to smile and blush. Rose stepped out of the room. I walked over to Shawn. He was wearing black dress pants and a white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
"Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself. You actually look quite handsome. But then again you always look handsome." I said with a smile. Shawn blushed as he walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his face in my neck. I smiled as he placed a few gentle and loving kisses there. He soon pulled away and smiled at me.
"How about I give you some more neck kisses tonight?" Shawn asked with a smirk. I giggled and nodded.
"I'd like that. Actually, I'd like that a lot." I said. Shawn smiled at me as he pulled away from the hug a little so he could eye me up and down again.
"You're so beautiful baby. So gorgeous and divine." Shawn said. I blushed and then swatted at Shawn's chest.
"Stop you're making me blush!" I said, causing Shawn to erupt with laughter.
"Come on, let's get going." Shawn said. We said goodbye to the kids who were leaving for my mom's house and Shawn and I got in the car and headed to the restaurant.
"You know, I never got to give you your present." I said as we drove to the restaurant.
"Baby you know that you didn't have to get me anything." Shawn said. I held one of his hands in my lap and squeezed.
"Shawn, we're celebrating twenty years of marriage. Of course I had to get you something. Plus, I know that a package for you came in recently and for some reason you won't tell me what it is." I pointed out while smirking. Shawn chuckled.
"Okay, so maybe I got you something too. I'll give it to you when we get home before we make love, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded as I brought his hand to my lips and placed a gentle kiss there. Shawn smiled.
"Okay. Um, Shawn, when we're making love tonight, no teasing, okay? I've missed you too much to be teased." I asked and said. Shawn nodded.
"Alright baby. I won't tease you even though it's fun." Shawn said.
"Hey!" I whined. Shawn laughed. We soon arrived at the restaurant, and sure enough, we were the only ones in the whole entire place. Shawn and I were soon seated at a table near the lake. Shawn kept staring at me with a smile and had look of love on his face. I gave him a confused look. "What?" I asked. He shook his head as he took my hands in his. As our hands touched, I felt sparks shoot through me but I felt safe and warm at the same time.
"Nothing, I just, you're so amazing honey. I mean it. You're beautiful inside and out and I'm so beyond lucky to be your husband and the father to your children. These past twenty years of marriage to you and twenty four years of being together have been the best years of my life and I'm so beyond grateful for you. I wouldn't be the man that I am today if it weren't for you. You make me want to be a better person and you push me, in a gentle way, to be the best version of myself that I can be and I love that about you. You've stood by my side and never abandoned me ever since we met and I love you so much for that. I'm just amazed about how lucky I am. I love you so much honey, I really do." Shawn said. Happy tears formed in my eyes as I smiled at him and hung onto every word that was coming out of the mouth of the man that I love more than anything.
"I love you so much Shawn and everything that you just said made my heart swell with joy and happiness. You make me the happiest woman alive and I'm so beyond lucky to have you in my life. Thank you so much for giving me the gift of becoming a mother. That was the best gift that you could have ever given me. There's no one else I want in life besides you. I just want you and the kids. You're such an amazing man Shawn, but most importantly you're an amazing husband and father. You love our kids so much and you dote on them and adore them and praise them. You're just so amazing Shawn and I really believe that our wedding day was magical. We're so lucky and blessed to have each other Shawn." I said. Shawn had tears in his eyes as he smiled at me and then kissed my hands.
"I remember putting your wedding ring on you." Shawn said with a smile as he started to play with my wedding ring. I smiled.
"I remember that too and I remember putting your wedding band on you." I said. Shawn smiled and nodded. I pulled my hand back and lifted my ring up a little to see my tattoo. A few months after Shawn and I got married, we got each other's initials tattooed on each other underneath our wedding rings. I smiled at my tattoo.
"Looking at my initials that you have inked on you?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. Best tattoo ever." I said with a smile. Shawn smiled back and the waiter came with our food. We thanked him and he walked away. Shawn and I talked throughout our date and had a really nice time. We soon went home and I immediately took off my heels.
"Do you need help taking off the dress darling?" Shawn asked. I nodded as we walked up the stairs and into our bedroom.
"Yes please." I said. Shawn unzipped the dress and rather than changing into clothes, I put on a robe. Shawn and I were going to be taking our clothes off again soon anyways, so what was the point of putting clothes on? Shawn got changed into just shorts and kept his shirt off. I saw his shirtless upper half and began to stare. Shawn chuckled.
"Do you need a tissue babe? You're practically drooling." Shawn asked and said. I blushed and swatted at his chest lightly.
"I can't help it! I swear to God, my husband is the most handsome, hottest, sexiest man alive." I said with a smirk. Shawn blushed and kissed my cheek.
"How about we exchange presents now, baby?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Okay. Go to the living room and then I'll be right there." I said. Shawn nodded, grabbed something, and then went downstairs. I went into the other room and grabbed the long box that had Shawn's present in it. When I carried it, gently, downstairs and Shawn saw it, his eyes widened.
"Babe, whatever it is, it's huge and you didn't have to get it for me." Shawn said. I laid it down on the coffee table in front of him.
"Stop that, you're my husband and you deserve the world. Open it up baby." I said excitedly. Shawn hesitantly opened up the box and his eyes widened when he saw the red acoustic guitar in front of him.
"Oh my gosh this is amazing." Shawn said. I smiled.
"It's a Fender Newporter Classic Acoustic Electric in Candy Apple Red color. Do you like it?" I asked. Shawn looked at me and nodded as he smiled.
"I love it, but please tell me how much you paid for this so I can pay you back." Shawn said. I shook my head.
"I'm glad that you like it but nope. I'm not going to tell you how I paid." I said. Shawn groaned, causing me to laugh.
"At least tell me if it was more than a thousand dollars please." Shawn pleaded. I sighed.
"It was less than a thousand dollars, I swear." I said. Shawn nodded. "Do you like it?"
"I love it, especially the color. I can't wait to play it." Shawn said with a smile, causing me to smile. "Now, time for your present." Shawn said, causing me to smile as he handed me a package. I opened it to see a box from Bryan Anthonys, one of my favorite jewelry stores. I smiled at Shawn and he nodded, encouraging me to open up the box. When I opened it I saw the most beautiful necklace (A/n: picture below). It looked like three pillars that were falling and there were words underneath the necklace that described the meaning of it.
"Should I read the words that are underneath the necklace out loud?" I asked Shawn. He nodded.
"Yeah." He said with a smile.
"There are a lot of uncertainties in life, but one thing that I am certain of is you and me. If nothing else, I hope you know that I choose you, and I will choose you every single day. Although time has passed — I still fall for you each and every moment. I fall for you when you surprise me with morning coffee. I fall for you when you dance silly in the kitchen. I fall for you when you are my voice of reason. I fall for you when you push me to try something new. I fall for you when you inspire me to be a better person. I fall for the way you love, for the way you live, for the person you are. Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for filling my life with adventure, wonder, and happiness. I hope you know that I adore you without limits and as long as we are together, I will fall over and over." I read and tears formed in my eyes. I looked up and smiled at my husband. I stood up and walked over to him to give him a hug.
"Do you like it?" Shawn asked. I pulled away from the hug a little and Shawn helped to wipe my tears away.
"I love it. Thank you so much honey. Will you help me put it on please?" I said and asked. Shawn smiled and nodded before he put the necklace on me. Shawn then wrapped his arms around me from behind. I leaned my back against his chest.
"Happy anniversary my love." Shawn said. I smiled.
"Happy anniversary." I said. That's when Shawn began to kiss my neck. I turned my head a little, granting him more access. Soon, we went upstairs to our bedroom and, well, you know what happens next. Overall, we had an amazing day celebrating our twenty years of marriage. I love this man more than anything in this world and that will never change.
