161. Fights
A/n: Explicit language in this one! Also, let's pretend that it's August. I hope that you guys enjoy it. Okay, let's begin!
My husband of three months, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, should be home any minute now. He was in the studio for a while and told me not to wait up for him, but because I had missed him so much, of course I had eaten dinner alone and then sat on the couch waiting for him. Shawn soon walked in the door and I got up to hug and kiss him just like I always do when he gets home from the studio or anything. I put my arms around him but he shrugged me off.
"Are you okay baby?" I asked, feeling slightly concerned.
"I'm fine. Did you already make dinner Y/n?" Shawn asked. That surprised me. He almost never calls me by my name. He usually calls me babe or baby or something, but the one that he's been calling me the most since we got married is Mrs. Mendes.
"Um, yeah, it's on the dining room table. I can heat it up for you if you want?" I offered. He shook his head.
"No, it's fine. You've already done enough." Shawn said in an agitated voice.
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked Shawn. He looked at me and scoffed.
"You know Y/n, the world doesn't revolve around you. Just because I'm not in a good mood doesn't mean that it's your fault. It's not always about you." Shawn said. My eyes widened.
"Shawn I never said that it's always about me." I said, trying to stay calm.
"Well you kind of implied it." Shawn said. My jaw practically dropped.
"No I didn't." I said. Shawn just shook his head and went into the dining room. I followed him in there, wanting to sit with him and figure out what had happened that would make him act this way. When he sat down and noticed me sit down across from him, he gave me a weird look.
"What are you doing?" Shawn asked.
"I'm just sitting with my husband. I want to know what's wrong so I can help." I said.
"Did I ever say that I wanted you to sit with me?" Shawn asked. I shook my head no.
"No. But we usually sit together and spend time together when you get home from work." I said. He frowned and shook his head.
"Who said that I actually want to spend time with you?" Shawn asked. I felt as though I had been smacked in the face with his words. My eyes widened and tears threatened to spill over but I collected myself and stood up. Right before I left the room I looked at him.
"You can sleep on the couch tonight Shawn. I don't know what happened but nothing would give you a reason to treat me in the shitty way that you are now. I'll put a pillow and blanket on the couch. Good night." I said, and left. I went upstairs and grabbed a pillow, blanket, and a piece of paper. I grabbed a pen and wrote on the paper. When I put the pillow and blanket on the couch, I also put the paper on top of it. I then went up to bed and laid there as I cried. This was our first fight as a married couple and it left me feeling terrible.
Shawn's point of view
Y/n walked out of the dining room and I soon heard her go upstairs and then come back down, then go back up the stairs again. She probably put a pillow and a blanket on the couch just like she said she would. I sighed. I had had a long and frustrating day at the studio. Whatever I sang, it didn't seem to come out correctly, and the same goes for the lyrics that I was writing. I came home and took my frustration out on my amazing wife when I really shouldn't have.
I got up when I was done eating and put my plate in the sink. As I washed it, I looked over at the couch. Yup, she had put the pillow and blanket on there. It looked like there was something on top of the blanket. I finished washing the plate, dried it, dried my own hands, put the dish away, and went over to read the piece of paper. My heart broke as I read my wife's handwriting. The letter said:
"You're a fucking asshole for treating me like shit when all I wanted was to be with you, the man that I love, and figure out what was wrong. Have a nice night on the couch. Sincerely, YOUR WIFE."
I felt so bad and tears instantly came to my eyes. I ran up the stairs, the paper still in my hand. Our bedroom door was shut, and when I knocked on it, Y/n didn't answer. I tried to open it but the door was locked. I knocked a little bit more before I began to speak, knowing that she was probably just ignoring me.
"Baby, I am so sorry. Please let me in so we can talk this out." I pleaded. I heard feet pad over to the door as she sniffled. Y/n opened the door a little, but not enough to let me into our room. She looked like a mess, but a beautiful one. I could tell that she had been crying and I felt my heart break again knowing that I had been the one to cause those tears.
"I'm listening." She said.
"I had a really frustrating day at the studio and I came home and just wanted to relax, but instead, I took my frustrations out on you. I'm so beyond sorry for that my love." I said. Suddenly, Y/n's eyes turned angry and she pointed her finger at me.
"No. You don't get to call me your love. Not right now, not after how you made me feel and the thoughts that this fight has caused." Y/n said.
"Why? What type of thoughts has it caused?" I asked, suddenly worried that she had had thoughts of harming herself or something.
"Oh, so now you care?" Y/n practically yelled. My eyes widened. I had never seen her so upset like this. Sure, her and I had gotten into fights before but this one seemed different. Maybe that was because it's our first fight as a married couple.
"Y/n I always cared." I said.
"It sure as hell didn't seem like that earlier." Y/n said. I started to cry again.
"I'm sorry. Please just let me in so we can talk." I pleaded. She thought for a moment before shaking her head.
"No. I need some time to cool off. Just please leave me alone right now Shawn." Y/n said. I hung my head.
"Baby please." I pleaded.
"I asked you to leave me alone, why can't you just respect that?" Y/n asked through gritted teeth. I sighed and nodded.
"Okay. Good night. I love you." I said.
"Good night." Y/n said, not responding to me saying I love you as she shut the door in my face and locked it again. I walked back downstairs and looked at the note again. What kind of thoughts had this fight given her? I felt so bad. I put the note aside and got underneath the blanket after I turned off the light. That night, I got maybe an hour or two of sleep, but that was it. My mind was too busy racing with thoughts about how I can fix this. At one point, around five in the morning, I went to a local florist who opens early and got Y/n a bouquet of tulips, her favorite. When I got home, Y/n was still asleep, either that or she was staying upstairs. I put the flowers in a vase and decided to go for a walk around our neighborhood. Y/n and I have lived in this neighborhood for three years, so we're on a first name basis with some of them. An older woman, Ethel, was out watering her lawn when she saw me and walked over to me. I faked a smile.
"Hi Shawn, how are you?" She asked.
"I'm good. How are you?" I asked. Ethel tilted her head and frowned.
"Come here. Let's sit on my front steps." Ethel said. I did as told. "So what's going on? You seem upset." Ethel asked and said. I hung my head and sighed.
"Y/n and I got into our first fight as a married couple last night and we haven't even resolved it yet. She's still upset with me. She made me sleep on the couch last night." I said.
"So I take it that she feels as though you did something wrong?" Ethel asked. I nodded.
"Yes, because I did. I said crappy stuff to her that I shouldn't have said and she had every single right to get mad at me and make me sleep on the couch." I said. Ethel nodded.
"Well, maybe buying her some roses might help. That might when you back some points." Ethel said.
"I already bought her some tulips. Tulips are her favorite. I should probably get home before she gets up so I can make her breakfast. She loves it when I make her some pancakes." I said as I stood up. Ethel stood up too.
"Well Shawn, don't worry. Everything will be okay. I've seen you and your lovely wife out for walks and my grandkids show me the pictures that you two post of each other. You two were made for each other. Everything will work out. I promise." Ethel said. I smiled at her.
"Thank you Ethel." I said. She smiled at me.
"You're welcome Shawn." She said. I went home and made some pancakes. Right as I was putting them on plates so I could put them on the table, I heard footsteps come down the stairs. I stopped in my tracks and looked at my gorgeous wife. Y/n looked at me and I could see the sadness in her eyes, causing my heart to break for a third time within the past twenty four hours.
"Good morning. I um, I made you some pancakes, and I bought you some tulips. They're right here on the kitchen table if you want to take a look at them." I said nervously. Y/n nodded and walked over to the tulips. She sniffed them and a small smile formed on her face, causing me to smile.
"They're beautiful." She said. I set the plates down. Instead of giving me a good morning hug and kiss just like she always does, she moved around me so she could sit down and eat.
"Just like you." I said, causing her to blush.
"Thank you." She said. I was about to respond when my cell phone rang. It was my manager, Andrew.
"I'll be right back." I said to Y/n. She nodded as she picked at her food, a sign that she was sad and depressed.
"Okay." She said. I walked out of the room and answered the phone.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Where the hell are you? Everybody's waiting for you." Andrew said. I sighed. I had completely forgotten that I was supposed to be at the studio this morning.
"Listen, you know how yesterday wasn't a good day and I was really, super frustrated?" I asked.
"Yeah." Andrew said.
"Well I kind of, um, I came home and took it out on Y/n and even though the fight started last night, we're still fighting a bit. This is our first fight since we've been married. I don't think that I can come in today. Please apologize to everyone for me." I said. I heard Andrew sigh.
"Okay. Well, good luck working this out." Andrew said.
"Yeah thanks, I'm going to need it. Bye." I said.
"Okay. Bye." Andrew said, and with that, we hung up. I went back into the kitchen where my wife was still picking at her food but I could tell that she had eaten at least a little bit. She looked up at me with sad eyes when I sat down across from her to eat.
"Who was that?" She asked.
"Andrew. He was wondering where I was because I had forgotten that I was supposed to be at the studio today." I said. Y/n nodded.
"Oh. So when are you going in?" She asked.
"I'm not. This is our first fight since we've been married and we need to fix this." I said.
"Shawn you don't have to do that. I know that you don't really care all that much." Y/n said. I frowned.
"Who said that I don't care?" I asked.
"Your actions and words from last night." She said. I hung my head and sighed.
"I didn't mean a word that I said last night. I was frustrated with work and I took it out on you and I shouldn't have. I'm sorry. Can I um, can I ask you a question?" I asked. She looked up from her food and nodded.
"Sure." She said.
"Last night you said that this fight caused some thoughts. What kind of thoughts did you mean?" I asked nervously. Y/n sighed and I saw tears form in her eyes.
"What you said when you first came home, and then when we were in the dining room, it made me feel like and think that you had actually stopped loving me and that you were going to leave me." Y/n said, the tears now running down her face. I put my head in my hands and cried. I can't believe that I had made my wife feel and think that. That's her biggest fear. I looked up at her as we both cried.
"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel or think that at all. I shouldn't have taken my frustrations out on you." I said. Y/n nodded.
"Just because you were frustrated doesn't mean that you can take it out on me. I was just trying to help. I thought that maybe if I could get you to talk about whatever had happened, I could comfort you and make you feel better in some way. What you said hurt. It really, really hurt. It made me feel like I had been verbally smacked across the face." She said as she cried. I started to cry harder.
"I'm so sorry baby. I didn't mean to make you feel like that at all. Please forgive me." I pleaded. Y/n thought for a moment before smiling a little and nodding.
"Okay. I forgive you. Just, don't let it happen again Shawn." She said. I stood up and she stood up too. I pulled her in for a hug and we held each other.
"It won't ever happen again, I promise. I love you so much." I said as I slowly stopped crying.
"I love you so much too." Y/n said. I pulled away from the hug a little.
"Can I call you my love again please?" I asked. Y/n smiled her gorgeous smile at me, and nodded.
"Of course." She said. I hugged her again but we soon pulled away again.
"Come on, let's finish eating." I said. We sat down, and this time, when she ate, she didn't pick at her food. When we finished eating, she looked at me.
"What should we do now?" She asked. I thought for a moment.
"Well, it's a nice day out. Do you want to go out on the deck?" I asked. Y/n smiled and nodded. We got our shoes on and stepped out onto our deck. My wife leaned up against the railing and I stood behind her as I wrapped my arms around her. She leaned her back against my chest and I smiled.
"I love you Mr. Mendes." Y/n said, and my smile widened.
"I love you too Mrs. Mendes." I said, causing her smile to widen. I then decided that I wanted to prove to her how much I love her, so I leaned down and began to place loving and gentle kisses on her neck. She moved her neck a little, granting me more access. She then turned around in my arms and put her lips on mine. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, and I felt sparks shoot through my whole body. Her and I pulled away, gasping for air after our rather passionate kiss. I smirked at her. "Mrs. Mendes?"
"Yes?" She asked with a smile. I kissed her cheek.
"Will you let me show you how much I love you?" I asked. Her smile grew and she nodded. I led her inside and upstairs to our bedroom and, well, you know what happens next.
Your point of view
I was sitting on the couch with Shawn after we had finished making love. Our fight was resolved, thank God. My feet were in his lap as he rubbed my shins. I scrolled through Instagram and soon came across a fan account of my husband. It was a video of us standing on our back deck. I turned the volume up and gasped as I realized what was going on.
"What's wrong?" Shawn asked. I leaned over and showed Shawn the video that was now all over Instagram. We listened as our teenage next door neighbor narrated what she had videotaped from her own deck.
"So I live next door to Shawn and Y/n Mendes, and this is them standing on their deck, having a cute moment. Oh, it looks like he's kissing her neck... oh now they're just full on making out. Okay, hold on, they're talking. Oh, he's leading her inside. Well, we all know where this is going guys." Our neighbor said. I looked at Shawn with wide eyes and his eyes were wide too.
"Shawn... we were in our own backyard. We were supposed to be having a private moment and now all of Instagram and maybe others are going to see this." I said. Shawn stood up.
"I'm going to talk to her. She can't do that. We were having a private moment in our backyard and she shouldn't have recorded it." Shawn said. I nodded and got my shoes on too. Shawn stepped outside and reached out for my hand. When I took his hand, I felt sparks of electricity shoot through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. We soon arrived next door and Ashley, the girl who had videotaped, her father, Frank, answered.
"Hi Shawn, hi Y/n. Can I help you guys?" Frank asked. I looked at Shawn as he nodded.
"Yes. Y/n and I were standing on our back deck and Ashley recorded us and posted it online and now it's making its way around Instagram. That was supposed to be a private moment between my wife and I, and now it's everywhere because Ashley videotaped it and posted it." Shawn said. I squeezed his hand and he squeezed back.
"Hold on, let me go get her." Frank said. We nodded and soon Ashley showed up at the door.
"Hi guys! How are you?" She asked, acting as if she totally hadn't invaded our privacy.
"Well, we were good, but not so much anymore." I said, suddenly getting a surge of confidence. Ashley frowned.
"Why not? Is everything okay?" She asked.
"Why would you take that video of us Ashley?" I asked. Realization hit her and her face turned red.
"Well, you guys are like, relationship goals, and you were being cute. Shouldn't the world be able to see that cuteness?" Ashley asked. I began to speak.
"Thank you for saying that we were being cute, but we were having a private moment in our own backyard. Our home and property is the one place that we shouldn't be worried about being filmed at. If we're out in the city and the paparazzi see us, that's one thing, but we shouldn't have to worry about it when we're home." I said.
"I don't understand." Ashley said.
"You invaded our privacy by filming us. This is mine and Shawn's relationship, not the world's. Please take the video down." I said. She thought for a moment before shaking her head.
"No. It's my video and I can do what I want with it." She said. My jaw dropped. Shawn stepped in.
"That may be your video but you shouldn't have been recording us in the first place and it's our privacy, so please take the video down." Shawn said.
"I don't see what the big deal is." Ashley said.
"Well, you invaded our privacy, so that's a big deal. If Y/n and I want to post something about our relationship, then that's one thing, but when we're being recorded while we're in our own backyard, that's another thing. Now your video is all over the place and that's a real invasion of privacy, so please take it down." Shawn pleaded. Ashley finally sighed and nodded.
"Fine. I'll take it down right now." She said and she had us watch as she went to her Instagram and deleted the post. She then went into her camera roll and deleted it from there too.
"Thank you." Shawn and I said at the same time, and left. When we got back home, Shawn messaged one of the big accounts that had shared it and asked them to take it down since our neighbor had invaded our privacy, and luckily, she did, and even posted asking others who had posted the video to take it down since Shawn and I didn't want it up, and some, not all, but some, listened and took it down.
"Well these past twenty four hours have been eventful." I said with a sigh. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah, they have. Come here Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said as he patted his lap. I smiled as I moved over so my butt was in his lap. He wrapped his arms around my waist and I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. He then nuzzled his face into my neck and placed a gentle kiss there. It wasn't a lustful kiss, it was just a loving one. I smiled as I ran my fingers through his luscious brown locks. Shawn hummed in contentment.
"Did you know that you're my favorite person out of everyone in this whole wide world?" I asked my loving husband. I could feel him smiling against my neck before he kissed it again.
"Yeah?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said.
"Well that's good because you're my favorite person out of everyone in this whole wide world too." Shawn said. I turned my head and he picked his head up so he could look at me. We smiled at each other and his kissed me again.
"Well at least we got our first fight as a married couple over with." I said with a giggle. Shawn chuckled.
"Yeah. I love you baby." Shawn said.
"I love you too honey. My heart is yours. It belongs to you." I said. Shawn nuzzled his face into my neck again. He loves to do that.
"Well my heart is yours and it belongs to you, my love." Shawn said. I smiled happily.
"Baby can I ask for a favor?" I asked. Shawn nodded his head against my neck.
"Of course love." Shawn said.
"Can you please just hold me in your arms forever and ever and never let me go?" I asked with a giggle. Shawn threw his head back with laughter and then brought his hand to my cheek and rubbed it with his thumb.
"Oh honey I would love that. But we both have to work and do stuff." Shawn said. I stuck my bottom lip out in a pout, causing Shawn to laugh.
"Awww, is my poor baby unhappy?" He asked. I nodded, trying to maintain a straight and serious face.
"Yes." I said.
"I can tell that you're trying not to laugh, so just let it out." Shawn said.
"Dammit!" I said with a laugh. This caused Shawn to laugh some more.
"Oh come on babe, I'm your husband, I know you better than anyone else in this entire world. Did you really think that I wouldn't be able to tell that you were struggling to keep a straight face?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah, you're right. Did you know that I love the fact that you're my husband?" I said and asked. Shawn smiled a huge smile.
"Oh really?" He asked. I nodded.
"Really. I fucking love being your wife." I said.
"Well I fucking love being your husband." Shawn said. I smiled at him before kissing his jaw.
"Can we go back to our wedding day please? That day was so beyond magical and perfect." I asked and said. Shawn nodded.
"That was the best day of my life." Shawn said. I placed a gentle kiss on his lips before we pulled away and just held each other.
"Shawn?" I asked.
"Yes?" He responded.
"Out of every decision you've ever made, out of everything that you've ever done, what was the best decision that you've ever made?" I asked. Shawn didn't hesitate to answer at all.
"Marrying you." He said with a smile. Tears formed in my eyes as I hugged him.
"I love you Shawn Mendes." I said.
"I love you too Y/n Mendes." Shawn said. Him and I spent the rest of the day cuddling on the couch. Although I'm not happy that we got into a fight, I'm glad that we got our first fight as a married couple over with and I'm glad that our neighbor, and some Instagram accounts, took down that private video of us.
