16. Paris
A/n: In this one you and Shawn are twenty-four years old. I had to do so much research for this one, lol. I hope that you guys like it! Okay, let's begin!
My boyfriend of five years Shawn Mendes and I haven't gone on an international trip in quite a long time. The last time we went on an international trip, we were twenty years old and had been dating for a year. He had taken me to Paris for our one year anniversary, so for our five year anniversary, he wanted to take me back there.
"You ready for this trip hun?" Shawn asked me as my dad drove us to the airport.
"For Paris? Yes. For this eleven hour flight? No." I said. Shawn and my dad laughed.
"Don't worry Y/n, I'll be right there next to you, okay?" Shawn asked. I took a deep breath and nodded. "This trip is going to be great. I can feel it." Shawn said.
"Trips with you are always great." I said. Shawn smiled at me and kissed my cheek.
"Alright you two love birds, we're here." My dad said. Shawn and I blushed and said goodbye to him. We were soon seated on the plane and on our way to Paris, France.
"I'm so excited! I feel like I haven't been there in forever." I said to Shawn. He laughed and kissed my cheek again.
"I know. I've been back for tours and stuff, but you haven't been back there since, what, four years ago?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"You took me for our one year anniversary." I said with a smile, which Shawn returned.
"Babe?" Shawn asked.
"Yes my love?" I asked as I ran my fingers through his hair.
"I want to kiss you." He said with a smirk.
"So do it." I said, also with a smirk. He leaned in towards me and put his lips on mine. I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, and I felt sparks shootout like fireworks throughout my body. We pulled away, gasping for air after our rather passionate kiss.
"So, I was thinking of the different places that we could go to while we're there, and - wait, do you want me to tell you, or do you want me to surprise you?" Shawn asked.
"Normally, I hate surprises, but I want this all to be a surprise. But you have to tell me if we're going to the Eiffel tower or not." I said.
"We are." Shawn said with a smile. I squealed, causing other passengers to look at me.
"Sorry." I said. Shawn laughed his ass off. We soon got to Paris and then to our hotel, and plopped down on the bed.
"That was a long ass flight." Shawn said. I nodded.
"Yup. Are we resting today and then starting our adventures and surprises tomorrow?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Oh yeah. I'm so jet lagged right now. Come on baby, let's go to bed." Shawn said. We slept for a whole ten hours, missing the beautiful sunrise that we saw the first time we were here together.
"Dammit." I whispered when I got out of bed in the morning.
"Babyyyy." Shawn whined. I turned to him.
"Whattttt?" I mock whined back.
"Come back to bed." Shawn requested.
"We've been sleeping for ten hours, and I want to go on our adventures. So, Mr. Mendes, it's time for you to wake up." I said. Shawn groaned.
"Wait, why did you say dammit?" Shawn asked.
"Because we missed the sunrise." I said while sticking out my lower lip in a pout. Shawn laughed. I jumped on him. "This isn't funny! Paris sunrises are gorgeous." I said, my butt on his torso.
"So they're just like you?" Shawn asked. I blushed and covered my face with my hands. "No, don't cover that gorgeous face of yours. Come on pretty girl, let me see it." Shawn said. I slowly dragged my hands away from my face. Shawn smiled.
"There, you saw it, now get up, I'm ready for adventures." I said as I got off Shawn. He laughed and got up. Shawn and I showered, ate, and brushed our teeth. We then headed out of the hotel, our fingers laced together.
"So, our first stop is the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile. Are you ready?" Shawn asked me as I bounced up and down with excitement.
"Yes. Adventure awaits. Come on!" I said as I dragged Shawn along.
"Wrong way babe." Shawn said with a laugh.
"Oops." I said. We soon got there and I admired the large structure.
"It says online 'This 1836 monument was built in order to honor those who have fought and died for France during the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars. If you stand under this arc, you will see all the names of the French victories and generals inscribed on the inner and outer surfaces. Another notable thing as well is that the 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' is placed beneath this arc as a tribute to the 1.3 million French unidentified soldiers who lost their lives during World War I.'" Shawn read.
"That sounds pretty cool. So much history." I said. We stayed there for a little bit, looking at the names of the French victories and generals. Shawn put his arm around my waist and kissed my temple.
"Come on, let's go to our next stop." Shawn said. Our next stop was Jardin du Luxembourg. "It says that this is the second largest city park in Paris and it was built in the 1620s." Shawn said.
"Wow. That's amazing. Shawn look at all the fountains and statues." I said. Shawn smiled at me.
"Wait, go stand by that statue, I want to take a picture of you." Shawn said. I did as told and stood underneath the statue. We stayed at the city park until it was almost sunset, and then went back to our hotel in time to watch the sunset from our balcony.
"This is beautiful Shawn. Thank you so much for this." I said while looking out at the beautiful view. Before we went to bed, Shawn went on his phone and typed some stuff. My phone dinged and I saw that Shawn had posted something on Instagram. He had posted the picture of me underneath the statue. The caption read:
"In Paris with the love of my life. Can't wait for the rest of our adventures baby."
"Awww, thank you for that Shawn." I said as he walked over to where I was, laying in bed. He got into bed too and kissed my forehead.
"You're welcome baby, I meant it too." He said. I smiled and pecked his lips. Turns out he wanted a better kiss, so he put his lips on mine and we made out a little before falling asleep. The next morning I woke up before sunrise. I practically pounced on Shawn.
"Wake up!" I said.
"Huh? What? What's wrong?" Shawn asked. Panic was etched across his face and I suddenly felt bad for making him feel like that.
"Sorry, nothing's wrong, I just want to watch the sunrise with you." I said. Shawn smiled and nodded.
"It's okay. Come on baby girl." Shawn said as he got up and gently took my hand and walked over to the balcony. He sat down and pulled me onto his lap and together we watched the sunrise. Afterwards, we got ready for the day.
"Where are we going today my love?" I asked Shawn.
"To the Musée du Louvre. It's an art museum. Then, we're going to the Musée d'Orsay, which is a more modern art museum. They have pieces of art done by Monet and Van Gogh there." Shawn said. My jaw dropped. I love art.
"Oh my gosh I love you for this." I said. Shawn laughed and then took my hand as we headed to the Musée du Louvre. We saw the Mona Lisa and more famous works. We had fun at Musée d'Orsay too. All in all it was a great day. That night I woke up at two in the morning to an empty bed. I looked out at our balcony only to find Shawn playing guitar with the balcony doors shut. I stepped over to the doors and opened them. Shawn turned around and smiled at me before frowning.
"Hey love, what are you doing up?" Shawn asked.
"Don't know, but I could ask you the same thing." I said as I sat down next to him. He put the guitar down and pulled me into his lap.
"I couldn't sleep." Shawn said, causing me to frown.
"I'm sorry honey. Do you want to go back to bed and I can run my fingers through your hair until you fall asleep?" I asked Shawn. He nodded and picked me up and carried me to bed.
"I love you honey." Shawn said as he kissed my forehead. I smiled as I started to run my fingers through his hair.
"I love you too baby boy." I said. Shawn smiled and hummed in contentment. He soon fell asleep. The next day we decided to stay in and relax. We put on a few movies and cuddled in bed. Shawn kissed my shoulder before speaking.
"So I was thinking, and tomorrow's our last day, so maybe we could go to the Eiffel Tower just like I promised. Do you like that idea?" Shawn asked. I nodded my head violently.
"Yes! Oh Shawn I can't wait." I said as I clapped my hands together. Shawn laughed his gorgeous laugh, causing me to smile.
"Well, you'll have to because we still have to get through today." Shawn said.
"Not if I fall asleep right now." I said, closing my eyes.
"Babe it's four o'clock." Shawn said.
"Your point being?" I asked.
"My point being that it's too early for bed." Shawn said. I groaned and opened my eyes. Shawn and I passed the time by playing games and watching more movies and shows. That night I had a hard time falling asleep because I was so excited. Do I wake up Shawn and ask him to sing to me? No, I don't want to bother him. I realized that if it was midnight in Paris, that meant it was six o'clock at night back home in Boston. I got out of bed, went into the bathroom, and called my mom.
"Hi sweetie, what time is it there?" She asked.
"Midnight." I said.
"What are you doing up?" She asked.
"I can't sleep and I don't want to wake Shawn up and I'm really tired and I miss home." I said as I began to cry.
"Oh honey, you should've woken Shawn up." She said.
"No, I don't want to bother him." I said while crying. The door opened and a panicked looking Shawn walked in.
"Honey? What's wrong?" Shawn asked.
"Shawn just walked in, I'll call you in the morning mom." I said, and we hung up. Shawn stood in between my legs since I was sitting on the sink.
"What's wrong love?" Shawn asked.
"I can't sleep and I didn't want to wake you up and I'm really tired and I miss home." I said, still crying.
"Oh honey, you should've woken me up." Shawn said.
"I didn't want to bother you." I said. Shawn picked me up and carried me to bed.
"You never bother me. Never. I don't want you to ever think that. Okay?" Shawn said and asked. I nodded.
"Okay." I said.
"Do you want me to sing to you?" Shawn asked. By now I had stopped crying, so I smiled and nodded.
"Can you sing A Little Too Much please?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Of course honey." Shawn said, and soon after he began to sing and rub my back, I fell asleep. The next day I woke up at nine. I opened my eyes to find Shawn staring at me with a smile on his face.
"Good morning handsome." I said as I smiled.
"Good morning beautiful." Shawn said. I snuggled my face into his slightly hairy chest that I love so much, and placed small kisses there. Shawn rubbed my back. "We have to get up soon if we want to make it to the Eiffel Tower anytime soon." Shawn said. I nodded and looked up at him so he could see me smiling at him.
"I love you Shawn." I said.
"I love you too. Come on, let's get up." Shawn said. We soon got ready for the day, packed so we would be ready to leave for the airport afterwards, and went to the top of the Eiffel Tower. I leaned against the railing and looked out at the view of Paris.
"Shawn this is beautiful." I said after a minute.
"Turn around." He said. I turned around and found Shawn down on one knee with a ring in his hand.
"Oh my God." I said as I clapped my hand to my mouth.
"Y/n Y/m/n Y/l/n, I have loved you since the day I met you, and I'll love you until I die, and if there's something after that, I'll love you then too. You're the love of my life and I can't and won't imagine life with anyone else. You're my best friend, my lover, my confidant, my everything. Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?" Shawn asked. I cried and nodded.
"Yes, yes! A million times yes!" I cried. Shawn got up, put the ring on me, and kissed me. I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, and I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon. Shawn and I pulled away, gasping for air after our rather passionate kiss. People were clapping and we smiled at them. We soon left and returned home, but this time, as an engaged couple. I love Shawn, my fiance, so much.
