155. Rose's Second Birthday and Surprise
A/n: PLEASE READ WHAT I JUST WROTE ON MY PROFILE. THANK YOU. Anyways, I hope that you enjoy this imagine. I've been having Dad!Shawn stuck in my head a lot lately, lol. Also, let's pretend that it's June 2nd. Okay, let's begin!
I woke up to my face being buried in someone's chest. I felt someone rubbing my back, and when I looked up, I saw my husband of three years, the singer and songwriter, Shawn Mendes, smiling at me.
"Good morning, my gorgeous Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said. After three years, being called Mrs. Mendes still causes my heart to flutter, which it did at that moment.
"Good morning, my handsome Mr. Mendes. Could you please do me a favor?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Of course honey." Shawn said.
"Could you please call me Mrs. Mendes again? I love being called Mrs. Mendes." I asked and said. Shawn quietly chuckled as he nodded and pulled my body closer to his.
"Hello Mrs. Mendes, the mother of my child. You became Mrs. Mendes three years ago, and you will always be Mrs. Mendes. I love you Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said, causing my heart to flutter and my smile to widen.
"I love you too Mr. Mendes." I said. Shawn kissed my forehead and the spot that he kissed was left feeling tingly, even after his lips were no longer there.
"Two years ago today you made me a father. Thank you so much for that, my love." Shawn said while smiling at me. He was shirtless so I kissed his chest.
"You're welcome. You know, I couldn't have done it without you." I said. Shawn chuckled.
"Yeah, that's true. We had a lot of fun trying to make her." Shawn said with a smirk. I swatted at his chest lightly.
"Shawn!" I whisper-yelled since our now two years old daughter, Rose, was still sleeping.
"What? It's true." Shawn asked and said. I giggled and shook my head in disbelief at him.
"Come on, let's go make her some pancakes." I said. As I went to stand up, Shawn gently pulled me back down. As I had not been expecting me to pull me back down, I let out a small squeal, causing Shawn to laugh.
"You're not going anywhere until I get a kiss babe. I need your kisses." Shawn said. I giggled before placing my lips on his. Our lips moved in sync as I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, and I felt sparks shoot throughout my body like fireworks on the Fourth of July. Shawn and I pulled away from each other, gasping for breath after our rather passionate kiss, and we smiled at each other.
"I love you." I said. Shawn's smile widened.
"I love you too darling. Come on, let's get ready for the day and then we'll make our Rosie girl some pancakes." Shawn said. I nodded as we went into the closet. I picked out white shorts and a blue short sleeve shirt. Shawn put on white basketball shorts and a blue t-shirt. I smiled at my gorgeously handsome husband.
"Hey, look at that, we match." I said with a giggle. Shawn looked at my outfit and laughed quietly.
"We do. Come on, let's brush our teeth and then make breakfast." Shawn said. I nodded and we went into our bathroom to brush our teeth. Once we were done brushing our teeth, Shawn held my hand and we walked down the stairs together. As our hands touched, I felt sparks shoot through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. We soon got into the kitchen.
"Counter talks?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded as he picked me up and put me on our kitchen counter. Mine and Shawn's counter talks are when I sit on the counter and we talk. I love it because it's just some special quality time together between him and I. Shawn and I were talking when suddenly he went quiet. I gave him a look of concern. "You okay?" I asked. He faked a smile and nodded.
"Yeah." He said. I shook my head.
"No you're not. What's going on with my husband?" I asked. Shawn sighed and stopped making the pancakes for a moment as he turned and walked over so he was standing in between my legs. I put my hands on his shoulders and he put his hands on my waist.
"When we were pregnant with Rose, I announced that I would be going on a musical hiatus until she was five. Do you think that I'm doing the right thing by waiting until she's five to get back in the studio and then go on tour?" Shawn asked. I ran my fingers through his hair, hoping to calm him down. He hummed, liking the feeling of what I was doing.
"Baby, I think that you made the perfect decision. You chose to do what you felt was best, and I agree with you being on a hiatus. Honey, Rose and I love having you here, at home, with us. I definitely think that you did the right thing. Don't overthink it baby." I said. Shawn nodded before going back to the pancakes.
"Okay. Thank you." Shawn said. I gave him a look of confusion.
"What are you thanking me for?" I asked.
"You always know the right thing to say to make me feel better. Thank you for that." Shawn said. I smiled.
"You're welcome my love." I said. Just as Shawn was about to finish up the pancakes, we heard Rose begin to cry.
"There goes the birthday girl." Shawn said.
"I'll go get her, you finish up our delicious breakfast." I said. Shawn smiled at me and kissed my cheek before picking me up off the counter to set me on the floor.
"There you go." Shawn said. I smiled and ran upstairs and into Rose's room. She immediately started to calm down when she saw me and made grabby hands at me.
"Mumma." She said. I smiled at her as I picked her up.
"Hi sweetie. Happy birthday!" I said. She hugged me.
"Thank you Mumma. Where's Daddy?" She asked.
"He's downstairs in the kitchen making us some of his delicious pancakes." I said. Her eyes widened and she smiled as she clapped her hands together.
"Pancakes! I want pancakes!" She yelled. I laughed.
"Don't worry, you'll get your pancakes." I said as I carried her out of her room and down the stairs. Once we turned the corner and she could see Shawn, she immediately began kicking her legs, so I set her down.
"DADDY!" She yelled. Shawn turned to her, smiled, and opened up his arms so she could go running into them, which, of course, she did.
"Hi sweet pea, happy birthday." Shawn said as he picked her up and set her on the counter. She smiled at him.
"Thank you Daddy. Daddy?" She asked. He looked at her, in awe of his beautiful and precious daughter, and nodded.
"Yes my Rosie girl?" Shawn asked.
"Can I have my pancakes with a smiley face on them please?" She asked.
"I'm sorry honey, but I already cut the pancakes up into small bites for you. But, I did put the syrup on in the shape of a smiley face. Is that okay?" Shawn said and asked. Rose nodded.
"Yeah." She said. Shawn and I smiled.
"Good. Now come on, breakfast is ready." Shawn said as he picked Rose up and set her on the floor.
"Rose, do you want to sit next to your Daddy?" I asked. Rose began to jump up and down, causing Shawn and I to laugh.
"Yeah!" She said. Shawn picked her up and set her down at a chair at the kitchen table and then went to grab our food. I sat across from Shawn as he sat down next to his daughter.
"Rose are you a Daddy's girl?" I asked her. She smiled and nodded.
"Yeah. I love my Daddy a lot. But I also love you Mommy." Rose said, and I could tell that she meant it. My heart swelled with joy and happiness.
"I love you too sweetie." I said. Shawn smiled at us and then began to eat his food. A few minutes later, Rose suddenly put down her fork, causing Shawn and I to look at her.
"Mommy?" Rose asked. I nodded.
"Yes Rosie?" I asked.
"Why do you love Daddy?" Rose asked. I smiled at her and then at my husband. Even though I was answering her question, I suddenly couldn't take my eyes off of the amazing and handsome man in front of me. Shawn smiled at me as he put his fork down too, waiting for my answer.
"Well, I love your Daddy because he is the nicest, sweetest, most down to earth, wise, mature, humble, person ever. Your Daddy is also the best looking guy out there. He's so beyond handsome and good looking and he has a smile that could light up this world. I love your Daddy because of who he is around me - and in general - and how he treats me. He's always been honest with me and loyal to me. I love your Daddy because he's my best friend, my rock, my soulmate, my everything. Your Daddy loves me for who I am and accepts me for who I am. I love your Daddy for just about a million reasons Rose. I love him so much." I said as tears formed in my eyes and I smiled. Shawn smiled back at me.
"Come here." Shawn said as he scooted his chair back so I could sit on his lap. I got out of my seat and plopped myself down on his lap. Shawn wrapped his arms around me.
"Why are you crying Mumma?" Rose asked as Shawn helped to wipe my tears away. I looked at my daughter.
"I'm just really happy that I have the most amazing husband and the most amazing daughter." I said. Rose nodded. I stopped crying and went back to my chair so I could finish eating. Suddenly, I had to stop eating and ran into the bathroom to get sick.
"You okay love?" Shawn asked as he came in with a bottle of water.
"Yeah, I think that the pancakes just weren't agreeing with me for some reason." I lied. Shawn nodded and rubbed my back as I finished getting sick.
That weekend was Rose's birthday party. Shawn and I made it with a sweets theme because, well, she's our sweet little girl. We even had a balloon of a donut floating in the house near balloons that said "TWO SWEET" which made Rose happy. Shawn and I dressed her in a tutu and a pink shirt. Shawn's parents, Karen and Manny, along with Shawn's sister, Aaliyah, came down from Canada to celebrate Rose's birthday. Obviously my family was there too, and some of mine and Shawn's friends. I walked around the house and greeted guests. I found my mom and Karen talking to each other and went up to them.
"Oh good, you guys are together. Okay, I need to talk to you guys." I said. They nodded and came upstairs to mine and Shawn's bedroom with me. I sat down on the bed and they did too.
"Is everything okay Y/n?" Karen asked.
"Yeah you seem nervous honey." My mom pointed out. I nodded.
"There's something that Shawn doesn't know about and I'm really worried that he's going to get mad or something." I said, looking at the blanket on my bed, rather than at my mother and mother-in-law. My mom reached forward and squeezed my hand gently, urging me to look at her and Karen.
"Love, whatever it is, Shawn could never get mad at you." Karen said. I nodded and took a shaky breath.
"What is it honey?" My mom asked. I looked at them.
"I'm pregnant." I said. Their eyes widened and they smiled at each other and then at me.
"Congratulations!" Karen said.
"Thank you." I said with a small smile.
"Congratulations honey. But why do you think that Shawn is going to get mad about this? He's going to be ecstatic." My mom asked and said. I nodded.
"I just, well, it's not like we were trying to get pregnant. What if he doesn't want this baby?" I asked, now playing with my fingers. Karen gently grabbed one of my hands and my mom gently grabbed the other.
"Y/n, I know my son, and he is going to be over the moon with joy. He's definitely going to want this baby. Why wouldn't he want the baby?" Karen asked. I shrugged.
"I don't know. I guess my mind is my own worst enemy at times." I said. Karen and my mom nodded. There was a knock on the door all of the sudden, causing the three of us to jump.
"Come in!" My mom called out. The door opened and Shawn walked in, a look of concern etched across his face.
"Hey guys. Is everything okay?" Shawn asked. I looked at my mom and Karen.
"Could I talk to Shawn alone please?" I asked. They nodded and got up.
"Of course." They said, and left the room, shutting the door behind them. Shawn sat down on the bed with me.
"Please don't tell me that everything's okay, because I know you and I can tell by the look on your face that something is up. What's wrong love?" Shawn asked. I let out another shaky breath.
"There's something that I haven't told you and I'm just really nervous that you're going to get upset or something." I said. Shawn frowned and shook his head.
"No honey, I could never get upset with you. What haven't you told me?" Shawn said and asked. I leaned forward and took my hands in his, needing to feel the warmth and safety of his touch. Shawn squeezed my hands.
"Do you remember, about a month ago, you had said how you and I hadn't been intimate in a while so while Rose was asleep in her room you and I very quietly made love?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah." He said.
"We forgot to use a condom." I said, hoping that he would catch onto what I was trying to say. He didn't.
"Oh. Well honey, if you get pregnant then I'll be over the moon with happiness." Shawn said. Once he said that, I felt as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
"Really?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Of course." He said. I got up and went into the bathroom to grab something. I then went back into the bedroom where Shawn was still sitting on our bed. I handed him the three positive pregnancy tests. His eyes widened as he looked at them.
"So you would be over the moon if I told you that I have a baby in my belly right now?" I asked. Shawn looked up at me with tears in his eyes and smiled as he nodded.
"Yes! Definitely! So we're pregnant?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yup. We have a bun in the oven." I said with a giggle. Shawn set the pregnancy sticks down on the bed and stood up to gently pull me in for a hug.
"Oh my gosh. This is amazing. Wait, were you worried that I would be upset about you being pregnant?" Shawn asked, a look of concern back on his face. I looked down and nodded. Shawn took his index finger and gently lifted my head up so I was looking into his comforting caramel colored eyes.
"Yeah." I said.
"Why honey?" Shawn asked.
"Well, it's not like we had been trying to have a baby, and then all of the sudden I kept getting sick in the morning and I was extra emotional and I missed my period. I was worried that, for some reason, you wouldn't want the baby. I'm sorry." I said. Shawn gently pulled me in for a hug.
"It's okay honey, and it's okay that we got pregnant when we weren't even trying. I'm so excited honey. I love having a little girl but I hope that we have a boy this time." Shawn said with a smile. I smiled back.
"Yeah?" I asked. He nodded.
"Yeah. Mrs. Mendes, I never want you to worry about me being upset with you ever again. I love you honey, and sure we're going to have our downs, but you and I sure have had a crap ton of ups. You can always tell me anything, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Okay. I love you too." I said. Shawn kissed my forehead, then my nose, and then my lips. When our lips met, I felt all of those same magical feelings again, the sparks, the heart racing, the butterflies, everything. Shawn and I pulled away from the kiss and hugged.
"So do our moms know?" Shawn asked. I nodded as I pulled away from the hug.
"Yeah. You're not mad that they found out before you did, are you?" I asked nervously. Shawn shook his head violently.
"No, of course not." Shawn said. I smiled and nodded. Shawn and I went back to the party and I gave a thumbs up to Karen and my mom. They smiled at us. We had a very fun time at the party and about eight months later, Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes was born.
