154. Father's Day

A/n: Okay so I know that Father's Day isn't for a few more months, but this popped into my head and I just wanted to write it. I hope that you guys enjoy it. Okay, let's begin!

I woke up in the morning to find that my husband of almost two years, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, was not next to me. Instead, there was a note on his side of the bed. I read it.

Good morning Mrs. Mendes,

I got called into the studio this morning by Andrew. I don't know when I'll be home but I promise you that I won't work late. I made you some pancakes, they're on the counter in the kitchen. I hope you and Rose have fun today. Call me if you need anything or if there's a problem. I love you and my little Rosie girl.

Love,

Your husband.

I smiled and got up out of bed. He's always called our ten months old daughter, Rose, his Rosie girl. It's so cute. He also loves to call her sweet pea. I made my way down the hall and into Rose's pink bedroom. She was sleeping so peacefully. I texted Shawn saying good morning and he sent me back a kissy face emoji. I went downstairs and there were Shawn's delicious pancakes. I sat down and ate them. As soon as I finished eating, I heard Rose cry, and I ran upstairs. I immediately picked her up and held her.

"It's okay honey, Mommy's here. Do you need your diaper changed?" I asked and sniffed her butt. Nope. "Do you need to be fed?" I asked as I carried her downstairs to get her a bottle. As she drank it, I talked to her, even though she wasn't talking back yet. "Father's Day is in a month. What should we get Daddy for his first Father's Day?" I asked, but of course, she didn't answer. I then had an idea and picked up my phone to call Shawn's photographer, Josiah Van Dien.

"Hey Y/n, how are you?" Josiah asked.

"I'm good, how are you?" I asked.

"I'm good. Shawn's giving me a worried look, is everything okay?" Josiah asked. My eyes widened.

"Crap, I didn't realize that you were with Shawn. Everything's okay. I just have an idea for Father's Day but I need your help and I obviously don't want Shawn to know." I said.

"Okay. Shawn, don't worry, she says that everything's okay. I'll be right back, I just have to go into another room." Josiah said.

"Okay." I said. There were a few moments before Josiah started to speak again.

"All right, talk to me." Josiah said. I smiled.

"Okay, so I know that you've taken plenty of photos of Shawn and Rose together, and I was hoping that you could send me your top ten favorite pictures of just the two of them. I want to have it framed for him. Just please don't tell him." I requested.

"Sure, no problem, I can do that. Now, what do I tell him if he asks what we talked about?" Josiah asked. I thought for a moment.

"Tell him that it has to do with Father's Day and that he can't know." I said.

"Okay." Josiah said.

"Thank you so much for this." I said.

"No problem. Bye Y/n." Josiah said.

"Bye." I said, and we hung up. A few minutes later, I got a text from Josiah.

Josiah: Shawn is saying that whether you like it or not, he's going to get you to tell him what the Father's Day thing is.

Me: Lol, in his dreams.

I got a phone call about a minute later from Shawn.

"Hi honey." I said.

"So why do you need Josiah for Father's Day?" Shawn asked.

"Okay then, right to the point. Well, it's a gift for you, so you can't know." I said.

"Oh come on, please tell me." Shawn pleaded. I giggled.

"No Shawn! Stop asking and get back to work." I said. Shawn groaned.

"Ugh. Fine. I love you." Shawn said.

"I love you too." I said with a smile. We said goodbye and hung up. Later that day, I found a place that does custom trophies and had one made that said "BEST DADDY AWARD: SHAWN MENDES". I really hope that he's going to like it. I also sat down with Rose and we made a card for Shawn. I know that Father's Day isn't for another month, but I just want to get these things taken care of. I'm right handed, and I pretended that the handwriting is Rose's card to Shawn was from her by using my left hand to make it look like a little kid wrote it. I also made my own card for him. I also printed out one of the photos that Josiah had sent me, and framed it. In the picture, Shawn was holding Rose up in the air and smiling at her as she smiled too.

A month later I awoke to a sleeping Shawn. It was finally his first Father's Day. I went down the hall to see Rose awake and playing with her feet. I smiled as I picked her up and carried her downstairs so she could keep me company while I made Shawn breakfast. Once the pancakes with bacon and eggs was all done, I put them - and some of Rose's baby food, for her of course - on a tray and carefully carried her and the tray upstairs and into mine and Shawn's bedroom, where he was still sleeping. I put the tray down at the end of the bed and put Rose on Shawn's stomach.

"Wake up Daddy, Rose." I said. She crawled up his chest, and he quickly opened his eyes. First, he saw me, and smiled. He then looked down at his chest to see his now eleven months old daughter and his smile widened.

"Good morning my sweets. Rosie, did you wake me up?" Shawn asked. I smiled.

"I told her to. Happy Father's Day my love." I said as I bent down to give Shawn a kiss, not caring about morning breath. Shawn kissed back and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. We pulled away and smiled at each other.

"Thank you honey. Come on Rose, let's sit up." Shawn said as he held his daughter while he sat up so he could put his back against the headboard of the bed.

"Rose and I made you breakfast - well, she watched as I made breakfast, but still." I said. Shawn chuckled and I handed him the tray of food.

"Thank you. Um, why is Rose's food on here?" Shawn asked. I sat down on the bed next to him.

"Well, I know that you like to feed her, so I put it there so you could feed her if you want. Or I could feed her." I said. Shawn shook his head as he smiled at his daughter who is oh so precious to him.

"No, I want to feed her." Shawn said. He then took the spoon and got Rose to eat her food. After he fed her, he ate his own breakfast, making sure that Rose stayed on his lap the whole time. Soon, he was done eating.

"Okay, so, do you want your cards first or presents first?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment.

"Cards please." He said. I grabbed the cards and handed them to him. He gave me a puzzled look. "Two cards?"

"Well I wanted to make a card for you too. You're such an amazing father Shawn and you deserve a million cards." I said with a smile. Shawn smiled before kissing my cheek. When he opened Rose's card, his eyes widened.

"But she doesn't know how to write..." Shawn said. I laughed.

"Yeah, I wrote in it for her using the hand that I usually don't use to write. But she did make a little squiggly line down there. Read it out loud." I pointed out. Shawn smiled.

"'Dear Daddy, happy Father's Day! You're the best Daddy in the whole wide world and I love you so much. Thank you for always caring for me, protecting me, keeping me safe, singing to me, rubbing my back, playing with me, reading to me, but most of all, thank you for loving me. I love you Daddy.'" Shawn read, and he seemed to get choked up with emotions.

"Oh baby, don't cry." I said.

"I'm okay." He said.

"Okay. Read mine!" I said, causing Shawn to laugh before he read my card out loud.

"'Happy Father's Day Shawn! My love, you are the best father ever. I still remember how you used to be so afraid to hold a baby, but now look at you. You have a daughter that loves you more than anything. I love how great you are with her. You always sing to her, and cuddle with her, and dote on her, but most importantly, you love her Shawn. Rose is lucky and blessed to have you as her father. Thank you for helping me to make my dream of becoming a mother come true. I love you, happy Father's Day.'" Shawn read. He smiled at me and pulled me close to him.

"Did you like what I wrote?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah. Thank you honey." Shawn said. I kissed his cheek.

"You're welcome. Now, it's time for presents." I said as I got up.

"Baby, you didn't have to get me anything." Shawn said when I came back with the two gifts behind my back.

"Shawn, you are an amazing father, and you deserve so much. Plus, do you actually think that Josiah would charge me money? Nope, he just helped out his friend's wife." I said with a smile. Shawn smiled and nodded.

"Okay." Shawn said.

"Okay, here's the first one." I said, handing Shawn the trophy. He laughed and smiled.

"I love it. I have my own trophy for being a daddy!" Shawn said. I giggled and nodded.

"Yes you do. Where are you going to put it?" I asked. Shawn looked around before putting it on the nightstand by his side of the bed.

"Right there. Is the other gift the one that Josiah helped with?" Shawn asked. I nodded and handed him the picture. His eyes widened and a big smile broke out onto his face.

"Do you like that photo? I could always choose a different one if you want." I asked and said. Shawn shook his head violently as he stared at the photo, still smiling.

"No, this photo is perfect. I remember that day. We had gone to the park and asked Josiah to take pictures of us. Look Rose, it's you and I." Shawn said as he showed her the photo. Shawn and I laughed as she clapped her hands.

"Are you going to put it in your office?" I asked Shawn. He nodded. Later on, we were sitting on the couch, Rose on Shawn's lap, as he tried to get her to say Dada.

"Come on Rose, say Dada. Say Dada. I know you can do it, say Dada, Rose." Shawn said. Rose looked up at her father.

"Dada." She said. Shawn looked at me with wide eyes and a humongous smile.

"Oh my God she just said her first word." Shawn said. Happy tears had formed in his eyes. I nodded as happy tears had formed in my eyes too.

"I know. Oh my gosh Shawn this is amazing." I said. Shawn looked back at Rose.

"Say it again Rosie. Say Dada." Shawn said.

"Dada." Rose said.

"Good job Rose!" I said as I clapped my hands, and when Rose clapped her hands too, Shawn and I laughed.

"I have to tell my mom this, oh my gosh." Shawn said. He Facetimed his mom, Karen, and she answered almost immediately. Manny, Shawn's dad, was with her.

"Hi honey! Hi Y/n! Happy Father's Day Shawn!" Karen said.

"Thanks Mum, happy Father's Day dad!" Shawn said.

"Thank you son. Hi Y/n. How has your first Father's Day been so far?" Manny asked. Shawn smiled.

"Well, it started out with Rose waking me up by crawling on my chest, and then I had breakfast in bed that Y/n had made me. Then, Y/n gave me cards that her and Rose made which I loved. Plus, I got two presents, a custom trophy that said 'BEST DADDY EVER: SHAWN MENDES' and a picture of Rose and I that Josiah took. But, I think the best Father's Day gift just happened and I need to tell you guys about it." Shawn said with a big smile.

"Oh, those gifts sound lovely. What was the gift that just happened that you seemed to be so excited about?" Karen asked.

"Rose just said her first word." Shawn said, his smile huge as he beamed with pride.

"AHHH NO WAY!" Karen yelled, causing Shawn and I to laugh.

"Yup. She said Dada." Shawn said.

"Oh congratulations. You guys must be over the moon with joy." Karen said. Shawn and I nodded.

"Yeah. Here, listen," Shawn said as he made it so Rose could see her grandparents as he held her. "Rose, say Dada."

"Dada." Rose said. Karen and Manny cheered, causing Rose to laugh and clap. We all soon said goodbye and hung up.

"Now I have to call my mom." I said. Shawn nodded as he sat on the floor and played with Rose.

"Okay." He said. My mom picked up almost immediately.

"Hi sweetie, how are you?" She asked.

"I'm great because Rose said her first word." I said.

"OH MY GOSH, REALLY?" My mom yelled. I laughed.

"Yup. She said Dada." I said.

"Oh, and it's Shawn's first Father's Day, he must be over the moon with joy." She said. I smiled.

"He really is mom. He had tears in is eyes and he just facetimed Karen and Manny so they could hear her say it too. Do you want me to put you on speaker so you can hear her say it?" I asked.

"Oh I would love that." My mom said. I walked over to Shawn and Rose and put my mom on speaker.

"Rose, Meimei is on the phone, say Dada." I said.

"Dada." Rose said.

"Oh my gosh she really said it!" My mom said and I could tell that she was getting choked up. Shawn and I laughed.

"Yup, she did." I said.

"I think that her saying Dada was the best Father's Day gift, even though it wasn't even planned." Shawn said.

"Yes, happy Father's Day Shawn! How has your day been?" My mom asked. Shawn smiled at his daughter, his pride and joy, as he spoke to my mom.

"Oh, it's been amazing. Y/n made me breakfast in bed and Rose woke me up and I got cards and presents. Right now I'm just playing with Rosie." Shawn said.

"Good. Well I'll let you get back to playing with her, give her a kiss for me please." My mom said. I kissed the top of Rose's head and she smiled at me.

"I gave her a kiss and she smiled at me." I said.

"Awww. Well have a good day guys. Love you guys!" My mom said.

"We love you too. Bye." I said, and we hung up. Shawn, Rose and I spent the rest of the day together and had a lot of fun. I'm so happy that Rose said her first word - it was the perfect Father's Day gift to Shawn.
