138. Pillow Fights and Hospitals
Shawn's point of view
"Okay, and don't forget that Jake always naps at noon." My wife, Y/n Mendes reminded me. I smiled and nodded.
"Honey, they're my kids too, I know how to take care of them. Please just go have a nice spa day with the girls. You're one tough working momma, and you earned this. We'll be fine." I said. Y/n sighed and nodded before smiling at me.
"Okay. Please call me if there's any problems." Y/n pleaded. I nodded and brought my hand to the back of her head so I could kiss her forehead.
"Everything's going to be fine, honey, breathe." I said as I rested my forehead against hers.
"I know but, well, this is my first time being away from them in a long time." She said. I pulled away and kissed her forehead again, trying to reassure her that everything would be okay.
"I know, but I have everything under control, okay?" I asked. She hesitantly nodded.
"Okay. Thank you for doing this." She said with a smile, which I gladly returned.
"You're welcome my love. Mrs. Mendes, you deserve all of the pampering in the world." I said to my wife, matter-of-factly. She blushed and giggled.
"Thank you. I love you my handsome husband." She said.
"I love you too my beautiful wife. Now come give me a kiss." I said with a smirk. Y/n put her lips on mine and I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks, and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach. Y/n and I soon pulled away before the kiss could become too heated.
"Mumma?" Y/n and I heard our five year old daughter Rose ask. Y/n squatted down a bit so she was more at the same level with Rose.
"Yes honey?" Y/n asked.
"Where are you going?" Rose asked.
"Auntie Grace, Chelsea, Avery, Anna, and I are going to have a girl's day." Y/n said. Rose pouted.
"But what am I going to do without you?" Rose asked.
"Well you could always play with your little brother Jake, and I'm sure that Daddy wouldn't mind spending time with his little girl." Y/n said. I squatted down too.
"I would not at all mind spending time with the most amazing daughter ever." I said. Rose smiled at me. When Y/n first told me that she was pregnant with Rose, I started to cry, and I cried when Rose was born. She's my first born, my Rosie girl, my sweet pea.
"Okay. Can we play today Daddy?" Rose asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Of course." I said. The doorbell rang and my wife got it. It was her best friend, Grace.
"Hey guys! Hi Rose!" Grace said. Rose ran over to Grace and gave her a hug.
"Hi Auntie Grace! Are you and my mommy going to have fun today?" Rose said and asked. Grace nodded.
"Yes we are. We have to get going but we'll see you guys in a little bit, okay?" Grace asked. We all nodded. Y/n walked over to me and placed a gentle kiss on my lips.
"I wish Jake wasn't sleeping so I could say goodbye to him." Y/n said. I chuckled.
"Honey, it's not like you're going to be away for days. We'll be fine." I said. Grace overheard this and nodded.
"They're going to be fine Y/n, stop worrying, and let's go relax." Grace said. Y/n nodded as she hugged Rose goodbye. Rose and I stood in the doorway and watched as Y/n's car left and we waved. Once the car was out of sight, I turned to Rose and brought her into the living room.
"Alright my sweet pea. What do you want to do?" I asked. Rose thought for a moment before crawling into my lap.
"Cuddle." She said. I wrapped my arms around her.
"You want to cuddle?" I asked. She nodded as she put her head on my shoulder and buried her face in my neck.
"Yeah. I like to cuddle with you Daddy." She said. I smiled and rubbed her back.
"I like to cuddle with you too." I said. She soon fell asleep, and I decided to carry her upstairs so she could cuddle with me in my bed. After getting underneath the covers, I fell asleep. Not too long after I had fallen asleep, I was woken up to something smacking me. I opened my eyes to see Rose standing over me with a pillow in her hands.
"Pillow fight time!" She said. I laughed.
"Oh you're so on." I said as I quickly grabbed a pillow. I hit her with the pillow, but not very hard.
"Daddy you can barely hit." She said.
"Well I don't want to hurt you." I said. She smacked me again.
"I'll be fine, I promise." She said. I shook my head, but when I hit her this time, it was a little harder. We went back and forth until suddenly, I hit her too hard, and she fell off the bed.
"ROSIE!" I yelled. I heard her start to cry. I ran over to where she was laying on the floor. "Are you hurt?"
"My arm hurts and my head hurts." She said. Oh no.
"Okay, let's go downstairs and put some ice on it." I said as I picked her up and carried her downstairs. Once I got to the living room, I put her on the couch and ran into the kitchen to get some ice. When I put the thing of ice on Rose's arm, she screamed.
"OW DADDY." She yelled.
"Okay, I think that I'm going to take you to the hospital." I said, more to myself than to her. I went and woke up Jake and then I took both of my kids to the car. Rose was still crying when we got to the hospital. I filled out the paperwork and as the three of us waited, I called Y/n.
"Hi Shawn, is everything okay?" Y/n asked when she picked up.
"Well, don't panic, but Rose and I were having a pillow fight and I accidentally hit her too hard and now we're at the hospital because her arm and head hurt." I said.
"WHAT?" Y/n yelled.
"Everything's fine, I'll keep you updated, I promise." I said. I heard my wife sigh.
"Okay. Tell her I love her." Y/n said. I nodded even though she couldn't see me.
"I will. Please don't worry about us and just enjoy your time with the girls, okay?" I pleaded.
"Okay. I love you." Y/n said. I smiled.
"I love you too. Bye." I said.
"Bye." Y/n said, and we hung up. I turned to Rose.
"Mommy says that she loves you." I said. Rose nodded.
"I love her too." Rose said. We were soon called into a room and, as Rose sat on the bed and Jake sat on my lap, I explained to the doctor what happened.
"Well, it looks like she broke her wrist, and has a mild concussion." The doctor said. I nodded as he told me what to do to help her heal, and after they wrapped Rose's arm in a cast, the three of us left. I put Jake back down for his nap and had Rose lay down too. I put my head in my hands before deciding to call my mom. I had already told Y/n that we were home from the hospital.
"Hi Shawn!" My mom, Karen, said.
"Hi Mum." I said.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"I'm such a terrible father." I said.
"What are you talking about honey?" My mom asked. I told her everything that had happened. "Listen to me Shawn, she was the one saying that you weren't hitting hard enough, plus sometimes you don't realize how strong you are."
"Yeah. I just feel so bad. I gave my own daughter a broken wrist and a concussion." I said.
"Honey, everything's okay. Rose still loves you and it was an accident." She said. I nodded even though she couldn't see me.
"Yeah. Okay. Well I think that I'm just going to watch Netflix or something." I said.
"Okay sweetheart. You take care, alright?" My mom said and asked.
"I will." I said.
"Give my love to everyone." She said.
"I will. Love you Mum." I said.
"I love you too honey." She said, and we hung up. Y/n soon came home.
"Where's Rose?" Y/n instantly asked.
"Sleeping. Can I ask you a question?" I asked Y/n as she walked over to me and sat down next to me. She nodded.
"Of course." She said.
"Am I a bad father?" I asked, looking away from my wife, who then straddled me and held my face in her hands so I would have to look her in the eyes.
"No, of course not. Where did you get that idea?" Y/n asked.
"Y/n, I gave my own daughter a concussion and a broken wrist." I said. Y/n shook her head.
"Shawn, it was an accident, and it's not like Rose is mad at you, right?" She asked.
"Right." I said.
"See. You took charge and brought her to the hospital. You knew exactly what to do. Shawn Peter Raul Mendes, you are an amazing father. Please don't ever think otherwise, okay?" Y/n asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Okay. How about we cuddle while the kids rest?" I asked. Y/n smiled and nodded as she got off my lap.
"I would love that." She said. We both laid down on the couch and she put her head on my chest. I kissed the top of her head.
"Did you have a nice time out with the girls?" I asked my lovely, amazing wife as I rubbed her back. She nodded her head against my chest.
"Yeah. I was worried about Rose, but other than that, it was really nice." She said.
"Good. I missed you." I said. Y/n looked up at me and smiled.
"I missed you too. I love you." She said. I gave her a big, wide smile.
"I love you too." I said. It took Rose a few weeks to recover, but soon she was back to normal. No more pillow fights.
