133. Twins
A/n: okay so this is a very long imagine, so I apologize but can you imagine Shawn as a dad because omg my heart. Okay, please enjoy. Let's begin!
I had another bout of morning sickness immediately after I got up one morning. Shawn had left a note saying that he had to go to a meeting but he would be back home in a few hours. I suddenly realized that I had missed my period. I called my best friend Grace.
"Hey Y/n, what's up?" She asked.
"I need to ask for a favor." I said.
"Sure, what is it?" She asked.
"Can you please go to the store and get me some pregnancy tests?" I asked nervously.
"WHAT?" She asked while yelling.
"I need you to buy me some pregnancy tests. I'll pay you back, I promise." I said.
"Okay, I'll buy them and then I'll be right there. Wait, where's Shawn?" She said and asked.
"At some meetings. He won't be back for a few hours." I said.
"Okay. I'll be right there." She said.
"Okay, thank you, bye." I said.
"No problem. Bye." She said. We hung up she soon arrived with some pregnancy tests.
"Thank you so much. How much did they cost?" I asked her. Grace told me and I got some money out of my wallet and gave it to her.
"You seem so nervous right now. I've seen you nervous before, but nothing quite like this." Grace said as we headed upstairs.
"Yeah. I mean, we've been trying for a baby, but what if he actually doesn't want a baby with me?" I asked as I put some of the tests on the sink. She had bought me five of them. Grace took my hands in hers.
"Y/n, listen to me: if you guys have been trying to get pregnant, then obviously he wants a baby with you! Do you want me to wait in your bedroom while you pee on the sticks?" She said and asked. I sighed and nodded.
"Yes please." I said. She nodded and left the bathroom. I did what I needed to do, washed my hands, and stepped into my bedroom.
"Now we wait, right?" Grace asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I sat down next to her. The timer seemed to take forever but also went speeding by all at the same time and soon beeped. I looked at Grace. She squeezed my hands.
"Go check." She said. I got up and went into the bathroom. I looked at the first stick, it was positive, then the second one, positive, they were all positive. I walked back out to the bedroom and smiled at Grace.
"They're all positive." I said. She ran over and hugged me.
"Yes! Congratulations!" She said. Tears formed in my eyes.
"Thank you." I said.
"Why are you crying?" Grace asked with a frown.
"I'm really happy but I'm also really nervous to tell Shawn." I said. Grace pulled me over to the bed so we could sit down.
"Y/n Mendes, he is your husband and he is going to love you and support you no matter what. He's going to be over the moon about this! How are you going to tell him?" She asked. I chewed at my bottom lip and thought for a moment.
"Honestly, I have no clue." I said with a small laugh.
"You could always just show him the pregnancy tests and do it that way." She said. I nodded. My phone dinged, I had gotten a text from Shawn.
Shawn: Hey there Mrs. Mendes, my wifey, I'm on my way home.
Me: Hi Mr. Mendes. Okay I'll see you when you get home. Drive safe.
"He's on his way home." I said to Grace. She nodded.
"Well that's my cue to leave. Text me and tell me how it goes please!" She said. I smiled and nodded.
"Thank you again for getting the pregnancy tests." I said to her as I hugged her goodbye.
"You're welcome. Love you." She said.
"I love you too." I said, and she left. I sat down on the couch, turned on my favorite television show, and played with my fingers, a nervous habit I have. Soon, my amazing husband walked in the door. He looked at me and smiled as I stood up to give him a hug.
"Hi Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said. I love it when he calls me his wife or Mrs. Mendes. I'm confident that it will never get old. I smiled.
"Hi there Mr. Mendes." I said. Our arms were still wrapped around each other but he lifted his hand up to rub my lips with his thumb. He smiled, and seeing those pearly whites which are practically artwork, caused me to smile.
"These lips are mine. They may be on your body, but I'm the only one who can kiss them." Shawn said. I nodded.
"Well your lips are mine. Maybe our lips should meet and get to know eachother better." I said with a smirk. Shawn immediately put his lips on mine. I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks on the fourth of July, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, and I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy. Shawn and I pulled away, gasping for air after our rather passionate kiss.
"Maybe we should go upstairs and continue to try and make a baby, yeah?" Shawn asked. Oh gosh.
"That sounds amazing, but I have to show you something." I said. Shawn groaned while throwing his head back. I became nervous for some reason. Is he really going to be over the moon about this like Grace said he would be?
"Can it wait until afterwards please?" Shawn asked when he finally looked at me again. I shook my head no.
"Nope. It's important." I said as I took his hand and led him up the stairs and into our bathroom.
"Why are we going into the bathroom honey?" Shawn asked. I pointed at the pregnancy tests.
"Because of these." I said. Shawn's eyes widened and he took a closer look at them.
"Wait, does this mean, are we... are we pregnant?" Shawn asked. I nodded my head.
"Yeah. We don't have to keep trying because we did it Shawn." I said. Shawn looked at me with tears in his eyes and he gently pulled me in for a hug. I could feel his tears on my neck since he had his head buried there.
"Oh my gosh Y/n, we're going to be parents. Oh my gosh honey." Shawn said as he pulled away.
"Are you happy?" I asked. Shawn's eyes widened.
"Of course I'm happy. Why wouldn't I be?" Shawn said and asked. I looked down and shrugged.
"I don't know. I guess I just got worried that maybe you wouldn't want a baby with me." I said. Shawn took his finger and lifted my head up so I was looking at his caramel colored eyes.
"Honey, I have always wanted a baby with you. I'm over the moon happy. Are you happy?" Shawn asked. I smiled and nodded as my nerves drifted away.
"Yeah. Shawn, we're going to be parents. I'm going to be a mom, and you're going to be a dad!" I said, tears now streaming down my face. Shawn gently pulled me in for a hug.
"Oh my love, I'm so happy. Wait, did anyone see you buy these?" Shawn asked as he suddenly pulled away from the hug.
"No. I didn't buy them." I said. Shawn cocked his head to the side and gave me a look of confusion.
"What?" He asked.
"Um, so, Grace bought them and she was kind of the first person besides me to know that we're pregnant. You're not mad that she found out before you, are you?" I said and asked. Shawn shook his head no.
"No, of course not. I'm glad that she bought them and that she was there for you. I'll pay her back next time I see her." Shawn said. I waved my hand and shook my head.
"I already paid her back." I said. Shawn nodded.
"Okay." He said.
"I have to go text her and tell her that I was nervous about your reaction for nothing and that she was absolutely right." I said. Shawn chuckled but gently grabbed my wrist and pulled me back so he could place a kiss on my lips.
"I love you." He whispered when we pulled away. I smiled at him.
"I love you too." I said. I pulled my phone.
Me: You were right! He's ecstatic!
Grace: I told you so!
I laughed and put my phone away. Shawn sat next to me on the bed.
"I can't wait until you're showing." Shawn said. I laughed.
"Yeah." I said.
"Honey?" Shawn asked, and I could tell that he was nervous for some reason.
"Yes my love?" I asked.
"Can I, um, can I put my hand on your belly?" He asked. I turned my body so I was fully facing him and held his hands in mine.
"Shawn, you're my husband. If you want to randomly touch my stomach, you can. You're my husband and this is your baby too. You can touch my belly as much as you want and whenever you want." I said with a smile. Shawn smiled at me and then laid down on his side of the bed.
"Come lay next to me honey." Shawn said. I laid down next to me and he lifted up my shirt enough so he could put his hand on my belly. He then leaned down and placed a small kiss on my stomach, causing tears to form in my eyes. He then kept his hand on my stomach and smiled at me but then frowned. "What's wrong?"
"That was really cute of you - you kissing my belly." I said. Shawn smiled.
"Well my little one is in there." He said. I smiled and nodded.
"Shawn, are you ready for this? The appointments, the morning sickness - which I've already started, the hormones, the cravings and everything?" I asked. He nodded.
"Yeah. I'll do whatever it takes for our little one." Shawn said. We smiled at each other.
"We should make an appointment for the doctor's." I said. Shawn nodded. Soon, we had an appointment with Dr. Ackles. I was nervous for it. I wanted to make sure that our baby was okay.
"Why are you nervous honey? And don't tell me that you're not, because I know you, and I can tell you are." Shawn asked and said.
"What if there's something wrong with the baby Shawn?" I asked. Shawn kept his hand on my thigh, just like he always did. He squeezed my thigh.
"The baby's going to be fine honey. We're here." Shawn said. We were soon brought into a room and the doctor came in.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Ackles. Nice to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Mendes." She said as she shook our hands.
"Hi. Nice to meet you too." We said. She put some gel on my stomach and moved the thing around.
"Oh wow." She said. I held Shawn's hand.
"What's wrong? Is our baby okay?" I asked, squeezing Shawn's hand. He squeezed back.
"Your babies are fine." Dr. Ackles said.
"Okay good. Wait - babies? Plural?" Shawn asked. Dr. Ackles nodded.
"Yup. You're having twins. Congratulations!" Dr. Ackles said. Shawn and I looked at each other with tears in our eyes.
"Oh my gosh. Twins." I said. Dr. Ackles wiped off the gel and laughed.
"Yup. Two heartbeats. It's too early to tell the genders but you're a month along. Come back in two months and we'll let you know what the genders are." Dr. Ackles said, and after giving us the pictures of the twins that were residing in my belly, she left. Shawn and I looked at each other.
"Twins. Are you happy about this?" I asked Shawn. He smiled and nodded. He wiped away his tears with his free hand - he was still holding my hand.
"Very. Oh my gosh. Are you happy about this?" Shawn asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Yeah. Can we go home now please?" I asked. Shawn nodded again and we soon arrived at home. We got into bed and cuddled up to each other. The only person who knew about our pregnancy besides us was Grace.
"When are we going to tell our families?" Shawn asked as I put my head on his chest and he put one arm around my shoulders and the other arm on my belly.
"What if we wait until we find out the gender? Does that sound good?" I asked my amazing husband. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah." He said. A couple of weeks later, my mom and dad wanted my brother, his wife, Shawn and I to go over to the house that my brother and I grew up in just to hang out. We all sat there and talked.
"Y/n, can I talk to you in the kitchen?" My mom asked me. I nodded and walked into the kitchen with her.
"Yeah." I said. We went in the kitchen and my mom smiled at me.
"So how far along are you?" My mom asked.
"What?" I asked.
"Oh come on honey. Shawn's been so much more gentle with you and he keeps asking you if you're comfortable and you're okay. How far along are you?" She asked. I sighed.
"Two months, but you can't tell anybody." I said. She smiled really wide.
"I won't. Oh yay! So you don't know the gender of the baby yet?" She asked.
"Well... we don't know the genders of the babies yet." I said, hoping that she would understand what I was saying, and when her eyes widened, I could tell that she did.
"Oh my gosh. There's more than one?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yup. There's two." I said.
"Oh my gosh! Oh I'm so happy for you guys!" She said. I laughed.
"Thank you. Let's go back before people get suspicious." I said. She nodded and Shawn sent me a questioning look when he saw me. I sat down on his lap like I had been before.
"What was that about?" He whispered in my ear.
"I'll tell you later." I whispered back. He smiled at me and kissed my cheek, causing me to smile. We soon said goodbye to everyone and drove home. As soon as we got in the car, Shawn started to talk.
"So what was that about?" He asked.
"My mom noticed how you've been more gentle with me and asking me if I'm comfortable and if I'm okay and basically now she knows that we're going to have twins but she promised that she wouldn't tell anyone." I said.
"Oh, okay. Well, as long as she doesn't tell anyone, we're good." He said. We soon got home and the next month we went to the doctor's. We got a slip of paper that had the genders on them. We were going to have a gender reveal party. We decided to tell our families and friends and the world before the party.
"Hi Y/n, hi Shawn!" Karen, Manny, and Aaliyah said to us over facetime.
"Hi!" Shawn and I said.
"What's up?" Manny asked.
"Well, we're going to need you guys to fly down here." Shawn said. They all suddenly look panicked.
"What's wrong?" Karen asked. Shawn smirked.
"Nothing, we would just like to have you guys here for a gender reveal party." Shawn said. All of their jaws dropped.
"Wait, does that mean that you're pregnant Y/n?" Karen asked. I nodded.
"Yup. I'm three months along." I said with a smile. Karen started to cry, Manny got teary eyed, and Aaliyah smiled.
"There's one more thing." Shawn said.
"What is it?" Manny asked.
"We're not going to be revealing just one gender." Shawn said.
"OH MY GOD THERE'S MORE THAN ONE BABY?" Karen yelled. We laughed.
"Yup. There's two." I said. They all cheered. They said that they would be there at the party, and we soon hung up. The next day, we told my family, and they were all excited too. A few days later, we told our friends, and they were all ecstatic. The next week, Shawn posted a picture of his hands on my belly on Instagram. I read the caption.
"My wife Y/n and I are so beyond happy and proud to announce that in six months, there will be not only one baby Mendes, but two. My wife is currently three months along, carrying our little ones. I'm a proud husband and future daddy." Shawn wrote. I posted a picture of Shawn kissing my belly and wrote a caption.
"I'm so happy to say that Shawn and I are expecting two little ones. I can't wait to see them. I'm also happy to say that I'm starting to show! Shawn's ecstatic about that. Shawn, myself, our friends, and family are all over the moon about the babies." I wrote. Shawn read it and smiled.
"That was such a terrible caption." I said, feeling frustrated.
"Babe, it's fine, it's perfect. Don't worry and come cuddle with me." Shawn said. I gladly obliged and laid down next to him.
Two weeks later, Shawn and I set up the reveal party. Grace was the only one who knew the genders, besides the doctor of course. Grace got two boxes and filled both of them with balloons, and the balloons would either be pink for a girl, or blue for a boy. When we got the signal, Shawn and I would each open a box and see the colors of the balloons.
"What do you want the genders to be?" I asked Shawn as he wrapped his arms around my waist. By now, I was four months pregnant.
"I think that it's going to be one boy and one girl. I can feel it." Shawn said. I smiled.
"I hope it's two girls." I said. Shawn smiled at me and kissed my forehead. "Hey baby?"
"Yes my love?" Shawn asked.
"I just want to say thank you because you've been absolutely amazing so far. You've been helping me with my hormones and my cravings and everything. Thank you for that." I said. Shawn smiled.
"You're welcome Y/n." Shawn said. Soon, everyone, family and friends, were gathered in our backyard.
"Okay, open the boxes on three, okay?" Grace said. Everyone, or at least almost everyone, got their phones out to start recording. Shawn and I nodded.
"Okay." We said. She soon got to three, and when I opened my box, I saw blue balloons, and when I looked over at Shawn's open box, I saw pink balloons. Shawn was right! Him and I ran over to each other and he picked me up and spun me around a little. Everyone cheered.
"Oh my gosh! You were right!" I said. Shawn laughed, we both had tears rolling down our faces. Everyone came up to us and hugged us to congratulate us. Shawn kept bragging about the fact that he called it, causing me to laugh and smile. We posted the video of us revealing the genders on Instagram, and the comments were nothing but positive.
Five months later, I was standing in the kitchen when I felt my water break. I yelled for Shawn and he immediately came running over.
"What's wrong? Oh my gosh are you in labor?" He asked. I nodded and he helped me out to the car. We soon arrived at the hospital, our families waiting outside, the only person in the room with me besides the doctors and nurses was Shawn.
"Okay, we're going to need you to push, okay Mrs. Mendes?" Dr. Ackles asked.
"Okay." I said. Shawn held my hand and kissed my forehead. After a few hours, I heard one cry, and Shawn looked over and smiled.
"Is that my son?" He asked.
"Yup, this is your little boy." Dr. Ackles said. Shawn cut the umbilical cord. Next, I heard another cry, but then the cry stopped.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"She inhaled a lot of amniotic fluid. We need to get this out of her." Dr. Ackles said. I squeezed Shawn's hand and we looked at each other. We heard the cut of an umbilical cord.
"What's going on with our little girl?" I asked. Shawn tried to look over at wherever they took our baby.
"What happened?" Shawn asked. I soon heard them start to count minutes. Oh my gosh.
"Shawn?" I whimpered.
"I know honey, I know." He said. I then heard crying again.
"Is she okay?" I asked.
"She needs to go to the NICU, but you can see her for a moment." Dr. Ackles said, bringing my little girl over to me. Shawn and I started to cry when we saw how beautiful she was.
"What happened?" Shawn asked.
"She had what's called meconium aspiration syndrome, or just MAS. It's when the baby inhales some of the fluid that was inside the womb. We're going to take her to the NICU now." Dr. Ackles said. I looked at Shawn.
"Make sure one of the grandparent's follows and stays with her please." I said. Shawn nodded and went outside of the room. I put my head back and started to cry. What if something happened to my baby? I didn't even realize that a couple of the nurses were still in the room.
"She's going to be okay Mrs. Mendes, we just need to keep an eye on her." One of the nurses said.
"Where's her brother?" I asked. I hadn't gotten to see him yet.
"He's right here, would you like to hold him?" The other nurse asked. I smiled and nodded as I sat up.
"Yes please." I said. She handed my son to me.
"Here you go." She said. I cried as I held him in my arms. He had curly hair just like Shawn but I couldn't tell his eye color since his eyes were closed.
"Hi there. I'm your mommy. Daddy isn't here right now but he'll be back soon. You're so beautiful." I said. I admired him for a few more seconds before Shawn came back in. He smiled when he saw me holding our son.
"Hi there my baby boy," Shawn said. "You're so beautiful. I love you so much my little guy."
"Do you have a name for your babies?" A nurse asked. I looked at Shawn and smiled.
"Our little girl is Amelia Maggie Mendes, and our little boy is Logan Joseph Mendes." Shawn said. I looked down at Logan.
"So the grandparents are with Amelia?" I asked, not taking my eyes off of my son.
"Yeah. They're all worried about her." Shawn said. I looked up at my husband with tears in my eyes.
"I thought that we were going to lose her." I said, tears now running down my face. Shawn took the pad of his thumb and wiped my tears away.
"I know. I thought that too. But she's in the NICU now and they're going to take good care of her. Everything's okay." Shawn said before kissing my forehead. I smiled and nodded. "I'm proud of you honey."
"For what?" I asked, feeling confused.
"Honey, you carried two babies in you for nine months! And then you did an amazing job during labor. You're so strong and so amazing. You gave me the gift of becoming a father and I can't thank you enough for that." Shawn said, getting choked up when he said the last sentence. I puckered up my lips, causing Shawn to chuckle, but he leaned down and placed a gentle and loving kiss on my lips.
"When should we announce their births to the world?" I asked Shawn. He thought for a moment.
"Let's at least wait until tomorrow. I want to know how Amelia's doing." Shawn said. I nodded. Logan opened his eyes.
"Oh my gosh Shawn look." I said.
"He has my eyes." Shawn said, and I could hear the pride in his voice.
"He does. And he has your hair too." I said.
"Yeah but everything else is you, my love." Shawn said. I nodded. A nurse soon came in to check on Logan, and he was fine.
"My arms are getting tired. Do you want to hold him?" I asked Shawn. He suddenly looked nervous.
"What if I drop him or something?" Shawn asked. I shook my head.
"You're not going to drop him." I said with a giggle. Shawn gently and carefully took our soon out of my arms and held him. Shawn smiled while looking at his son, his new pride and joy.
"I love you Logan Joseph Mendes. You are so loved by so many people." Shawn said. I smiled.
"Do you mind if I rest? I'm really tired." I said. Shawn shook his head and smiled at me.
"Go ahead babe. You earned it." He said.
"Please let me know if there's any updates on Amelia." I said. Shawn nodded.
The next day Amelia was out of the NICU. The doctors said she was fine and we would be able to take her and her brother home the next day. Once we got our babies home, Shawn held both of them in his arms as he sat down on the couch. I took a picture of it, and that's the photo that Shawn posted on Instagram to announce their births. I read the caption.
"Three days ago, my amazing wife gave birth to our two little ones. Our son, Logan Joseph Mendes, came out fine, but our daughter, Amelia Maggie Mendes gave us a bit of a scare when she inhaled amniotic fluid and had to be taken to the NICU. Luckily, she is now one hundred percent better. Mommy and babies are all okay. I'm a proud husband, and now, I'm a proud father. Welcome to the world Amelia and Logan." Shawn wrote.
I smiled and posted a picture of me holding the babies when we were still in the hospital. My mom had taken the picture, and Shawn could be seen in it, looking so happy with a big smile on his face. I wrote a caption.
"Welcome to the world Amelia Maggie Mendes and her big brother Logan Joseph Mendes. Amelia gave Shawn and I quite a bit of a scare, but she's okay now thankfully. I never thought that I could love someone or something as much as I love my two babies, but they proved me wrong. The both of them are mine and Shawn's pride and joys. Amelia and Logan, you two are very, very loved, please know that." I wrote. Shawn smiled at the caption.
"I think that I'm the happiest man alive." Shawn said to me when the babies were asleep in their cribs and Shawn and I were getting into bed so we could sleep. I nodded.
"I think that I'm the happiest woman alive." I said. Shawn smiled and we cuddled up to each other.
"Mrs. Mendes?" Shawn asked. I looked up at him.
"Yes Mr. Mendes?" I responded.
"I don't want them to get any bigger. I want them to stay this small." Shawn said, causing me to quietly giggle.
"I know, but that's unrealistic." I said. Shawn sighed. I kissed his jaw, causing him to smile. He then kissed my nose, causing me to scrunch it up, which made him chuckle quietly. "I can't wait to lose this baby weight. I hate the way that I look."
"Hey, hey, hey, stop that. You have that baby weight because you carried two living beings in your belly. Don't hate the way that you look honey, because I know that you look stunning." Shawn said. I smiled and nodded as I put my head back on his chest and closed my eyes.
"Thank you. Good night Shawn. I love you." I said.
"You're welcome. Good night Y/n. I love you too." Shawn said, and with that, I fell asleep as one happy wife and mumma.
