117. Puppy

A/n: So I'm a bit late on this because Shawn posted this picture of him and Penelope (and a Corona Extra beer lol) a few days ago, but I thought that this would be cute. Also, I think that I might have already done an imagine like this, but I saw this picture and my heart burst with happiness and love so yeah I wanted to write something like that again. Minor explicit language in this one! Anyways, I really hope that you guys enjoy it! Okay, let's begin!

Shawn was up in Toronto with his friends and family for the holidays, meanwhile, I was at our home in Boston. My family was holding a get together for the holidays and both Shawn and I wanted to be with our families to spend quality time with them. It's not like Shawn and I wanted to be away from each other, in fact, we hated it, but we liked this quality family time.

I got a notification on my phone. Shawn had posted a picture on Instagram of him holding a dog up against him in one hand and a Corona Extra beer in his other hand. He must have been hanging out with his friends. According to Shawn's caption, the dog's name was Penelope. I instantly texted Shawn when I saw the photo.

Me: YOU'RE WITH A DOG???

Shawn: Yes lol.

Me: I WANT TO PET THE PUPPER.

Shawn: Lol honey. Love you.

Me: Love you toooo.

When I was ten, my family and I got a dog named Bella. But then, when I was seventeen, we couldn't afford her and the vet bills anymore, and we had to give her up for adoption. It killed me to do that. She had been my best friend. But I knew that what we were doing was the thing that was best for her.

After seeing the picture of Shawn with the dog and texting him about it, I got to thinking about it. There are hypoallergenic dogs out there. If Shawn and I got a hypoallergenic dog, Shawn wouldn't have a reaction to the dog because it wouldn't shed. Ever since we put Bella up for adoption, I've wanted a dog. When Shawn's gone, I get so lonely. Maybe I wouldn't be so lonely if there was a dog with me.

I went on Pinterest and did research on dogs that are hypoallergenic, wanting to have all of my facts straight for when I bring this topic up with Shawn. The day after Christmas, Shawn flew home. It was morning when Shawn walked through the door and I immediately ran to him and jumped into his arms. My legs wrapped around his waist, my arms went around his shoulders and neck, and his hands were under my bum, holding me nice and securely.

"Hey there darling. Did you miss me?" Shawn asked me as my head rested on his shoulder. I nodded against his shoulder.

"Hi honey. I did miss you. Did you miss me?" I asked as I pulled my head away so I could look at his gorgeously handsome face. He nodded at me with a smile on his face.

"I did, very much so. I love you my dear." Shawn said. My smile widened.

"I love you too." I said. Shawn said as he set me down on the floor.

"You know, I never got a welcome home kiss." Shawn pointed out while a smirk adorned his handsome face. I giggled and bit my lower lip.

"Well maybe we should fix that." I said. Shawn didn't hesitate at all. He immediately put his lips on mine. As soon as our lips made contact with each other, I felt my heart race like crazy, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, and I felt sparks shootout throughout my body like fireworks. God does this boy give me insane feelings. We pulled away from our passionate and amazing kiss, breathless. Shawn put his fingers to his lips and I did the same thing.

"Wow." Shawn said. I giggled and nodded.

"Yeah. I've missed your kisses Shawny. You give me such insane feelings." I said. Shawn kissed me again and we smiled as we pulled away from each other. Shawn rested his forehead against mine. I closed my eyes.

"I've missed your kisses too Y/n." Shawn said. Suddenly, I heard Shawn's stomach grumbled. Shawn and I laughed.

"Are you hungry my love?" I asked Shawn. He nodded as he took my hand and led me the few steps into the kitchen. As our hands touched, I felt sparks shoot through me, but I also felt safe and warm at the same time. Shawn always makes me feel so safe and warm, and when he holds me, it's like I'm in my home. Shawn's arms are my home, they're my safe place, my safe haven. I was snapped out of my thoughts and brought back into reality when I heard Shawn calling my name.

"Y/n? Baby?" Shawn asked. I turned to him.

"Hm?" I asked.

"Are you okay? You seemed a little spaced out for a second." Shawn asked and said. I nodded as I wrapped my arms around his waist and he wrapped his arms around my shoulders.

"Yeah, I was just thinking about the fact that your arms are my home, and you make me feel so safe and warm. Shawn, you give me such amazing and insane feelings. I love you so much honey." I said. Shawn smiled down at me before ducking down and put his lips on mine, giving me all of those same insane feelings again.

"You give me insane feelings too honey. I'm glad that I make you feel so safe and warm, and you know what?" Shawn asked. I smiled at him.

"What?" I asked. He kissed my forehead before speaking.

"You can always come home to my arms. Always." Shawn said. My smile widened and then I nuzzled my face into his chest. He kissed the top of my head. I pulled away and unwrapped myself from him.

"Thank you honey. What do you want to eat for breakfast?" I asked Shawn.

"You're not going to make me breakfast." Shawn said. I gave him a confused and puzzled look.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I haven't made breakfast for us in what feels like forever. Can I please make us some pancakes?" Shawn asked, giving me a pleading look. I smiled and nodded.

"Of course." I said.

"Yes!" Shawn cheered. I laughed and soon he picked me up and set me on the counter so I could watch him as he made our breakfast. Would now be a good time to bring up the fact that I want a dog? Maybe I'll wait until the pancakes are cooling down. Shawn always comes to stand in between my legs while the pancakes cool down. I stared at my gorgeously handsome boyfriend as he focused on the pancakes.

"Shawn?" I asked. He looked over at me with a smile.

"Yes love?" He asked.

"I'm in love with you." I said. Him and I have said this to each other about a million times before. His smile grew.

"Well that's good, because I'm in love with you too." Shawn said, causing my own smile to widen. When the pancakes started to cool down, Shawn came to stand in between my legs, per usual. He put his hands on my sides and rubbed my sides with his thumbs. I put my hands on his chest and let my hands wander up to his shoulders and then to his hair. Our eyes met and locked, never leaving each other and smiles never leaving our faces.

I suddenly got nervous. I needed to bring up getting a dog now, but how was Shawn going to react? Suddenly, a look of concern was etched across Shawn's face.

"Y/n? Are you okay honey?" Shawn asked. I nodded and smiled.

"Yeah." I said. He shook his head at me.

"Then why do you seem nervous and why did your smile fade a bit?" Shawn asked. Crap. I looked down, but Shawn took his index finger and lightly lifted my chin up so I could look into his comforting caramel eyes. "You know you can tell me anything right?"

"Yeah." I said as I nodded.

"Then please tell me what's going on inside that beautiful head of yours. I'm worried about you honey. Did something happen while I was away?" Shawn said and asked, concern still etched across his face. I felt so bad for making him this concerned. I shook my head no.

"No, I just, ugh, this is going to sound so stupid." I said, looking down again. Shawn cupped my face in his hands and made me look at him again.

"Listen to me, nothing, and I mean nothing you say is stupid, so don't ever say that, okay?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Okay." I said.

"Now please tell me what's going on." Shawn pleaded.

"Um, well, seeing that picture of you holding a dog made me really miss Bella. I mean, you know how much Bella meant to me and that she was my best friend," I said as Shawn now rubbed my sides with his thumbs, encouraging me to talk as he listened intently. He nodded. I continued. "I just, well, ugh, I'm sorry." I said as I started to cry. Shawn picked me up and took me off the counter. He wrapped his arms around me and rubbed my back.

"Shhh, it's okay honey, I'm here, you can talk to me, I'm here." Shawn said. I nodded and he helped to wipe some tears away with the pad of his thumb, his other hand still rubbing my back. His touch soothed me.

"When you're gone, and I'm all alone in the house, I feel so lonely sometimes. I always wish that you were here, and well, I just think that if I had a companion here with me, I might feel a little better." I said.

"I'm so sorry that you get so lonely when I'm away. You know that I'm just one phone call or text or facetime away, right?" Shawn said and asked. I nodded as a small smile made its way onto my face.

"Yeah." I said.

"So are you thinking that we should get a dog? Is that what you're trying to say?" Shawn asked. I nodded, nervous for his reaction.

"Yeah, I just think that a dog would be a good companion for me to have when you're gone, and I would take care of it, take it on walks and stuff like that, I promise. But if you don't want to get a dog, then that's okay too." I said rather quickly. Shawn pulled me into him so my face was nuzzled into his chest.

"First, honey, breathe. Can you do that for me?" Shawn asked. I pulled away and nodded.

"Yeah." I said before taking a deep breath in and then letting it out.

"Good job. Now, my only concern is that I'm allergic to dogs." Shawn said.

"Well, after I saw the picture of you and Penelope, I did some research and there are hypoallergenic dogs out there, so they don't shed and you wouldn't have a reaction to them. Bella was hypoallergenic." I said. Shawn thought for a moment before nodding.

"Okay. Do you think that you would want to get a dog that looked similar to Bella?" Shawn asked. I shook my head violently.

"No. That would be too much." I said. Shawn nodded and kissed my forehead.

"Okay. Would you rather a small dog, medium dog, or big dog?" Shawn asked. I didn't even have to think about my answer.

"Definitely not a big dog. I don't want a fucking bear in the house." I said with a giggle. Shawn threw his head back with laughter as he shook his head.

"Then we'll either get a small or medium sized dog." Shawn said. Wait, what?

"Wait, are you saying that we can get a dog?" I asked my amazing boyfriend. Shawn chuckled and nodded.

"Yes, that's what I'm saying baby girl. We'll go to the shelter this weekend and look at the dogs that they have." Shawn said.

"Wait - really?" I asked, starting to jump up and down. Shawn laughed and nodded.

"Yes, really." Shawn said. I unwrapped myself from Shawn's arms and started to run around the house, cheering.

"WE'RE GETTING A DOG! WE'RE GETTING A DOG!" I yelled. As I was doing my second lap around the house and ran into the living room, I tripped and fell. Shawn ran over to me.

"Baby? You okay?" Shawn asked. I jumped up and nodded.

"Yes! We're getting a fucking dog Shawn! I haven't had a dog in so long." I said, still bouncing up and down. Shawn put his hands on my shoulders to get me to stop jumping.

"Are you hurt physically?" Shawn asked.

"My knees hurt a little bit, but to be honest with you, I don't give a fuck. As long as I have you and a dog, I'm happy." I said. Shawn chuckled again and pulled me in for a hug. I was slightly out of breath from running around the house and then jumping up and down from excitement, but I was just really happy.

"You're too funny my love. Do you need to ice your knees?" Shawn asked, pulling away to look down at my knees. I shook my head no.

"No, I'm okay, really baby, I am. Now come on, let's eat." I said. Shawn took my hand and brought me over to the kitchen table. I sat down as Shawn grabbed our food and we ate our delicious pancakes that Shawn had made.

That weekend Shawn and I drove to the local animal shelter to pick out a dog. When we walked in, we asked a staff member if they had any hypoallergenic dogs, and they led us over to all of the dogs.

"This one is Arabella. She's a white bichon frise. They're very friendly and like to be loved. Plus, she's hypoallergenic." The staff member said. Shawn and I squatted so we could get a better look at Arabella.

"How old is she?" Shawn asked.

"She's six months old." The staff member said.

"You're so cute, yes you are, oh yes you are." I cooed to the dog. Shawn laughed.

"Do you even want to look at any others?" Shawn asked me. The staff member had walked away to give us some time. I shook my head at Shawn.

"I love her. She's so cute and perfect and oh my gosh. What do you think of her Shawn?" I asked nervously. He smiled at Arabella.

"I think that she's perfect too. Baby, I think we just found ourselves a pet." Shawn said. I perked up even more and my smile widened even more.

"Really? We can adopt her and take her home?" I asked Shawn. He nodded.

"Yup. Let me just go tell the staff member that we want to take her home." Shawn said as he stood up. I stayed with Arabella until the staff member came over.

Shawn and I bought a couple leashes - Shawn agreed to the pink leash that had some fake jewels on it - and a pink food and water dish, along with a pink and white striped collar. We bought Arabella a little doggie bed, but I think that Shawn and I both knew that Arabella would end up sleeping with us in our bed. Yup, this dog is going to be spoiled. We soon all got in the car and headed home. I held Arabella on my lap as I patted her.

"You really like her, don't you?" Shawn asked as he kept one hand on the steering wheel and reached one hand over to pet Arabella for a second. I looked at our new family member.

"I do. I love her." I said with a smile.

"I love her too." Shawn said. We soon walked in the door and set up Arabella's things. Once we were done, Shawn and I sat down on the couch. Arabella hopped up and crawled into Shawn's lap. His eyes widened but he smiled as he started to pet her back.

"Oh my gosh that is so cute." I said.

"Yeah." Shawn said. There was a comfortable silence for a moment as I rested my head on Shawn's shoulder.

"Thank you Shawn." I said, breaking the silence. He gave me a confused look as I picked my head up and looked at him.

"What are you thanking me for Y/n?" Shawn asked.

"For letting us adopt a dog and letting me pick out her leashes and stuff. I love you so much Shawn and I'm so grateful for you and everything that you do." I said. Shawn smiled at me and kissed my forehead as he continued to pet Arabella.

"You're welcome honey. I love you too, so, so, so much. I'm grateful for you too." Shawn said. I rested my head on Shawn's shoulder again and he rested his head on top of mine as we looked at the newest addition to our family.

"You have a forever home now Arabella." I said with a smile. I could hear Shawn smiling.

"Welcome home Arabella, welcome home." Shawn said.
