Chapter 28
Days drifted by with a steady, comfortable rhythm that Jungkook hadn’t experienced in years. What was once meant to be a temporary stay at the Kim mansion had transformed into something surprisingly peaceful, even transformative. The sprawling estate, with its grandiose architecture and echoing hallways, was far from his usual surroundings. But slowly, he began to feel at home here, wrapped in the warmth of his family’s presence and the joy that the simplest daily routines brought.
Jungkook felt this shift each day as he became more embedded in family life. He joined Arin on trips to Jungsoo’s pediatrician appointments, watching with a mixture of pride and awe as their tiny son endured vaccinations and checkups. He’d instinctively place a hand on Arin’s shoulder, drawing her close, as they both reassured the baby with soft murmurs and gentle caresses. Jungkook found himself easing into the role of a father with surprising ease. Where he once felt detached, now he felt the weight of responsibility mixed with a fierce, protective love he hadn’t realized he could feel.
Even his once distant demeanor began to soften, noticed by everyone in the household. He took to spending long afternoons in the family room, where Jungsoo would lie on a soft blanket, gazing up at him with wide, curious eyes. Often, So Mun, Taehyung and Miso’s son, would join them, his chubby hands reaching for anything within his grasp as he babbled and laughed in sheer delight. Jungkook would lean down, making funny faces or mimicking So Mun’s baby talk, drawing peals of laughter from both children. His brothers and sisters-in-law would glance at each other, sharing smiles of genuine warmth, seeing how naturally Jungkook now embraced these moments.
Evenings became a cherished ritual. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow across the mansion’s expansive gardens, the entire family gathered in the living room. The space, filled with comfortable furniture and family mementos, came alive with conversations, laughter, and shared memories. Jungkook’s parents, Jeon Soojin and Kim Minho, sat side by side, their hands occasionally brushing in unspoken affection. They would watch their children and grandchildren with quiet pride, basking in the lively energy that filled the room.
In the quiet evening, as soft lamplight filled the master bedroom of the Kim mansion, Jeon Soojin sat by the window, her gaze distant as she looked over the garden. The tranquil scene outside mirrored her feelings—she was content, yet a bit anxious. Kim Minho entered the room, noticing the thoughtful expression on her face. He walked over, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.
"You're still thinking about him, aren’t you?" Minho’s deep voice broke the silence, filled with a gentle understanding that only years of marriage could bring.
Soojin nodded, her hand instinctively going to cover his. "I can’t help it," she replied softly. "For so long, he was so distant... so closed off. And now, he’s finally here, close to us, to his family, even to Jungsoo. I just... I don’t want it to end so soon."
Minho sat down beside her, his face thoughtful. "You know, I’ve been watching him too. This is the first time in years I’ve seen him so... at ease. As if he’s finally allowing himself to feel what it means to belong here."
Soojin let out a soft sigh. "Exactly. He’s been staying with us for a few months now, and every single day, I see him bonding more with Jungsoo, with Arin, even with Taehyung and Miso. Did you see him playing with So Mun the other day? I could hardly believe it, This is all I ever wanted—to see my children together like this, to see Jungkook happy with his own family.”
she said, a smile tugging at her lips.
Minho’s mouth curved slightly, a glimmer of pride in his eyes. "Our son’s been through a lot, Soojin. He chose a difficult path, one we didn’t always agree with. But perhaps, all these experiences have finally brought him back to us... in his own way."
"Sometimes I wonder if he regrets any of it," Soojin murmured. "He’s lived so independently for so long, following his own choices. Do you think he feels any remorse for the distance that’s grown between us over the years?"
Minho was quiet for a moment, choosing his words carefully. "Regret? I don’t know. But I think he’s beginning to see the value of family in a way he may not have before. Look at the way he watches Jungsoo. He’s realizing what it means to protect something beyond himself."
Soojin’s expression softened at the mention of her grandson. "Jungsoo has changed him, hasn’t he? I see how he looks at his son. It’s almost as if he’s seeing a part of himself, a chance to do things differently."
"Maybe that’s what he needed all along," Minho agreed. "A reason to settle, to see beyond the thrill of his job. Arin, Jungsoo—they’ve given him that. A sense of purpose that’s anchored him in a way we never could."
Soojin turned to look at Minho, her eyes filled with warmth. "You know, he’s even softened toward us. Remember how stubborn he used to be, how he’d avoid any conversation about family gatherings or responsibilities? Now, he joins us in the living room almost every night. He talks, laughs, even indulges us with stories about his work, though I know he’s careful not to tell too much."
Minho chuckled softly. "Yes, he’s still guarded, but that’s just Jungkook. I’ve come to accept that he’ll always keep parts of himself hidden. But he’s here, and that’s enough. I’d rather have him like this, even if it’s only for a short while, than not have him at all."
A faint shadow passed over Soojin’s face. "But what if he leaves again? He mentioned going back to Busan soon. And as much as I want to be supportive, the thought of him being away from all of us again... it’s hard."
Minho reached out, taking her hand in his. "I know it’s hard, Soojin. But we have to trust that he’ll find his way back, whether it’s in weeks, months, or even longer. This time, he knows what he’s leaving behind. He won’t just disappear."
Soojin sighed, her shoulders relaxing as she took comfort in his words. "You’re right. I have to believe that he’ll come back, that he’ll realize we’re always here for him... that he’s not alone."
Minho gave her hand a gentle squeeze, his voice steady and reassuring. "And we’ll be here, waiting. For now, let’s cherish the moments we do have with him. He’s come a long way, and so have we. Sometimes... love is about being patient, letting them come to you in their own time. For the first time, I think he understands. He’s come a long way.” He paused, squeezing her hand gently. “This… is all because of you. You never gave up on him, Soojin.”
Soojin smiled softly, a glimmer of hope returning to her eyes. "Thank you, Minho. I needed to hear that."
They sat together in comfortable silence, each lost in their thoughts, both bound by the quiet understanding that their love for Jungkook would always be unwavering.
Their lives settled into this rhythm, where each day brought small but profound moments of connection. Taehyung and Miso, too, watched with amazement as Jungkook slowly, almost unknowingly, began to value the family bonds he once overlooked. Miso, who had recently returned to work as a psychologist, found herself reflecting on Jungkook’s transformation during her own introspective moments. Every morning, she’d prepare to leave for the clinic with a sense of peace, knowing her family was safe and growing closer. And Taehyung, though he rarely voiced his emotions, couldn’t hide the pride that flickered in his gaze when he saw his brother playing with the children or sharing easy conversations with Arin.
----
One day the morning sun gently streamed through the windows of the Kim mansion, casting soft rays across the spacious living room where Jeon Soojin sat quietly by the plush sofa, cradling her teacup in her hands. The house had grown more lively since Jungkook’s return, and while the energy was comforting, there was something tender and bittersweet about the current scene unfolding before her eyes.
So Mun, now nearly six months old, had grown so much. His inquisitive little face and his boundless energy were starting to resemble his father more and more each day. He had grown to love spending time with Taehyung and Miso, but today was different. So Mun was going to work with Miso, a change that tugged at Soojin’s heartstrings in unexpected ways.
She watched as Miso, looking every bit the professional she had always been, prepared to leave for the day. So Mun, wearing a little suit that made him look like a tiny businessman, was laughing, The sight made Soojin’s heart tighten, a wave of emotions flooding through her.
Soojin's mind wandered to the past, when she had been the young mother, eager to leave her own home in search of something more—something outside the walls of domestic life. Yet, she had always known the importance of family. Seeing So Mun about to head off to work with Miso—a woman who had grown to be so much like a daughter to her—filled Soojin with a deep sense of both joy and longing.
She smiled softly as So Mun giggled, wrapping his tiny hand around Miso’s, his face lighting up at the sight of his mother. But there was something else in Soojin’s eyes—a quiet wistfulness—as she realized how much her little boy was growing. He wasn’t the helpless infant anymore. He was becoming someone who could stand on his own, even if just for a little while.
"Take good care of him, Miso," Soojin called softly, her voice gentle, almost as if she were speaking to her own daughter. She reached out to give Miso’s hand a reassuring squeeze. "I know you will. And take care of yourself too, alright?"
Miso nodded, flashing Soojin a warm, understanding smile. “Don’t worry, Eomma. I’ll take care of him.”
As the door closed behind them, a quiet silence fell over the room. Soojin sat back, her fingers tracing the rim of her teacup. Her heart was heavy with the absence of her son, but it was a familiar feeling. It was the bittersweet joy of knowing your child was stepping into the world and discovering life beyond the comforts of home.
However, the heaviness didn’t last long.
A soft, gurgling sound from the cradle nearby caught Soojin’s attention, pulling her back to the present moment. There, nestled under a soft, pale blue blanket, was Jungsoo—her newest joy, the little bundle of life that filled the house with a sense of hope and peace. His tiny hands reached out as he wiggled and cooed, making soft babbling noises. Soojin’s heart softened immediately, and her lips parted in a smile as she rose from her seat.
“Oh, my little love,” she whispered, her voice laced with affection as she walked over to him.
Jungsoo’s round, curious eyes fixed on her as she bent down to gently lift him into her arms. His soft body fit perfectly against her chest, and as she cradled him, she could feel his warmth seep into her own, anchoring her back to the present. He was so tiny, so innocent, and in his gentle coos and quiet gaze, she found a kind of comfort that soothed the unease from earlier.
As Soojin walked over to the large armchair by the window, she seated herself carefully, gently rocking back and forth as she held Jungsoo close. The world seemed to slow around her, the house now a place of peace and serenity once more. With So Mun out for the day, it was just the two of them. And as she looked at Jungsoo’s small face, so trusting and unaware of the world outside, she couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
Gratitude for this new beginning.
“Your brother is so big now,” she murmured softly, pressing a kiss to the top of Jungsoo’s head. She chuckled quietly, watching as his tiny hands reached for her face, trying to grab her nose. “You’re still so small, but you’ll grow too, won’t you? You’ll be running around soon enough, just like So Mun.”
Jungsoo let out a soft squeal as his tiny hands grasped at her hair. Soojin couldn’t help but laugh, her heart lifting at the sight. She ran a finger along his tiny hand, feeling the softness of his skin, his warmth spreading through her.
And just like that, the moment of melancholy passed. The house wasn’t quiet. It was simply calm. It was filled with the promise of life, with So Mun off with Miso, and Jungsoo nestled safely in her arms. Her eyes drifted to the photographs on the wall—of her family, of the love they’d all built over the years. There had been so much pain, so much loss, but in this moment, she felt the comfort of knowing that, despite everything, they had made it this far together.
Jungkook was home. So Mun was thriving. And Jungsoo, her precious little boy, was here—her reminder of everything she’d hoped for.
“Maybe it’s time for me to stop holding on so tight,” she whispered softly, her voice barely a breath.
As she looked down at Jungsoo, her eyes softened. This was her time to let go a little, to allow So Mun the space to grow, and to help guide him from afar. The love she held for him would always remain, but today, with Jungsoo safely in her arms, Soojin knew she had to trust that everything would unfold as it should.
She closed her eyes, savoring the warmth of her baby in her arms, and took a long, steady breath. The world was moving, and so was her family. But she was right here, ready to take each day as it came.
-----
Little So Mun, as now nearly six months old, became a lively presence in the household. He could roll over on his own, reach for toys, and even babble in a language only he understood. His big eyes sparkled with curiosity, and his laughter filled the mansion with an infectious joy. Jungsoo, meanwhile, was just over two months old, his tiny hands grasping at Jungkook’s fingers as if recognizing the safety and love he found in his father’s presence. Even as such a young infant, he seemed to mirror Jungkook’s expressions—a furrowed brow, a surprised look, and, at times, a tiny, tentative smile. Together, these two children had become the heart of the family, bridging the silent gaps that had once kept them apart.
One day in the cozy living room of the Kim mansion, sunlight poured through the wide windows, casting a warm glow over the plush carpets and soft cushions scattered about. Jungkook was seated on the floor, legs crossed, as he watched So Mun crawl toward him with a determined little expression, his big, round eyes sparkling with curiosity. Beside him, in his lap, lay Jungsoo, swaddled in a soft blanket. His tiny fists waved in the air, occasionally reaching for Jungkook’s fingers.
“Look at you, So Mun,” Jungkook chuckled, extending his arms in an exaggerated gesture as if inviting a bear hug. “You’re coming right at me like a brave little warrior!”
So Mun paused, looking up at Jungkook, and then gave a small laugh, as if he understood the playful challenge. With renewed excitement, he plopped one chubby hand in front of the other, inching his way toward Jungkook, babbling in that adorable baby language only he understood.
When So Mun finally reached him, Jungkook scooped him up effortlessly, raising him in the air as he gave him a light spin. So Mun squealed with laughter, his little arms and legs flailing in joy, his giggles filling the room. Jungkook’s own laughter joined in, the sound deep and warm, as he lowered So Mun down to his chest and planted a gentle kiss on his forehead.
“There you go, little man,” Jungkook murmured, cradling So Mun close. “You’re as brave as a tiger, you know that?”
As if in response, So Mun patted Jungkook’s cheek with his small hands, his wide eyes fixed on him with a look of pure wonder and adoration. Jungkook’s heart swelled, and he couldn’t help but grin, watching the little boy mimic his expressions. He leaned forward, pressing his forehead against So Mun’s, their noses almost touching, as if sharing a secret.
While So Mun clung to him, Jungkook glanced down at Jungsoo, who was still comfortably nestled in his lap. His son gazed up at him with soft, curious eyes, his tiny fingers curling and uncurling as he cooed softly, his whole world focused on the warmth and safety of his father’s presence.
“Hey, little one,” Jungkook murmured, brushing his finger along Jungsoo’s chubby cheek. “Don’t think I’ve forgotten about you.”
Jungkook shifted slightly, positioning both boys so they could see each other, wondering if they could recognize the bond they already shared. So Mun peered at Jungsoo with wide eyes, almost in awe of the tiny baby lying so quietly in his father’s arms.
With one arm securely holding So Mun, Jungkook reached down and took Jungsoo’s tiny hand in his fingers. Jungsoo’s grip was surprisingly firm, and he let out a small squeal, his legs kicking in excitement as he latched onto his father’s finger.
“Oh, you’ve got quite a grip there!” Jungkook grinned, amazed by how even the smallest things these two boys did filled him with pride and wonder. “You’re going to be strong, just like your brother here.”
Jungkook looked back and forth between the two of them, marveling at the miracle of being a father to these little souls, each unique yet connected in a way that seemed almost magical. So Mun, more vocal, tried to babble something to his little brother, his voice filled with excitement and curiosity. Jungsoo responded with a soft coo, his wide eyes locked on his older brother as if trying to understand him.
“They’re going to be such a team,” he thought, his heart swelling at the thought of their future together. “Best friends, hopefully.”
He spent the next few minutes playing with both of them, letting So Mun crawl over his lap and around him while gently rocking Jungsoo in his arms. Jungkook let So Mun play with his hair, giggling as the little boy tugged on his locks, and then softly blowing raspberries against Jungsoo’s tiny hands, eliciting a soft laugh from the infant. Each sound, each smile, filled him with a warmth he hadn’t felt before, a kind of peace and completeness he didn’t know he was missing.
As he sat there, surrounded by his two boys, the room seemed to fade away. There were no worries about his job, no pressures of expectations—just the simple, pure joy of being his son father and his nephew’s uncle. And as he looked down at So Mun and Jungsoo, he promised himself that no matter where life took him, he’d do everything in his power to be there for them, to watch them grow and to make sure they always knew they were loved.
Arin, too, was a changed woman. Gone were the days when she masked her loneliness with forced smiles. Now, she radiated a quiet, genuine happiness that was evident in her every gesture, in the way she held Jungsoo close, in the softness of her gaze when she looked at Jungkook. She no longer bore the weight of hidden sorrow; her smiles were now genuine, her laughter light and free. The family noticed this transformation, and with it, they felt a renewed sense of unity.
Yet, as the months passed, reality crept back in. Jungkook knew he had to return to his work in Busan. A week before his departure, he shared the news over dinner. “I’ll be leaving next week,” he said, his voice low but steady, his gaze lingering on each family member.
A silence settled over the table as everyone processed his words. Jeon Soojin’s expression turned somber, her eyes reflecting the bittersweet weight of this moment. “You’re leaving already?” she murmured, almost to herself, sadness lacing her words. “I thought… I thought we had more time.”
Sensing her disappointment, Jungkook offered a faint smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “It’s just temporary, Mom,” he reassured her softly. “I’ll come back once my work there is done.”
Jeon Soojin, however, was not entirely appeased. After a thoughtful pause, she spoke again, her voice carrying a gentle yet insistent tone. “Jungkook, if you’re going back, why don’t you take Arin and Jungsoo with you? They deserve to be with you, don’t they? You could all be together. Wouldn’t that be better than leaving them here alone?”
Her suggestion caught Jungkook by surprise. He glanced at Arin, who looked equally taken aback, though she quickly masked her surprise with a small smile. He hesitated, his gaze dropping to his hands as he searched for the right words. “I don’t plan on staying in Busan forever,” he replied carefully. “I’ll be back soon…after I finish my work there. It’s... just temporary. There’s no need to uproot everyone.”
To his surprise, Kim Minho, for once, agreed with him. “Your mother’s right in thinking about your family’s wellbeing,” he began, glancing at Soojin before turning his attention back to Jungkook. “But Arin just had the baby. She needs rest and support here, not the chaos of Busan. Besides, she’s got responsibilities as CEO.”
Arin offered Jungkook a gentle smile, as if to reassure him that she understood. “ I too agree with that , isn't it good you all will be with me and jungsoo,” she said softly, her voice filled with quiet strength. “And as Jungkook said he'll be back soon.”
As the week slipped by, a feeling of melancholy began to settle over the household. On the morning of his departure, the entire family gathered at the grand entrance to bid him farewell. His mother embraced him tightly, her arms lingering as though reluctant to let him go. “Take care of yourself, Jungkook,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “And remember… this is your home. We’re your family.”
His father, ever stoic, placed a firm hand on Jungkook’s shoulder, giving him a silent nod of approval. It was a rare gesture, one that spoke volumes more than words ever could. Even Taehyung and Miso, standing together with little So Mun in Miso’s arms, looked at him with a mix of pride and sadness.
As he turned to Arin, she offered him a gentle, unwavering smile. Her eyes held an unspoken promise, one of patience and understanding. “Take care of yourself, Jungkook.” she murmured, her voice carrying a quiet strength that reassured him more than anything else.
He looked into Arin’s eyes, his voice gentle yet steady. “Take care of yourself too and Jungsoo’s also,” he said, his gaze lingering on her, hoping she felt the sincerity in his words. “And… if he ever gets fussy, just put on some music. He’ll probably calm right down,” he added with a faint smile, remembering the quiet evenings he’d spent humming to Jungsoo.
Arin nodded, her lips forming a soft, understanding smile. “We’ll be fine, Jungkook. ” Her voice was quiet, and he could see the emotion welling up in her eyes, though she tried to hide it.
Then, as if compelled by some unspoken bond, he turned to Taehyung and Miso, who were standing nearby, watching the farewell unfold. Taehyung gave him a brief nod, a look of pride mixed with brotherly warmth on his face, while Miso cradled So Mun, who was happily babbling in her arms. Jungkook bent down to gently ruffle So Mun’s hair, making the little one giggle.
“Take care of this guy for me, too,” he said to Miso, a soft grin breaking through. “And keep him in line, hyung,” he added, glancing up at Taehyung with a playful spark, his words half a joke, but also filled with genuine affection.
Miso chuckled, adjusting So Mun in her arms. “We’ll keep him out of trouble,” she promised with a wink. “And don’t make us wait too long for your return.”
Jungkook nodded, then turned to face his parents, who had been standing slightly apart, their faces filled with a mixture of pride, sorrow, and hope. His mother, Soojin, stepped forward first, her hand reaching out to cup his cheek with a tenderness only a mother could hold. She didn’t say much, just a quiet, “Stay safe, Jungkook.” But in her eyes, he saw all the words she didn’t need to speak: her pride, her love, her quiet worry.
He gently squeezed her hand, his voice soft. “I will, mom. Don’t worry.”
His father, Minho, stood beside her, his usually stoic face softened with a rare, approving smile. He placed a firm hand on Jungkook’s shoulder, and Jungkook felt the weight of his father’s strength and his quiet support.
As Jungkook stood at the doorway, taking in the sight of his family for what felt like the hundredth time, his gaze drifted down to Jungsoo in Arin’s arms. The tiny bundle squirmed a little, as if sensing that something important was happening. Jungsoo’s dark eyes stared up at him with an innocence that tugged at Jungkook’s heart.
He reached out, gently taking Jungsoo from Arin’s arms, cradling his son close. For a moment, he was silent, simply looking down at the tiny face that had grown so familiar and yet still felt new every time he held him. Jungsoo cooed softly, his small fingers curling instinctively around the collar of Jungkook’s shirt.
“Hey, little guy,” Jungkook murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. He felt the weight of his departure settle heavily in his chest, and he fought to keep his emotions steady. Gently, he leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to Jungsoo’s forehead, letting his lips linger for a moment as he breathed in the familiar baby scent of his son.
“You be good for your mom, okay?” he whispered, brushing a hand over the soft wisps of Jungsoo’s hair. “I’ll be back soon. I promise.”
Jungkook felt a surge of warmth as Jungsoo’s tiny hand rested against his cheek, as if in silent understanding. He pulled back just slightly, smiling as he saw his son’s sleepy eyes begin to close. It was a look of complete trust and peace, and Jungkook’s heart ached to leave him, even if only for a little while.
With a final glance back, Jungkook took in the image of his family standing together, their faces reflecting a mix of hope, pride, and love. As he walked toward his car, he felt an unfamiliar tightness in his chest—a feeling he could only describe as longing, as if a part of him wished he could stay.
With lingering glance at Arin and Jungsoo, he offered a quiet, “I’ll be back soon. Take care of each other.” And with that, he turned, walking toward the door, feeling the weight of his family’s love and support as he left, their presence a warmth that he knew would stay with him, even as the miles grew between them.
But none of them knew what awaited him in Busan. They couldn’t foresee the trials, the challenges, and the choices he would soon face. And as he drove away, leaving his family and this newfound peace behind, Jungkook carried their hopes with him, unaware of just how much his departure would change everything.

Author's Note:
Hey, lovely readers! First off, I just want to say a huge thank you for sticking with me! 💖 I know, I know... this chapter took a little longer than expected, but hey, life happened, right? I mean, who could resist a little extra time to reflect on how much we love these characters (and maybe also how much we wish we could live in their world for a day)?
But seriously, I can’t thank you enough for all your kind words and support. It’s like you guys are the best virtual family I could ever ask for—just without the awkward family gatherings and questionable Thanksgiving dinners. 😂 But hey, if you’re reading this, I guess you’ve already signed up for the drama, right? 😉
Now, about this chapter! Let’s talk about Jungkook being all heartwarming and cute with So Mun and Jungsoo. I mean, who knew our little detective could be such a softie? I bet even his ruthless dad would get a little misty-eyed if he saw how his son is basically melting under the weight of baby giggles. I’m just waiting for someone to walk into the room and catch him making silly faces at So Mun. We all know it’s coming, right? 😂
I also had a blast writing about Soojin’s quiet moment with Jungsoo. Like, she’s trying so hard to keep it together but is also so proud of her little one while simultaneously dealing with her emotions. It’s the motherly roller coaster, y’all. I mean, raise your hand if one day you will cry because your kid finally learned to say “mama”... just me? Okay, cool. 😅
Speaking of So Mun, can we just take a moment to appreciate how adorable he is in this chapter? I mean, if I had a baby that cute, I’d probably never leave the house. But hey, he’s got Miso to hang out with, so I’m sure he’s fine... unlike me, who’s still obsessing over his baby cheeks. You know you would too, right?
As we head into the next few chapters (I’m so excited to see where this is going), there might be some major surprises, some unexpected turns, and of course, a whole lot of emotional moments coming your way. But before we get all serious on you, let’s just take a second to soak in the joy and fluff—because who doesn’t need a bit of fluff after all the drama, right? 😆
Lastly, if you’re enjoying the story (and let’s be real, who wouldn’t?), please don’t forget to hit that vote button, drop a comment, and share this story with your friends! It really does mean the world to me, and it helps keep me motivated to write even when the plot bunnies are being lazy. 🐰
Thank you again, everyone! You’re the best, and I love you all more than Jungkook loves baby giggles (and that’s a lot). 😜
Until next time, stay awesome and keep smiling!
With all my love and fluff, StarlitWings ✨🌙
