LazyScales vs FirstChoice
Lazy Scales
Lewis looked up at Firstchoice, pinned to his back. He tried to shove the larger dragon off, but he couldn't even budge him. Firstchoice was just so much bigger, so much heavier than him. "And now, with the whole world watching," Firstchoice said, grabbing Lewis by the head and holding him steady, "I'm going to put an end to this. You should be happy. This is what you wanted. A might-makes-right society, where the strong rule and the weak serve." Lewis struggled as Firstchoice increased the pressure on his chest. He spat fire, tried to gnaw at talons, even went so far as to kick at Firstchoice's belly with his hind legs. Nothing worked. The larger dragon barely seemed to notice the attacks. My friends... my family... my dragons... I've let them all down! Lewis's mind screamed. After everything I went through to get back here! Everything I suffered! It can't end like this! I can't let it!
Then don't, Lazyscales's voice whispered in Lewis's mind. Don't let it end. Find a way out. But how!? He's so much stronger than me! How can I stand up to this!? I should just give up... Don't you dare think like that! Are you not a dragon!? Lazyscales barked. Are you not a son of the Wyrm tribe!? We are strong! We have power! Do not surrender to this pretender! Fight until your last breath! Until the fire in your throat is dead, you keep fighting! It is the only way to die with honor! Lewis clawed at Firstchoice's arm, desperately trying to pry it off. He managed to draw blood, but it still wasn't enough. He tried to bite, but Firstchoice held his head back. "Goodbye, boy," Firstchoice grinned. He opened his mouth wide and positioned it over Lewis's throat, prepared to lunge forward and bite down. Fire in my throat, Lewis's mind whirled. With a flash of an idea, Lewis reached out with his front talons and grabbed Firstchoice under the chin. He missed on his left side, but his right side found his target. There it was, a swollen, fleshy pocket right under Firstchoice's chin. The elder dragon's fire glands, full and ready for use. Lewis dug his claws into Firstchoice's chin and braced himself.
The explosion sent the red and white dragon careening into the air in a brilliant ball of fire. Lewis screamed in pain as fire and heat washed over him. No amount of tongue bathing would have protected him from this blast. He could feel the air burning in his lungs, and he coughed as he rolled out of the torrent of flame, barreling right into Flickerwisp. She'd been standing by the whole time, watching passively, but the sudden eruption had startled her enough to leave her off-guard. As Lewis knocked her over, he gave her a quick slam to the head with his tail. She was unconscious before even hitting the ground. Lewis's ears rang, and his vision swam dizzily. He couldn't hear anything, and he wanted to keel over and throw up on the spot. Firstchoice landed some twenty yards away, a blazing trail of fire in his wake. He struggled to his feet, his limbs shaking. His ears were bleeding, and the left side of his jaw hung loosely off his face. His mouth was moving, but Lewis couldn't hear him.
(I know it's not Wings of Fire but I cannot find anyone else who also enjoys this series. The series is Lazy Scales by DM Gilmore!)
