11. Live a Little
I gradually opened my eyes, squinting to adjust to the brightly lit room. I realised I was lying down on something soft, probably a bed. I winced in pain when as I sat up. My butt was sore and my head was throbbing painfully. As I sat up, I found Alex glaring at me with his arms crossed over his chest.
"What the fuck were you thinking?" Alex snapped.
God, is he pissed or what?
I ignored his outburst. "You carried me here?"
"Dragged you," he said. "Now, I'm gonna ask this one more time. What the fuck were you thinking?"
I sighed. Might as well just tell him how it was.
"I mistook you for someone else. Noah's one of my cousins and he's got the same black hair as you," I explained. "Your face wasn't properly visible from the distance and by the time I reached you, it was so dark that I couldn't make out your face."
"So you thought I was him?"
I shrugged before saying, "I know what I did was... stupid."
"Damn right it was," he said. His glare was unrelenting.
I raised a hand to touch my temple. I winced; there was a slight lump there. That was where Alex had head-butted me.
"I might've hit your head a little too hard and knocked you out."
I nodded before taking a good look around the room we were in. It had two beds and I was on one of them. I guessed that maybe Alex and his friend, Sam, must be sharing this room. There were two doors on the far left side. I assumed one of them led to the bathroom and the other to the hallway. All the furniture was bigger than the furniture in my room. I noticed he even had a mini fridge, which my room certainly did not.
"Your room is better than mine," I said, ignoring the hostile glare he was throwing my way. I looked to the right - and my jaw dropped. If I thought having a mini fridge was cool before, this was absolutely breath-taking. This was one of the rooms that had those sliding doors through which you could literally step out onto the beach. It had heavy drapes but they were pulled apart so I could see the beach on the other side of it.
I stood up and winced again as several parts of my body throbbed. The way my body was hurting, I figured Alex must have literally dragged me here. I wouldn't put it past him to do that.
Before I knew what I was doing, I was making my way towards the door and pressing my hand against the cool glass and looking out with a grin like a five-year-old.
The view of the beach stretched out alongside the water with the starry sky above was magnificent.
"Holy shit, this is amazing!" I exclaimed before I turned back to look at Alex, who was watching me with a scowl on his face.
I didn't knew what I was expecting. He was the son of the one in charge of the wedding after all, so it shouldn't have been a shock that he was staying in one of the expensive rooms. Since my whole body was sore, I went back to the bed and plopped myself down on it, relaxing as I sank into the soft mattress.
"That's it. Get out."
"Whoa, what are you so angry about?" But Alex was already pulling me up and towards the door. "I was the one who got hurt! Not you! And I know it was stupid of me but it was just an accident!"
Alex sighed, and let go. He went to the small table set in between the two beds and picked up something before coming back to me.
"This." He held the camera up. "This is why I am angry."
I looked at the camera. It looked perfect to me. No signs of destruction at all. When I stared blankly at the camera, Alex said, "When you jumped on me, it slipped from hands and now it's got sand and water in it."
I stared at the camera. "Is that such a bad thing?"
Yes, I had no idea about cameras and tech. I knew that water could damage it somehow but as much as I knew, it could be fixed unless it was completely submerged.
"It switched off on its own. I tried cleaning it but it was no use. I'll have to take to a professional."
"Weren't you supposed to be wearing that strap around your neck or something?"
"I was packing everything up. I had just taken off the strap and that's when you decided to attack me."
Oh, shit.
"Okay, then. I will give you the money to get it fixed. Or I will buy you a new one." I sighed.
"Will you now?" He sneered at me. "It was worth five grand."
My jaw dropped. Holy shit.
"At least it didn't fall into the ocean, right?" A nervous chortle escaped my lips.
"You think this is any better? It might already be too late." He ran a hand through his hair. "Listen, you're not seriously injured anywhere so you can just leave-"
Alex was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"That must be Sam," said Alex, looking at the door before he turned back to look at me. "You're leaving either way."
Alex went to the door while I stayed where I was.
As Alex neared the door and was about to open it, a feminine voice said from the other side of the door, "Alex?"
I watched Alex tense up - and, for that matter, I also froze. I so did not want anyone to find me and Alex in the same room. The voice sounded really familiar to me but I couldn't quite make out who it was. I guess Alex didn't want anyone to find us in the same room too because the next thing I knew, he was making his way towards me and pulling me up by the back of my shirt.
"Hey!" I protested but one look from him shut me up.
"Come here," he said as he pulled me over to the doors. I thought he was going to throw me out into the hallway without giving a care about whoever was standing on the other side of the door. I breathed a sigh of relief when he opened the door to the bathroom instead. Before I could process what was happening, he pushed me in and whispered, "Stay."
"But-"
He closed the door before I could utter another word. I was about to open the door and give him a piece of my mind about how much I was going to 'stay' here when I thought better of it.
Usually, I wouldn't take this shit. But I had to admit, a part of me was curious to know who was behind the door, especially since I knew that it was someone I was familiar with. Plus, I didn't want anyone to find me here, in the same room with Alex. I didn't even know what time it was or how long I was out of it. It was already dark by the time I was knocked out, so I thought it must have been pretty late now.
"What took you so long?" I heard the voice outside ask.
"What are you doing here?" Alex replied.
Instead of answering, I heard her giggle.
That giggle... I've heard that before. Then it suddenly clicked. I thought I knew who the girl was.
Her giggling stopped and another sound filled the room. A weird sound. Weird slobbery, smacking sounds.
I scowled.
Oh no. Please tell me they're not-
I heard the sound stop abruptly and Alex say: "I don't think we should do this right now."
"Oh, come on. Live a little, Alex."
I tensed as I heard the weird sounds again. I was frozen behind the door. My body tensed even more than it already was as I heard more moans and groans before I heard a creaking sound.
Was that the sound of the bed creaking?
"Oh, Alex..." I heard the girl let out a moan.
Curiosity getting the best of me, I finally mustered up enough courage to take a look at the girl and carefully opened the door just a crack, just enough so that I'd be able to look at the girl. I covered my mouth with my hand as a small gasp left me when I saw that I was right about the girl. Alex was making out on one of the beds with none other than my bitch cousin, Rose.
What the fuck did I get myself into?
