Chapter 6: Colorful Tints
Y'all are going to hate me so much for this... but you know what? I don't care so...Kakashi and Ahsoka are FINALLY going to meet this chapter...however, since I am unoriginal and creatively drained by life, these scenes are basically gonna be how Kousei and Kaori meet in Your Lie in April. It will not be exactly like the scene but it will be HEAVILY inspired by it. Is it wrong... maybe, am I doing it anyways...yes. A lot more information will be given in the A/N, so for now enjoy...and don't come at me. The scenes just fit really well on how I want their dynamic to be.
(Ahsoka in a new outfit. If this were the anime, she would wear this whenever Rin wears her purple shuriken outfit, Obito his open blue jacket with a fishnet underneath, and Kakashi his grey jacket with that skirt looking ass thing)
2 years later
Sweet music filled every corner of the apartment as Ahsoka played her flute. Her eyes were closed and her expression looked peaceful. But she was deep in thought.
Almost three years had passed since she came back to Konoha and two years had passed since her first genin exams. Now, after rejecting the position twice, she was ready to become a genin.
It wasn't like she wasn't ready before...physically. But she wasn't ready to leave the friends she had made and the many memories she could make with them.
And boy did they make memories.
Rin and Obito had been with her since the beginning, even as she was still gaining her footing in her new life. She couldn't have asked for two better friends.
Rin, sweet and caring. A calm head in any situation and extremely talented in chakra control. She was Ahsoka's closet girl friend in all of the academy. The one she went to for advice and for support in adjusting to her new life.
And Obito...the boy she has been in love with for more than two years, though, as Ahsoka had come to realize, he only had eyes for someone else...Rin.
She held no ill will towards Rin, the girl was clueless to Obito's affection just as much as he was clueless to Ahsoka's.
He'd been deemed a failure by his clan and by his peers, the complete opposite of Ahsoka. But he had a stronger resolve than any other person Ahsoka knew, and he had a heart of gold.
He helped everyone he could and never gave up on his friends. Maybe that's what attracted her to him...his kindness, compassion. But it seemed she was doomed to be stuck in the friend zone.
By the time she hit the decrescendo at the end of the song, her tone held a bit of sadness. She finally lowered the flute from her lips and looked out the window.
Today was graduation, the day that most of Ahsoka's nine-year old classmates were graduating, so the excitement in the village was at an all time high. Not that she was any different.
A loud knock on her bedroom door startled Ahsoka, "You know I love to hear you play and all, but if we don't leave now we are going to be late kiddo." Hiroshi called.
The girl crouched down, picked up her case and began to disarm the flute as quickly as she could, "I'm coming!" Her voice called back.
The Hokage sat writing on his small floor desk in one of his many 'offices' when a light knock sounded at the door, "Excuse me." A tall, blonde, handsome looking shinobi walked in. The legendary Minato Namikaze. He bowed and got down on one knee in front of the Hokage, "You wanted to see me?" he said, his voice rich and calm.
The Third turned his attention to one of his finest shinobi, beaming at him for a second before speaking, "I wanted to ask you a favor." The Hokage stood and crossed his arms as he continued, "The academy students are graduating this year and you will get your batch as a new jonin sensei."
Minato nodded at the information. "Obito Uchiha, Rin Nohara, and Ahsoka Aoyama." He listed off his soon to be students.
He wouldn't lie and say he wasn't pleased when the last of the Aoyama had been assigned to him. He was eager to see the extent of her rumored skills in combat and to be able to refine those abilities to be the very best.
Hiruzen hummed at Minato's response, "Hmm, yes, and that completes the usual three-cell team that genin are assigned to." The Yellow Flash looked at the Hokage, puzzled, not knowing where he was going with this.
"But...I would like to add one more." Minato's eyes widened slightly but waited for an explanation, "Kakashi Hatake is an extremely talented shinobi. However, he fusses too much about sticking to the rules and clashes with his superiors and teammates."
Minato felt the wheels turning in his head, "He may excel in technique, but as a human, he has much to learn." Hiruzen uncrossed his arms and looked at the Namikaze, "His father broke the rules to protect his comrades, and then took his own life..."
Minato sucked in a breath, the Hokage's steps echoing as he walked past him, "This...it has cast a shadow over Kakashi...."
"And you want to place him under my supervision..." Minato mentally cursed himself for sounding a bit unsure.
"Precisely." The Hokage grabbed a tea pot and poured two cups.
Minato turned towards him, "But with all due respect Hokage-sama ...how do you know he won't clash with me?" Hiruzen handed a cup to the jonin, to which the blonde quickly thanked him for as the Hokage sat back down on the floor by his desk.
"Because I have faith in you Minato. You are one of the most talented shinobi the village has ever seen and you have a free spirited nature. If there is any of the jonin that could possibly help the boy, it's you." The Hokage closed his eyes and took a long sip from his tea.
"Thank you, but what about the other three? Will this not cause trouble for their learning?" Minato lifted the cup to his lips.
"On the contrary, it might help them learn something." The aging man set his cup down, his eyes locking with blue ones, "Minato, you know we are at the brink of war with Iwagakure." Minato's face quickly darkened, "And even though these... kids are still very young, they need to be ready and mature enough when the time comes."
"And you believe Kakashi can help them?"
Hiruzen nodded, "I believe Kakashi can give them a more subtle version of the real world," He smiled sadly, "They might not get to be children for long... but it could help them survive another day."
Minato grimaced at the truth of the words, and felt a heavy weight settle in his heart at the prospect of children not being able to enjoy being children. But that will change if or when he becomes Hokage— he would make sure of it.
Falling sakura blossoms fluttered in the air as Obito Uchiha dashed down the road towards the academy. "Oh no, god damn it!" He cursed as he approached the building where two small figures stood as two men took down a large banner from the Academy building behind them.
His face fell at the sight as he slowed down. But it appeared that luck wasn't on his side today as he tripped and fell on his face...right in front of two looming figures with crossed arms.
"I can't believe you were late for both your entrance and graduation ceremonies!" One of the figures scowled at the Uchiha laying flat on the floor.
Rin...he could naturally guess who the other figure was.
"Graduation already finished!" Ahsoka had a hand on her hip with an exasperated look on her face as she too scolded the boy. Obito groaned as he moved up to sit on the ground and look up at the girls.
He quickly regretted the choice as his eyes fell on their scowls and turned his gaze back down to the floor, "But there was this old lady..."
Rin leaned back and put her hands on her hips, "You have an awfully high rate of encounters with old people, don't you?"
He sheepishly looked to the side, "Lately I've been getting ambushed by a lot of them."
"That sounds premeditated!" Ahsoka pointed out and shook her head. He looked up at her and pouted.
Ahsoka and Rin shared a look and sighed...they should have guessed this would happen..but alas that failure was on their part.
A sudden grin crossed the amber eyed girl's face as she turned and winked at Rin. The brunette's eyes widened before she smiled back, understanding— no words needed. She immediately leaned down, grabbing Obito's hands in hers, "Come on, this way."
The two girls didn't hesitate as they led the boy inside to the stage where most things were already packed and put into corners of the room.
Soon enough, Rin was holding a diploma in her hand as she stood in front of Obito on the stage, "Here is the graduation certificate for Obito Uchiha!" She enthusiastically read from the paper, "This certifies that you have graduated from the Hidden Leaf Village Ninja Academy. You are commended for persevering through the rain and wind to reach this mile stone!" She finished off, smiling widely at the boy whose eyes were watering at this point.
Rin turned the paper around and presented it to Obito, her wide closed eyed smile unwavering, "Here! Congratulations!"
"Woohoo! Yeah! Go Obito!" Ahsoka clapped and cheered enthusiastically from the lone chair she had pulled up in front of the stage as their only audience in the large, empty room.
Tears threatened to pour down Obito's cheeks, "You guys..." He wiped them away as he gently grabbed the certificate from Rin's hands, "Thank you Rin, Ahsoka." He looked at the paper and closed his eyes, gripping the diploma tighter in excitement before continuing.
"No one is here to watch...but this makes me happier than receiving it from that old-man Hokage." Ahsoka hopped on stage with a soft smile and stood next to Rin.
"We're genin now so you have to shape up." Ahsoka said, crossing her arms.
The young Uchiha nodded, "Yeah, I know." He suddenly leaned forward with a hopeful look, "We'll now be part of a three-man squad and go on missions, right?"
Ahsoka and Rin both tensed, nervously glancing at each other, "N-not exactly," Rin gave him a hesitant smile.
His eyes shifted between the two, "What do you mean? Have the teams already been announced?"
"Yes, they have," Ahsoka said, smiling stiffly with her eyes closed, "But you're not gonna like it..."
Obito's brows furrowed in worry, "So the three of us aren't..." He had really been looking forward to be in a team with his two best friends, but again, luck was never on his side.
"Well..." Rin dramatically dropped her head as Ahsoka did everything possible not to laugh at her friend's theatrics.
Obito's eyes grew wide in horror, "Don't tell me...we're on different..."
He was interrupted as Rin quickly lifted up her head, "Unfortunately, it seems all three of us are on the same team."
"No way!" Obito lit up like a Christmas tree, all his worry from seconds ago vanishing.
"Yup. We're stuck looking after you again." Ahsoka shook her head in fake disappointment.
'Yes!Yes!' Obito turned around gripping his diploma tightly in his fist with a huge, unhinged grin.
He stopped, suddenly remembering something and turning back around to face the girls, "Wait... why would you say I wouldn't like it?"
Rin and Ahsoka looked at him with awkward smiles, "About that...we won't really be a three-man team.." Rin shifted on the balls of her feet as Ahsoka glanced off to gaze at the suddenly very interesting spot of scratched paint on the wall.
Obito raised an eyebrow in confusion, "Huh?"
"W-We'll be getting a fourth member." Rin said hesitantly.
His eyes widened, "A fourth member? Who is it?" Curiosity ate at him, and a little bit of annoyance. He didn't want this fourth person to mess with their team dynamic.
Ahsoka and Rin gave each other side glances as they ducked their heads and chorused in unison the o-so-dreaded name, "Kakashi..."
That day, Obito looked like he was going to burst a blood vessel.
A couple of days later
Kakashi groaned as he walked down the dirt path towards the park. A strong wind swayed the flowering sakura blossoms surrounding the road, decorating the ground with their petals in a mosaic of pink.
'This is stupid.'
Kakashi had thought that since moment that he received the note from his new sensei specifically requesting for the genin of the team to meet up and get a feel of one another before officially meeting as a team.
He had thought 'This is stupid' when Rin walked up to him at the library to plan out the details for a meeting between the four.
And he thought 'This is stupid' as he continued to look for his three new teammates who were nowhere to be found.
It was quite strange that a fresh new genin team be in a four-man cell. But Kakashi decided not to question it as he kicked a rock, and looked around to find no one.
The first one here. Typical.
His thoughts brought him back to scanning the area. Knowing Obito, the moronic boy was probably late. And knowing Rin, she was probably off looking for him.
"You'd think they'd have some dignity," Kakashi scoffed, "So irresponsible."
A sweet, cheerful, far away melody of something he couldn't exactly distinguish played as he walked, though he paid it no mind as he continued looking around before he suddenly spotted something up a tree.
Though it was hard to tell what it was, Kakashi figured it out as he narrowed his eyes at it. Shoes and a ninja headband? What type of person leaves their headband and shoes in a tree?
The flabbergasted thoughts perfectly conveyed his genuine puzzlement and annoyance as he reached an arm out to grab the objects.
He was turning the headband around in his hand when his reflexes screamed at him to act quickly, instinctly catching something else falling from the blossoming tree.
He stretched it out in his hand and squinted at the soft fabric. His eyes grew to the size of dinner plates as a sudden wave of panic hit him, the realization crashing down on him and almost making him drop the object in the dirt—he was holding a girl's pants.
He looked side to side, desperately trying to look for someone this could belong to but no one who it could fit was around.
Seemingly giving up and holding the pants at a distance, he began to walk deeper into the park, the sweet melody suddenly growing louder with each step he took.
The thought that they weren't have bad crossed his mind with casual indifference. Nevertheless, he slowly started walking towards them, thinking that he could at least get some entertainment At least there is some entertainment while he waited for his inutile team.
Kakashi stepped towards a clearing surrounded by sakura trees with that large boulder in the middle, and for a moment, Kakashi had to blink. Where there had once been dull monochrome hues there was suddenly cheerful tints...as if the whole world had taken on color, bit by bit as he stopped and stared at the scene.
A girl with light auburn hair swayed to the music she played from a piccolo a top the boulder. Her hair moved in the sunlight, making it shine like a soft ember as her green sea-foam colored dress billowed in the breeze.
She stood still and held the last note, filling the clearing with a soft, playful melody as Kakashi watched the beautiful scenery with wide eyes and something akin to awe hidden behind his mask.
She lifted the small flute from her lips and sighed contently. She opened her eyes and looked down with a sweet smile at a group of children Kakashi hadn't even noticed.
She crouched down on the bolder to look down at the kids, "See, Naori? You can't blow on it too hard. You have to be gentle." She slowly and gently moved her arm to the right to emphasize her point.
One of the kids below groaned, "But if I do that then no sound comes out."
"Well because you have to be gentle and tough at the same time."
"That makes no sense."
The girl laughed and extend a hand to the kid with a sweet smile, "Come on, it'll makes more sense if you try it." One by one the three kids got on top of the boulder and faced her.
She quickly handed the piccolo back to the boy before standing straight, "All right, from the top!" She lifted up her hands in preparation, ready to conduct.
"Hai!" The kids prepared their different instruments as the girl gave a pleased nod.
Their music soon filled the clearing once again. Though it didn't have the same effect as the girl's own playing, they didn't do half bad under her directory. She conducted the beat, keeping the kids in check with a smile on her face.
Kakashi watched the little make- shift band from the side lines with his hands in his dark gray jacket. They made quite an amusing group, though he would never admit it.
The group held the final note and the girl curled her hands in to fists to indicate the end. They all burst into joyful laughter and started high five-ing each other, the girl's laughter echoing above the rest like gentle bells as she congratulated the kids.
A strong wind suddenly blew making the children giggle as their hair got ruffled every which way. The girl chuckled at the kids' expressions, not noticing her dress lift up in the wind.
Kakashi turned bright red, a blush appear underneath his mask as he got a clear view of the unfortunate girl's panties. She looked down and gasped as she quickly held her dress down...and that was when she finally met his eyes.
A little of Kakashi's blush could be seen above his mask as he stared into the amber colored eyes, and that was all she noticed. A deafening silence followed. The four on the boulder had gone quiet and were staring at Kakashi with wide, blank eyes.
"Huh?" He blinked, realizing what they were all thinking at that moment.
Oh shit.
Kakashi didn't have any time to react as he heard the sound of a battle cry, right before he felt the sting of a piccolo to the face.
"What kind of pervert are you!? Disgusting! Staring at me while my skirt is blow up! I'm going to beat the hell out of you, you perverted hedgehog!" The girl yelled.
Kakashi squawked indignantly as he dodged more relentless piccolo attacks from the angry girl. Before he could get a word in to explain away the misunderstanding, she spotted the pair of shoes, pants, and a ninja headband in his hands.
"Wait- You stole my leggings too? Oh you little shit!"
Kakashi had to dodge even faster as her attacks suddenly increased in intensity.
A bit away, the tiny kids watched the scene with concern from the top of the boulder, "B-But that was my piccolo..." Naori groaned as another kid patted his back.
Fire seemed to be coming out of the girls eyes as she held her skirt down with one hand and pointed the piccolo threateningly at Kakashi with the other, "If you think I'm going to let you get away with that, you are an idiot!"
Kakashi furrowed his brow in a scowl and waved the pants around as he tried to defend himself, "I didn't steal them! They are up a tree! And quit calling me that! I'm not a hedgehog!"
"Oh really?! You could've fooled me with that hair of yours, pervert!" Birds flew overhead as the two continued screaming at each other.
Obito and Rin walked around park glancing every which way for their two teammates, "Huh, no sign of them. Do you think they are waiting for us on the other side of the park?" Rin leaned forward as she walked to get a better view.
"I don't know. If they are, we're going to have to walk all the way around." Obito gave an exasperated sigh, his hands behind his head and a lollipop sticking out of his mouth.
Rin sent him a pointed glare, "If you had just been here on time-" She cut herself off as she spotted a familiar mop of auburn hair a ways away.
"Hey, Ahsoka!" Rin cheerfully lifted up her hand and waved to try and get the girl's attention.
The Aoyama turned around and sent her friend a grin as if she wasn't trying to pin down a struggling Kakashi to the ground with a piccolo at the moment."Oh, hey Rin!"
Obito and Rin looked down at the scene with bewildered faces as they approached.
After a good few minutes of explaining, Ahsoka finally had her pants back on and the piccolo had been promptly returned. The group of genin now finally stood calmly and civilly in front of one another as Rin cleared her throat, breaking the awkward silence.
"I guess it's time for you guys to properly meet one another." Rin gestured to Ahsoka. "First off, our classmate, Ahsoka Aoyama."
The girl- Ahsoka, Kakashi's mind supplied- placed her hands behind her back and smiled with all the sweetness of a lemon. "Nice to meet to you." She then looked at Kakashi through menacing half lidded eyes, giving him a clear warning that said: pull any of that crap again and you are dead.
Kakashi only gave her an equally nasty glare, not bothering to hide it behind a smile like her. But he did feel a slightly higher amount of sweat on his forehead.
She had been fast. Faster than Kakashi had expected from a newly graduated genin. He resisted the urge to rub his cheek where the piccolo had hit him the first time. He hadn't had any time to dodge at all— and that put him on edge.
Rin then gestured to Kakashi, "And, Kakashi Hatake. You've heard of him, he was in our class before he graduated."
He gave Ahsoka a quick nod, not backing out of their staring contest yet. "Hey."
Rin giggled and joined her fingertips together, in her usual fashion, "Great! Now you two officially know each other."
Kakashi scoffed, "Would have known each other officially the first time if you two had gotten here on time."
"Yeah...what took you guys so long?" Ahsoka pouted and sent Obito a glare.
The Uchiha squawked, "What are you glaring at me for?! How do you know it was my fault we were late?!"
"Who else's would it be?!" The sounds of the two bickering continued as Rin approached Kakashi, leaning over to get a better look at him.
"So...what do you think? All four of us being on a team together?" She asked, her wide eyes gazing at Kakashi in admiration. The boy, who didn't seem to notice the brunette, continued to watch the bickering pair as Ahsoka pulled on Obito's ear, causing him to cry out, giving him a good scolding.
He suddenly noticed Rin was a lot closer, looking at him with expectant eyes, "Oh-Uh sorry did you say something?" Rin's smile suddenly fell into a frown as she quickly leaned away.
"Oh, never mind. It was nothing."
Ahsoka walked over to them with a skip in her step and an embarrassed looking Obito in tow, "So, what's the plan Rin?"
"I was kind of hoping we could go to that new barbeque place they opened up. I've heard it's really good." Rin said, unfazed by what had happened just then.
"Sounds good to me, I'm starving." Obito sighed dreamily, practically smelling the sweet scent of meat already.
Ahsoka nodded, "I'm good with that too."
Rin clapped her hands, "Perfect! Let's go." The three friends started walking, chatting and laughing as they went.
Obito suddenly looked behind him, seeing that Kakashi hadn't moved, "Oi Baka, are you coming or what?"
Kakashi sent him a glare before speaking, "I'll pass, I'm not hungry. It's best if you guys go on without me." Social gathering weren't his type of things. And their sensei only said they had to meet each other...
"Kami, are you always this stubborn?"
He suddenly felt a warm hand grab his, making his eyes snap up to see radiant honey colored ones looking- not necessarily sweetly, challenging maybe, almost daring him, inviting him.
He held his ground, but he let his hand remain in her grip, "I'm stubborn when the situation calls for it. I just don't want to go."
She cracked a smile, "Nonsense, you should come along. You are a part of this team after all, no?" His cold onyx eyes stared at her warm amber ones. The light catching in her eye.
Ahsoka suddenly tugged at his arm and led him to where Rin and Obito were waiting excitedly, "Come on, hedgehog."
Just like that...bit by bit.
The sakura blossoms flowed in the wind as the four shinobi walked away.
(UPDATED VERSION #2: 7/6/23. Finally redid this one after almost three years! Honestly it's so cool to see the improvement. If you've read the story since it first came out you might remember the older version, but I'll still have a comparison up on tumblr so you guys can see the difference haha)
A/N: Soooo I really hope you guys aren't too mad. I just couldn't help myself.
When I was first thinking about how I wanted Kakashi's and Ahsoka's relationship to be, I couldn't think of anything. I didn't want her to be bitchy, but I also didn't want her to be shy around him. Everything just felt wrong. But then, while I was listening to Amalee's Your Lie in April Medley English cover , processed the words to the song...and I knew exactly how I wanted their relationship to be.
Why? Because in my mind, for Kakashi to properly fall in love with an OC (In any fanfiction in general), that OC had to have had a big impact on his life. There is a big trope I see in many Kakashi x OC fan fictions...which is: The characters meet nonchalantly and then they suddenly fall in love| I mean it's the author's story and they can do whatever they want but it just doesn't feel right to me.
And this trope is called Insta Love, which is that the characters fall in love in an almost unrealistic short amount of time after meeting. Don't get me wrong, I ENJOYED a lot of those stories, but that was something that always bothered me. One example (NO HATE) of this is in this fanfiction My Life with You (Kakashi Hatake Love Story) To me, the rest of the story is great, I really enjoyed the later chapters. But I couldn't get behind how and WHY they fell in love. (That's a big one) The WHY is something that a lot of people miss. They just make them fall in love with their OC with no backbone to the relationship. To me, in this specific fanfiction, I couldn't figure out why Kakashi fell in love with her. The two just suddenly fell in love instantly after meeting, Insta Love. AGAIN NO HATE, (I also read it a while ago so I might have forgotten but that's what I remember getting from it. I really enjoyed My Life with You and I'm only using it as example because it's the only one I can remember. (Also why is it always an Uchiha OC...I don't get it)
What I'm trying to do in my story is to create a strong backbone to their relationship. I'm trying to create the WHY while I also focus on the HOW. And I felt like Your Lie in April was a perfect fit and a perfect example of the why for these two. Kousei fell in love with Kaori with a WHY, music joined them together and she brought light to his life, which is exactly what I want Ahsoka to bring to Kakashi. YLIA just fit perfectly with this story and not just for the love part but for everything else that will happen in Part I. Also because that scene fit perfectly with Kakashi's pervy side later in Naruto. Before you start calling me a hypocrite, no Kakashi is not in love yet, neither of them are. Kakashi is just noticing things about her that will set up the stage for it later for a crush and then love. (I told you this Fic was going to be long)
"But TinyTots, why didn't you just come up with your own way for them to meet?" Eh well because Your Lie in April is an anime that hit home for me and I couldn't come up with anything that would hit home for you guys or that did that scene justice. And believe me I tried...It's all in my scrap notebook...My goal is to make their relationship feel genuine to you guys. Which is something I didn't get in many Kakashi x OC fanfics. There is one in Fanfiction.net though called Sparks that was just AMAZING and their relationship makes sense!
I seriously hope you guys can understand why I did this and why Your Lie in April is such a huge inspiration for this fanfic and why it will continue to be a big inspiration and influence in the future. Maybe I could have done it better, maybe I could have worked harder. But right now...I'm just enjoying writing this. I hope you guys enjoy reading it too. (No hate comments por favor. I swear I can't deal with you right now) <3
PS. Go watch Your Lie in April OMFG it's amazing and it might help you understand what I'm going for. (All episodes are on Netflix) I don't take any responsibility if you need up crying at the end.
***Next update will be July 11th
