Taking back
"We are done packing," Sydney couldn't understand what her little girl meant until she got in her room. Amber introduced her to Gideon who was busy packing two school bags. Sydney waited until Amber explained to Gideon how this fairy was going to help them out.
"Where were you two going?" Sydney asked looking at Gideon who seemed a little flustered.
"We were going to see dad?" Gideon answered while Amber offered Sydney some cookies,
"Thanks," Sydney whispered looking at the room. She collected that it was Amber's room because there was only one bed and everything was too pinky for a boy living in the room.
"You are still very pretty," Gideon commented,
"Thank you, your place is pretty too," Sydney replied looking at Amber still thinking how she was supposed to tell the kids that she was their mother. Both of them were like a distant dream that was now real.
"But,...how you two were planning to get to Seattle,...it's far," Sydney asked and this made both kids fall for silence before Gideon replied,
"We have planned to bribe the people with these bills," Amber showed Sydney a bundle of cash in her bag. The answer made Sydney wonder. Her kids were too small to be familiar with such terms.
"Who told you about this?... I mean this bribing thing," Sydney asked looking at Gideon's forehead that resembled Noah a lot.
"Our nana bribes us all the time," Amber said looking flawlessly pretty in her blue floral dress.
"And, it works all the time on her," Gideon spoke pointing his finger to Amber.
"Have you two tried it before?" Sydney asked fearing how she was a total stranger to her own babies.
"Not for traveling, but I know I can take care of her," Gideon sounds confident. In his black t-shirt, he was way more confident for a five-year-old.
"I am sure you can but,...you should have asked your nana if you two wanted to see your dad," Sydney felt the urge to tell what's right for them.
"We can't tell her," "It's her, that we are leaving," Gideon and Amber said at the same time.
"Are you two hiding something?" Sydney asked fearing that the old woman was doing something to her kids.
"No," Both replied cheerfully but Sydney could feel they were hiding something.
"Great,...so, how we are leaving?" Sydney asked and saw Gideon smiling,
The three left the home through a window in the east wing. Sydney found that the mansion had fewer guards here. They got out without anyone noticing them while Gideon used a key to open a small rusty gate. Gideon was walking ahead showing them the way while Sydney got Amber's bag on her shoulder and her wrist in her hand.
"From here we need to arrange a driver and a car," Gideon said looking at his cellphone.
"I am scared Gideon, I would rather accept the punishment." This made Gideon look at the Amber who seemed to be scared and had eyes only for Gideon,
"What punishment?" Sydney asked,
"I talk back to nana she was to spank me so we thought to run away to dad,"
This made Sydney go insane for a moment. Her daughter was too small for any kind of such punishment. Sydney didn't want to imagine what her kids were suffering in this place. Heck! No one has any right to punish my kids. Not even me. She yelled in her brain.
Sydney was still for a moment. She knew she can't kill that woman but there was one thing she can do and that was to claim what's her.
"Let's go," Sydney said before making the kids back to their home.
"We can't go there." Gideon protested,
"Are you taking us back to nana," Amber's voice showed her fear.
"No, tell me where the servant quarter is?" Sydney asked. This time she was not hiding and was ready if any guard locates them. They made it to servant quarter but the moment Sydney was about to get in Gideon asked,
"What do you have in mind?"
"It's time to show the magic, just wait here for me," Sydney told her kids before setting her foot back into the place.
Getting in Sydney called the first woman she came across in the hallway, "Hey, I am here to ask for the pilot who can fly me and my kids to Seattle," The maid seemed to be a little taken aback before asking,
"Who are you?"
"I am Mrs. Miller," Sydney said looking right into her eyes.
"And, you think it should be enough?" The woman who welcomed Sydney in the morning came to say,
"It should be if you don't want to lose your jobs once this old hag is out of the picture," Sydney's voice was enough to shrink the smile on that woman's face.
"Following you, we can lose our job right away," That woman said,
"Or I can make sure that you don't and offer you a double salary," One can see that Sydney wasn't kidding.
"And you, I want my luggage in a minute and I don't care if you inform that rusty bone because I am going to take what's mine," The chill in Sydney's voice made all of them get to their work.
"How did you manage that?" Gideon asked seeing themselves using the plane.
Knowing that someone is scaring your kids makes you very strong. Sydney said in her brain but only offered a smile to confused Gideon.
"Don't forget that she is a fairy," Amber added cheerfully.
"Mrs. Miller, Miss Miller demands you to return the kids. I am sorry,..." One of the maids came to whisper in Sydney's ear.
"I will make you sorry if you people didn't follow me." But when she found the staff still reluctant she added,
"We all know she is not going to come out, So, you decide who you should fear most."
Sydney didn't have to add anything else. Her kids seemed genuinely happy and thrilled once the plane took off. They talk about how they had a play today and Gideon was a rabbit while Amber was a bee. Sydney knew she had missed a lot of things in their life but she swore to not miss a single moment from now on.
"Why dad didn't follow you, he was here for three days?" Sydney asked looking at their pictures from today's play, to which both kids become quite before Amber said in a low voice,
"Granny asked him to leave,"
"Why?" Sydney asked.
"I don't know, I asked nana and she went mad," Amber said with her face dropped,
"Have you seen your nana?" Sydney asked. Her question made Gideon and Amber share a glance before they replied, "Yes,"
"...but she only shows her face to us or dad," Gideon said and Sydney remembered Noah telling her this piece of information.
"What are you doing?" Sydney asked looking at Gideon who seemed to be busy.
"I am playing this game. My dad had developed it only for me." Gideon brags out and Amber giggled. The way Amber and Gideon roam showed how they were used to using this plane.
"Do you want some chocolate?" Amber asked to which Sydney said yes.
"Do you know your father's name?" Sydney asked and kids looked at her surprised,
"I am asking so we could find him in Seattle," Sydney tried to cover.
"His name is Noah Miller. And, we don't need to find him. He will already be aware that we have left." Gideon said setting his eyes back to his game.
"How?" Sydney asked,
"Our cell phones are bugged," Gideon said showing his crook smile,
"Wow," Sydney said before asking,
"Do you know your mother's name?" Sydney asked and tried hard to make sure her voice is without any waver to which Amber replied with excitement. "Her name was Sydney Miller!"
Gideon smiled at Amber and seemed to be proud of him for letting Amber reply.
Of course, it was Noah who else would have told them but all of this made Sydney more anxious. A part of her was relaxed knowing her kids knew her but more she knew she was near to her destination the more she felt exhausted.
She wanted to hold her Noah in her arm and complain about all she went through. Of course, she remembered Amber telling her about Noah's blindness and could feel his life wasn't easy too.
In three hours Amber and Gideon were fast asleep while Sydney started seeing the videos of her kids on Amber's cell. Sydney all too remembered that her kids will be five in the next four months.
Amber was sleeping with her head leaning on her right arm while Gideon at her left. Sydney couldn't help kissing their heads after every few minutes. Sydney noticed how Noah was in very few videos. It makes her wonder why Noah doesn't keep his kids with him.
She couldn't sleep even for a minute. Her thoughts were consumed for why Noah never tried to look for her.
Her kids and husband were always here living and she was too dumb to never realize. She knew it wasn't her mistake. That time when she tried to contact Miss Miller she let her believe that Noah was no more.
"I will never leave you two alone, I promise," She whispered before kissing her daughter.
"Mrs. Miller, we are about to land," The hostess came to say and Sydney tried to wake up the kids.
It was 6 am in Seattle when the plane landed. For some reason, her heart was at ease now. With her kids' hands in hers, she felt the strongest woman ever in her. It gave her a strange pride. I am ready for whatever comes next. She thought and took the kids down the stairs. They were still sleepy and Sydney was careful while taking them down.
She was still looking down and smiling at Gideon who was trying to set his spectacles when she heard Amber exclaiming, "Daddy!"
