Chapter 40: The Confusion
Arabella's POV
After the whole incident with William, we all went back to the Phantomhive manor. "The nerve of that guy!!" Onyx scowled, rampaging back and forth. "We told him about Landers and he doesn't even give us a thank you!!!! He..!!!" She continued furiously while making gestures with her hands. Grell and I stood there, uncertain of what to do. I wasn't even sure if Onyx remembered we were there. Grell sighed, putting a hand to his head. "I should probably take my leave. I'm not sure how to deal with Onyx like this. Well, it was nice seeing you two. We must meet again. Ta ta darling." He gave me a peck on my cheek and left, wishing me luck. "I hate him so much!!" Onyx screamed, not looking at me. I went up to her and slapped her, harshly. She stopped and looked at me, fury reflecting from her hazel eyes. "What the hell was that for!?!" Onyx exclaimed while holding her flaming cheek. "You need to stop behaving like a brat," I said calmly,"Ranting won't do anything." Onyx sighed, looking down at the ground. "You're right. I'm sorry." I hugged her, sighing in relief. "What was that all about?" A voice asked in an uncertain tone. I glanced behind me and saw Raven approaching. "It's nothing." I lied, letting go of Onyx. Raven looked like she didn't believe me but I ignored it. "What have you been doing all day, Raven?" She didn't make eye contact with me but said,"Nothing much. Annabel has been avoiding me quite a bit today." Why would Annabel do that? Annabel and Raven were practically inseparable, bonded by friendship. I simply couldn't imagine them ignoring each other. I was about to ask why but decided against it. I heard Onyx sigh. I jumped, almost forgetting she was there. "I think I'm going to go home." Onyx mumbled, beginning to walk away. I had forgotten that Onyx had a little cottage where she resided in. "I'll come back tomorrow, Bella. See you." Onyx snapped her fingers and was gone.
Raven's POV
Today was just so confusing. Why was Annabel thinking that I didn't trust her? Why was Arabella hiding things from me? Where was James? "Hey." Someone whispered in my ear. I spun around and punched the person in the nose, involuntarily. Arabella gasped. James was crumpled on the grass, clutching his nose while groaning in pain. "Goodness, Raven, why do you keep injuring me??" James asked,"My poor nose. Just add that to my current list of injuries." I quickly knelt down and put James' head on my lap, not caring that he was getting blood on my dress. "Sorry," I winced,"It was just.." "Instinct," James finished for me,"I know." I giggled lamely. Arabella coughed, saying,"I'll just, uh, look for Annabel. You two...don't kill each other." Before she left, she gave James and I a wink. "We are just friends!!" I yelled after her. She laughed then soon disappeared from view. James lifted his head from my lap and slowly sat up. He flashed his crooked grin at me, making me smile back. "So, what's this about Annabel avoiding you?" He asked, his grin replaced with a frown. I sighed, twirling a strand of blond hair around my finger. "She thinks I still don't trust her. Even after all this time, that what she thinks." "Well," James gently said,"What do you think gave her that idea?" I thought to myself for a moment. I never told Annabel about my angel's and demon's side fighting each other constantly in my mind. "I suppose," I said slowly,"I keep too many things to myself. She doesn't know about..them..." James took my hand with both of his. "You should tell her. She's very worried about you." I nodded, processing his words in my mind. "I hate to interrupt this touching moment, but I would like to speak with both of you." Ciel said, looking at James' hands holding mine. James quickly let go and stood up. I stood up as well. "What is it that you wish to speak with us about?" I asked Ciel. Ciel sighed. "It's about Ash Landers. I have a feeling that you two are somewhat involved with his appearance at the party."
