Chapter 2
I got home last night and I couldn't stop thinking about Jesse. I don't know but something about him just drew me to him like flies to honey. He seemed really nice. Not to mention that he's the first guy that hasn't picked on me because of how smart I was. (I don't really do that well in school. I usually get D's and C's and occasionally a B depending on the subject). I liked other things about him too; like the way he looked at me with those beautiful hazel eyes. I like how he's polite when he meets someone new and I definitely like how he made conversation with me without making fun of me.....
~~~~~~
"Jean! Wake up!" Ramona barged in my room without knocking and jumped, and I mean JUMPED onto me, literally. That was when I woke up to an 'oomph!'.
"Time for school!" She screamed. "I'm gonna drive us so come on!"
Then she dashed out of the room.
I got up and started to do my daily routine. I undressed and got out a black T-shirt and dark blue skinny jeans. I started to brush my long brown hair that ended a little above my waist. I wear glasses, but most of the time I don't wear them but for some reason I decided to today. They were black framed glasses that hides my greenish blue eyes
"Jean! Today!" Beth shouted from the kitchen.
"Coming!" I shouted.
~~~~~~
So for the past few weeks since I got out of the hospital, Ramona has been driving us to school because she got her license recently.
"So who's Jesse?" She asked.
WHAT?!
"Nobody! And who told you?!" I asked, slapping her arm. She started giggling.
"Beth told me last night." She said, smiling. "She told me you met this guy named Jesse Hatchway."
"Hathaway. And yes. So?" I said.
"So do you like him?"
"I honestly don't know if I do. I do but I don't at the same time. I like him because he seems nice enough, and no because I barley know him."
"Get to know him better. I'm sure you guys will hit it off." she said. "So how was the counseling?"
"It was okay I guess. If you like people who think you're crazy. But the kids there seem okay."
"Why would think that? I don't think they think you're crazy. I don't even think they're allowed to do that." Ramona exclaimed.
"He treats us like we're infants, it's sick." I said disgusted.
"I'm sure he doesn't think that. I think counselors are supposed to, like sugar code things....? I don't really know because I've never been to a counselor before. But all I know is that they're not supposed to judge and everything." She said.
"Yeah...." I said looking out the window.
~~~~~~
We got to the school and parked in the student parking lot and headed in the back door.
"Do you remember how to get to your classes?" Ramona asked me.
I actually don't remember....
"No." I said. "Where do I go first?"
"Lemme see your schedule. I'm pretty sure you have Biology first."
Of course I have the hardest class first. Why not?
I dug in my backpack and took out my schedule, and she started skimming through it.
"Yeah you have Biology first, then an arts class second, Gym third, English fourth, study hall or Lab fifth, Math sixth, lunch seventh, History eighth, Chorus ninth and special ed tenth."
"Yeah I think I remember now." I said walking in the direction of the stairs. Then I stopped an realized I had no idea where I was going.
"Do you know where any of that is?" I laughed nervously.
"Yeah, I'll show you." She smiled, shaking her head.
~~~~~~
Ramona showed me where my locker was and she helped me get my combination from the office. Then we went back upstairs and put my backpack in my locker and showed me where Biology was.
"There you go."
"Thanks."
"Well we have a little bit of time before the bell rings for class. Where's Darlene?" She asked.
Darlene who?
"Who's Darlene?" I asked.
"Who's Darlene? Jean, Darlene Kelley is your best friend. Come on let's go find her. I'm sure she'll be happy to see you again." She took my wrist and began to hunt down whoever this Darlene girl was.
~~~~~~
"Darlene!" She shouted. Oh my god, she's loud!
Darlene was at her locker getting her books.
"Hey Ramona." She smiled sweetly.
Darlene was pretty. She has REALLY long blonde wavy hair and green eyes and wore really big glasses. Like Napolean Dynamite big.
She was my height, maybe exact height. She was dressed in a white skull T-shirt and black skinny jeans and black converse.
I think my self esteem just dropped by 100 points.
"Jean you remember Darlene, Don't you?" Ramona nudged me.
Now that I see her she does look familiar.
Oh yeah! I remember her now! I remember all the stupid things we did!
I remember this one time we broke into an abandoned asylum at night. It was so much fun and really scary at the same time and I loved it. And another thing we did was go into Walmart and we pushed each other in carts and crashed into a pyramid of cans. That was when we got kicked out my mom wasn't too thrilled with the idea of picking up her daughter and her friend at the Walmart office with a security guard.....
"Yeah I do!" I said smiling. Darlene came over and gave me a really tight hug.
"Oh I'm so glad you remember me! You really scared me when I found out that you-"
Ramona made a weird noise at Darlene.
"Yeah you just scared me that's all!" She said bubbly.
"I'm sorry about that." I said.
"That's totally fine. You going to homeroom, Jean?" She asked.
"Yeah."
"I'll walk down with you."
"Hey I gotta go to my homeroom too before Mr. Christopher marks me late. Again." Ramona said as she gave me a quick hug. "I'll see you later."
"Okay." We both unison.
We started walking towards our homeroom when suddenly three preppy girls came over.
"Hey Larleen," one blonde girl with blue eyes said in an over friendly voice. "What is 'that' doing with you?"
She did NOT just say that.
"Her name is Darlene." I said bitterly.
"Nobody asked you, you nosey little bitch."
"Guys come on, go easy on her. She just got out of the Hospital."
And she did NOT just say that.
I shot her a 'shut up' look.
"Oh you did, did you? What happened?" The blonde girl sassed.
I wish I knew.
"I.....don't know." I said quietly.
"How do you not know?" She said, chewing her gum loudly.
"I just don't, okay. My sisters won't tell me. Now if you don't mind, you can but out of my business, get the hell out of our way, and leave us the fuck alone!" I said firmly, walking away towards Biology.
"Where did that come from?" Darlene jogged up behind me.
"I don't like girls." I said.
