Chapter 13

***Persephone's POV***

I don't know who I wronged in my past life but I definitely did something wrong because I was about to either be murdered or murder someone.

Jess looks into the hall once more before locking the door and turning to me, "Ok, good. We can talk now."

"Talk?" I ask, rolling my eyes, "More like you're going to try and murder me again."

"Well, yeah, I did that. Sorry. I really just needed to gauge how strong you were. I thought you might be who I've been looking for but I needed to make sure."

"Really? Because to me it just seemed liked jealousy since you've been fucking my soulmate."

She looks at me, pausing for a moment before bursting out in laughter.

I watch, astonished, as she rolls around the ground in fits of laughter with tears streaming down her face.

"Bitch, what the fuck are you doing?" I ask, confused as hell.

"I did not fuck your soulmate." she gasps out, her breath wonky from all the laughing, "Goddamn that's funny. Sorry, sweet cheeks, he's not really my type. I swing the other way."

She looks over at me before slowly bringing her eyes down and back up. When her eyes meet mine once more she winks, licking her lips.

"Uh-huh, and what was all that 'babe' mess you were doing with Hunter then?" I ask, honestly not following what the fuck she was getting at.

"I'm a great actress. You see, when I met him this idiot tried hiding his identity from me. I, of course, recognized him immediately but he still thinks that I think he's some random shapeshifter. And normally I wouldn't give a shit about his identity, but when I went to the seers years ago they told me the heir of the shapeshifters would lead me to the missing piece of the puzzle. But, he'd never believe I wanted to stick around him if he was some random shapeshifter with nothing to contribute so I played to his ego and acted like some lovesick girl. It was honestly disgusting, but it worked. I met you."

"Seers are extinct so how does that work?"

"What idiot told you they were extinct?" she asks with a laugh.

"My grandmother."

"Of course she wouldn't know, she's directly linked to a member of the council. Seers are alive just hidden away from the council. They only link with people through me, scared of being found out. The council will kill them all if they find them so I have to hide them from the council, it's my sacred duty."

"Why would the council kill them?"

"Because the council wants to be the supreme reigning force and if a line of people that can see the future exist, they won't be. People used to go to seers all the time, listening to their advice and praising them. But then the council formed and hated the way the seers got all that power so they set out an order to kill them all. A few escaped and my family became their sworn protectors, the responsibility of protecting them passed down to the oldest."

"OK, that actually makes sense since the council would do shit like that. But why does Hunter think y'all hooked up?"

"Oh, that. Well once a year he would get blackout drunk and pass out, so I just would get in his bed with one of his shirts on and pretend like we hooked up. He never realized."

I think back towards everything she's talking about and everything lines up, I just don't understand how I'm the missing piece. And what puzzle I'm the missing piece to.

"Ok... so why did you have to act like a bitch and try and kill me? And why couldn't you just tell everyone?"

"Well, you see... I don't trust anyone here. I know they're all your family and blah blah blah but you never fucking know where a rat is and I'm not trusting them with this information. If the fact that seers exist got out, they'd be hunted down and wouldn't make it through that a second time. So if I have to play the part of a lovesick idiot to hold up appearances then so be it."

"And the attack?"

"Oh, as I said before I needed to reveal exactly what your powers were and fast. I was pretty sure I was right, but you never know. I could feel as soon as I came in you were different, but weirdly enough I couldn't see just how you were different."

"How could you... feel it? Everyone says I feel like nothing, no magic coming off me at all."

"Oh, it wasn't the magic. It was your aura. My lineage was picked to protect the seers for two reasons. Number one, my great great great great something was romantically involved with one of the seers who survived. Number two, our family has a weird gift that isn't allowed to be made public, a gift completely outside our warlock abilities. And part of that gift is reading auras and seeing things others can't."

"Oh... well then. What do we do now?" I ask, trying to wrap my mind around the craziness that is this blondie.

"Well, I need you to give me a tiny bit of time. I need to get into everyone's minds and see if they're a ra-"

"Hold up a minute, get into their minds? Nope, not happening you weird-ass little chick."

"First up, I am not little I am fun-sized. Second, I need to make sure I can trust every single person here before bringing the seers here."

"And why are we bringing the seers here?"

"Because this house is the safest possible place on Earth, not to mention you need their access to fate on your side. Believe me, they're firepower you absolutely need."

"Ok, but can we do something other than root around my friend's brains?"

"Hmm, I suppose I can do something else. But it will take a significantly longer time and I'll have to pretend to be lovesick and you'll have to pretend to be angry until I've verified everyone here."

"Ok, sounds good. I'm good at being mad at him. Now, how long are we talking?"

"A week, maybe. I've never done this on a group this large so I can't tell you how long this will take, but I will tell you when I'm done. Now slap me."

"What the fuck you little fun-sized weirdo? I am not playing into your sick little fantasies."

"Well... that is a fantasy but not with you. I was thinking more of a Hermione-type person would fill that. Curly hair... soft skin... those big doe eye-"

I clear my throat, rolling my eyes.

"Sorry, sorry, not the point," she says, raising her hands in defeat, "We just need to act like we had a fight, and I don't want you going all magicky on me again so I need you to hit me. I'll run out here crying like a little bitch all the way to that idiot."

"Hey, he may be an idiot, but he's my idiot. No one calls him that except me."

With that, I backhand her with all the force I can, watching as her smirk turns into a really good fake cry as she runs out the door.

Let the games begin.

***Hunter's POV***

I pace outside the door, biting my nails. Inside the room were my soulmate and the chick who was in love with me. Definitely seemed like a horrible mix.

Jess runs out of the room sobbing, a red handprint on her face. Oh, shit.

She sees me and runs over, jumping on me and choking the shit out of me. What in the actual fuck.

I see Persey leave the room out of the corner of my eye, rolling her eyes at the monkey on me before walking away.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

"Get the fuck off me," I growl out, pushing her off me before running down the hall.

I take a turn and run into someone, almost toppling us both to the ground. I catch myself and the other person, thankfully, and save us both from falling.

When I turn to see Persey I go in for a hug, looking down at her. I expect any type of reaction but she just continues looking at the wall, spaced out.

Maybe she's giving me the cold shoulder...

As soon as I think that a little squeak leaves her mouth, and she starts frantically looking around.

I can feel her power blasting out of her, another clue that something's wrong.

I'm not sure what, exactly, happened but Persey is not currently with us.

I pick her up, hoping for a reaction, any reaction at this point but she just continues to frantically look around the hall, her eyes completely skipping over me.

I run down the stairs, heading right to the living room where Granny is convincing everyone to watch Magic Mike.

I burst in, setting Persey on the couch immediately and then going to turn off the tv.

"HEY, I'M WATCHING MY MAGIC MIKE! NO ONE PUTS MIKE ON HOLD!" Granny yells, coming up to most likely give me a beating but I look around her, instead focusing on Persey.

"Something's wrong with her, she's not really here. I don't know what happened but one second she was there and the next she wasn't," I say frantically. I move around Granny and go to sit on the couch.

Granny follows and within moments I'm surrounded, our little family all watching Persey.

She's still looking around as though she's searching for someone but her eyes go over everyone, and every once in a while she mutters something but it's far too quiet for any of us to hear.

I put my ear near her mouth, hoping to catch whatever she's saying.

"Who are you? Why are you doing this?" I hear her faintly whisper, making me pull back from shock.

"She's talking to someone, I'm not sure who but she is," I say, getting frantic now.

I can hear someone coming in the room and see Jess, except her eyes aren't on me. They're on Persey, and they sure as hell aren't filled with anything near hatred. If anything, it almost looks like she's... worried.

Jess stomps right through everyone, pushing them all away until she's right next to me. "How long has she been like this?"

"I don't know? Since I pushed you off me, I'd guess."

"Fuck, I should've fucking realized. No fucking wonder, she's not fucking ready so they're making her ready."

"WHO IS MAKING HER READY?" I yell, wondering what the fuck Jess is talking about.

"Do you guys believe in gods? Not like one benevolent god but old gods with more magic than they should have and no fucking brain."

"Like... Greek gods?" I ask, not following.

"Exactly like Greek gods, well imagine some powerful beings like that and make them a bit manic, and that gives you the Supreme Beings. And if I'm right the-"

"Wait wait wait you've seen a Supreme Being?" Brandi cuts in, her voice hesitant.

"Yeah they're fucking annoying as hell and aren't even that powerful, pretty sure Persey over here would beat their asses but don't let them know that. Anyways, they're all depending on Persey and they think she's not ready for the war we're about to start, so they're making her ready. At least, that's what I think."

"And how would you know this? Seems pretty extreme," Hayden cuts in, his tone suspicious.

"Because my fucking sperm donor is a Supreme Being," she growls out, glaring at the wall, "Any more questions, or will you let me fucking talk?"

"How come I can feel you're a wizard?" Malachi cuts in, smirking when she looks over at him and growls.

"Because, you idiot, my mother was a warlock and my father was Supreme Being. I got both and I use my magic to cover my Supreme Being magic, and only feel like a wizard. Moving on, my father used to rant about how they were waiting for the girl to show up, talking about how all their hope was on her. Not to mention I can smell the Supreme Being magic mixing with her own, and no you cannot smell it because it's so faint I can only smell it because I'm part Supreme Being."

"Ok, how do we get her back?" I ask, looking down at my beautiful soulmate. I feel my heart clench but will myself to be strong, for her.

"Well, I can try and talk to them but they're notorious for being idiots so how about we just use magic to solve this," she says, a smirk on her face.

"And how exactly would we do that?" Brandi asks, rolling her eyes.

"Well, it's simple. We just need her to get in her scary mode, permanently."

"I'm not following..." Granny says, looking around as if the answer would be written on the walls.

"I mean that if we just wake her up somehow they'll do this again but she's strongest when her magic is present and part of her, not just lurking in the background. Plus, it will show them she's ready and hopefully, they'll fuck off. In any case, we need to find a spell that will make her magic more ingrained in her soul."

"Yeah, pretty sure that doesn't exist," Brandi says, glaring at Jess.

"No no she's right," Granny says, pacing the room, "Persey's mom used to worry that when Persey got her magic after all those years she'd still be disconnected as if her magic and herself were two different beings. So she looked everywhere and mention a spell that would connect her soul and magic. The only issue is, I don't remember her ever telling me what spell."

"I have some friends who might know," Jess says, her eyes flitting around, "but until I know for sure look in the library for any spells th-"

"Hold up, there's a library?" Jordan asks, distracting us all.

"God, you guys really need to check this house out," Jess says, sighing, "Yes there is a library and I'm pretty sure it has every book on magic, considering it's chock-full and fucking huge. Anyways, look there and I'm going to ask around, I'll report back if I find anything and if I don't find anything in a week I'm heading back here."

With that she walks out the door, leaving us all staring after her.

Well, shit, I'm not sure I really knew Jess.
