Chapter 10
***Hunter's POV***
I wake up in a damp cell, the smell of a rotting corpse filling my nose. God, or whoever is up there, please don't let it be one of my moronic friends.
I look around, noting how small the cell was. I lean forward, poking my head out to try and see the other cells. I hear a groan and look over, noticing Hayden slowly gain consciousness.
"Hey moron," I whisper yell, not trying to alert anyone, "who's around you?"
I do another perusal and notice Granny and Brandi slumped in cells adjoining mine, but don't see Jordan and Zach. If Zach is down here with us, the asshole.
"I see Zach and Jordan," Hayden whisper-yells at me, his lack of volume control making it more of a yell.
Well, well, well looks like perhaps Zach didn't betray us. I hear a soft moan and look over to see Granny sitting up, looking a bit haggard. I notice the cuffs on her wrist and my heart sinks, realizing her magic would most likely be blocked by those cuffs.
I try and see if Brandi has any on but her slumped figure blocks my eyesight so I can't tell if her magic is blocked, but my intuition tells me it is.
Granny looks at me, "What are you doing staring you moron? Shift and get us out of here before Seraphina tries to save us."
Oh shit, yeah, I'm a panther. Whoops.
I try and shift but can't.
'Buddy, I really need you right now. Please.' I think to my other half, praying that perhaps my panther is just asleep and that I'm not blocked like Granny.
But then I notice how my eyesight is much worse than before, the eyesight of a human. And I imagine the same can be said of my other senses. I stare deeply at the metal, seeing the hints of wolfbane woven throughout.
"Fuck, I can't shift," I murmur to Granny, "there's wolfsbane in the metal."
Wolfsbane isn't lethal, like many believe. But it is able to prevent a shift and prevent any other shifter powers, even if not ingested. Just simply being in the same area as wolfbane for a few minutes can have effects, and I imagine I've been sitting in this cell for hours, pressed up close to the wolfsbane.
I hear a groan, "Neither can I." Hayden mutters out, glaring at the floor.
"Well, no fucking duh idiot. If I can't why would you be able to?" I say, my temper flaring. I know I'm being rude but goddamn why can't life ever settle down for two seconds. I just want two effing seconds with my soulmate, to navigate the choppy waters of our relationship.
I hear the door open and look over, worried Persey might already be here. But, alas, it's the monster known as her father at the door, a man a bit older than myself behind him, his almost white eyes piercing through me.
Woah, that man is creepy. But would it be weird if I said he was hot? Like I love my soulmate with all of me but goddamn this boy can get it, with his black hair, almost white eyes, and dark skin. You'd think the contrast would look bad but he makes it look good.
Oh, wait, shit, he's with the bad guys. Never mind, he's not hot. He's a dumpster fire kind of ugly. Looks like the lizard from Monster Inc. and everything.
OK WHO THE FUCK IS MESSING WITH MY BRAIN BECAUSE I DID NOT JUST THINK THIS DUDE WAS HOT. AM I... BI? I'VE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT A GUY THAT WAY.
I hear Lucifer clear his throat, and look up to see the creepy, lizard dude laughing silently at me. "Since the vampires are unable to complete their side of the deal and cannot get their son to marry my daughter," Lucifer says, his tone bored, "I will just have to wed her to the heir of warlocks. Meet her future husband, Malachi."
Oh shit, the head messing makes sense now. The wizards are known for being evil, and being extremely talented when it comes to mental work. They can read minds, insert ideas into minds, and even take control of someone's mind.
This asshole had me on a whole rant about how hot he was. Motherfucker isn't even that hot.
I hear a low laugh, which slowly grows until Hayden is rolling on the floor of his tiny cell, hitting his head every time he laughs too hard. "Who names their kid Malachi? It's like they knew you were going to be evil." Every word is punctured by another manic laugh. It's official, my brother has lost his remaining brain cells.
"Not the fucking time," Brandi says, glaring at Hayden. He shuts up immediately, looking down at the ground and chewing his fingernails.
"Now that that's done," Lucifer says, still looking thoroughly bored, "Malachi has some shit he wants to say to you apparently. I honestly hope he kills one of you, but that's his choice, I suppose. With that, I leave you in his care."
Lucifer turns to walk out but not before Brandi shouts out, "SEE YOU LATER LUCI!" He turns to glare at her but must decide she's not worth the effort because he once again puts on his bored expression and walks out the door.
"So, I'm Malachi but you can call me Kai. I have a twin and I murdered her, along with my entire family. Oh, and I'm a sociopath." Malachi says, sitting down in the walkway so everyone in the cells in our area can see him.
"Nice little backstory buddy but I don't give a sh-"
I'm interrupted by Hayden, "OH MY GOSH YOU WATCH TVD? And Hunter, you moron he's making a reference to a TV show."
Malachi laughs, glancing at Hayden, "Yeah my best friend used to make me watch it with her every Friday. When we got to Kai Parker she loved- and I mean LOVED- that I was named Malachi. She'd quote that line all the time to annoy me."
I see Hayden looking at Malachi with hearts in his eyes, ready to make friends with the dude who is literally going to force my soulmate into marriage.
"Hayden, stop fangirling and think for 5 goddamn seconds," I say, my tone annoyed, "He's on the bad team. Stop trying to be friends with everyone, not everyone wants your friendship."
"I want your friendship," Malachi says, looking serious before he bursts out laughing, "Sorry, sorry wrong moment. Friendship is such a weird word, reminds me of My Little Pony. Anyways, I'm not exactly evil, I'd describe myself as more of a Loki."
His references go right over my head, as someone who rarely watches tv, but I can tell Hayden gets it. And that lovey-dovey expression gets worse. A whole lot worse. Goddamn, I have got to get a friendship leash for my brother or something. Not sure how a friendship leash would work but I'm definitely going to figure that out later on.
If we get out of here.
NO, I refuse to think I'm not getting out of here. WHEN we get out of here.
Hayden and Malachi go on to talk a bit more, but I tune them out. I need to find a way out of here and it's apparent that Hayden isn't going to be any help.
"HUNTER!" Hayden yells, catching my attention. "Damn dude, I've been calling your name for a while. I think I have a way out of here."
I look around, looking for Malachi, but he's nowhere to be seen. "What way? Seducing Malachi?"
Hayden rolls his eyes, opening his mouth to respond but it cut off by Jordan, "Bitch, he isn't going to seduce anyone. Except me, of course."
"Oooh babe," Hayden looks over at a cell I can't see into, "jealousy looks good on you."
"Are you going to tell me your idea Hayden or....?" I say, getting ticked off.
"Ok here's what we're going to do..."
~30 minutes later~
God, this is a bad idea. But it's the only idea we have, unfortunately.
I watch as my brother picks up a part of a cracked floor tile and stabs himself, dropping to the floor and groaning.
I wince, wishing I could take his place. Normally, wounds don't really bother us but with the wolfsbane, our healing powers have been stripped away.
I hear footsteps and slump over, pretending to sleep. God, please let Hayden be ok.
Malachi walks in and rushes over to Hayden, looking cautious but worried. Good, we need him worried.
"I... I slipped." Hayden groans out, playing his part perfectly.
"Shit... what am I supposed to do?" Malachi asks himself, pacing the walkway. "I can't let you out but I can't just let you die."
Hayden lets out another loud groan, playing up his injury for Malachi.
"Ok...ok... I'm coming in," Malachi says, grabbing a key from his pocket and letting himself inside Hayden's cell.
As soon as Malachi fully steps in, Hayden pounces, his hand going for the key. But he's too slow, Malachi stepping out of the way.
Malachi picks Hayden up and throws him at the wall, causing Hayden to groan. Malachi crouches over Hayden and whispers something, too low for my now-human hearing to catch.
He turns and walks out, turning around once more to say, "Au revoir." before smiling sweetly and walking out the door.
"HAYDEN," Jordan shouts, his hand poking out from his dark cell, trying to reach my twin, "BABE, ARE YOU OK?"
"I'm ... good," Hayden says, between coughs. "I think that motherfucker broke a rib but I'll be ok. But guys... he told me that Lucifer can sense Persey is nearby, and they're having the wedding the moment she arrives."
"No.... no," I whisper, my mind unable to comprehend the idea of my sunshine married to someone else.
I know she'll do it, she'll do anything to make sure we're all safe. But I'm afraid I'll lose her.
"He also said that there will be a ..." Hayden says, but drifts off, not able to say the last part.
"A what, Hayden?" I say, trying to be patient and calm but failing.
"A fertility ceremony. Tonight. To ensure she becomes pregnant... with Malachi's child." Hayden says, gulping and looking down at the ground.
"OH FUCK NO," Brandi shouts, having heard every word, "THAT CREEPY ASS FUCKER IS NOT GETTING MY BESTIE PREGGO. We need to bust the fuck out of here, now. Before she arrives."
All of a sudden I feel a warmth in my chest, my panther trying to alert me to something. I hold onto it, wondering what is happening when all of a sudden, it hits me.
"Guys... it's too late." I say, punching the wall, "She's already here."
***Persey's POV***
A few hours after receiving the text I end up on my porch, having made a detour.
I try and put on a helpless face, playing the part of the dud daughter who has no involvement in the magical realm.
I ring the doorbell, willing my eyes to fill with tears. I feel weak as hell, but that's what I need to do, in order for my plan to work.
The door opens and there stands my dad, smirking at the sight of my tears.
My body starts to fill up with the feeling of my hatred for him but I try and keep it off my face, wanting to look pitiful instead of vengeful.
"Please let them go," I whimper out, hoping he doesn't see through my act, "I'll do anything."
"Well, good, because I have your future husband here so the wedding can go on."
He waves his hand in the direction of the living room and starts walking, with me right behind him. When I walk in I don't see Zach, but a striking boy with eyes that seemed to see right into my soul.
"Hello wifey," he says, his voice deep.
"Uh... where's Zach?" I ask, not sure what the fuck is going on.
"Yeah, well, he betrayed me so I broke off the deal with his family and made a new one with Malachi's family."
Well, shit. That ruins my plans.
Also, Malachi. Really? Kai Parker from TVD flashes through my mind, one of Hayden's first celebrity crushes. Such a basic name for an evil guy.
I'm brought out of my slight panic by my father's phone ringing.
Looks like phase 1 is initiated, even if the rest of my plan might not work out with Malachi being my supposed hubby.
My dad excuses himself, walking off to answer the phone. I watch as his expression gets angrier and have to hold in a laugh.
Yeah, bitch, I put a magic bomb in one of your facilities. Deal with it.
He walks over, his expression stormy, "I need to go deal with business. Malachi can see this through."
"Sounds good to me," Malachi says, almost sounding bored.
Anger fills me once again, anger at the fact that my dad would never even consider me a suspect in the bombing. To him, I'm just a stupid, magicless little girl.
"Bye, father," I say, trying to infuse as much weakness in my voice as possible.
He looks at me weirdly for one moment, making my palms sweat, but shakes it off and walks out the front door with his guards, leaving me with Malachi.
I consider what to do, looking anywhere but at Malachi. I don't want to use my powers but it may be my only chance of breaking the others out.
"C'mon darling," Malachi says, grabbing my hand and leading me down to the basement.
Instead of turning left as I expected, he takes a right into the one hallway I was never allowed to explore. I'd tried one but the door was locked, so I didn't get far. He unlocked the door and opened it to reveal a dungeon.
Is this fucker really gonna show me my family as a way of force? He's got another thing coming.
As he leads me down the hallway my heart starts beating faster and my palms get sweaty, alerting me to Hunter's presence. I can hear Hayden in the background and focus on the clanking of the keys Malachi has. I've made up my mind, bitch is going down.
I summon up my powers and slam Malachi into the wall, using my hold over the air to hold him there. I grab the keys from his hand and go to quick work letting everyone out, noticing only some of them have cuffs around their wrists.
"SUNSHINE," Hunter yells, smashing me in a hug, "I MISSED YOU SO DAMN MUCH. NEVER LEAVE ME AGAIN."
I squirm out of his arms and shoot him a glare. "So now you know how I feel huh? Imagine that for 2 whole fucking years."
"I fucked up Sunshine, I know. But I had a good reason. I was figuring out how to take down your father and I believe your magic was the missing piece I was waiting for."
"Wait what plan?"
"I'll tell you later, Sunshine," he says, whispering in my ear and turning me around so I was facing the rest of the group. They all give me hugs, voicing their angers and worried but for the most part, they say we should talk later, about everything.
When we're out of this damn prison.
I go to turn around and leave the asshole Malachi around but Granny grabs my shoulder to stop me.
"Ok good job," Granny says, patting my shoulder, "but let him down now please."
"Uh... what?" I ask.
"I said let him down."
"Why? He's not with us."
"Yes, he is."
"You sure about that? Pretty sure he just tried to force me into marriage."
"And he forced thoughts of how attractive he is into my mind," Hunter says, making me whip my head around to look in his direction.
"He did what now?" I ask, confused as hell.
"Well.... uhm... he... you see... I was saying... but then... I TOOK IT BACK I SWEAR.... dumpster fire.... I promise." Hunter stutters out, most of his words incorrigible.
"Enough gibberish, son." Granny says, lightly hitting him on the back of the head. "Now let Malachi down, Seraphina."
"OK, but you better explain." I say, leveling her with a hard stare as I release my hold on Malachi.
"Ah, thank you darling," Malachi says, winking at me.
"Uh-uh buddy, back the fuck up." Hunter says, jealousy evident in his tone.
"I didn't mean any harm," Malachi chuckles, "I just enjoy finally meeting everyone."
"Ok, why did I have to let him down? And what do you mean finally meeting everyone?" I ask, annoyed at this whole situation.
"Because darling," Malachi says, grabbing my hand, "I am your twin."
***A/N***
Yes, yes, I know they don't look alike. Everything will be explained. I just really wanted Malachi to be forced into the group.
