Chapter 6
I don't dream that night. My sleep isn't good at first. First, it's too hot, then it's too cold, I'm not really comfortable and my instincts awake. I don't know what happened, but when I awake the next time, my feet are incredibly cold, and I can't breathe.
The smell of musk, cedar wood, and a hint of leather fills my nostrils, and something tickles my neck. I try to move, but that also doesn't work.
I turn my head and am relieved when I can finally breathe again, but at the same time, I wonder what this incredible weight is that made me incapable of breathing.
My eyes flutter open and... I see nothing. A black wall blocks my sight. It takes some time for me to wake up enough to realize that it's a chest. Then It hits me. It's not something that is on top of me. It's someone.
I can feel the warm sensation of two arms and a leg that are wrapped around me. It feels like a nose that tickles my neck, and the sound of slow and deep breaths reaches my ears.
I listen to the steady heartbeat that pounds in a slow, steady rhythm while trying to figure out what to do now. Moving is not an option because whoever lies on top of me is heavy as fuck.
I sigh. I think I'll just have to wait. My eyes dart around till they find a black strand of hair I would recognize everywhere. Oh shit.
I turn my head slightly and I see more of that silky raven hair that belongs to a certain person. For god's sake, how did Loki get into my bed??
The shock disappears rather quickly and I find myself inhaling deeply. I close my eyes again and let myself drown in this feeling of proximity. I know that I should be afraid, but instead, I feel safe. It feels right.
A smile tugs at my lips. Only a few hours before I was drowning in self-pity because I thought I would never be able to even see him without something between us and now he's in my bed, holding me and I'm even able to smell him.
I appreciate the warmth that radiates from his body and surrounds me like a blanket and pulls me back to sleep. For the first time in ten years, I don't suffer from nightmares.
It's a peaceful, deep sleep. Hours later I wake up again. My face contorts into a yawn but I stop halfway when I'm met with two incredible blue eyes that stare at me in confusion.
Loki. I almost forgot. He doesn't bother to move his body off me. His body is still pressing mine into the mattress. His arms are still wrapped around me and so is his leg. "What a pleasant surprise, darling."
He smirks. "But how did you get into my bed?" "This isn't my bed?" Shit. "Of course not. I am not able to leave that cage." I groan. "I blame this on my sleep-walking habit. I'm sorry for invading your privacy."
"I do not complain. Some time passed since I got such a beautiful woman lying beneath me." My cheeks flush a bright crimson red. "Would you mind moving off me?" I softly ask, but he doesn't move. "No. I like this."
He buries his nose in the crook of my neck again and I can feel him inhaling deeply. "But you are heavy and I need to breathe normally or I'm gonna pass out." I try again and to my surprise, he moves his body off me and lies down beside me.
However, one of his arms remains around my waist. "You smell divine, darling." I'm sure my whole face is red by the time.
"I think, I should go." My words are barely audible. I'm afraid that he won't let me go but keep me as a hostage. I hear him sigh but his grip around me loosens.
I slip out of bed and glace back at him before stepping through the door to his bedroom and crossing the room to reach the security door. Once I reach it, I suddenly feel his presence behind me.
Arms snake around me and I panic but he only pulls me against his chest and hugs me. "Thank you, darling." He whispers. "I never slept this good for a long while." I relax and lean into him, absorbing the feeling until he lets go of me.
He takes a few steps back and puts his hands above his head. "Just open that door and step out. I won't try to escape. I promise." He assures and takes another step back to demonstrate that he's telling the truth.
I look at him, trying to catch some emotions but he doesn't let anything slip through his barriers. That's when I realize something. My eyes widen before I nod at him. "I would not betray the first person that trusts me." He says through gritted teeth. The look on his face is almost painful.
I can feel the honesty behind his words which confirms my assumption. Loki changed. Not fully, but some little things changed. He starts to trust people again.
I use the voice recognition before letting the scanner scan my eye. The door opens and I step through, closing it behind me and turning around to look at the raven-haired god.
He looks like he's suffering physical pain and I can see the loneliness in his eyes again. It's been a long time since we have him captured in that cell and I suddenly realize that I must be the first person in two years he could see without a barrier.
I shudder at that thought. "I'll be back later and bring you some breakfast." He nods at me. I took a look at the food he normally gets in his cell. It's no food. It's disgusting.
I run to my room and change before heading to the kitchen where Tony is already waiting for me. The look he has on his face is not very assuring and I quickly notice that something is incredibly wrong.
Oh no. Not the best conditions for what I had in mind. "What did you do in Loki's cell tonight?" Oh shit. "I saw the recording from the security cameras. You stepped in at one in the morning. Why?"
I gulp. This must seem very wrong. "Tony, you know about my sleep-walking habit?" He sighs but nods. "Not the best place for a little night walk though."
"I know, Tony, but he didn't even try to escape and he didn't even attempt to harm me. I think he's ready to get out of there." I can see his brain working. "How do we know that he won't escape and destroy the whole world?"
"We could give him his own room and an area in the Tower where he can move freely. Additionally, we can ask Thor to come for a few weeks and help us watch over his little brother. Loki really needs to get out of there."
Tony's eyes pierce mine but after some seconds he nods. "Okay, y/n. We'll try this, but when he puts a single toe out of line, I'll lock him back up instantly and he'll never step out of that glass box again."
"I don't think this will happen, but you shouldn't forget who he is, Tony. A little difficult Loki should be. He's the god of mischief after all." He nods.
With the biggest smile plastered all over my face, I almost run to Loki's cell. I'm carrying a plate with some croissants, a bowl of oatmeal, some fried eggs, and a cup of tea. When I reach his cell, he's already waiting for me.
I motion for him to take a step back before opening the security door and stepping inside. He smiles at me and I pass him the plate before sitting down on his sofa. "So you keep me company now?" He sits down beside me and takes a sip of the tea.
"Actually, you'll have plenty of company soon, if you choose to." I snatch a croissant from the plate but only a second later he snatches it back and bites into it with relish.
"I managed to get you a different room. One with fewer locks and more privacy. Oh, and you'll get the privilege to wander around a bit." "That's very kind of you, darling." He smirks down at me and snatches another croissant out of my hands. "Ey!"
I can't help but smile. I grab another one and quickly bite into it, but he snatches it from my hand and bites it too, smirking at me. My mouth falls agape and he chuckles.
This low sound makes something in my stomach stir. "I don't know much about asgardian manners, but on earth, we normally dont bite everything that gets in our way. We eat one thing and then take the next." I explain, rolling my eyes at him.
When he averts his eyes from the croissants in his hands to look at me I take the opportunity and steal back one of the croissants. "Do you have siblings?" He suddenly asks.
My heart stops for a second. Sadness washes over me and I feel my heart getting heavy with yearning but try to keep my happy facial expression. "I do." His eyes seem to bore into my soul for a second, and I see something flash in the depths of blue but before I can examine it further he turns his head away and chuckles lightly.
"You have siblings and don't understand the meaning of the bite-everything-within-your-reach philosophy?" I shake my head in response, and he looks at me with unbelieving eyes. "Whatever." He clears his throat and eyes the fried eggs. "Tell me about the others."
