Chapter Fourteen
Shoto poked his head out of his room as he heard his father pounding on Kiyo's door. "Kiyo!" His voice carried and anyone who had been trying to sleep in was no longer going to have that luxury.
He spotted his father angrily knocking on Kiyo's door. Kiyo didn't respond.
"OPEN THIS DOOR!" Endeavor roared.
Ice suddenly encased the door and threatening spikes shot out of it. One of them sliced Endeavor's fist and he withdrew with a growl of rage as blood gushed from the wound. Shoto's jaw dropped, Kiyo had never defied their father before. Though after yesterday...he realized he'd been blind to how much pain she'd been in all along. He should have seen this coming, he should have been there for her, she was his little sister and he'd let her down.
Endeavor let out one final roar of rage before kicking the ice covered door down. Shoto exited his room hoping to intervene before their father could beat Kiyo senseless, but froze as he looked into her room, it was empty. The window was flung wide open. She must have jumped out and taken off.
"KIYO!" Endeavor snarled in rage as he realized she'd slipped away and left her phone behind so he couldn't contact her.
...
Dabi woke with a start as something solid, slightly squishy and very cold dropped on top of him. His eyes snapped open and he paused as he looked at the girl who'd jumped on him in his sleep. "Kiyo?" He asked unsure as the girl sitting atop him did not look like the little sister who'd come to visit him the night before. All of her hair was a striking snow white, her lips were a vibrant icy blue and her right eye that used to be teal glowed bright blinding blue like the color of her hellfire. Her left eye was a little more subtle but had a faint silver glow beneath the usual steel grey. "What the hell happened?" He caught her now stark white hair in his hands.
Kiyo shrugged, "I'm not sure, I woke up like this."
Dabi frowned, his hair had changed when he'd pushed himself to his breaking point too. "Do you feel okay?"
Kiyo nodded.
"Are you sure I feel like there's a human sized ice cube sitting on me." Dabi pressed a hand to her forehead, she was cold as ice.
"I feel better than ever." Kiyo grinned and leapt to her feet. "I snuck out the window, it was kind of exhilarating."
"What happened when you got home last night?" Dabi asked as he sat up and attempted to warm up the parts of his body she'd come into contact with as they were now quite cold.
Kiyo smiled, "Dad was pissed but I realized something."
"Yeah, what's that?" Dabi draped his blanket over top of her still not reassured that she was alright no matter how lively she seemed to be.
"What do I have to be scared of? He can't burn me, I'm faster than him so it would be hard for him to hurt me and my quirk is stronger than his." Kiyo smiled. "So, I told him I wasn't afraid of him anymore."
Dabi watched her for a moment as she shrugged out of the blanket he'd wrapped her in. "Damn, I wish I could have seen that." He chuckled, "hey, I want to test something, sorry if it hurts." He beckoned her toward him.
Kiyo approached him curiously as he activated his quirk and blue flames sprang around his wrist. He touched them to her bare arm but nothing happened. "I told you I can't be burned." She pointed.
"Just wanted to make sure that didn't change when all this happened."He motioned to her change in appearance.
Kiyo nodded, "I guess that's fair." She felt so much more alive than she ever had she wanted to do something rebellious. "Can we do something fun?"
Dabi threw her a curious look wondering what she thought of as fun. He knew of several abandoned buildings they could set ablaze but he wasn't sure whatever this little rebellious streak of hers was was up to arson just yet. "What kind of fun?"
Kiyo strained to think for a moment about all the stupid strict rules at the Todoroki House, "like eat a bunch of junk food, see an R rated movie and get tattoos or piercings." She prattled off a list.
Dabi chuckled. "Sure, why not."
"Really?!" Kiyo asked with a grin.
Dabi hooked his arm around her and led her toward the fire escape, "really."
Kiyo ate sweets and junkfood until her stomach hurt, then they saw a ridiculously gory movie before stepping into a tattoo parlor. Dabi watched her carefully throughout their adventures, her lips stayed a vibrant blue color and her skin remained cold to the touch but she acted as if she had boundless energy and seemed functional, a tad manic (though that was probably some form of self preservation from all the recent emotional trauma that had broken her) but mostly herself.
The alternative girl behind the booking counter looked up and her lips quirked into a smile as she spotted them, "how can I help you?"
Dabi placed a hand atop Kiyo's head and gently steered her forward. "Whatever she wants."
The girl behind the counter chuckled, "uptight parent?" She asked Kiyo with a smile.
"Very." Kiyo responded coolly.
The girl chuckled, "I'll tell them you're old enough." She winked, "have fun with your teenage rebellion." She hopped off her stool and went to speak with one of the artists. He was tall and covered in ink and had a plethora of facial piercings and some decorative piercings in the curved ram's horns atop his head. The receptionist returned after a bit and waved them on back.
"We doing ink or piercings?" The guy with the horns asked them curiously.
Since it was sort of a spur of the moment decision, Kiyo couldn't think of any ideas she'd want for a tattoo. It had been tempting to tell him she wanted an All Might tattoo just to see the look on her father's face but as nice as All Might was as a teacher, she didn't really admire him enough for that.
"Piercings." Kiyo replied suddenly feeling nervous.
Dabi chuckled as he noticed she was getting nervous. "I'll get some too."
"Really?" Kiyo asked excitedly.
"Want me to go first?" He pondered.
Kiyo nodded.
Dabi sat in the comfy black chair while the guy with the horns set to work sterilizing everything. He took his time with his task as Dabi told him what he wanted. Kiyo watched as he got several piercings around the curve of his ear and fashioned them with some plain silver cuffs. He made it look easy and it helped quell her nervousness.
"How about you?" The horned guy asked her with a smile as she flipped through a small pamphlet on different types of facial piercings.
Kiyo pointed to two of them.
"Septum and spider bites. Nice choice." He patted the comfy black chair Dabi had vacated and she nervously took a seat. She didn't know why she was suddenly scared, she'd experienced all kinds of pain before. "Alright, the septum is gonna be a bit uncomfortable, you'll feel a lot of pressure." He warned her.
Kiyo nodded her understanding and braced herself. She felt the poke of the needle and a bit of pressure but it wasn't enough for her to react.
The young man currently holding a needle through her septum chuckled softly, "damn, I've seen grown ass men cry when I do that. You took that like a champ." His smile started to falter, "is it too cold in here?" He asked worriedly as he felt the iciness of her skin through his gloves.
"No." Kiyo replied simply as he replaced the needle with a cute hoop with a small crystal bat on the end.
She hardly felt the other needles as he made quick work of the spider bites and gave her two small crystal studs that matched the crystal on the bat. He held up a mirror for her to see and she smiled. She didn't look like her twin anymore, she was just Kiyo now. Her strangely glowing eyes flicked to Dabi and he offered her a smile.
"Next time, let's get tattoos." Kiyo beamed, causing the guy with the horns to laugh.
Dabi chuckled, "sure."
They paid at the front desk and left a tip before taking their leave.
Kiyo headed home well after dark not caring that she had school the next day or how angry her father would be. She stepped through the front door to find her father and Shoto sitting in the front room in an uncomfortable silence, waiting for her.
Their eyes widened as she stepped through the door. She didn't acknowledge either of them and headed for her room without a word. Shoto got up and followed after her.
"Kiyo!" He caught up to her as she reached her room.
She noticed her bedroom door was missing and there were now bars on her windows to keep her from escaping. A smirk twisted onto her lips, as if that was enough to stop her. Shoto caught her wrist in his hand and drew back with a gasp as he realized she was ice cold.
"Kiyo? Are you alright?" He asked in awe.
"I'm fine." Kiyo replied coolly.
"What happened?" He asked.
"Guess my hair finally caught on that I was tired of being compared to you." She said with a shrug.
Shoto looked at the vibrant blue hue of her lips, the glow in her eyes and the crystal piercings adorning her face. That wasn't all that had changed. He stayed in the hall as she disappeared into her room.
