chapter nineteen
Alex's POV
"Alright little ones, I've see you."
Vylad and I slowly break our gaze and look over to Leo, feeling anxious every inch. My hand is dropped like my heart that's currently in my stomach.
I fake a smile. "I see you too, Leo. I'm glad we're appreciating each other."
He seems unamused and shakes his head, placing his hands on our shoulders before sitting down in a chair, eyeing us skeptically. Just when I begin to quake in my boots, he laughs.
He has the audacity to laugh at me.
"You should've seen the look on your faces!" Leo tells us, propping himself up better on the chair, invested. "When did you get together? Today? Yesterday?"
I look over at Vylad, reaching for his hand to grab onto. I squeeze it, unsure what to say. My head drops to look at my feet. Vylad speaks for me.
"Two months."
Leo continues to chuckle, diving into a conversation with Vylad about the secret. Never once are the other two brought up. They go on and on, bringing up the fans and how pleased they be. Even Leo's fiancée would be thrilled to hear the news. Sometimes I wonder if Leo is a grown adult or a teenage girl.
He looks us over, smiling to himself. He mumbles something like "to be young and in love again" which confuses me greatly. He's engaged and still young. I do not understand why he would mumble such a thing like that.
Vylad lets go of my hand, finding it time to do so. The others can still walk in, and I'd hate for them to find out like this.
For two months we've kept quiet. Never once wanting to hold hands in an area where we could be caught. No kisses on the cheek or walking too close. Eyes are all around, cameras closer.
But now, we've slipped. Somehow we let our guard down and sat on the floor together, playing a game of Go Fish. We weren't even doing anything too romantic. We went to reshuffle the deck of cards and reached for the deck at the same time. His hand landed on mine and lingered there for a moment. Leo just has a freaky sense of when people are dating.
"Why have you kept it a secret? The fans would love it," Leo says, a bit confused on the topic. He sits on the floor, reaching for the deck of cards and shuffling them himself.
He eyes us while he does it, claiming he doesn't intend to come off as a cheater in any way. He finished and disperses seven cards to each player, looking at Vylad to go first. Vylad makes a comment of wanting to change the card game.
Vylad looks down at the deck of cards, picking up one from the pile before placing down two jacks and a two, discarding a four of hearts. He turns to me, motioning that it's my turn to go.
"We weren't afraid of the fans," I say, picking up a card and rolling my eyes. I look down at my hand, putting down a jack to play off of Vylad before putting down a five, six, seven of spades. I get rid of the eight of diamonds. "It was more so Y/N and Laurance."
Leo looks up and hums. He repeats my actions, not having any cards to put down and gets rid of one. It repeats and goes back to Vylad.
It stays silent for a few minutes, making another rotation around us before someone went out. Leo reaches for the pen and paper behind us, adding an "L" to the list of letters.
"We didn't know how they'd react," Vylad adds, counting up his cards before telling Leo his score. "So we didn't say anything."
Leo hums again, groaning when he sees that he's in the negatives within he first round. He curses. Leo's always been dreadful with card games. He nods his head and looks up at us, having Vylad shuffle the deck and deal this time. It's my turn to go first.
"I think you should," Leo hums, looking up at the time halfway through our round. He goes on to remind us practice will start soon and that whoever has the highest score will be declared winner, even if it's not 500. "You can tell them in person. . . Your fans may not be the same case."
I nod my head in what feels like defeat. I get rid of an unwanted card, looking up to Leo to start his turn.
It isn't much longer until the round finishes and Vylad is declared the winner. Leo stands up and dusts off his hands, looking down at us.
I slowly stand. "Leo, how did you know about us?"
He smiles. "I've had a feeling for a while now. Just didn't want to say anything. Now, get to practice."
Vylad slowly rises after us. He has the deck in hand and is putting it in the box. Leo nods before walking off, glancing back at us for a moment. Vylad tucks the cards into his pocket, walking us to the stage. "As the winner, I say we tell them."
I hate how he calls the shots.
