chapter eighteen
Bright lights and screaming fans. Somehow each time I step in stage I fall in love with what I do all over again. It's like I forget what it feels like and it's a reminder.
We're in Meteli. Birthplace of the two Zvahl siblings. Of course if you say this, Laurance's head will get huge. He thinks he's a big deal because he's from here.
I hold my microphone in the air, listening to the fans sing the sound for us. Every time I do this I panic because I think that the fans won't actually sing along and I'll just look silly, but it's a pleasant surprise when they sing along. I'd cry on stage if they didn't.
The song ends, leaving my turn to talk. I was picked on a few times before, that I remember. Lately, I haven't been picked on and it's wonderful. People just pity you after you're cheated on.
It's fine.
"We're trying something new tonight," I say, looking around at the crowd in front of me. "You know, it's kind of funny. You trust a guy only to learn that he backstabs you when you're all the way in a different city. I guess I just have you guys to thank more for being so faithful to me." I can't help but let out a laugh, feeling a bit better about the situation since I've been getting my feelings out through honesty. I'm still a mess at times, but it works with me. "I wrote a song. The others have been kind enough to actually try and learn it so we can preform it. It looks like you'll hear it first."
Laurance looks over at me, playfully jesting at me. "Not all guys are like that."
"Yeah?" I ask, tilting my head to the side before bringing my microphone to my mouth. "This is for all the girls who's had a crappy boyfriend. I introduce to you, Loyal to Me!"

There's an upcoming concert in two weeks time. Leo says we're having a break afterwards until then. In my mind, a break just means to stop preforming concerts for a little while. It never really truly ends.
I look over at Laurance, seeing him fiddle around with his guitar pic. "What are you doing?"
He holds it up, smiling softly. Worn down, faded. It's old. That's for sure. "It's my lucky one. You know I'm one to always have it. With me on stage during performances, and it's with me during practice too."
I shake my head with a chuckle, reaching forward to grab onto it. I twirl it around in my hand, letting my eyes linger all around the object. I look up at him once again, smiling softly.
He's truly convinced this thing is lucky.
This pic is Laurance's first pic. He used this pic throughout all of our YouTube videos, and it carried on when we became famous. During our first concert, he used it. Eventually he got old and he feared of it becoming no good, so he held it to the side.
I never understood why Laurance did that. In my eyes it was always an object. I've never done something like that. I've casted aside old pics that I don't need.
Vylad gets rid of broken drum sticks. Sometimes he throws them away, stores them away somewhere, or he gives them to some lucky fan.
The two of us never saw the need for that.
And Alex, she doesn't technically need one. You don't use a pic when you're playing the bass. You most definitely don't use one when you're playing the piano or keyboard. The only time she uses one is when she's going along on her own guitar, but that isn't often. Usually during times we're doing something that doesn't require a bass.
He takes back the object, placing it back in its place before smiling at it once more and focusing his attention on me. It's silent between us, no conversation heard.
I clear my throat after an awkward silence, kicking at the floor with the toe of my shoe. "Hey Laurance," I start, biting the inside of my cheek. "Ah, did you. . . Did you really mean what you said about men the other day? At the concert? How there's good ones?"
Laurance hums for a moment before nodding his head. "Yeah, yeah I did."
I smile softly, feeling relief from the reassurance. If I'm being honest, maybe there was something for Laurance hidden away when I was with Gene. That I thought it completely went away. I suppose when I called it off with Gene and Laurance was available again, it was brought to light.
"Think I'd find one?" I ask, looking him in the eye.
He stares at me for a moment before his smile grows wide. "I do."
