EVERNGELISM!!

A while back, if someone would have told me that I would one day find myself in a group of people going along the road preaching the gospel, I'd have thought, they lost their mind!

Evangelism seemed like such a crazy idea to me, yeah I knew it's in the bible and all but I couldn't fathom the idea of preaching the gospel to people who were hardly interested. Until I found myself doing it and liking it! 😱😁

So my church  recently held a day where members would go out and preach to guys along the road. I didn't sign up that day because I didn't know I'd commit. It was to be held on a Saturday so it was announced the weekend before. Needless to say I debated within myself all week if I would attend or not. Finally Friday came and I called my husband at work and asked if he'd watch the kids the following day for a couple of hours. Thank God, he hadn't planned anything for that day so he agreed. Come next day, am all a ball of nerves. I kept my mind from playing out the scenarios in my head because then I might have just skipped it all together.

I went, met with the guy in charge of our group and first thing I did was give a disclaimer: "hey, my name is June and I need you to know that I have no idea what I am doing! This is my first time!"

Thankfully he was all kind and understanding, he told me to just watch and learn. Today is a learning process.

So, watch I did. With my new found safety net, I watched as we went from stall to stall preaching to unsuspecting business men and women! Most were well receptive, the moment you told them of your agenda there, they went silent and let you talk.

At one meeting, the gentleman whom we had stopped to talk to, had lots of questions, for example: why do many churches practice different religions yet there is only one God?

That's quite the question isn't it? Thankfully our leading pastor was well prepared. I found myself being pushed by the spirit to talk. This particular gentleman was so concerned about what various pastors say etc so I asked for an opportunity to speak and it was granted.

I told him what I will tell you right now: There is eternity after this life, do not leave the fate of your eternity in the hands of another human being! Yes pastors act as great spiritual guides and leaders but we are all well aware that the world is filled with con men disguised as men of God. You need to know that what they are preaching to you is the true word of God.

How? You ask.
By: Reading your bible.
Look for God in his word.
Look for Christ in his word.
When you genuinely look for Him, He will show up. He always does! He will reveal Himself in His word. The word of God has life, it is Life, it doesn't come back empty!

When you know your bible, you will be able to differentiate between a true servant of God and a Liar! Do not leave the fate of your eternity in the hands of human beings, leave it in Gods hands. Find him in his word!

Anyway, after that spurt of courage, I accompanied another one of my team members to a group of three young gentlemen. First let me describe what these guys looked like: unkempt, they all wore hats (marvins) covering what I only assumed was not very clean dreadlocks. Now there is a reason why I have decided to describe these guys; they are not people I would approach on my own merit, ever!

When my partner told them that we wanted to tell them about Christ, they went silent and listened to us! They couldn't even look us in the eyes! They had nothing to say in return other than fidget uncomfortably in their seats but they let us talk! This was big for me. My whole fear of evangelism was washed away after that. I had worried about people chasing us away because; who said they wanted to hear about Jesus? Yet the experience was completely different, the Name JESUS CHRIST has power, I tell you. The moment you set out to go preach about Him, he doesn't leave you alone. He goes with you. You do not go in your own power or even merit but by His! He is by your side.

Our two groups met later in church, we gave an account of our experiences and the report was fairly the same. Most people were welcoming, while others were uncomfortable, a few were not as welcoming; a even team said that they approached two women who told them that: we do not compromise! To be honest I don't know what that means but they were chased out of the shop...Anyway on they continued with their ministry!

Our pastor told us, it doesn't hurt to tell people about Christ, imagine you go to heaven and your neighbor goes to hell, you can see him burning down there, maybe that could have been avoided had you told him about Christ. This is a message to both you and I, Share Christ, the worst the can tell you is NO!

ACTS 13:47  For this is what the Lord has commanded us: 'I have made you a light for the gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.' ...

Mark 16:15- He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach to all creation.'

Matthew 5:14-16- You are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand and it gives light to everyone In the house. In the same way let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.

Matthew 28:19-20 therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you, and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Psalm 105:1  give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name; make known among the nations what he has done.

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts, set apart Christ as Lord. always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

Romans 10:17 Consequently, Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ...

So will I volunteer for another evangelical trip? You bet I will! You don't have to go preaching by the side of the road... There are numerous opportunities for us to share Christ, ask God to show you and when the opportunity arises, ask for His guidance and rem He is right there with you. You are in good hands.

Evangelism is a command: Acts 1:8 and ye shall receive power, after that the Holy spirit is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, Judea , Samaria and unto all ends of the earth...

All the above verses and many more in the bible clearly shows what God expects of us. You have to get over that awkward phase, and you can only do it by going for it! Talk to your friends about Christ, ask God to show you how...

All the best.

As usual, feel free to mention anything that isn't biblical.

God bless you all.
