"The Monster Under the Bed" is a children's tale....sort of.  It is a bit scarier than the movie "Little Monsters.  And the little girl is much more frightened, and the ending is not so light-hearted.  Though the monster is not near as spooky looking as the one pictured above, and you don't have to deal with the blood and the gore like you do in a lot of "scary" stories, it's not exactly something I would recommend reading to a toddler at bedtime.  But for an older kid, or a kid at heart adult, it was a pretty good read.  You can't help but wonder what happened to the girl next, but as far as the monster under the bed was concerned, the story was done.

Pros:  suspenseful without having to be gross.

Cons:  I would have liked to see a more definite conclusion for the girls end and not just he monster.  Could be because I'm a mother and I'm not to fond of a story ending where the girl becomes an orphan.

Why you should read this story:  Very creative take on the "monster that lives under my bed" scheme of things.  Despite the wondering what happens next, very enjoyable and still manages to give the reader the heebie-jeebies.
