I have always loved mermaids, and when I found out about the Naga creatures, I loved them just as much.  And I pine to read more naga stories.  I loved the movie "Splash," with Tom Hanks.  He falls in the water and gets rescued by the mermaid, and then she comes to visit him when he needs her the most.  This story is kind of the opposite of that.

Scarlet is just a little girl, growing up in an abusive home.  She finds solace in the forest, and that's how she meets the soon love of her life.  He is blue, he's half snake, and he's a sweetheart, of the most tender kind.  He heals her ankle, and she then has to go home.  Home to hell.  I wonder if the father killed the mother, as Scarlet is soon left all alone.  With him.

She can't even wait until she's 18 to move away from him.  She once again finds solace in the forest.  She once again finds him.  He knew even then, that she was his.  Very interesting "love" scene between the two of them, as he still has snake anatomy.  But even more than that, young love, crazy love, it's very much the real thing.

There is a moment where she is stolen away, and afraid she might be carrying some other naga's baby, but her mate took care of that.  In their society, to rape a woman is punishable by death.  Our world could learn from that, and I'll leave it at that.  But, even after that is taken care of, there is a major cliff hanger at the last chapter, and the author admits to fighting depression and having to take care of business.  So this may or may not be a finished story.  Enjoyable anyway.
