This is one of the sweetest fantasies I have ever read.  Only con besides that there may be some violence in here and maybe a little too much fluff for some people, is that at the end of the day it's still very much a teen story with wrecked teen hormones that make it difficult to see things logically.  But at least it has a sequel that makes you see what happens next.

Sybelle is a typical high-school girl.  Battles sickness a lot, and loves animals.  She takes home with her a stray cat, and then finds out this is no regular cat.  It's sort of like a Princess and the Frog story, but with a much fluffier animal.  And the animal has a lot of stigma around it just because of it's color.

There is some animosity brewing between Balto the black, and his white twin, Sylvester.  And the immortal group of "familiars," it leaves quite a few places where they can be very violent.  A reckless love story and a girl on the brink of self-discovery, "Black Cat" is a tale of longing in both romance and brotherly love.
