Episode 4: One And The Same
"I don't understand what could be wrong with you..." The scientist said, looking over her notes as Talon stood from his chair. "Are you sure we shouldn't let Commander Shard know about this?"
"And let him know his best general is hallucinating? Yeah. Great idea." Talon growled. "And we don't need to understand what's wrong with me. Just how to get rid of it."
"Sir, forgive me for this, but that's not how this works. A core part of getting rid of this is to understand WHAT is causing this. And from my notes? It might be a memory."
"A memory...? One that can punch me?" Talon asked.
"Well, ghosts don't exist. So, I'm just gonna have to say that this is a very powerful memory. One so powerful that it can literally cause you to hurt yourself. Did the traitor ever attack you more than once?"
"No...And when I tried attacking, he kept dodging."
"Because he wasn't really there." The scientist said, scratching her chin. "Do you remember...anything about this person? Because the only thing I can come up with that this is an extremely powerful memory of someone or- No, no. That's silly."
Talon tilted his head. "What? What is?"
"Well...it's either a very powerful memory of someone you used to know...or a past life." The scientist said. "I've been studying an Earth concept called reincarnation in my spare time. So maybe, this person, the traitor is a past life of yours?"
"You're saying I'm the traitor?!" Talon laughed, his eyes beginning to spill tears from laughing so hard. "That's ridiculous! How could I be the traitor if he's dead?!"
"Well...we don't know if he's dead."
"Shard wouldn't lie to us."
"Of course not!" The scientist said. "But...well, maybe he just didn't tell us the whole story. I would suggest looking into this."
"...Maybe." Talon said before walking off. "Thanks. I'll let you know if these weird hallucinations or visions happen again."
"If they do, I'll have to tell Commander Shard. The mutants are coming back with the rebels according to some of the guards. And speaking of which, General Kreji told me to tell you that he's pleased!" The scientist said as she looked at her tablet.
Talon grinned at that and then walked off. Maybe killing a Rebel, a REAL one would get his mind off this...but as he walked, he felt himself stop. Talon wanted to move to where the Rebels would be. But he almost...needed to be somewhere else.
He wanted to find out what was going on with him.
But then, the mutants showed up, with Conker holding all three of them with her multiple arms. "General! We got em."
"Excellent." Talon grinned, taking his mind off everything. "I want them imprisoned. I'll interrogate them personally...but there might be a bit of blood." Talon grinned as he showed his green blade.
Savage huffed. "I wanted to eat one of them..."
"Hey, you'll get to eat a Rebel one day." Maddie comforted, rubbing Savage's back as she and her other mutants left the room and imprisoned the Rebels in cells.
Talon walked over, hands behind his back as he watched them. "I'll look over them. Good work. Report back to Commander Shard for your next mission."
The mutants nodded before heading out...all the while secretly sneaking away so they wouldn't HAVE to get another mission.
Talon then looked back at the cells, his green eyes narrowing. "I've waited for this moment."
But then, he heard a groan and looked at the middle cell. The leader of the Rebel Alliance. Nova. "Ah, so you're awake."
Nova rubbed her head, running her hand through her red hair. "What is...Where am I...?" She then saw the Shade insignia on her cell and her eyes widened before she growled and immediately began to bang on the cell. "YOU BASTARDS!!!" But then...she went quiet.
Talon grinned. "Quiet? And I head the almighty Rebel leader always had something to say."
Nova was completely still, her eyes wide and staring at Talon. As if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
Talon was only getting irritated by this. "Stop staring like that."
Nova didn't move, her ears beginning to ring. As if the whole world was spinning at a fast speed.
"ANSWER ME!!!" Talon roared, taking out his green blades and pointing them at Nova, even though she was in a cell.
"It's...It's really you..." Nova breathed, her eyes watering with tears. "You...You were dead...w-we...we thought..."
"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!" Talon roared.
"Talon...WE THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD." Nova said, ignoring what Talon was telling her. "Macy cried over you!! We both did!!!"
"HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?!?" Talon roared, punching her cell.
Nova then realized it, finally hearing Talon's voice. Her eyes widened. "You...You don't remember me...?"
"IF YOU DON'T START MAKING SENSE, I'LL KILL YOU AND YOUR PITIFUL FRIENDS!!!" Talon said, his eyes going completely green.
Nova's eyes only watered with more tears and she stood back. "Talon. It's Nova! Come on, I know somewhere inside of you is the one who betrayed his entire race just to protect the world! To protect the universe! Somewhere is our friend!"
"I WOULD NEVER BE FRIENDS WITH A REBEL! I am LOYAL to The Shade, and Commander Shard." Talon said.
"Shard KILLED you! Don't you remember?!"
"Shard killed THE TRAITOR! He would never hurt one of his own soldiers!"
"YOU ARE THE TRAITOR!!!" Nova screamed, finally crying as she gritted her teeth. "Please, Tal...don't you remember us? Don't you remember Macy?"
Talon was frozen for a few seconds before his head began to pound and he held it with his hands. He then roared. "SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP!!! I'M NOT THE TRAITOR!!!!"
"YOU ARE, TALON!!!" Nova cried out, banging against the cell, trying to get Talon to remember something. ANYTHING.
Talon roared once more before he slammed his fist against the release button of the cell and stomped into Nova's cell, taking out his blades. "I'M GONNA ENJOY KILLING YOU..."
But when he raised his arm, something grabbed it. Talon turned his head and was then punched across the room and out of the cell.
Nova had a very confused expression, her cheeks still puffy from the tears. To her? Talon just threw himself across the room.
But what Talon was seeing was something far different. Talon groaned as he got to his feet, but just as Nova was about to run to freedom, Talon shut the cell again.
And then, there he was again. The traitor, purple blades out.
"HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO DIE?!?" Talon growled, lunging at the traitor, who dodged and then ran out of the prison, which Talon followed. Talon wasn't even processing the fact that this was just a hallucination.
A few Shade warriors saw Talon chasing something, but were confused on what. A few asked, but Talon didn't seem to hear them.
Eventually, the traitor lead Talon to a a dark room that only had green lighting everything up. Talon stomped in, his blades still unleashed. Talon then closed the door. "NO ESCAPE..."
The traitor was silent, and waited for Talon to attack, which he did. The traitor just smirked before dodging the thrust of Talon's blade. And then he dodged again, and again, and again. Talon eventually roared before the traitor grabbed Talon by the head and began slamming him against something with a lot of buttons. No, keypads.
Talon eventually roared and got back up, slashing the traitor, but only to see nothing there. "NO!!!!! WHY DO I KEEP FALLING FOR THIS?!?!"
But then, the screen began to play something. He was in communications. Talon turned around and then saw a file.
General_Talon
Talon raised an eye before curiously tapping the screen, accessing the file...it only had a recording, taken from some kind of point of view...and who did he see the camera, or whoever's eyes were recording?
The traitor.
As Talon watched, his green eyes widened and he froze. He then looked at the corner of the screen, and saw this was recorded from General Kreji's memory core. Before he was turned into a mechanical hybrid.
Shard told him that The Rebel Alliance was the one who took out Kreji...not the traitor.
But then, the door opened up behind him and Talon turned around, and his green eyes once again widened.
Kreji. His red eyes narrowed and tendrils sprouted out from his back, all crackling with red electricity. "Leave the premise, General."
"Kreji...why did Shard lie to us about you? About what happened to you?!"
"Leave the premise, General." Kreji repeated, his robotic voice burning into Talon's ears.
"But why?!" Talon exclaimed. "I'm seeing so many things!! Am I the traitor?!"
Kreji's eyes widened before they narrowed again and the tendrils suddenly grabbed Talon's neck and lifted him into the air. "Memory of Subject Talon is compromised. Subject reset commencing."
"R-RESET?!" Talon exclaimed before one of the tendrils PLUGGED itself into the back of Talon's head and began shocking him.
Kreji just watched before he closed the door behind him. "Reset Initiated. Progress: 18%."
