Chapter Two
When I got to my apartment the lights were on. I specifically remember turning off. I slowly walk in while putting my hand in my pocket and bringing out Hurricane. I close the door with my foot and put the keys in the bowl by the door.
I look around the living room, clear. No one's in here. I walk into the kitchen to see someone with curly brown hair. She's in a lilac dress, and has a golden leaf crown on her head.
I cough to grab her attention. She turns around and I see my best friend from Camp. "Kaya," I whisper out on the verge of tears. I notice she is, too. She just nods and I run up to her and we hug while crying into each other's shoulders.
She pulls back and holds me at arm's length. With the lilac dress she has a rainbow scale necklace, blue feather earrings, a silver bracelet, and a pastel rainbow bracelet. On her feet are golden sandals, and her makeup is mascara, black eyeliner, and rainbow eye shadow.
She's Kaya Isabel, Daughter of Iris. During a quest we had together she was turned into a vampire. She didn't go to Eyslium because she needs to find peace, then and only then will she go to Eyslium.
"Hey Marina, you look good."
I laugh threw my tears that've slown down, "Thanks, so do you," I pause and think for a second, "How are you even here?"
"I witch on the other side opened the door, and it needs to be closed," wait what, how could a witch even open the door.
"Okay, well how do we close it?" I ask her, she looks at me with sad eyes, "I love you Kaya, like a sister, you know this but think about all the evil supernaturals on the other side."
She nods her hand in understanding. "But we can hold it off 'til tomorrow night."
I smile at her, "Movie night, with my dead best friend. Who would've thought."
We laugh and I go get pajamas for her and myself. I get myself a Panic! at the Disco tee and grey cotton shorts. For her I give her a smile tank top that has a rainbow on it, and white and blue polka dot pj shorts.
I quickly get changed and toss her the clothes. "Thanks, tomorrow you can give me a tour of this lovely town, and find a way to close off the other side."
"Sounds good to me now get changed while I pick out a movie," she looks back at me from the door to my room.
"Horror."
"Gotcha, and while you're in my room get the bedspread and bring it out."
"Kk."
When she comes out a couple minutes later with the comforter, we get comfortable on the couch and I press play for the Exorcist.
[The Next Morning]
I get changed in my room as Kaya gets changed in the bathroom. Today I decided to wear a white "Love Cupcake" tank top, blue ripped skinny jeans, black hightops with blue on the inside, a blue hollister hoodie, a blue beanie, and a blue and gold arrow bracelet.
Kaya comes out of the bathroom in the same outfit she was wearing yesterday. I put Hurricane in my pocket and my phone in my butt pocket and we walk out of my room. Turning the lights off in the process.
I grab the keys out of the bowl that's by the door, and turn off the lights as we leave. In the hall I turn around and lock the door.
"Where we going today Marina?" Kaya asks me as we head down to the lobby.
"We are going to the park," she gives me a confused look, "I volunteered for an Illuminations Day thing, we have to set up lanterns around the main square."
"Oh, okay, well why am I wearing this outfit?"
"It looks good on you, so if people judge there gonna have to deal with a very angry me."
She laughs knowing how protective I get if someone messes with me or my friends. "So off to the park?"
"Off to the park," I confirm, and hook arms and walk out of the complex. Right across the street is the park so I don't have to drive there.
"Have you run into any monsters yet?"
"Only the Minotaur, and I'm a pro at killing him."
"Wasn't that your seventh time killing him since you've been 12?"
"Yup."
"He'll never leave you alone."
I nod my head in agreement as we start walking around the park. I notice that no one is looking at Kaya weirdly, just right though her, "Kaya only I can see you. So don't pick up anything, they'll just see a floating object."
"Okay, but how can you see me?"
"Oh that, I was blessed by Uncle Hades," I tell her. She makes an 'o' shape with my mouth and I start putting up lanterns.
"As a long time member of the historical society, I am especially proud to be kicking off this day of festivities, thank you volunteers," Mayor Lockwood says as people clap, "Tonight we turn off the town's lights and flare up our lanterns in honor of the Night of Illuminations, started by our founders a hundred years ago. Here's founding family member Tobias Fell with a history lesson."
I don't listen to Tobias as I see Mr. Saltzman with a brown haired boy, and Elena by him. Next to the brown haired boy is a girl slightly shorter than him with black hair. I walk over to Elena, "Hey Elena," she looks over to me and smiles.
"Hey Marina, I'd like to introduce you to my little brother Jeremy," I wave hello at Jeremy and look at the girl. No one says anything about her. He just shakes his head and looks back at Tobias.
I stand next to the black haired girl and look at Tobias Fell. "The first Illumination was held in celebration with the new found prosperity that Mystic Falls enjoyed after the war."
"After the founders stole from all the vampires," the black haired girl corrects, Kaya and I chuckle at this were Jeremy stifles his. Jeremy, noticing I laughed looks at me along with the black haired girl.
Elena noticing that me and Jeremy laughed, "What's so funny?"
I give her a look that says 'are-you-deaf?'. Jeremy motions to Tobias Fell and Elena turns to face him.
"...to indicate that it was safe for their neighbors to come outside again," is all Tobias says.
Again the girl says something else, "Safe from the vampires," this time me and Kaya control our laughs and just smirk. I nudge her and so does Jeremy. They intertwine their hands and I quietly awe and so does Kaya.
Jeremy looks at me confused and I motion to their hands that are now connected. He gives me a surprised look and I frown at him. Why is it confusing that I see them being all lovey dovey.
"Bye Elena, Mr. Saltzman, Jeremy see you later," I walk away with Kaya next to me. Well, I started to but Jeremy grabs my arm.
I turn to face him and give him a look that both Mr. Saltzman and Elena give, "Come with us to the Grill."
I look back at Kaya who just shrugs, "Thanks for the help Kaya," I mumble under my breath and she just smirks.
"So?"
I roll my eyes, "Sure why not?"
He smiles and we start to walk away. I stay in the back still awkward with the whole thing. I feel like I'm intruding, but why is Mr. Saltzman here to? All well.
Up ahead Mr. Saltzman and Elena are talking to Jeremy, I can hear their conversation clearly. "Why did you invite her Jer?" Elena asks him.
"Seriously Jeremy," Mr. Saltzman agrees.
"You guys, she can see ghosts," He tells them. This gets them both to shut up. I look to my left and see Kaya there with a thoughtful look on her face. In front of me, a little to the right is the black haired girl.
I tap her shoulder, and she turns to face me with a surprised look on her face, "May I ask why it's so weird for me to be able to see you?"
"I'm dead," is all she says, and my eyes widen in surprise.
"Sorry for you death. I don't really know what to say to a dead girl," she just laughs which catches Jeremy's attention. I nudge her not so subtly, and she steps to the side still laughing, I glare at her with a smile on my face.
Jeremy smiles too and walks back to us. We just arrived at the Mystic Grill and we all sit down at an outdoor table. Elena and Mr. Saltzman look at me with cautious looks while Jeremy is just smiling at me.
"Jeremy tells us you can see ghosts," Elena states bluntly.
"Well, to be fair, I thought it was normal until they told me that they were dead," Mr. Saltzman looks at me in surprise along with Elena. "Is it not normal to know about the supernatural?"
This time all of them look at me in surprise this time, "Which supernaturals do you know about?" Mr. Saltzman quizzes me.
"There's vampires, werewolves, witches, hybrids, and just yesterday I found out about ghosts. So yea."
"What kind of hybrids?"
"Witch/werewolf, and vampire/werewolf."
"Why not vampire/witch?"
"Vampires are against nature where witches are for, it just wouldn't work."
"Okay now, back to what I wanted to come here for," Elena says shooting me and Jeremy a look, I raise my hands in mock surrender.
"Someone pissed in her cheerios," Kaya says, I stifle a laugh.
"So Jer, I need you to help me with something," Elena tells Jer.
"What's up?"
"I've been going through Stefan's old journals," Stefan douche Salvatore, "Every single times he's gone off the rails in the past his best friend Lexi's been the one to bring him back."
"So where is she now that we need her?" Mr. Saltzman asks.
"She's dead," Jeremy tells him.
"Well that's wonderful," me and Kaya say at the same time.
"And you want me to try and reach her don't you?" Jer asks Elena.
"Yes, and you can have help from Marina with that," she says looking at me.
Jeremy looks at me with Mr. Saltzman, "Sure why not," I tell them, "Shouldn't be to hard to summon a dead vampire to help turn on a living vampires emotions," I say sarcastically which makes Jeremy laugh.
"How did you know his emotions were off?" Mr. Saltzman asks what Elena was thinking.
"At the bonfire his eyes were void of emotion and you said off the rail, that's what I said when my friend Kaya turned off her emotions," I tell them and glance at Kaya.
"Ahhh, good times," Kaya says with a far away look in her eyes.
"Said vampire is sitting next to me," everyone looks at the area next to me, then Elena and Mr. Saltzman look at Jer seeing if he sees her.
"I can't see her, why's that?"
"Guess we're different types of mediums," they all nod in agreement.
"Now back to Lexi, I thought if I knew how she did it, maybe I could help him," Elena says.
"Look I don't even know if she's on the other side," Jer explains and I hum in agreement.
"Is that what it's called?"
I nod my head, while Jer answers, "That's what Anna calls it. There's not like an official brochure or anything."
"So what is it like, some supernatural purgatory?" Mr. Saltzman asks.
"Well according to Kaya, the vampire, it's like being here with us but no one can see or hear them, and you can't see any other people from the other side. You can't interact with anyone. You're all alone," I tell them, shooting Kaya and Anna a look.
"Well Vicki could interact. She blew up my car," Mr. Saltzman says. Whoa, whoa what. Someone blew up his car, a ghost no other.
"Vicki had help from a witch on the side," Jer explains, "Anna.....she's doing this all by herself."
"I'm just saying," Mr. Saltzman starts, "Maybe we learned our lesson about summoning dead people."
"Um, I know I have no clue what you're talking about, but I think we just need to close the veil from the other side so ghosts can't get through, and jack stuff up," I explain to them.
Mr. Saltzman, okay no, you know what, I'm tired of saying Mr. Saltzman, I'm calling him Alaric from now on.
So, Alaric nods his head in agreement, whilst Elena and Jer ignore me.
"Do you think it's even possible to contact Lexi," Elena asks Jer and I.
"I don't know," we say at the same time.
"I didn't have an emotional connection with her, I never even met her," Jer explains while I just stay quiet, not wanting anymore ghosts around.
"Can we just drop it, please?" Alaric asks and I hum in agreement.
"No I can't drop it Ric. I don't know what else to do?" Elena tells him.
"Don't you think we have a few too many dead vampires in our past to be sitting here thinking of them watching us?"
"I don't think all supernatural spirits go to the other side. I think some of them find peace," Anna explains to us.
"Is Anna here right now?" Elena asks.
I get ready to nod when Anna says, "Don't tell he I'm here right now, she won't like it."
"Nope," I say popping the 'p'.
Jeremy says, "No, no. I'm going to go, uh, check my work schedule." With that he and Anna head inside.
Once he's inside Stefan shows up, "Hey guys," he sits down and looks at all of us, "Who forgot to invite me to the family summit?"
"Well, as awkward as this is, and as much as I wanna stay, I'm gonna go," I look between Stefan and Elena, "Uh, yea, bye, Mr. Saltzman, Elena, Stefan." I say Stefan's name with venom in my voice. I wave and walk into the Grill to get a drink, no not alcohol.
I walk around the bar. A couple of minutes later Alaric and Elena come in. "I'll grab Jeremy," Alaric tells Elena.
"I'll be right back," she responds.
I walk up to Alaric, "Did Stefan leave?" He laughs and nods, "Good, he's a d-bag."
"You know, I've had enough vampires today, thanks." Damon walks up to us and I give him my small wolf glare telling him I'm still pissed.
"Oh come one," he says to both me and Ric, "Have a drink with me. We've got trouble."
"You're tellin' me," I say to him, and we all stop, "My dead vampire best friend is currently standing next to me."
"Aww, I love you, too," Kaya cooes.
"Hush up," I tell her. Damon looks at me like I'm insane, "See what I mean?"
"Agreed and Damon, you've got trouble. See, we're not a team. You tried to kill me, I don't like you anymore," Alaric says.
"Ah! But remember back when you liked me and you conspired to kill Uncle werewolf Mason Lockwood?" Damon responds.
"Why'd you kill Mason? He was my favorite adult Lockwood when I was 12," I ask them with a whiny voice, trying to hide my sadness to know he's dead.
Kaya punches my shoulder, "Get over it you baby." I look at her with wide eyes.
"Yeah, and?" Alaric asks.
"I think he's still a little pissed," Damon explains.
"Well yeah, that tends to happen when someone is freakin' murdered. I'd be pissed, too," I pause and think of something, "Kaya, why aren't you killing the hunter that killed you?"
"Oh, he's already dead," she tells me. I make an 'o' shape with my mouth and nod.
I look at the two who are just staring at me in confusion, "My lovely dead vampire friend Kaya, now can we get a drink."
"Marina, you're too young to drink," Alaric tells me.
"I'm supposed to care because..." I ask while walking to the bar.
Alaric takes a seat to my right and Damon is on his. We order our drinks and Damon compels mine when someone steals Damon's drink.
"Mason!" Alaric says surprised.
"God I missed whiskey," Mason says as he drinks just that.
"Hey Mason, how are you? You know being dead and all," I ask him.
He playfully glares at me, then looks at Kaya. They lock eyes and it's like they're stuck in a trance. This gets Alaric and Damon's attention and they look over at Kaya as well. "Yo, Kaya," I poke her forehead and she snaps back into reality, "You two would be cute together," I say meaning her and Mason.
"Why you dressed like that, Kaya?" Mason asks her.
"This is the outfit I was wearing when I died," Kaya starts, "We had to go to a ball thing. You should've seen Marina, she was hot."
He looks back at me and smirks, "Is that you Marina?" I just nod my head annoyed, "What happened to the pixie cut, and braces?"
"Puberty was very kind my friend," I tell him and raise my glass.
He raises his glass as well and slams it against Damon's forehead. I crack up laughing at this while Damon says, "Ah! Ow!" he looks over to Alaric, "Told ya."
Damon gets a text and reads it over, "I am never gonna hear the end of that dang necklace,"
"One of you is gonna pay for this right," Mason asks holding up his glass of whiskey.
I shake my head and laugh, "Okay, one, what necklace, and two, which one of you's paying for this," Kaya hums in agreement with me. She has never really been one to talk much.
"Cheers," me and Mason say in unison.
"Let's get to it. I killed you, you want revenge. Get in line," Damon says to Mason. I shook my head, it may've been 6 years but I know Mason.
"Actually I want an apology," Mason corrects. Ha, I knew it.
But at this revelation Alaric starts cracking up and immediately stops, "Good luck with that."
"Hate to break it to ya Mason, but Damon doesn't seem like the kinda person who kills you and then apologizes," Alaric hums in agreement.
"Marina, over there's, right and don't you have a family to haunt? You know, your nephew turned into a mindless hybrid minion?"
"That's why I'm here. To help Tyler," Mason informs us.
"Wait, Tyler's the hybrid in school," I ask.
The three men look over to me, "Yeah, thought you knew."
"I haven't seen Tyler since I was 12, we kinda look different," Mason scoffs at this.
"Okay no. Tyler got taller and muscular, you turned into a model," Mason tells me.
"Whatever. Who's he sired to?"
"Klaus Mikaelson," Damon tells me with a grin. Ha he thinks I just turn my back on Rebekah.
"Damon, you can't choose your family. So Rebekah's lovely brother killed Tyler?"
Alaric just nods. I huff out annoyed, "Kaya can you go say 'Hi' to Chiron for me?"
She gives me a look, "I'm not your slave."
"You're right, you're my best friend who owes me."
"Oh really," I nod my head, "What do I owe you for?"
"Never letting the Stolls prank you of course," she looks at me wide eyed.
"You're why my cabin was never pranked and nothing was ever stolen?"
"Yup," I pop the 'p', "Do you know how hard it is to control twins with ADHD who were born to prank and steal?"
"Fine, can I drive you truck," I nod my head and give her my keys.
She huffs and straightens her dress as she stands, "Oh and you might wanna say 'Hi' to your mum."
"'Course," she starts to walk out, "Your mum found peace by the way."
A tear runs down my cheek and I have a sad smile on my face, but I quickly wipe the tear away. "Would you believe me if I told you she was a ripper?," I ask the three dudes who are watching me with curiosity.
"She doesn't look like one," Damon says.
"See her without emotions, and you won't say that," I tell them, "Now back to the Tyler problem."
Damon nods, "Well, sorry to break it to you," he looks between me and Mason, "Both of you, but Tyler can't be helped. At least not while Klaus is alive." He looks around. "Which, is like, always."
"Not necessarily," Mason starts, "Not if you could find a weapon that could kill him."
"There is no weapon that-" Damon cuts himself off. Alaric and I share a look and curiously glance at Mason, "What do you know?"
"I know you need to apologize," Mason replies.
"Smart Mason, very smart," I applaud him while Damon gives him a glare and Alaric smirks.
"Not now Marina," Damon tells me. He turns his attention back to Mason, "You have gotta be kidding me."
"Douche," I murmur under my breath, but I know he can still hear me.
"Are you incapable of remorse?" Yes, yes he is Alaric, "Just apologize!" If he does it won't even sound like one.
Damon sighs, "You're right," he pauses, "I didn't have to kill you. I do a lot of things I don't have to do."
"And that's how Damon Salvatore apologizes everybody," I cheer sarcastically.
Damon gives me a glare while Alaric and Mason snort. Mason starts laughing, "That's good enough."
"Yeah, well it wasn't gonna get any better than that," I tell him and they both laugh as Damon glares, once again. I put my hands up in mock surrender and get of the bar stool.
Mason suddenly gets serious, "Meet me at the old Lockwood cellar, bring a shovel, and come alone."
"What, you're going to bury me alive?" Damon teasingly questions.
"Let's hope so," I say at the same time Mason says, "Don't tempt me," and walks out.
I laugh and walk out of the bar to my apartment.
[That Night]
"Hey Alaric," I say as I stand next to him in the middle of the crowd for the night of Illuminations.
"Hey Marina," he responds, and turns to me,"Sorry to bring you into the Mystic Falls vampire drama."
"No problem, I was kinda already in it, befriending Rebekah and all," I pause, "Oh and just to say, no matter what you and the rest of the little group say, I will never turn my back on her."
"Okay, don't worry," he says.
We both get into a comfortable silence until Mayor Lockwood comes over to Alaric, "Have either of you seen Tobias Fell? He's supposed to be doing the lighting ceremony."
"No," Alaric tells her, and she looks over to me.
"Can't say I have, sorry Mayor Lockwood. I'll tell you if I do though," she nods her head in thanks and turns her attention back to Alaric.
"Do you think you could fill in for him?" she asks politely.
"Of course," and with that she walks on stage.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," Mayor Lockwood starts her speech, "Mr. Fell seems to have been detained, so the history department's very own Mr. Saltzman has agreed to fill in."
Everyone is clapping as Alaric walks up to the stage. "On behalf of Mystic Falls High School historical society, let's light 'em up." As he says this all the lanterns hanging around the square light up, and everyone applaudes.
In the midst of the crowd, the cheering and clapping a womans scream fills the air. I stop clapping, grab a hold of Hurricane and sprint over to where the scream was.
I don't sense a monster, not Greek at least. But there are plenty monsters in this world, so I'm worried of what it might be.
When I get there I see Tobias Fell hanging from a tree all bloodied. His wrists have rope around them, which is where he is hanging from, and his shirt is open to show is cut up chest. His bloodied and cut up face is hanging downward, and I'm positive he's dead.
Everyone starts screaming at the sight of the dead founding family member whilst I look for any suspicious people, most likely vampires.
I can sense a group of them over by Jeremy and I walk over there. "Jer, Anna, who are your lovely friends that killed Tobias Fell?"
The man, who I presume is the leader, just smirks at us. They turn and walk away from us as the paramedics take the body down from the tree.
"Well, aren't they a friendly bunch," I say. I can tell the vampires are smirking even though I can't see them. I can hear Jeremy scoff at my comment. I turn to look at him and pat him on the shoulder, "As much as I love hunting down vampires," I start sarcastically, "Bye Jer, bye Anna." I wave and start walking away.
I decided not to head home quite yet, so I started walking down the street. A couple of minutes into my walk I come across Mayor Lockwood's car crashed into a telephone pole with her unconscious inside it. I run over to the door trying to get it open.
I hear tires screeching and I see the witch and the other blonde vampire in a car staring at me and the Mayor. "Are you gonna help?"
A look of worry across their faces, and I sense a group of vampires surrounding me and the car. I look back over to the vampire and witch to see the same group of vampires that killed Tobias Fell. Rage washes through me and I glare at the leader for him to flinch back, which he does.
He starts to continue on, just this time without looking in my eyes. I smirk in success and turn back to the Mayor. I take a deep breath and try to open the door.
I hear a car door slam and I turn back over to see the vampire exiting the car, and the witch driving off. Plus the leader is right in front of me.
I glare at him again and growl standing protectively in front of the Mayor. He doesn't pay attention, he just turns to face the blonde vampire. I'm calling her Barbie from now on.
She vamps out and charges at him whilst another groupie approaches the car. I step up to him and give him an aneurysm. He curses, grabs his head, and falls to the ground. I take the water particles and create a puddle under him.
I do a quick spell that sets it on fire. His screams of agony are quickly cut off from me making the fire brighter and hotter. He quickly dies and I turn to glare at the others.
Barbie killed two of them, so it's just me, Barbie and the leader, "So, dude, I'm gonna assume you're a ghost. What the founding families do to ya?"
He just laughs and shakes his head at us.
I look behind me to check on Mayor Lockwood to see her looking past me at Barbie. I gasp in shock when I see the leader choking the life out of her. I know she's a vampire and it won't do anything but my fatal flaw is loyalty.
I start running toward him, but stop abruptly when he disappears. "Their gone!" I yell in joy, while jumping up and down, Barbie laughs at my antics. Then I remember, "Oh my Gods, the Mayor!"
I turn around and run towards the van she was driving. I go over to her, and Barbie rips off the door. I reach over her and unbuckle the seat belt, and drag her out of the van and into the street, "Hey Mrs. Lockwood. It's me Caroline."
Mayor Lockwood's eyes focus in on Caroline and I get up to call the ambulance. "Hello, 911 what is your emergency?"
"Hello, um we need an ambulance, Mayor Lockwood was in a car accident."
"Okay thank you, an ambulance is on their way," I get ready to question but realize they were tracking the call and hang up instead.
"Hey Caroline the ambulance is on their way," I tell her as I sit down next to her by the Mayor.
"So you're a witch," she asks.
"Yup," I say popping the 'p', "and you're a vampire." She just nods her head, "Let me count how many vampires I know. Let's see, there's you, the lovely emotionless Stefan, which I plan on fixing by the way, um the alcoholic Damon, and then there's Rebekah the diva. So that's four out of the six people I know."
She laughs, "Yea, well you forget Tyler, he's kinda both."
"Oh yeah, I really need to see Tyler and Matt again. It's been 6 years."
"Really?"
"Really," I tell her, "I used to live here when I was 12, I practically lived at the Lockwood Mansion, I swear I was there more than at my own house. When my mum died I moved to New York to stay with my dad." I pause, "Wow."
"What," Care asks confused.
"I just got in town yesterday and I've already been pulled into the vampire drama," I answer her question.
"That's Mystic Falls for you," she laughs and I soon join her. I hear sirens in the distance.
"Hey Care, why don't you go home, I'll deal with the paramedics."
"Thanks,"
"Marina," I tell her.
"Thanks Marina."
"No problem Care."
She nods her head and speeds off.
[At The Apartment]
I stand outside my apartment door and realize I gave my keys to Kaya. I groan and bang my head against the door.
I guess I hit the door to hard because something fell from the top of the door frame. That something being my keys. I smile to myself, "Thanks Kaya. I miss you." I say to no one.
I actually hope she didn't hear that and maybe, just maybe she found peace.
I pick up my keys and unlock the door happy to find the lights off. I walk in and kick the door close as I turn on the lights. I breathe out a sigh of relief when I find everything the way I left it.
I go to my bedroom and pick out a pair of pajamas. I get a white bra with a white thick strap tank top, white underwear and blue cheetah print fleece pajama pants.
I go in the bathroom and take a quick shower. I put in kiwi scented shampoo and conditioner with chocolate scented body wash. I shave my legs and underarms and hop out.
I quickly turn off the shower and wrap a towel around myself. I decided I wanted to towel/air dry instead of willing myself dry.
Walking into my bedroom I quickly change into my pjs and put my hair into a sloppy bun. I'm not really tired yet so I grab my mums grimoire. I walk into the kitchen and start brewing a cup of coffee. While it's brewing I go into the dining room and set up candles around the room and on the table.
I look through the grimoire and see a messenger spell.
Reading over the spell I decide I wanna tell Nico how I'm doing without having to IM him. I sprint to my room and rip a piece of paper from my sketchbook and a sharpie from my desk. I walk back to the dining room and place them on the table.
Ding. The coffee machine goes off. Walking into the kitchen I grab a mug and pour myself coffee. I turn off the machine, and with my mug in hand walk back into the dining room.
Thinking of what to tell Nico was difficult. So I just wrote the first thing that came to mind. The letter wrote 'Hey Nico, I'm in Mystic Falls day 2. I saw Kaya, there was a ghost problem but don't worry it's fine. I miss you and camp. Tell the Stolls I said hello and to keep pranking. I love you. Bye cuz, Kaitlin'
Then I murmur under my breath in latin and the paper gets engulfed in flames. I close my grimoire and turn off the light for the dining room, I head into the kitchen and do the same thing. In the living room I sit down on the couch and turn on the TV.
When I turn it on it shows the new, "Tobias Fell was murdered and hung on a tree at tonight's Night of Illuminations speech by Mayor Lockwood," the news reporter says with a monotone voice.
"I doubt they even care," I roll my eyes, finish off my coffee and turn off the TV.
To lazy to walk back into the kitchen, I place the mug on the coffee table and walk into my room whilst turning off the lights. In my room I put my grimoire back on the dresser and hop into bed.
Once in bed I check my phone. It's 11:45pm and I have no texts or missed calls. I hum in acceptance and turn of my lamp falling into a dreamless sleep.
