Chapter Eight
I awoke from my nightmare at noon with a scream. I was sweating profusely and tears were streaming down my face. I quickly got out of bed and took a shower. I must've been in there for an hour but what got me out was a knock at my door.
Quickly, I turned off the water and willed myself dry. I changed into blue skinny jeans and a red flannel. I put on socks and brown fugs, I left my hair as is and grabbed Hurricane as I approached the door. I open it to find no one there.
Looking down the hall, no one. Strange. I shake it off and look down seeing an envelope with my name, 'Marina Kersey' on it. I open it, and am immediately surrounded by flying letters, the cursive writing not helping one bit. But after a while of reading it, I manage to get the letters back in their place.
'Please join the Mikaelson Family at seven o'clock for dancing, cocktails, and celebrations.'
What in the hades is this? Is this an invitation to a ball? I'm asking Rebekah about this.
'You should come, it'll be fun Greeky
-Rebekah'
I'll go to the stupid ball, but I'm going to her place to find out why they're throwing a ball. I grab my phone and keys and leave and lock up my apartment with the invite in my hand. I get into my Chevy and drive towards the mansion.
I look in the passenger seat while I'm driving and notice my knapsack that I put in here last night. It has my sketch book, a grimoire, and a couple of pencils. As I continue driving I look at the scenery and start daydreaming about random things until I arrive at their house.
Smiling I unbuckle, grab my knapsack and hop out of the truck. I pull out my phone and send a quick text to Rebekah.
From Greeky:
I'm here. Can I come in?
From Diva:
Sure
Slowly, I open the front door and use the water in the air to sense which room has the most people. I find a room that has five people in it and has multiple furnishings. I quickly walk towards that room and walk in.
Running over to Bekah, I jump over the back of the couch she's on and land on the cushion beside. She gives out a startled squeal and jumps a little. I look around the room to see Kol looking at himself in the mirror, I believe Finn was his name, messing with a tie, Rebekah's having her nails done by a compelled girl and Elijah has shoes on his hands.
"Elijah," I say and everyone jumps but Rebekah jumps a little in surprise, "Shoes go on your feet, hun." Rebekah stifles a laugh as Elijah playfully glares at me, "I'm just saying, your hands are gonna smell now."
He smiles at me, "What are you doing here, Marina?"
I get ready to answer when Bekah interrupts me, "Why are you here, Greeky?"
"Well, Diva, I was going to answer before you so rudely interrupted," she hits my arm playfully as I continue, "What is this?" I say showing her the invite, "And why's it all curly, I have a hard enough time reading without you making everything curly. Took me forever to read."
"That is an invitation dear, and why do you have a difficult time reading it," Kol says.
"Thank you, but I was wondering why y'all having a ball, and I have dyslexia, mini Elijah," I say with a smirk as Rebekah again stifles a laugh.
He just looks back into the mirror, "Tell me how handsome I am," he says to me and Bekah.
"Kol, you know I can't be compelled," Rebekah teases him which causes me to giggle.
"But she can," he says pointing to me. I shook my head at him.
"Actually I can't," everyone looks at me weirdly, "Didn't you know I'm witch?"
"You're a witch!" Rebekah says shocked.
I furrow my eyebrows and pursed my lips, "Um, yeah."
"And you didn't tell me because," she pesters.
"Thought you knew," I tell her and at that moment Niklaus walks in all high and mighty.
"You went after Elena," Niklaus says to Rebekah. I look at her with a shocked but pleased look, "What is wrong with you?" he looks over to me, "Lovely to see Marina."
I just nod my head, "Here we go," Rebekah says boredly. I nudge her.
"You could at least pretend to be frightened and humor him," she just smiles smugly at me cause me to roll my eyes. I'm surprised they haven't rolled out of my head yet.
"Do you want another dagger in your heart," Niklaus asks threateningly.
"Seriously," I ask, "Please tell me there's something else in your arsenal of threats. If there's not that's just sad," I shake my head looking down.
"Agreed. Don't you have any other tricks?" Kol asks unimpressed.
"Oh, go back to staring at yourself," Niklaus retorts.
"And who are you, my father?" Kol asks.
"No, Kol, but you're in my house."
"Then perhaps we should go outside," Kol says standing and they glare each other down.
I stand as well in between them, "Ladies, ladies, you're both pretty," Rebekah and Elijah chuckle as Finn sports a smile, "Now is someone gonna tell be why there's a ball?"
"Ugh," Rebekah groans, "Because we're one big happy family again," I raise my eyebrow at her, "Mostly happy," I roll my eyes, "You know one day your eyes are gonna roll right outta your head one day. And you'll die."
"And I'm sure all my enemies will celebrate," I tell her with a cheeky grin.
"Yeah, well have fun in Heaven when you do," she tells me with her arms crossed.
"Sweetheart, I got a thrown reserved for me in Hell, and you're welcome to come down and party anytime," Finn chuckles along with the other boys as Rebekah gives me a grin.
"And this is why you're my best friend," she tells me.
"Awww, thanks," I say with a baby face on.
I'm still in between Kol and Niklaus when their mother comes in. She cut her hair and it's slightly curled, and she's wearing a tan dress that goes just below her knees with nude heals, "Niklaus, come." After that she just leaves the room and Niklaus soon follows.
"Well, as much as I would love to stay and listen to Mikaelson family drama, I have to go buy a dress," I shudder.
"What's wrong with dresses?" Rebekah asks.
"If I tell you my opinion on dresses," I pause, "You'll probably kill me right here."
"Why's that?" she pesters.
"When I was twelve, my mum made me wear a dress on Easter Sunday," I pause and she motions for me to continue, "I burned it in the fireplace. I. Do. Not. Like dresses," she goes to open her mouth but I continue talking, "But since I love you, I'll wear a dress."
She gets up and hugs me, "Thanks, Greeky."
"No prob. Bye, Elijah, Mini-Elijah, Finn, Rebekah," I say bye to everyone in the room and they murmur one in response, "Bye Niklaus!"
"Call me Nik!" he shouts back.
"Bye, Nik. Bye Bekah's mom!" I shout at the other two Mikaelsons who aren't in the room and I leave.
I walk to my truck and drive out of town to the nearest dress shop.
An hour later when I get there I'm immediately ambushed by retail woman asking what I want for my perfect dress. I have to think it over but eventually I tell her, "A sea green flowy, soft fabric. Goes to my ankles, and the sleeveless."
"I zan do zat," the lady says in a french accent, "Whatz vour name?"
"Marina," I tell her, "How 'bout you?"
"Zara," she tells me shyly.
"Nice to meet you, Zara."
"You az vell," I smile at her as she runs around the shop getting fabrics and measuring tapes.
[Back in Mystic Falls]
I just made it back to Mystic Falls and it's only 3:00. My dress is a tan color covered in sea green lace that goes to a sea of green ruffles. Tan strap open toed sandal heels, a single pearl necklace, and I plan to put my hair in a bun, with mascara and winged eyeliner. (Picture above without the crown and trident and the hair is black not red.)
I leave my dress and shoes in the passenger seat of the truck as I pull up to the grill just in time to see Rebekah walk in. I quickly go up behind her, "Boo!"
She jumps at least a foot in the air and squeals in surprise, "How the hell do you sneak up on me?!"
"I wasn't even trying to sneak up on you," I look past her to the Grill, "You think you could compel me a drink?"
"After I give my invitation to Matt," she says waving an envelope like the one I got.
"Awww, you got a crush on Matty Blue?"
She huffs and rolls her eyes, "Nonsense."
I roll my eyes and give her a look. She just ignores me and walks inside. I soon follow after but I take a seat at the bar instead. I watch as she walks over to Caroline and Elena, chatting with them for a bit. After a moment or two she heads over to Matt and hands him the invite.
They talk for a while and she soon comes over to me. "You should get me a Bloody Mary," I tell her as she sits down.
She rolls her eyes, "Fine," she motions for the bartender to come over, "A Bloody Mary and a Screwdriver." She compels her, and the bartender nods and walks away.
"I thought they'd have everyone on vervain by now," I tell her. She just smirks at me.
"I thought you didn't like compulsion," she tells me.
"I don't," I start, "But, I'm underaged soooo, you get it."
She laughs as the drinks arrive. I take mine down in a second which causes her to look at me in shock, "What? I can hold my drink."
She shakes her head and downs hers as well, "You wanna get ready at my place?"
"Sure," I say, "Got everything I need in my truck." She nods her head and we head outta the bar, "I'll follow behind you."
"Sure," she says as we get into our perspective cars. I follow behind her as I said I would till we get to the Mikaelson Manor. I get out and grab my dress with shoes. They're both covered so no one knows what they look like, besides me of course.
"Do I get to see your dress," she asks.
"Tonight," I tell her, smirking as she huffs. I have all my stuff with me, my dress and shoes in a cover, my makeup and jewelry are in a small pouch. I grin at her as I walk towards her house.
"Ugh, fine," she says glaring at me, "You can get ready in the guest bedroom to get ready."
"Thanks, doll," I grin at her and head inside behind her as she leads me to a room.
[At the party]
I was walking around the ball when I saw Caroline in a blue gown with white gloves and her hair in a curly bun, walking away from Nik. I slowly walk over to him, him being the first Mikaelson to see me this evening, "Hey Nik. Looks like Prince Charming got rejected by Cinderella."
He smiles at me, "Well don't you look gorgeous this evening."
"Aww, thanks," I say in a baby voice, "So, what's up with you and Care?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about, Marina."
"Mmhmmm," I roll my eyes and walk away whilst patting his chest. I walk over to Caroline, "Hey, Cinderella."
She glares playfully at me, then looks over my outfit, "OMG, Marina, I love your dress."
I blush slightly, "Thanks," I look around the room, "What's up with you and Nik?"
She full on glares at me which causes me to roll my eyes, "Nothing. He's just got some Cinderella fetish, which is why I look like Cinderella," I get ready to say, 'how so?' but she cuts me off before I start, "He sent me the dress with the invite, and I didn't have any dresses at home, so, ta da."
I smirk at her, "You guys would make an amazing couple though." She glares at me, again, and I raise my hands in mock surrender and walk away.
Eventually I run into Kol and Rebekah, "Ah, my favorite Mikaelson," Kol smirks, "and Mini-Elijah." His smirk soon fades and is replaced with a scowl as Bekah chuckles and looks over at me.
"You look gorgeous by the way," she tells my, while glaring daggers at Kol who's looking at me hungrily.
"Are you ever gonna get my name?" I give him a fake confused look, "It's Kol."
"I know that, stupid," I pause as he glares at me, me being unaffected, "You just look like Elijah, so." I shrug my shoulders and grab a glass of champagne as a waiter passes. I take a sip and I hear Elijah get everyone's attention.
"That's our cue," Kol says rolling his eyes and dragging a huffing Rebekah along with him.
"Uh, if everyone could gather please," Elijah says, "Welcome, thank you for joining us," he stars as Finn walks up the stairs and their mum comes down. "You know, whenever my mother brings our family together like this, it's tradition for us to commence the evening with a dance."
I hear Damon and Stefan talking a little bit ahead of me, "Do you see who I see?" Damon asks.
"Oh, yeah," Stefan replies.
I roll my eyes at their scheming and focus back onto Elijah, "Tonights pick is a centuries-old waltz, so if all of you could please find yourselves a partner, please join us in the ballroom." Everyone claps and heads to the ballroom as Elijah approaches me, "Would you like to dance?"
"Why not?" I ask as I take his hand and we head to the ballroom.
"You look beautiful tonight," he compliments.
"Thanks," I say casually as Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran comes on. I let out a quiet giggle that Elijah heard.
"What's funny?"
"We're dancing a centuries-old waltz to Ed Sheeran," I smile at him as we dance.
"You know how to waltz," he states the obvious.
"Would you believe me if I told you this wasn't my first ball?"
He smiles slightly at me as he twirls me to another man. I look up to see who my new partner is to see Finn, "Hey, Finn."
He gives me a small smile, "Hello, Marina. You're friends with Rebekah, no?"
"Tis true," I say in an amazing british accent. Not even being sarcastic. Anyways, my accent causes Finn to chuckle slightly, "Yes, I got the quiet one to laugh."
He immediately sobers up just as the song ends and we step apart, "Thank you for the dance," he says.
"Welcome," I tell him and we slowly separate from each other.
A few minutes or so of exploring the manor I run into Elijah, "Hello, Elijah," I say to him.
"Hello," he responds, a little out of it.
"You okay?"
"Yes, just worried about my mother is all," he confesses.
"I thought it was weird how she forgave Nik, just like that," I snap my fingers for extra effect. He chuckles at me and I take his arm.
"I believe you, my dear Marina, are practically a Mikaelson," I blush at him saying I was practically family.
"How so?" I ask, curious.
"You befriended Rebekah and Niklaus, ignoring what they've done, you are a friend of mine. You and Kol would've been best of friends with your mischievous ways, and I say you make Finn laugh during your dance together," he pauses and looks up the stairs, "You have yet to talk to my mother, though."
"What's your mother's name, I never caught it," I'm seriously tired of calling her Bekah's mom or their mom.
"Esther, that's her name."
"Well it's a beautiful name," I tell him.
He chuckles lightly and we talk for a while until I notice Elena, "Hey, there's Elena, I'm gonna go talk to her."
I head over there with Elijah following closely behind, "Hey Elena."
She looks at me surprised and then looks over to Elijah, "Hey Marina, Elijah."
"So how was my mother?" he asks her which causes a frown to form on my face. Elijah, seeing this elaborates, "My mother wished to speak to Elena." I make an 'o' shape with my mouth in understanding.
"Intense," Elena responds.
"Why'd she need to speak to you alone?" I asked her curious of what Esther was planning. Elena doesn't answer, instead she looks over to the stairs. I look over as well and see her and Esther make eye contact.
"Elena," Elijah asks getting impatient. He grabs three champagne glasses off of a tray and hands us one each, "Should I be concerned about my mother's intentions?"
"She just wanted to apologize for trying to have me killed," Elena says, lying pretty well. I almost couldn't tell. Almost.
"Was this the whole, 'Vicky ghost car explosion' thing?" I ask and she just nods.
"So it's true, then? She's forgiven Klaus?" Elijah asks, slightly skeptical.
"It's true," Elena says, lying once again. Man, when did she get good at lying. Also, what's Esther got planned?
Elijah and Elena have a stare off, Elijah trying to tell whether Elena's being honest, and Elena trying not to let out that she was lying. It was interrupted by Esther and her clinking glasses, "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Waiters are coming 'round with champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass. It provides me with no greater joy than to see my family as one," I can sense a double meaning behind her words, but I can't tell what they are, "I'd like to thank you all for being apart of this spectacular evening," she raises her glass, "Cheers."
"Cheers," everyone including myself repeats as we take all take a sip of the champagne.
"Cheers," Elijah says as he and Elena clink glasses. They both seem hesitant, but as soon as Elena takes her drink as does Elijah.
After a while the party slowly starts to disappear, "So, Marina," I look over to Elijah.
"Hmmm?"
"What have you done in your short life time?"
I scoff insulted, "Hey, I happen to be 18, I'm proud I've made it this far. And what do ya mean?"
"Where have you been?"
"That'll take a while, sure you wanna hear?" he just nods his head, looking at me with interest, "New York, St. Louis, Washington, Mt. St. Helen to be exact, Alaska, which was fun. Um, let's see, outta country I've been to Rome and Greece, my cousin took me to Italy once. But, now that I think about I haven't been many places."
"I haven't been to Greece. Should I think about going there?"
"It's beautiful there, I'm sure you'd love it," I explain with a sigh.
We get interrupted by Stefan running past us to go outside. We follow soon after and notice the rest of the Mikaelson siblings except for Kol, and Elena came running out as well. When we do get outside I notice Damon panting on the ground standing above a 'dead' Kol.
"Maybe a little," Damon says. I must've missed what Stefan asked because I'm really confused, "Far be it from me to cause a problem." He looks over to Elena and then at the rest of us.
"Awkward," I say trying to break the silence. I look over towards Kol and walk over there. When I'm at his body I kick his side and look at everyone else who's looking at me weirdly, "How long does it take to wake up from a broken neck?"
"Marina," Nik says, "You make it sound as though it's normal."
"Barely been in Mystic Falls two months and I'm already used to people coming back to life-- wait scratch the back to life part, used to that. I've been hanging around Bekah too much," I tell him and smirk at Rebekah.
"You love me," she says.
"True, very true--" I get cut off by a sinking feeling. I roll my eyes annoyed with the timing and search my hair.
"What are you doing?" Stefan asks confused.
"Looking for a pen," just as I say that I pull Hurricane from my hair, Elena steps back in fear. She recognizes it from when I almost attacked Dr. Fell.
"Put that away, Marina! Are you trying to kill someone?!" Elena asks and everyone looks at her confused.
I completely ignore her and turn to Rebekah, "Remember when I told you about how I had enemies?" she nods her head, "You're about to meet one." Just as I say that Kelli, one of my favorite empousa comes out of the forest.
"Hey, Marina! Where's Percy Jack-ass?" she pauses as though she's waiting for me to answer, "Oh yeah, that's right, he's dead." She chuckles evilly and I look her over.
She's wearing a black dress that goes to her mid thighs. It shows off her mixed matched legs, which may I say looks hilarious, "Oh my Gods, your legs, I'll never get over that!" Everyone looks at her confused and then to me for an explanation, "Oh, you guys, meet Kelli, she's an empousa. It's kinda like a vampire," I turn to her, "Right? Well, either way, you should really go die in a hole. But I can do it for you!" I said in a sickly sweet voice.
"Will what? Your pen?" Stefan asks sarcastically.
Elena speaks up, "It's not a pen," and as she says that I turn it into a sword. Everyone gasps and backs away in shock, including Elena.
"So Kelli, you gonna go first?"
"My pleasure," and she races towards me her long and sharp claws ready for attacking. When she does she swips her hands at me and moves all over the place.
I decided I was gonna use my powers and I put away my sword, "Giving up Kersey!" she laughs manically just in time for me to summon the water from the fountain in front of the building. She visibly gulps but keeps going anyways.
I summon the water to my hand and turn it into a golden trident (Like the one in the picture) and attack her with that. I block all her shots without getting a single cut on me. I've gotten her many times with the trident and to finish her off I whisper, "Go to Tartarus," and stab her in the throat.
She gags once then explodes into golden dust. My dress and hair now have golden sparkles on them and it actually looks good so I leave it. I turn the trident back into a water and return it to the fountain.
Turning back to the others they all look at me surprised, "What?" No one has moved. I realize I don't want them to know so I pray to the Olympians that they can make them forget everything they've seen that's Greek and/or Roman and that Bonnie forgets I'm a werewolf, so Tyler and Jeremy also forget about . I almost forgot she knew.
Everyone closes their eyes and takes a deep breath. When everyone opens them they all look normal and I smile at them, "Hey Bekah," she looks at me, "Can I spend the night?"
She rolls her eyes but smiles none-the-less, "After the ball." I nod in agreement and we head back inside with the rest of the Mikaelsons following us, except for Finn who carried Kol's body out of view.
When the party ends the sleepover didn't go as planned as Rebekah went to the Grill while I was to tired and didn't come back 'till the next morning.
