Chapter 15- Sour, Evil Spirit
POV: Allister
Toying with the shifter's minds was fun. Most of the time.
Some had learned how to tune me out. But not many.
I dont know why people always tried to help them. It was useless. Only I decided when it was enough. Stupid people. Players. Humans.
They couldn't stop me! Nobody was ever able to. Nobody ever will be able to.
I was a 'demon'. Thats what everyone always said, from the moment I met the first shifters. I wasnt a demon, just a spirit. A sour, evil spirit. I was evil because of them. They only used me. And they broke me.
Then there were those three. What were their names? Ah, yes. Viper, Shard, and Ruvio. They always messed with me. Shard was okay. They weren't a shifter, they couldn't see me. But Ruvio and Viper weren't. They broke me even more. Turned me even more sour. How? Well, its quite simple. They tried to make me happy. Those stupid animals of Viper's. They were so... happy. Playful. It was, frankly, quite gross. They tried to make me happy.
So, being the spirit I am, I did what I was good at. I took over.
I made Ruvio and Viper just sit there. For days. They didn't have power, so I messed with them. It was my way of getting back at them for trying to change me. I told them things they didn't want to hear. And the best part is, well, nobody could help them.
(Hope you enjoyed this small bit of Allister's backstory!)

Third Person POV
Viper's cries faded into sniffles. Impulse, Tango, and Grian had gone back to their bases. Xisuma and Scar stayed with Viper. She had rolled her sweatshirt sleeves up, and Scar was treating the wounds on her arms. For once, she didn't mind.
She shakily stood up, with X's help. She looked at Scar, then pointed to the giant crystal in the center of the village.
"What's th- that?" She sniffed. Scar nodded.
"Well, thats the source of the magic for the village. Nobody seems to beieve in magic though," He explained with a sigh.
"Magic?" X asked, unaware of this. Scar nodded.
"I had magic crystals. They brought the portal here."
Viper nods. "Do you still have any?"
"Sadly, no. They all broke and lost the magic they had." Scar replies. The sun was supposed to set in two hours. They had been here in the village for almost three.
Scar turned to Xisuma. "X, I think you can go home. I'll stay here with Viper," He tells the yellow-suited man. Xisuma nods.
"Okay, be safe." He tells Scar and Viper before flying off to his base, leaving Viper and Scar alone. They simply sat down, in a comfortable silence. Viper was very much aware of Allister sitting a few feet away, but said nothing of it. Then a squeak came from the bushes. The leaved rustled, but nothing emerged. Scar sighed.
It had been almost five minutes since they heard the creature in the bushes, and it was back. The squeaking was so familiar. Almost a meow... Then Viper gasped and stood up, quickly walking over to the bushes.
"Boom?" She said out loud, and Scar walked over to join her. The beige and brown creature stepped out of the bushes with a content squeak.
"Boom!" Viper chirped, swiftly picking up the small creature. "You're back!" Scar looked equally as happy as Viper, and Boom wriggled free of Viper and bounced over to Scar.
"Well hey bud, good to see you again." The wizard laughed, petting the cat-like creature. Then Boom squeaked and dashed for the bushes again. Viper's smile turned to a frown. Boom had just... left?
But he hadn't. Because he emerged moments later, holding a piece of paper. A letter. Viper and Scar gasped at the same time.
"A letter!" Scar said, Viper taking it from Boom's mouth. She carefully read the contents, before starting to sob. She hugged Boom close, setting the letter down. Boom let out a quiet, sad squeak. Viper looked at Scar, then pointed to the letter.
"Read it," She whispered. He scanned the letter, heart breaking. Then he set it down, holding back tears. He looked again in the envelope, and saw a paper and pen. They, Ruvio and Shard, wanted her to write back.
Viper set Boom down, the small creature now sitting in Scar's lap, and took the paper and pen from Scar. He nodded as she wrote. Her hands moved to create a swift, beautiful R, and she continued.
Ruvio and Shard,
Boom has made his way back to me, I assume with your help. I'm okay, in a place called HermitCraft.
She looked up at Scar and smiled before continuing.
Its colorful here. Grass is green. So are leaves. Everything has color. I want you guys to come see it.
Im stuck here, you see. But I'm with nice people. But, you know, bad things have happened. It was my fault, too, I caused them.
Allister came. It still wants their revenge. Thats just Allister, though.
Hope ya'll are doing okay back at home. I'll be back as soon as I can. Promise.
-Viper
Viper's hand wrote the last letter, a swift 'r', the same letter she had started with, and stared at the paper a moment longer. Then, she folded it up and put it back in the envelope. But she kept the pen, sliding it into her pocket. Boom squeaked from Scar's lap, and started to climb up his arm, much to Scar's surprise. Viper laughed, watching Boom settle down on Scar's hat.
"Aw man, Jellie is going to be so jealous," He laughed. Viper laughed, nodding.
"C'mon Boom, get down," She says to the creature, picking him up off Scar's wizards hat. Boom squeaked and climbed up her shoulder, before ducking down into the hood of her sweatshirt. She sighed, but let the creature stay in the hood.
"Super fast build mode, huh?" Viper said out of the blue, surprising Scar. "I've heard it, ya know. While you've been building this place up."
"Erm, yeah, sorry-" Scar said, looking a little bit embarrassed. "I just like to listen to it while I work." Viper nodded. Music was everything to her. Well, maybe not everything. But it meant a lot.
The two sat in a comfortable silence, once again. Scar's mind was racked with build ideas, Viper's with music. It had been almost half an hour before one spoke.
"Can you do any magic?" Viper whispered, not taking her gaze off of one of the brilliant trees Scar had made.
"Yes," Scar replied. "I learned it a while ago."
"Can you show me?" She asked, finally looking over to Scar.
He nodded. He mumbled something, held out his hand, and a small green flame appeared. It was the same color as his eyes, the flame dancing around his hand. Then he closed his hand, and it was gone. Viper let out a small gasp. Boom, who's head was poking out of her hood, squeaked. Scar laughed.
"That was awesome," She whispered. Boom squeaked again.
"Thanks," Scar replied, smiling. "Can you do any?" He asked, watching Boom as he jumped out of Vipers hood. The creature sat down in between Scar and Viper. Scar took off his hat, and put it on the creatures smaller head. Boom squeaked and wriggled out from under the hat.
Viper laughed. "I'm a snake-lady, I think am magic," She whispered, picking up Boom. Scar nodded.
"Yeah, I guess you are."
The sun had started to set, giving Viper and Scar's brown hair auburn highlights. Viper smiled before standing up. She pulled a bandanna out of her sweatshirt pocket and tied it around her neck.
"Scar, happen to have a cowboy hat lying around?" She asks, receiving a nod from Scar. He walked up to Larry and descended the ladder, stepping inside his bedroom, and grabbed his hat off the wall. He sighed, climbing back down the ladder. Viper smiled as he handed it to her, and she placed it on her head.
"Well, look at that, im a cowboy!" She laughed, speaking in a southern accent, similar to Joe's. Scar laughed, too.
"Now here we have some cattle-" She said, pointing to Boom, who squeaked. "That needs to be dealt with." She swiftly shot forward and picked up Boom before he could dart out of the way. She kissed Boom's head, and then held him up. "Aha! And that, folks, is how to catch some cattle!" Scar laughed again, and Viper set Boom down. He squeaked happily and ran over to Scar.
She took the cowboy hat off and handed it back to Scar. "Thanks for letting me use it to catch that stray cattle." She tells him, her southern accent not faltering.

(No, dont ship Scar and Viper. Just, dont-)
Third Person POV (again)
Scar had gone to bed hours ago, it being almost three in the morning. Viper, however, did not. She had managed to climb up to the top of one of Scar's trees, aware that Allister had followed her. At least he couldn't bother the other three shifters around here.
For a while, Viper just sat atop the tree. She looked at all the huge, beautiful insects flying around the village. They were beautiful, even in the dark. Boom had gone back to the Graylands, taking the letter with him.
Viper, still watching the creatures, began to sing. Something she hadn't done since she had come here.
Instead of starting at the beginning of the song, she started somewhere in the middle.
"But they love you. Over and over, they love you. Thousands and thousands of eyes, just like mine, aching to find who they are." Viper let out a small sob before continuing.
"Oh, they love you, oh, you can feel how they love you. Coated and warm, but that's all they can do, words only get through if they're sharp. Oh how fitting, for one so fake. Make me a fairy, whatever it takes. And just like a tale, my dream was a scam, you waited smiling for this. I am burnt out, I smell of smoke. It sips through her cracks and so I start to choke. Sentences sit in her mouth that are templated."
She looked over to Allister before singing one last line.
"You waited smiling for this."
Then she started to sob.
